Q: Using a macro program to switch gear?

Will using a macro program, such as the one that came with my mouse, get me banned if I set up macros to switch gear sets/utility skills? I did this in Diablo 3 no problem and a lot of other games. I wanted to see what the real answer is so I figured I’d post here. Basically just having a macro that opens my bag, moves my mouse and equips all my gear in the blink of an eye. Is this ban material?

Vareah is correct. I played fire+air but the damage isn’t good enough for the amount you give up in survival. I have 0 stats in earth though. I do not use earth, I hate earth, I hate conditions. I cant stand sitting there on a boss having only 1/4 of my conditions applying on the target. I went fire with 20 arcana and I switch between water and air depending on what I’m going to do. All my gear is power>toughness>precision=crit damage = vita. Meaning I’m basically half Knight’s and half Valkyrie. I’m most pleased with this. Until more insight can be shed on the elementalist class, I will play like this. Doing good damage, taking good amount of damage, rage free.

Hello!

My very first character is a level 80 Elementalist and there is no doubt at all that I’ve enjoyed playing it quite a lot. The versatility of having so many skills and attunements to choose from is wonderful, though being stuck with one weapon set (and thus one range) can be a pain at times… especially in dungeons or against bosses.

I started out using mainly the Staff and then eventually switched to Dagger-Dagger which was, for me, much more entertaining since it has a much faster pace. Considering that I managed to get to level 80, do dungeons, participate in boss fights, clear maps, and so forth, the Elementalist class definitely isn’t impossible to play and too weak to bother with. It really depends on your personality, play-style, and the level of challenge you’re comfortable with.

That being said… I recently started playing a Warrior (now level 21) and the gap between the two classes is MASSIVE. I’m not a super-skilled player nor a really horrible one – I’d say I’m pretty average – and the Warrior is noticeably easier. I’m NOT saying that the Warrior is “better” (it may or may not be, I don’t know), but rather that the learning curve is much much much smaller than on the Elementalist. To succeed as an Elementalist requires a lot of thought, experimentation, and skill… As a Warrior you have a lot more leeway to make mistakes and still survive.

So it depends on how much effort you’re willing to put in! The Elementalist is a great class, but it’s definitely on the difficult end of things. : )

P.S. These are only my PvE thoughts. I haven’t delved into the world of PvP just yet so I can’t compare the classes in that light!

I agree. Elementalist might be seen the worst in the beginning of this game, but I feel that they will triumph in the end. Elementalist has ALOT to it.

A little more to add-
They restrict your skill usage so there’s no good or bad builds, but all they did was make your builds rely on stats not skills. If you reach level 80, test all your builds and stats. You will be surprised what you find. I prefer not to share my experiences/builds and rather let people experiment themselves. You will be a much greater player if you learn your class from the inside out. Don’t just look up a build and play it without understanding what the hell is so special about it.

The elementalist class does have a huge learning curve. It isn’t the easiest class to efficiently play. It takes a lot of testing and comparing to find a good build and stat priority. At first I was a rage fan that felt like my elementalist was by far to weak in damage and survival. Though after getting my full exotic gear and perfecting my traits I feel pretty at ease. I still feel alittle weak compared to warriors or guardians. Warriors put out so much damage and take so little. I can put out maybe as much as a warrior in a long fight, but would die in a few hits at first. Now I still put out maybe as much damage as a warrior but I’m one tough ele to kill. In-time as people find good specs and they get broadcasted throughout the web I’m sure the class wont be looked down on so much. Though, every class needs tweaking…that’s how it is with new games.

I made Elementalist my main character because it was my main in Guildwars 1. I would say that I do feel weak at times when theirs a warrior or gaurdian around me. Once I hit 80 I crafted every set and spent a few days just respecting and trying out different specs that fit the gear set. If you go glass-cannon you die almost instantly, I even built my self in cantrips to boost my survivability but its just useless. You do TO LITTLE damage while dieing in a few hits. I must of respect atleast 50+ times..I’ve finally found a spec that I am happy with, thought I wouldnt say its the strongest. I consider myself being able to put out decent damage, but consistently. I wear full exotic Knight’s/Valkyrie gear/jewelry. I’m basically running 2500 armor, 39% crit/45crit damage, 16k hp, and 3400 attack. I decided conditions are just pointless for PvE while the max stack is only 25 on one mob, while, I think, every class has condition applying skills? I’d rather not put time and money into condition gear when I have to wait my turn to apply conditions on a target. Back on subject, ele is not the best choice. Every time I see a guardian that knows half of what there doing, I say to myself “Whens that nerf coming, or wheres my buff?”.

Karma NEEDS to be account-bound

I agree with you 100%. You should take this post to the Reddit as well, if you haven’t already. I was already thinking karma WAS account bound…I made a new character to find out that it wasn’t. I’m extremely upset and I’ve pretty much lost my motive to make a new character. I was really looking forward to progressing BOTH of my characters while sharing karma. Spending karma on my new character which then would lead to farming karma on him later on. Playing the same character in grind mode can get very boring especially with the restriction of skill/spell setup. I’m not all about the premade setup of skills (excluding utility’s) but I love the game and I can learn to adjust.

I hope to see that karma becomes account bound. I would love to make a new character and be able to purchase karma gear as I level because I have the karma to. If you’ve made it to level 80 at least once then why can we use our karma on other characters? Also, why cant we gather karma on other characters while saving for our legendary? Don’t get me wrong I love to do events and such but I would really love to do it on all different professions then having to grind on the same character forever.
