I haven’t tried Zerker ranger in a while, but it was great at picking off people in team fights and was very good at +1ing a fight.

You effectively were like a thief but with less mobility and didn’t actually need to get to the point to kill people.

But, metas change, so idk how this meta is currently, however I’m sure it’ll work at least decently if you play it right and are not in the upper divisions

Birds at least almost made some sense back when boons were fairly rare. If you don’t have perma swiftness or a movement trait on any profession these days you’re a total noob.

The ridiculously long animation also made sense when it gave quickness and they evaded during it… but that was so long ago

So long ago that it never have worked that way?

It never made it to live that way, that’s for kitten sure, it worked that way back when the gold Mia was still a tameable pet though.

And drakes are bugged again? I need to check that out…

Support ele is still very strong. If you play support ele and can’t win matches, try something easier.

Any other ele puts your team at a disadvantage. If you play non-support ele, switch to any build that is appropriate for the meta.

If you’re losing matches with p/p thief, it’s because you’re playing a garbage p/p thief. Switch to something better.

The thing is, I’ve mained ele since launch. Ele was my baby, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong anymore.

Hi! I’m new to PvP and just did my first ranked placement with an ele (d/d, W/E/T, non-auramancer). I won 6/10 of my placement matches and was placed into gold 1. I’m not sure how good/bad that is, but I’m hearing that’s pretty average? I guess I can’t complain about that for a first attempt.

Just a thought. If you can’t rely on your team, maybe you’d be better off playing something off-meta with better personal survival and a bit of offense to apply some pressure yourself without having to rely on teammates as much?

Auras are great team support and healing, but if you’re just by yourself in outnumbered fights because your teammates can’t stay alive even with support, why not drop some auras and beef up your defenses with more selfish utilities? You could perhaps make it easier on your team if you’re able to tie up 2 or more enemy players for a time without dying. It works for me…sometimes!

I don’t know if I made it clear in the 1st post (I’m not trying to sound anal or anything so please don’t take it that way!)
I’ve mained ele since GW2 launch. I’ve been that godly ele up until this season. Maybe it’s because I’m out of practice? Not sure. Each game I decide to play my tempest, I get steamrolled. I can have top stats but it makes no difference.
So, I know how to play ele; I’m just having a case of wtfisgoingon xD

He’s not claiming you don’t know ele, I had to do the same thing on my Druid/ranger, my team was so busy eating paint chips I ended up switching to an extremely selfish bunker build, walking onto far or mid and just pulling as many people from the enemy team as possible and trying to weather the storm to turn the rest of the game into a 4v3 or lower in the hopes the idiots I was pared with could figure it out when they’ve got an advantage.

I actually switched to a d/d condi-ish ele & i love it. I have much better results but my teams are squirreling jerks who won’t cap. That’s what makes me lose. Support tempest will get out CCd, support tempest will get out anythng if your team is incompetent.

I feel your pain, it literally just comes down to praying you don’t have a kittenty team, but GW2s matchmaking doesn’t seem to ever work very well sadly, and it ends up just being like 1-2 good players per team trying to herd the idiots on their team to a victory.

I know you don’t have to win to get them, but that’s a terrible mentality “idc if I play badly, i get them anyways.”

Why then does playing in unranked make it any different?

Elite Specializations - were a terrible idea

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Elite specs were supposed to give professions a new role to play with, improve, or even add, a new way of playing your character.

For example, Rangers didn’t have a very good healing spec and Druid was addressing exactly that. However, they also gave Druids massive damage boosts, good CC abilities and in general made Druid essential even for non-healing gameplay

Daredevil offers a new way of playing the damage role without relying on Stealth, unlike Core Thief builds. Huge nerfs to Stealth made other play options far less appealing than using Daredevil. It also didn’t help that the whole idea of the Daredevil conflicted with the Acrobatics line, which was nerfed in order to make Daredevil the new “acrobat”

Tempest is another example of an elite spec causing nerfs to core specs. They nerfed Aura gameplay of Elementalists because Tempest was going to offer new Aura gameplay.

