Lemme do a quick rundown of the things I personally agree/disagree with.
1. World Bosses, I prefer them the way they are now
2. Home Worlds, I don’t touch WvW much so I can’t comment here. I do like having people around to do events
3. Unlocking Traits, I agree with this one. I thought the point of leveling was to learn you class/build. Right now leveling just delays us from using our class.
4. Unlocking Skills, Honestly I think the new system might have some merits for actual new players. HOWEVER, I don’t see why it isn’t bypassed entirely when making alts.
5. Personal Story, I can’t really speak to this one as I almost always quit PS right before or after Claw Island.
6. Exploration, Yeah. If people can’t figure out how to feed a cow then I think GW2 is a bit above their level. I like the event tracker though.
7. Dailies, Still testing it. However I find it funny that they bother to have a cap at all. It would take 1500 daily completions to reach the daily AP cap of 15,000 from 0. Everyone who got comfortable when the cap was introduced and reduced their dailies to 5/6 a day is kicking themselves right now. The rewards were supposed to motivate us to do these things, but for a guy with 4mil karma and 8 level 80s, eh not really.
You also forgot:
8. Outfits, The ability to wear them in combat is neat and I feel they are being used way more now. However, town clothes and mixing and matching bit the dust and many of the best skins have been converted to inflexible and undyeable tonics. Furthermore, with the introduction of outfits, it’s getting harder and harder to go back to mix’n’matchable armor as there is a noticeable gap in graphical quality.
If that helps at all.
Oh wonderful, the forum just ate my post.
Well, the quintessence was: Add more options or roll back the old system!
Yeah a few minutes ago all the text got a fancy font and switched to center alignment. It was actually pretty cool except that posting broke for that moment.
4 options for pve is just not enough. It forces you to play certain content you don’t like while i could previously get my daily while playing SW or dungeons or fotm etc, this is a nightmare to me. Also, the daily log-in doesn’t work or does it start tomorrow?
It starts tomorrow if you were on last night after reset prior to the update today.
Glad to hear it. You stay well now!
(Also, if folks think this is a scam I can post a pic of the surgery wound with my user ID near it or whatever. :P)
No uh… That’s quite alright. Go ahead and keep that to yourself.
If you’re intent on only doing PvE, then you’ve got a self-imposed restriction that is making it more difficult than it needs to be for you.
I’m not going to speak against this new system until I tried it. However, I never agree with the content cross references.
It’s a bit like telling a MYST player to go play Call of Duty because it builds character.
Not everyone feels like doing competitive things every day. I personally enjoy PvP more when I don’t have to do it.
I’m fairly sure the meta would get more interesting IF the monsters you face were to target (agro) the guy doing the most damage as opposed to the guy wearing the toughness gear. I’m sure if I was getting targeted by five players and one of them was hitting like a tank on steroids I would not be targeting the guardian. Even if we don’t have a trinity here, monsters seems to be quite stupid in this genre.
We’re pretty sure they already do.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aggro
Ever since I upgraded my zerk ranger to ascended armor, I’m the target 99.99% of the time.
Some enemies seem to be different than others. For example champ abominations will pretty much not switch targets even if you get downed and no matter how far you run.
This is why the Mystic Forge Conduit should be reinstated.
I’ve been using the MFC for over a year. It basically takes 4 of your green runes/sigils and reduces them down to 1 with a chance of elevating to rare. Then 4 rares down to 1 with a chance of elevating to exotic.
I’ve gotten my fair share of Scholar’s/Bloodlusts and other upgrades worth over 5g.
If I don’t get anything, so what? I cleared tons of inv space at the expense of only a few copper.
I think the deeper question is why is Caithe attracted to Faolain? Nothing that came out of Faolain’s mouth that entire episode was redeeming in any way, shape, or form. It was all either lies, harm, wrong, violent, or speculation on a conversation that was none of her business. Caithe has awful taste in romance and treats her “friends” even worse.
