That’s Claw Island. It’s a fort for the Lionguard and defends Lion’s Arch from the sea. It is only accessible during the personal story.

If you talk to some of the Jotun npcs, they explain that magic existed long before the gods ever showed up. The Jotun had this huge magical empire, not to mention mursaat, seers, and of course the dragons. But most races couldn’t use magic.

What Abbadon did (as I understand it) was to give magic to ALL races, including the newly arrived humans. But when all those lesser races starting killing each with magic, the gods took back the magic, and sealed it in the bloodstones. Now you get the different magic schools: destruction, preservation, denial, aggression.

I don’t know if the charr think of magic as “accepting Abbadon’s gifts”. After all, how would they even know he exists (back in the day, when they first got magical)? It’s the same thing with the grawl or the krait: they use magic, but they never “accepted” anything from any god. In gw1, most humans didn’t even know about Abbadon until he tried to take over the world. I don’t think Abbadon was like “hey, you, wanna have some magic?” It was just that one day, you couldn’t use magic; the next, you could. You didn’t know where it came from, and why would you think that some god had given it to you?

My two cents.

The Origin of Human Gods and the Arrival of Humans

While the gods are very closely associated to humans, and definitely brought humans to Tyria, there is nothing that actually proves that the gods used to be humans. Sure, they COULD have been, and that would explain a lot (like the whole kormir thing). But there’s no proof.

Asura gates an exploit? Pretty sure Anet meant to put those in…

Paying for waypoints is annoying. If we gotta have the waypoint fees, ok, I get that it’s a money sink and everything; but why do they have to be so expensive? Especially for the upper levels, the prices are just too kitten high.

About the tengu…sure Anet could make up whatever they want. I just honestly don’t see them putting tengu back in Cantha, when they could just as easily ‘make up’ a brand new race to live there. But that’s just me.

I see Dervishes as a maybe (Paragons, like you said, are a definite no). While Dervishes would definitely seem to fit in an Elona expansion, remember that Elona’s been pretty much crushed by Palawa Joko. According to the lore, both Vabbi and Kourna are completely dominated by the undead, and the sunspears have gone more or less extinct. Not a whole lot of Elonian culture going on, and probably not a whole lot of Dervishes. While I think we can all agree that Anet has plans to return to Elona at some point, I really doubt that it will resemble the Elona we all know and love from gw1.

Something that I’ve heard kicked around on the forums is the idea of having a playable race of Joko’s undead… I have no idea how Anet feels about that, but IF there was ever a time to introduce an undead race, it would be in an Elona expansion.

About the kodan.

First off, IF they were to become a playable race, they would get all kinds of new models. Having ‘plain’ models is no reason for them to be left out. I’m thinking of the charr in gw1 here: in Prophecies, you got your warrior types, your shaman types, and your little short guys. In EotN, they included all kinds of new models, with fat charr, skinny charr, tiger stripped charr, charr with big teeth, charr with big eyes, etc. And now, we got every kind of charr you could think of. There’s no reason kodan couldn’t work the same way.

There is already a good bit of lore on the kodan, and they’ve been separated from the minor races (think about: were you every able to choose to help the kodan in your personal story?). The kodan, like the tengu, are different from the primitive races; they’re waiting to become just as important as any human or charr.

And the speaking weird thing? Who says all kodan talk like that? Sure, all the ones we’ve seen; but we only see how they talk to strangers, not to each other. And having an unique way of speaking is, I think, refreshing.

So please, no more hate for the polar bears.

New profession "Wizard/Arcanist"

in Suggestions

Posted by: Dreamwalker.3617

Dreamwalker.3617

After reading through this thread, I see a whole lot of good ideas. But I can tell you right now, I seriously doubt that Anet will EVER put a wizard in the game. Something like it? Maybe. But never a straight-up wizard, and they would never call it that.

Why? Because Anet is trying to break away from tradition. We don’t have paladins, we have guardians. Really similar, sure, but they changed the name for a reason. Anet wants to be different. So instead of paladins and illusionists, we have guardians and mesmers. Instead of wizards, we have elementalists.

Again, some of these ideas are very nice. Having a profession with no weapons, while seeming to break the system, could kind of work (using rings, or even tattoos, as ‘weapons’ would make for a very original profession). But a wizard isn’t gonna fly. Call him an Arcanist, change around some of his stuff, then maybe you got something. But not a wizard.

My two cents.

FYI, Tengu aren’t in Cantha anymore. At all. Period. A Cantha expansion would have nothing to do with Tengu. Also, it’s mentioned that the Tengu are already under attack by destroyers, so I think we’ll see them with mr. Primordious, not Jormag. Not sure about the new class either, it really does seem too much like the warrior.

One other thing: what I really, really DON’T want this game to turn into is a dragon-killing fest. An expansion for each dragon, go and kill it, yay. NO. That’s boring. Anet has some really nice plot options for expansions, and I’d hate to see them throw the story out the window. How about we don’t fight Jormag for a while? Or how about we go visit Kralk, but don’t kill him? Just steal some of his stuff, fight the branded, and expand the story into the desert. Visit good old Palawa Joko, have some nice plot twists, see what’s happened in Elona… Keep growing the story, with memorable characters, complex and interesting plots, with plenty of emotion and tragedy and death and all that good stuff.