Elite specs shouldn’t make you better at everything you do. They should’ve been created in a way that opens up new builds and ideas, but not buff all existing builds.

See for example how Druid doesn’t buff condition damage Rangers, so the condition damage Ranger build in PVE doesn’t use Druid.

Scrapper does not buff Engineer dps in a considerable way (in PVE), therefore both condition and power meta engineer builds in PVE are not utilizing Scrapper. However, when the survivability of the Scrapper is needed (like in sPVP) Scrapper dominates

Just kinda adding onto this, Druid doesn’t add ANY damage to the ranger, in fact it actually guts your potential damage because you give up having a 3rd offensive traitline, AND using the Druid class mechanic alone is a huge DPS loss since the only damage you deal is through your pet or utilities since all your skills become support focused.

2v2s are coming?

in PvP

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

But let’s see how things will work, probably 2v2 will die on the custom arenas, it’s expected to be this way.

They made a “2v2 map”. This just tells me it’s a smaller version of Courtyard so… if they don’t make any tools to add in-game functions to make it a legit 2v2 custom arena then it’s going to be as popular as it is presently… not popular.

I truly hope they actually add map timers, round-robin, two stomp wins, winner stays till next round, etc etc. These are the tools; certain in-game specific rules, that players would like to incorporate for a solid 2v2 custom arena. Not Just a smaller Courtyard map.

Of course Anet could throw a curve ball at us and say, “There will now be 2v2 queuing during off Season.” /crossesfingers

You’ll now be able to select “Arena” in the custom arena options. In this mode, our 2v2 map is the only map option. It changes the rules to a “deathmatch” style game. No score, just kill the enemy. You can also select a number of rounds, a time limit, team size and some other options. Should the match get to the end of time, we have a mechanic to effectively shrink the playable area, and turn off healing and stealth, in an attempt to force players into combat.

Omg, this sounds incredible!! Can you please actually support a 2v2 style of PvP? I’ve always felt like they’re far more interesting to watch and allow a more diverse set of builds.

why are canine still not amphibic?

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I would say it has more to do with how the animals are. Dogs can swim, but as far as I’m aware they don’t hunt in water. On the other hand Bengal tigers do hunt in water, it’s something they’ve learned to do. It’s the only reason I could see for the distinction that fits with RL. I’m not against the idea, I’ve just never seen any hound or wolf hunt in water.

This makes sense, although I kinda wish they’d have made them amphibious regardless since several NpCs have amphibious canines (usually a fern hound).

But alas, anet seems to want underwater combat to go away and never come back much to my dismay.

My bad i didnt looked it up, but still is there a swimming fernhound in bloodstremcoast and they dont made canines amphibious even if dogs swim.in real life and a lot of wildcats dont.

You can also send your canine pets to go attack underwater enemies and they will go into the water and actually attack, and they all have swim animations.

I don’t know why they decided to make them not amphibious since, as you said, dogs are more renown for swimming than cats are, yet the cats are amphibious for w/e reason.

Citadel of Flame needs Rework

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Watch the cutscenes and know that Anet has already made their stance on dungeons clear. It is discontinued content.

If they don’t want to maintain content, it should not be in the dailies where it will be regularly interacted with.

We the players asked for it hence why its in the daily rotation.

We the players have also asked for dungeons to get reworked to be more like aetherpath (or at least just be updated to not be so outdated) but that sure hasn’t happened.

The main problem with them not updating dungeons is that they’re what players see long before they hit level 80, and it really just makes new players not too excited for what raids or fractals can bring when dungeons are so…. well, to put it bluntly, bad.

Phantasam Suggestion

in Mesmer

Durzlla.6295

  • OH Sword (slightly modified, but a short evade frame would fit with sword overall, plus the leap would be a nice gap closer for MH sword as well)

It wouldn’t only be good as a gap closer but also as a small disengage, to then further space with sword 3, or a weapon switch to GS and a Illusionary Wave, followed up with a backdodge to then have a decent range to keep attacking with GS. Would really love to see this happen.