It reminded me of how bad the Padme/Anakin romance was in the prequels. What did Padme see in Anakin? None of his actions or words had anything attractive in them. There is a reason people find the prequels deplorable: Jar jar and the relationship between Padme and Anakin lacked anything of worth.
As I was rereading the thread, I noticed you also made the Anakin parallel. Actually you posted it before me :P
It’s really a testament to what happens in storywriting between the lines. There’s only so much you can do with exposition. Love is weak in words and strong in character.
Evil is the same way except that you can say: Evil is weak in actions but strong in character. You can easily write out: “A mindless alien overlord who forces every living being to die a million painful deaths.” It’s a terrible action on mass scale. It’s also very boring.
So we can compare a pretty good example to our two “bad” examples.
Good:
Mr. Freeze from Batman. He does the stuff he does because his company, in a way, kidnapped his wife without any intent of returning her. The important part is that we as an audience first see that part. We learn to hate the company and THEN we see Mr. Freeze doing bad things. While we’re still rooting for Batman, we feel bad for Mr. Freeze.
Bad:
Anakin: “Obi Wan is mean to me!” “No one will ever understand me!”
-Well. Since we all agree with Obi Wan, and we’ll never understand you. You suck.
Faolain: “Wynne won’t tell me her secrets!” “Let’s go beat it out of her!” “Look at these filthy animals!”
-She seems nice though. How about we don’t beat up the nice lady? The centaurs are nice too. What’s your problem with them again?
So we have Mr. Freeze who loved his wife. Then we have Anakin who can’t take a little criticism and Faolain who … hates centaurs?

My best looking character:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Your-best-looking-character/page/4#post3334230
/kiss (don’t know how to describe this properly in english, but this would be like moving your head forward and closing your eyes, much like kissing… would make sense if someone else did the same! <3)
Not sure you want this while people like me are still in the game. Nothing will be safe!
Beware:
Air
Walls
Cows
Skritt
Queen Jennah
Charr tanks
Broken waypoints
Trahearne
Belinda’s Ghost
Lion Statue’s ankle
I’m coming for you!
Take a screenshot of all of the PMs and start a collection!
Like trophies they are.
1) Is Trahearne in it?
Yeah he is. There was one point where where my brother and I were doing a mission and he heard one of Sylvari plainly say something during a desperate scenario. My brother sarcastically said “Wow… that guy sounded like he was REALLY into it.” He looked again and noticed it was Trahearne.
2) Does it have legitimately good writing?
It goes back and forth. Note, this is speaking purely from opinion. I think a lot of people and me are really having a hard time connecting with most of the Sylvari characters, yet they keep becoming the focus. There was one part which had most of us GW1 fans excited, but it quickly got snatched away by a Sylvari. We’ll see what happens when the story gets back around to it.
3) Does it involve interesting game mechanics?
Well the new zones are very cool, they are a neat look on open world cooperative content, they are permanent and they look nice. The story missions themselves are fun. The challenge mission achievements for replaying them are great too.
So YES.
4) Does it have an enticing story driven by genuinely well written characters?
Like I said, there was part that enticed a lot of GW1 players. As far as the rest, _again, my opinion, most of it I’m just in for the gameplay and could take or leave the story itself.
I think most Asura characters in GW2 have been well written. Tiami is no exception. Now we have this other asuran who everyone HATES right now, but they hate this character for a good writing reason, not for a bad writing reason.
All in all, I willingly pay attention to the dialogue and am curious what happens next.
5) Are the rewards fun? CAVEAT: I don’t want to pay for rewards… I want a good story first and foremost.
Yes they are. Don’t let other people discourage you on this one. This stuff is permanent so not everything is meant to be 100% completed in 2 weeks. So finally we have neat stuff to work toward and we don’t have to rush it.
6) Is there an actual expansion with game content in the works?
Not that we know of. LS2 is a big step toward expansion-like compared to LS1, but it’s not quite there.
7) Is it worth the money?
How much is it? I got it free because I was lucky enough to be active during its uptime.