My two cents.

You got some great ideas, but your lore is…kinda wrong. It’s stated all over the place how the Tengu were kicked out of Cantha, along with all other non-human races. I’m sure that the Tengu will be added, but in the Dominion of Winds, not Cantha.

But I think the big issue is that your suggestions are just too darn complicated. I have a feeling that mounts will never be added, which personally I’m happy about; who needs mounts, when you’ve got waypoints?

Also, while new professions will probably be added at some point, I’d guess that they will be EXTREMELY different from GW1 professions. Just look at the professions we got now: ele, warrior, mesmer, necro, and ranger are carried over from GW1, but are for the most part very, very different. What I’m saying is, don’t expect dervishes and paragons in Elona, or ritualists in Cantha. Anet likes their originality.

Orr is supposed to be hard. And kinda annoying. It’s supposed to nearly drive you insane trying to do it. It’s supposed to be a CHALLENGE.

One thing you guys might want to try is changing your strategy. Bring skills that cancel conditions, bring ranged weapons, bring a fast build. Just pounding heads in might have worked before, but child, THIS IS ORR.

And I’m sure that the new zone will be very very different from Orr. Notice how every zone is unique; Anet doesn’t like getting repetitive.

Lunatic Inquisition: Strategies, Suggestions, and Stuff

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Dreamwalker.3617

Dreamwalker.3617

So, yeah.

Have you played Lunatic Inquisition? If you haven’t, you should. The longer I play it, the more I realize the genius that went into every little part of the minigame: the skills, the items, the map, the balancing, the events, Mad King Says.

For those of you who haven’t played Inquisition or just don’t understand it, here are some basic pointers.

The Top Ten Rules of The Lunatic Inquisition

Rule #1: Don’t die.
Rule #2: Run, hide, and use your stealth skill to avoid death.
Rule #3: Items give you skills; use them to avoid death.
Rule #4: Bring items to npc collectors to get bonuses and allies.
Rule #5: If you die, you become a ghost.
Rule #6: Ghosts kill villagers.
Rule #7: Use your fear skills to scare villagers out of hiding.
Rule #8: Use your ‘Mad King Says’ skills to force a villager to do an emote.
Rule #9: If all villagers die, ghosts win.
Rule #10: If any villagers survive the time limit, the village wins.

There are many different ways to avoid dying. In the early game, running away is easy, since there are only a few ghosts (who are also pretty slow). A good way to get easy points is to grab a hammer and wail on the first ghost; just don’t die.

Teamwork is great, but not necessary. Well organized villagers should try to keep tabs on the ghosts’ locations, at least in the early game. Ghosts could try trapping the villagers, flanking around their backs to cut off escape routes.

As the game progresses, more and more villagers are converted into ghosts (who are now much faster). This makes it harder and harder to survive as a villager, and also harder to find prey as a ghost. This is when hunkering down in a nice hiding spot is a good idea. There are all kinds of secret spots around the map, but you’ll have to find them yourself. I ain’t giving away trade secrets .

A few other things:
-The red faces on the walls? They ping the map whenever a villager gets too close. Don’t seem to be really important, but in the late game this could be deadly.
-Your score, the highest score, and the time remaining are at the top of the screen
-The first ghost will be chosen randomly from among the players; if the poor ghost is getting bullied by villagers, another ghost may be chosen to help
-Every item gives you different skills, and are good in different situations; the torch is my personal favorite
-Ghosts can use items (except hammers) to set traps for villagers; not mega-useful, but it does keep the items out of enemy hands
-The last villager alive gets a chainsaw

Suggestions for the Inquisition? My only one is that this game mode, or something like it, will be added to the permanent game. It’s just too good to waste.

What do you guys think? What are your strategies, suggestions, questions, or favorite Inquisition moments?

Bible of suggestions for Guild Wars 2's Lack of Longevity

in Suggestions

Dreamwalker.3617

Keep in mind that this game just came out a few months ago. Any of you guys play GW 1 back when it was brand new? It was completely different from GW 1 today: no expansions, no other continents, no heroes, no Nick and Yakkington, just the 1 storyline and pvp (which had way less arenas and guild halls, along with those premade builds).

My point is, GW 2 obviously isn’t perfect. But Anet will keep working on it, and a whole lot of those suggestions will probably end up in game. So don’t complain.

The ONLY way I can see mounts having a use is in PvP. There could be a map that’s just straight up mount wars, which could actually be a lot of fun. But waypoints make mounts for travel worse than useless.

Look, guys.

The problem with mounts is that there’s really no need for them. We have waypoints, end of story.

If people want mounts only in a certain zone (like junundu in GW1), that might be cool. We could have mounted mobs and npcs, that would make things more interesting.

But other than that, I’m completely against the idea. And I’m pretty sure Anet is too.

We’ve got a bug at Altar Brook Vale, where there’s a centaur archer with the “Determined” boon, making him invincible. It says it wears off in 18 hours.

Not sure whether it’s from the “Defend Altar Brook” event or the caravan, but both events are stuck because of this guy.

A fix would be appreciated.