On the other side, I’m not sure if I’d like it if every phantasm attack would be used as the summon attack. I think the phantasm would kind of lose their identity. Atleast for me.

Oh I agree that not every phantasm should be given this treatment. But I think that Sword, Staff, and Pistol phnatasms would benefit from it, and it would also make sense, and it would also fit the theme of those weapons extremely well. Berserker, torch and focus would not be a great fit in my opinion (and I don’t really care about UW phantasms).

I fully agree that sword and pistol should more closely resemble their phantasm skill, staff I’m kinda unsure about, because I really like being able to throw out 3 autos with it, but would also really like being able to fire out a Warlock blast before summoning the Warlock…

I mean, the Phantasm Skill we have for greatsword already feels very similar to how the Berserker acts, the only difference is instead of us spinning, we throw a sword that spins there and comes back.

and does damage that is hardly any better than having done nothing at all… we were told that these new attacks added to phantasm summons were to “improve mesmer sustain damage” but what improvement have they actually provided? with exception of like one or two skills they have done nothing to improve our sustain… for crying out loud they copy pasted our auto-attack on two of them, and proceeded to make the already weak attack even WEAKER on one of them…

If they really wanted to improve our sustain damage, then these attacks should at least be equal in damage to a single attack from the phantasm.

I never said the damage was fine, I said the skill animation/effect of summoning the berserker on greatsword kinda already fits with how the berserker acts, since OP was talking about making the phantasm summon skills work like the actual phantasm attack and then summon the phantasm.

Mesmer change for future balance

in Mesmer

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Power Block and Deceptive evasion are fine where they are, and either way moving them wouldn’t make sense since it wouldn’t fit the theme of the trees, duelist is all about evading attacks, causing blinds, and using a weapons a duelist would (sword, guns), where domination, much like in GW1, is about asserting your will over your enemy and making them take more damage, removing boons, and shutting them down with interrupts.

I mean cmon, you can’t say dueling is more about interrupts than Dom when Dom has minor traits that give you benefits for using CC

I run my Magi set on my Druid on literally everything, since I like playing as a support/healer, and Druid buffs the party’s damage quite significantly by healing, that and I don’t trust most PuGs to have any self survival instinct or ability to stay off the floor.

That being said, Condi gear is extremely nice to have as a ranger/Druid, condi ranger is some of the highest damage in the game last I checked, and condi Druid actually does pretty decently, but trades some of its damage away for the avatar state and the support/healing it provides.

Constructive Rant on Balancing

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

For instance, has it ever occurred to you that Druid has ‘awful’ damage for a reason? Perhaps that’s intended?

I have no dog in this fight but I do have to question what reason could that be or intent?

I guess it depends on the format of play but I do not see a reason for “awful” damage say in WvW. Just one example. Maybe that isn’t fair because, well, I think most of us know that format is broke…

How does the Druid’s sustain compare to other classes? Is balance there all things being equal, if possible, outside the player skill?

Put simply, game balance. Every playstyle should have a weakness in a game like GW2. If a build is too mobile, damaging, survivable and supportive all at once then there is no reason to play any other build. This doesn’t mean that every build should be able to compare itself to another, trading off a point of damage for a point in survivability and the like at a one to one rate.

The druid traitline focuses on healing and amplifying allies, as an elite spec, that should make the traitline definitive of what your build is supposed to do. As an elite spec, the goal is to dedicate yourself to support, by the nature of having more healing abilities you are more survivable so that means you have to pay in mobility or damage. Since rangers have good mobility and it’s difficult and more against theme to reduce that with Druid, damage has to the part that suffers.

It’s not that your damage is reduced for being a druid either, but that you miss out on damage options by taking Druid, are encouraged to take healing options over damage or active defence options for better astral force gain and results in basically no damage output in celestial avatar form. Damage output seems like it was always intended to be the weakness of a druid.