WHY YOU SHOULD TRY GUILD WARS 2 AGAIN
I understand everyone is different, but I can personally say I keep returning to Guild Wars 2 between other more involved games. The first time I took a long break, I returned just to level characters through dailies and got caught up in the Zephyr Sanctum which started me playing my 80s again. The second time I took a break, I returned to check out Dry Top and here I am still playing.
Just try not to be married to the game. I you hit hit burnout, you’ll find every decision that the developers make that you don’t perfectly agree with starts to hurt more and more. This is because you want to keep playing, but you’re bored unless you can get the game to add new stuff that suits your personal needs. Unfortunately, you and GW2 can not have a 1 on 1 relationship, it has thousands of other players.
So put the game on your PC. Get it up to date, even if you don’t want to play it yet. When you finally decide, hmm, maybe I should level an alt in GW2? You won’t have too much to download at that point. You never know when a few 15 minute bursts of gameplay could escalate into you dungeoning with people, working on collections and doing guild missions.
If you get bored, stop playing, but leave the files on your computer so you can jump back in again, again and again.
I merch my crystally/orby things unless they are worth more sold.
You might want to double check them orby things these days.
Amalgamated Gemstones say hello.
Thanks for the heads up!
I’m sure my daily routine makes a lot of waste :P
Please stop bringing up money. Most developers are gamers.
They probably looked at the daily system and saw a potential for improvement.
Wait until something actually starts demanding more of our wallets before you bring money into an argument.
Neat.
I’m glad to see we can still get features between feature packs.
But many may not consider it a ‘feature’ or ‘neat’.
Again, another unsolicited change while other fixes are still needed.
Many complained about the feature packs as well. It’s the internet.
I’m just saying I’m happy they aren’t saving every single QoL thing they do until March/April when they could release them now.
When they first added AP rewards, I farmed all dailies every day.
When they added the additional PvP stuff I stopped doing dailies almost entirely.
When they capped it at 10k I rejoiced.
I don’t consider it a slap in the face. I consider it time I now have to do other non-casual stuff.
Neat.
I’m glad to see we can still get features between feature packs.
You described pretty much what I do and how I choose to do it, yet I don’t jump 40-100g on weekends or zoom in mats.
So while you are “just doing it”, are you selling EVERYTHING that drops, to include mats? Are you getting exotics that you sell on the trading post? Are you harvesting every node you walk by? How many hours do you play on average on the weekends?
For rares I sell stuff like GSs, Staves and Hammers that are over 60s each. My MF is at 171% and I tend to get an exotic or two on weekends. I sell T5 mats and keep T6s. Sometimes I clear out my cooking section because I never use cooking anyway.
I merch my crystally/orby things unless they are worth more sold.
Mithril and Silk gets listed on the post as I have exceeded 1k.
I forge sigils and runes which usually leads to a worthless exotic with a few big hits on scholar and divinity from time to time.
I rush to sell new stuff. Made 21g off one of the new ascended SW recipies, the next day it went down to 5g.
Dungeon runs give their own money of course.
I tend to get a lot of Charged Cores too. I always sell cores.
I rarely gather nodes at all.
Champ bags I open, I don’t let them stack up.
Everything can be done in blues and greens (Been doing so quite successfully on my ranger until recently, even SW).
Was that you in my last fractals group? :P
Anyway, while I agree with the OP’s mindset. (Cosmetics are part of progression, they are a part of gameplay, they are a part of the reason people keep playing the game.) I do not agree that they are beyond reach.
GW2 is a “just go do something” type of game. You want to go do the new zone? Go do it. Was it fun, want to do it again? Go do it again. Got bored after three times? Go do something else. Guild is doing CoF? Tag along. Need a half hour break? Go to Sparkfly to get in a decent Tequatl group. Running across a canyon and you see a jumping puzzle you like? Go jump the puzzle.
I don’t consider that playstyle grinding at all, yet it’s causing me to jump up 40-100g on weekends and zoom in mats toward my next ascended item.
Actually when I first read the feature pack I thought it said that outfits would replace armor except headpieces and all outfit headpieces would become universal helms that could be worn on all armor.