Interesting take, not that I disagree but I guess my point is that other classes have more sustain. Warrior and Ele come to mind. Be that has it may I don’t see much balance regardless of class.

Just my opinion anyway. No big

The thing with those two classes is it’s self sustain, where a Druid has group or team sustain, and also is extremely supportive. Think of going Druid like going bunker Guardian back in the day, you trade away your damage potential for ridiculous sustain for you and your allies. However, Druid doesn’t have quite as much self sustain as they because they also have a lot more mobility, and group sustain/support.

Right you don’t mean water ele, Right?

i’m tired of seen the immortal bunker ele in clerics that magically swap to air and the amount of damage is astounding. When not in water healing the zerg how the druid is supposed to do.

Hey let’s not forget Ventari revenant which can heal for a lot more than the druid. And then swap to whatever instance and begin the song of the mad output DPS.

Yeh sure lotta balance this game has.

Gotta say, I haven’t played in PvP in a long time, so I’m not sure what’s roaming around the nets nowadays, but I’m pretty sure that just due to how else and rev work that they lose their sustain when they swap out of their “healer” form. And last I checked, unlike Druid whose healing and sustain is very bursty, and when used right can counteract burst, theirs is all sustain and can’t handle burst as well.

But again, I haven’t played against those two builds since I haven’t PvPed since like season 3 or somethin like that, I’m gonna have to jump in a few games next week and check this out before I comment more on the subject.

Bad news about the next Mesmer specialization

What a thematic failure! Is it just me or does dagger makes much more sense for Mesmer? On launch I was shocked to see Mesmer wielding swords and great sword as opposed to daggers, but this is just to far (in the wrong direction). Daggers are associated with deception, and axes are associated with barbarity…which one sounds more like a Mesmer?

Not sure, I’ll get back to you once I see how it feels to have my clones and phantasms bash peoples heads in with an astralaria skin (which I have yet to make). XD

In all seriousness though, while I get the thematic trouble some might see, I always felt like mesmer was the confusing type of caster breaking all norms. Let them Elementalist and Necromancer pansies carry daggers, we’ll bash skulls in with sword and (hopefully soon) axe.

I know I enjoy Mesmer using their weapons in weird ways lol, however I do kinda wish the offhand sword were an offhand dagger so we’d have a more “fencery” style to Sword/Sword, because as it is it feels kinda weird…

Because of this my Mesmer uses a gigantic sword skin in their off hand and a smaller one in their main hand #screwlogicimamesmer

Great advice, by the way. I joined a dragon’s stand meta group and got kicked out of the proper map during the dragon death thing.

This always happens. You’re supposed to join a squad before the map closes, and then when you die, you get to a new map at that time, then you right click on the commander and join in his map.

That’s how I do it and it works.

The map was full.

keep trying, might take a minute or two, but someones bound to leave for who knows why.

If I was able to do it, I’d make all weapons hybrid, or at least have skill options for power, condi or both allowing the player to decide how they want to use the weapon and not saying “you can only play this with a power build” etc.

I hate restricting weapons to either power or condi. It limits build possibilities.

Fully agreed on the limitation, but I’d go about it a different way: I’d remove stats on gear / items / runes / sigils.

The focus on conditions vs power then becomes a matter of class, trait and weapon design.
And as a result, maybe some classes are always about conditions. Or maybe not. Or some weapons are for conditions, some for power, some a mix. But you wouldn’t shut out part of them with your gear choice.

If they flat out removed stats I would be so happy

Oh don’t get me wrong, if they made our phantasms wield the legendary we’re using instead of the normal phantasm weapon i’d be overwhelmed with joy and would drop everything to get Quip lol

I never understood why the pistol phantasm didn’t use the skin of quip/hope if you were using those. The phantasm has the same weapon as the one you used, unlike some of them, so it should be easy to give it quip/hope.

Pretty sure the phantasm uses the pistol skins Ilya and Lyss

THE PACKMASTER
The Packmaster handles a multitude of beasts, controlling as many as companions with their scepter-whips. They travel the world to gather some of the largest and most dangerous beasts for their pack, gaining the Minion utility skills type.

Class Mechanic
The Pack. Packmaster uses only 1 type of pet (keyed to the first terrestrial and aquatic pet slots) but may have up to three present at once. Each pet inflicts roughly 40% of the damage of the standard Ranger pet and has roughly 60% of a standard pet’s health. Only the pet closest to the Packmaster responds to f2 commands and shout skills.
Reinforce (f4). Summons 1 additional pet if less than 3 are present and counts as pet swap for traits.

Scepter (whip)

  • Whiplash (auto-attack). 320 range narrow cone whip attack (As seen with various Nightmare Court enemies). 3 damage ticks with Torment on the final tick.
  • Strangle. Animated whip lashes out to wrap around target’s throat. 600 range. Channeled immobilize & weakness
  • Crack the Whip. Up to 300 range 2 second fear, up to 600 range 1 second fear. Blast finisher.

Utility – Minions
Blood-Bat (Heal Skill). Large red bat transfers life to Packmaster and casts darkness fields on command.
Chromatic Ooze. Ranged poisoner. Taunts and becomes invulnerable on command.
Bull Minotaur. Melee brawler. Charges/knock down on command.
Griffon. Flying bleeder. Evades on command.
Rock Dog. Melee crippler. ‘Hunker-down’ block/regen on command.
Mature Karka (Elite Skill). Armored behemoth. Poisons/immobilizes on command.

Traits (Minor)
Run with the Pack. Gain pack of pets, reinforce (f4), access to the scepter, and minion skills.
Revenge for the Fallen. You and of your all pets & minions gain Quickness when one of your pets or minions dies.
Feral Sacrifice. You and of your all pets & minions gain Protection when one of your pets or minions dies.

Traits (Adept)
Master of the Lash. Strangle pulls and knocks down at end of channel. 20% cooldown on Scepter skills.
OBEY! All minions gain +20% HP. 20% cooldown on minion command skills.
To Me! Cast reinforce on taking fallen damage or resurrecting an ally (45s ICD). Falling damage is halved.

Traits (Master)
Never Alone. All pets gain +10% for 6 seconds and any remaining cooldown on f2 is reduced by 2 seconds when Packmaster is CC’d.
Resurgent Arrival. Reinforce cleanses 2 conditions.
Endless Menagerie. All minions gain small self-heal over time. 20% cooldown on minion summon skills.

Traits (Grandmaster)
The Horde. Your pack may have up to 4 active pets. Pet hit points reduced by -10%.
Tyrant’s Lash. For each active pet, 8% of all damage Packmaster takes is distributed to that pet.
Dogpile. If two or more pets are active, a second pet respond to F2 commands and shouts after a 3 second delay.

If anet gives me this I will throw so much money at GW2…

I’m not a HUGE WvW player so I may be a tad misinformed, but when I was in WvW a week ago I ran base ranger (so not Druid) zerker LB build and was doing fine with picking people off.

Druid also does well if you want to be a beacon of life in the Zerg, but that’s not something most people like.

TLDR: Druid is a damage nerf, don’t take it if your goal is murder

Durzlla.6295

I’ve not heard much about our moas since they got there auto attack range increased. They’re are not the go to pet in pvp, so no wonder. Still, would be interesting to hear peoples opinions about them now – did the extended reach help them land their attacks, or is it as bad as it’s always been?

The Moas land them more often than they used to (which was never) and now their pecking extravaganza move is buffed and actually useful, making them pretty solid in the support pet department.

However, they don’t do a ton of damage, and they have issues hitting people with more than base move speed, I really wish they’d just make our pets work like Mia Morph where every attack lunges them at their target (think pre rework sword)

Glass Fresh air and glass staff ele both work just fine in the meta, they’re just REALLY hard to play so they will never be “meta” since in GW2 meta builds are measured by how low the skill floor is, not how high the skill ceiling is.