That’s how it should be.
I expect at one point they’ll really look into underwater combat revamping.
Suppose they wanted to do underwater stuff with LS3, then we’d see a feature pack before it starts that looks into underwater combat.
i dont see any connection between gw1 10 year anniversary and opening cantha or tengu zones in gw2…
gw1 10 year anniversary should be celebrated in gw1 mainly… gw2 can have some 10 year anniversary gem shop hats…
Shhhuuussshhh!
We’ll take whatever new stuff we can get for whatever reason.
I think as another one of AsuraNet’s evil experiments, they have split the community in two and created a LFG translator that makes:
Test Group 1’s LFG message: “all welcome full clear” appear as “all welcome full clear” to other Test Group 1 members. In addition “80s speed clear exp zerkers” also appears as “80s speed clear exp zerkers” to other Test Group 1 members.
However, when Test Group 2 see’s Test Group 1’s LFG messages they see:
- “80s speed clear exp zerkers” as “first time, no zerkers, plz don’t use party chat”
and - “all welcome full clear” as “hardcore speed run, setting a record, no slow scrubs”
In addition, when Test Group 2 makes a LFG that says “AC story RP run” Test Group 1 sees it as “AC p1 skipping cutscenes”
Also the Test Group 2 ele trying to solo Mai Trin and repeatedly insta rezzing is having Test Group 1 people yelling at her “stop reviving, this is going to take hours without us!” while she’s reading “You can do it! We believe in you!”
You might want to focus on the actual issue which is you getting disconnected. Check the Tech Support forums or submit a ticket to see if you can get that problem resolved before asking for other players to be locked out due to your connection issues.
Please do not contribute to this new mentality that the players are responsible for getting DCed.
It happens. It just does.
Also I wouldn’t consider not getting into a Tequatl server that I didn’t wait for being locked out. The reason we currently get in full servers is at the misfortune of someone else.
There are at least 2 possible solutions for PvE:
1. Reserve a slot for a short period of time
2. Remember event contribution and reward the player whether they made it back ingame or not
or a combination of the two
And for PvP:
1. Calculate rank rewards based on total time spent in the match including BEFORE and AFTER the disconnection
2. Remember statistics
This way you take a penalty based on how long you leave your team marooned without you and NOT the current system where you take a penalty based on how lucky/unlucky you are depending on what point in the game you lost connection.
Well there is an element of truth to what Harper is saying.
I’ve always laughed about the way people keep saying they want more challenging content yet we can’t even find CoF P3 groups (which isn’t even that hard.)
So yes, it’s true that people resist challenges, especially in group scenarios. And yes it’s true that in other MMOs players would rather wait 2 hours for a healer than to try 5 secs worth of content without.
My solution still stands, but I’m not disagreeing that ^ ^ ^ is a side effect.
And that is precisely the reason why a drastic zerker nerf is a risk of turning dungeon runs into a rarity.
Why are we focused on gear though?
Traits are where the “meta” actually sits. Traits are what determines whether someone can for example, share their boons, or not.
I’ve seen rangers in zerker gear who had condition traits, downed traits, fall damage traits, arrow piercing traits, reviving traits.
The real meta is in stacking those +% damages while berzerker gear is only the complimentary stat combo. (Following the EVE rule: Don’t mix guns.) It’s the whole reason we use berzerker gear, because it does not contradict that build.
Other gear types and builds work in PvP. In fact, the tanky/healy types tend to wipe the floor with zerkers in Courtyard (Team Deathmatch.) So what does that tell you?
PvE is the issue. PvE just isn’t creating the situations where players are receiving so much chaos (faster enemy attack rates, CC spam, enemies that kite, reapplied conditions) that they have to tank and heal because they don’t have enough dodges. PvE isn’t providing situations where they have to split up and hold points against enemies who have a lot of dodges and neat tricks of their own.
As long as the dungeons are left at “stack on this corner and dodge every 7 seconds or so” then yes +50% damage does equal -50% time before reward. Wait, I think I just committed a math infraction. It’s not the gear’s fault.
GW1 had player mimicking enemies and it was cool.
(edited by DarkWasp.7291)
It’s a bit like investing in sand and telling people to make more glass.
Three cheers for free bags from Fractals! :P
I regret using those though. I’m always condensing my stuff.
Technically somewhere around April should be the next real feature pack. I know they’ve had a few people doing secret stuff.
playable dervish quaggans in clown outfits with capes riding flying mounts (Tengu) and swinging huge pink shining poles.
+1
ANet please add playable dervish quaggans in clown outfits with capes riding flying mounts (Tengu) and swinging huge pink shining poles.
Happened to me too. I think what happens is you use them on opening the chest, then you end up clicking again to try to get your loot and while you still get your stuff the chest is all like “Yo, get’cho hands off me you zero milestone scrub!”
I believe LFG abuse is the perfect category for this.
Hmm lets see:
Most HotM people are complaining about rangers in sPvP.
As a ranger I usually win against other rangers in a 1v1.
However good eles have a nasty habit of messing me up.
And the winner is: Ele
Also they are really fun in PvE.
Number one thing you can do is not fear it.
Except for Mai Trin, always fear Mai Trin
If you’re not comfortable in your high damage + dodging abilities, I would suggest getting soldier gear.
Power, Toughness, Vitality
You can get it with karma, you can get it with WvW badges, you can get it through PvP or dungeons.
If you can get that, not only will you be set for early fractals, but you’ll be set for open world content as well. In addition, you’ll be better suited then what seems like 90% of the other people I’ve succeeded fractals with.
Make sure you DO NOT (and I can’t repeat this enough) join a group that advertises “EXP” or “Experience” as one of two things can happen:
A. They can screw it up and still blame you, they aren’t as nice as the “all welcome” people.
B. They will actually do good and whenever you mess up you’ll feel guilty like they’ve found you out and your cover is blown. Also you’ll lose the ability to ask questions and you’ll find it generally more difficult to communicate with your team.
On the other hand, if you join an all welcome team, no one should be mad at you. Guess what? If they do get mad at you, it’s on them, not you. You have nothing to fear, you are in the right as long as you’re trying.
Almost all fractal groups make it through successfully. Fractals level 1 could be completed easily by one good player and two dead weights.
The easiest classes are Guardian, Warrior and Ranger.
Finally, I advise you keep up with fractals rather than disposing of it as soon as you’re done with Mawdrey. There’s a reason some people say its easy while others say its hard. That’s because repetition is practice. I personally went from being a guy who almost had to quit and fail AC story to an invitee to some of the fastest Arah speed clears.
“Message of the Day”.
Change it.
Problem solved, everyone in your guild gets the note.
Here’s the correct way to update a guild’s MOTD:
1. Click edit.
2. Type in your message.
3. PM everyone telling them to read the MOTD.
I like the idea of multi-mailing.
You’ll never land a date now that you don’t have your dowsing rod.
They’ll never hire you now that you don’t have your dowsing rod.
You will always get picked last now that you don’t have your dowsing rod.
What else?
Why do you bring a Ranger? Because you want more damage buff and you already have a warrior.
You don’t have to do warriors first, rangers second. They are pretty interchangeable.
Basically Faolain is Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars episodes 2 and 3.
A character that the writers were probably supposed to write as lovable but with issues. They decided to remove the lovable part but forgot to remove the references to it in everyone else’s dialogue.
Is it bad I didn’t even notice it was her?
Is it bad that I thought my brother (party member number 2 gets turned into straightfaced male sylvari) was Trahearne?
I don’t see why you wouldn’t try. Go ahead and join guilds, just keep your expectations in check.
The common story with casual guilds is that out of 30 people, 7-10 log on daily and you usually only see 2-3 others on at the same time. Roughly 15 of the non-loggers have either quit without saying so (or knowing, sometimes a break becomes permanent) or just log on once or twice a week.
It’s somewhat rare to find a guild that can help you fill a dungeon often (for example) if you’re going for casual. It is possible though.