The “burst the pet”strat is exactly why I love using jaguars, a lot of people mistake the stealth with a swap lol, pair it with a bear or drake or some other fat tanky pet to soak hits and not worry about needing CDs and you’re guaranteed a short swap.

I’ve never gotten any of the cat/bird family pets to work in WvW after HoT. They couldn’t keep up with the power creep and a lot can happen during the 20s/16s pet swap cooldown.

Lol when I duel people they say oh it’s your pet, so I swap and try birds and such, it’s annoying that the pet the whole fight could not land even 1 attack and dies to the slighted bit of cleave/aoe.

Someone made a video awhile back and showed how a moaed pet is better than a regular pet

Lol that was actually me who did that xD

It’s just saying that now if you want to heal as a Druid you gotta take healing gear. What Druid offers to damage builds is a 15s CD stunbreak + condi purge, passive swiftness/15s CD stealth and super speed, and then entangling roots on a CCed target you hit.

Don’t expect Druid to gain anything else for damage builds since it’s meant to take Ranger down a more supporty path, so the role will always aim for support.

There was a thread a while ago about improving Glyph of Unity since it’s pretty lackluster for an elite and only brought in PvE so we can either do a burst heal in CAF or just spam it off cooldown for the seed.

One of the suggestions were to rework it completely so that you share boons to tethered allies in one state, and share conditions to tethered enemies in another state.

Thoughts?

While this would be interesting, I doubt they have a system in place that would make it work like that.

Probably much easier to ask for a significant buff (like reflecting 50% damage) to the primary mode than to ask for something that will require them coding a new way to apply and monitor buff/debuff duration.

Revenant Mallyx Elite literally transferred condis to every enemy in range before it was reworked…

Durzlla.6295

I’ve been reading all these posted forums about rangers or to be specific druid trait. To be honest the ones crying only made ranger because of druid and cries when it was legitly adjusted. Sotp was an obvious one and shout heal as well. Cele form fix is perfect because it became to forgiving for mistakes with ‘We heal as one’ gaining cele form fast with Regen boon not even counting staffs healing skills. The shortbow was needing some love and we got it. Finally we have a unblockable skill/trait for our pets. Greatsword had some attention. Also, I got to say is if the Cele form and the two shout skills really ohurts your only build you play it seems from what I’ve read; you’ve made the ranger class for the wrong reason. So just leave the class to the vets and stop crying about your HoT influence toon or actually play the ranger class besides playing your bunker pet carrying druid build. This is coming from a 4 year old ranger with no problems with adapting.

Long live Tyria!

Its not fine not until you fix the AF build up scale a little better with damage. If that does not happen, Druids are still pigeonholed into NM/BM/Druid Staff Menders.

I am talking bout higher MMR matches here against skilled players/organized teams. So please think over your rebuttal.

If you know how to play ranger or at all besides meta build like me you will do fine in ‘higher mmr’. Your reply is not productive but trying to rationalize that I’m speaking on low tier terms aka suck. Guess I hit a soft spot on your nerves.

Are you using that “if you know how to play ranger” at me? are you for real? But seriously, just answer my question. Will ranger be viable in top tier outside NM/BM/Druid Staff menders?

You will not do fine vs Organized teams. AGs? really?

If you are good, yes.

Can vouche for this, I was running Marks/Skirm/BM almost every season before last and was having literally 0 issue with PvP games.

Of course, its solo q. Anything can work. I am talking about actual tourneys.

Seeing as how Eurantian was rocking glassbow ranger and winning in tourney matches back when glass bow was hot garbage, back when LB was just flat out worse than SB, and there were no good traits for it etc. I’m sure it’d work nowadays in tourneys if any team was willing to use a build not found on meta battle.

I don’t remember any pet other than bears and drakes working in any large scale WvW since our pets just kittening evaporate in the AoE there… I was talking more of sPvP and WvW skirmishes.

Granted, Jaguar works decently in WvW because of the stealth, you can send him in, stealth him, have him maul a squishy for a little bit then swap him to something fat and tanks and repeat in ~15s