However, these guilds will not often “abuse” you.
A good casual guild does not:
1. Say: “Oh you don’t have TS, that’s fine.” Then the next night: “MANDATORY TS MEETING NO EXCEPTIONS!”
2. Say: “Oh we’re just throwing extra crafting mats in the guild bank.” Then the next night: “EVERYBODY NEEDS TO PUT 10 SILK IN A DAY AT LEAST! WE ARE LOW ON SILK!”
3. Completely fail at dungeons.
4. Randomly transform into a serious PvP guild only to later fall apart.
OR
5. Allow harassment to get out of hand. (And yes, 40 year old women treating your 19 year old guys like babies DOES count as harassment too.)
Like I said though, that’s no reason not to try. I ran a casual guild at launch, it’s pretty much dissolved now, but many of us still keep in contact and play other games together. I’m also a member of another casual guild which is currently going strong, and one slightly more hardcore guild.
I don’t have a reason to leave any of them.
I am so sick of this discussion.
There will ALWAYS be some kind of meta, because there will ALWAYS be a most efficient way of clearing content. ALWAYS.True, but in group-based content, that meta could (with the right game mechanics) still involve different roles for different stat configurations. As opposed to a team of zerk, zerk, zerk, zerk, and zerk.
The question is: Would that lead to us returning to the old issue of having to boot people from our group because we already have 4/5 and have yet to get a healer?
Dedicated Healers were a thing in Guild Wars 1 yet it was entirely optional based on the mission at hand, even in the speed clears. It is not one or the other.
Short Answer: Doesn’t have to be.
Because of how action oriented GW2 is, the mechanics can allow these concepts to be recognized without them being mandatory. GW2 does not have classic MMO trope design, if anything borrows heavily from many high action shooters and hack and slash games.
Capitalize on that approach.
True. It would be hard to do, but it’s what we expected pre-release. That a team of 5 zerks could do it, but a balanced team could do it just as well.
GW1 did have a lot of specific builds though. Rangers weren’t part of many configurations and necros had an easy in just about everywhere.
Very nice!
Now if only we could use it to get back in the crystal zone.
I clear my block list often so I don’t have this problem!
Yep, yeah. I just had to be that guy.
Question though, where are you experiencing this? I get in with my friends all the time.
I am so sick of this discussion.

The summary from past threads about this is:
ArenaNet is doing a lot of work the game. We tend to forget that LS is actually a lot of stuff. It’s not what everyone in the community wants so some people overlook it.
A sub fee would not change their decision to make LS content rather than static content.
Well most of us are hoping for a buff in game content rather than a nerf in zerker builds.
It’s going to take some doing and a lot of tact.
As it is, there are a few dungeon paths out there that are more challenging and they are really just the ones you never ever see in the LFG ads.
A few things they could do:
1. Rethink defiance (as CC in most PvE content usually only goes as far as prepping a boss into a corner.)
2. Figure out a way to overcome the condition cap (they say this one has them stumped ATM)
3. Make more scripted Jade Maw type bosses as opposed to big HP pool champs/legendaries
For the most part, I feel the recent changes made it for the better too.
I’m getting into non-hotjoin rounds way faster.
Any way to fix this?
Sure, talk to your ISP and get your connection fixed so you don’t DC and leave the rest of us short-handed when you end up on our team.
Right, but stuff happens.
If you helped your team stomp the enemy 400 to 200 by killing 5 svanir/chieftans, why should that be forgotten just because you had to reconnect at the last moment.
It’s not like your contribution went away. If anything you should get 10% less rank if it was a quick reconnect, not 80% less (less than the losing team even.)
Furthermore, if you lag out at the beginning (a generally more crucial point in the game) you’re more likely to obtain full credit than if you lag out near the end.
It just isn’t fair.
Even though laggouts shouldn’t be happening, they do. No need to make a bad thing worse.
Yep same thing just happened.
Points reset to 0, rank points earned 300.
This NEEDS to be addressed.
