[ASURA] Character Creation: head size customization missing (Oct 8th)

Egon Vidar.9125

Oh kitten I have so many visual issues with so many of my characters, my asura already had glitched eyes and buggy eyelashes, but I told myself, “At least he doesn’t have a giant bobblehead.”

Of course, that didn’t last, either.

I really like how he looked before, the massive head really bothers me. God I hope this isn’t intentional, what a horrible idea.

I pointed out in my post that I would actually prefer it to be more difficult and harrowing via animal AI.

And I’m an Engineer. If I use Static Shot while I’m standing in an exceptionally large group of animals, I’m pretty screwed. Turrets can have the same problem by firing off and randomly hitting a red target I didn’t intend for it to. I have to be mindful of what I’m doing and pay attention, and I’m fine with that.

If I were running through a flock of moas with a group of better-AI wolves chasing me and I made the terrible decision to use Static Shot, that would be hilarious and also entirely my fault.

[BUG] Undead Risen Foes movement bug?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Egon Vidar.9125

This happens to me from time to time. If I have to run through a group of Risen I normally drop a stimulant from my med kit, but when the Risen go haywire and run in fast forward like that, I can’t outrun them. So one will catch me and slow me down, and due to their aggro range, I’ll have a Risen group pileup.

Or have several speedster Risen after me at once, but thankfully it’s uncommon enough that it doesn’t happen often.

I have no idea if it’s intentional or not, I kinda hope not. I like a challenge, but it makes moving through Orr by myself a nightmare when this happens.

The animals really do need slightly improved AI and spacing, right now they honestly feel like cardboard cutouts or machines walking around. Their only use is loot, meat shields, and making your journey a bit more difficult, and not in a fun, challenging way.

If Anet can make AI for Heroes and Henchmen in GW1, then basic animal AI can’t be a problem.. It just looks on the outside that the game was rushed enough that no one even thought about it. Or they didn’t care.

Animals can be a challenge, and could change how you play the game. In Skyrim, if I heard wolves howling and I was already in trouble, I’d hunker down and hope they would pass. In Red Dead Redemption, if I heard a cougar scream and I wasn’t on a horse, I would run like hell while calling my horse, hoping it didn’t get to me first – part of that was due to how RDRs game saves are infrequent, but I still wouldn’t want one of those mountain lions after me even if the game saved constantly. They’re fast enough that it’s disorienting, leaving you barely any time to retaliate or think of an escape. In RDR, if you hear a rattlesnake and you can’t see it, your options are frightening and limited. Do you freeze and hope it moves into view, or run and pray you’re not barreling right toward it? In GW2, if a jaguar comes after you, the worst you have to put up with is waiting for it to show up again after it uses its Stealth skill. Then you just stand there and wail on it until it dies, more of an inconvenience than a real obstacle that needs to be planned around.

Yes, there are bigger problems to deal with, but this is one of the things that would do so much to make GW2 feel like a living, breathing game. Those two games mentioned above are the two most “alive” feeling games I’ve played yet, and both of them have solid animal AI.

Recent change in charr shoulder armor scaling

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Egon Vidar.9125

Egon Vidar.9125

The upper arm portion of the armour is also different, not just the shoulder piece, so it was almost certainly manually tweaked.

I don’t know why. It made her look a lot more intimidating before, in the second one you can see how small she really is. It would make any Charr look smaller, honestly, and that doesn’t seem like a very Charr-like thing to do.

Yes, it’s more streamlined and less clunky looking, and that’s the problem; sometimes clunky works. An artist/designer needs to know when to quit and leave things alone.

My Charr, while male, also has the smallest/thinnest body type. I kinda hope none of the medium armours have this problem.

Engineer as my main, I also like my Ele and Ranger quite a bit. I mostly played Eles and Rangers in GW1. I don’t usually like playing melee classes, but I’ll switch to melee on my ranger from time to time.

I’m a quiet person. I like to help others, but I don’t tend to have a lot of patience for their company.. at all. It doesn’t mean I’m necessarily a jerk (not usually), but I’d just rather be by myself.
That’s irl. I do like playing with others in GW2, but on my own terms, and as an Engineer, I like that I can explore and survive without having to rely on anyone.

I think the combat in this game feels very stale.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Egon Vidar.9125

Egon Vidar.9125

On the contrary, compared “that” other MMO (as that was the one I had played for years before GW2, and so is a fine candidate for comparison), combat feels very fluid and dynamic. I don’t miss the loads of other abilities my “Rogue” had back then, as I had a set rotation which rarely changed.

The more I’ve played with my thief, and reading learned people’s thoughts – I have different weapon sets for different situations… I combine skills together to get maximum effect, I dodge, I stay alive and I go toe-to-toe with mobs in a glorious fashion.

I really don’t think “stale” is appropriate.

This is how I feel, and I’m definitely no fanboy – I have my own serious gripes with the game. Combat, though, is not one of them. I like that I can actually move around pretty fluidly and set up strategy around movement combined with my skillset, but those mechanics don’t revolve around skill variety as much. The OP has more of a beef with skill variety than the actual combat itself, it seems.

I don’t have a problem with either. I play an Engineer as my main, which means a truckload of variety, but I’m not disappointed in my Ele or Ranger, either. I work with what I’ve got, and I enjoy it.

Though, yes. If you really want tons of skills, go with an Engineer. Weapons are very limited, but each battle is constant motion and frequently changing kits.

Between the bugs, the DR, and the camera so screwed up it makes me physically sick if I’m not careful, sometimes I wonder why I don’t just delete the game. Then I remember that I like playing with my friends.

What amazes me is that after all the “hoopla” about the new game, no one at GW
is corresponding with the players and letting them know when these bugs will be fixed
(if fixed at all). I suggest they take some of the profits from the sales of the game and hire a good Public Relations Team.

My suggestion for the day!

I think they need to hire more folks. I keep getting the impression that they’re sorely understaffed to handle such a giant influx of players, and the hundreds of things that have suddenly broken. And it’s all piling up faster than they can handle..

Yet another person here begging and pleading for these broken SPs to be made into communes. It’s not as if you’ll be “taking away” something terribly challenging for us, most of these fight SPs are insanely easy.

Don't be one of *those* roleplayers

I’m a roleplayer. I have been for 16 years.

That said, if a group of RPers are sitting around in an event area, making an already tough event even more difficult and potentially even getting XP from the event for your hard work, then that isn’t cool. That is incredibly, mind-blowingly lame. The game was created to be played, it was not made with RP in mind (not even Tarnished Coast), and I’m sorry to say that roleplayers don’t come first. If you’re being a detriment to other players, you need to have some courtesy and decency, and move yourself somewhere else. It just seems like this would be common sense.

These are the sorts of RPers that give the rest of us such a horrible reputation.

edit for clarification: I’ve had events credit me and reward me when I never participated, only stood nearby, it appears to be a bug.

Lately I’ve been developing severe headaches and nausea, to the point that I was sick to my stomach earlier today.

Finally put it together and realized that, no, I don’t have the flu, it’s the camera in the game and it happens if I play for a bit over an hour at a time. Wow. Seriously?

I love this game, I really do.. And I’m normally really laid back and patient. But between bugs breaking things where ever I go, more and more each day, and worse with each patch.. and now the camera making me -physically ill-, I’m getting really fed up.
I played GW1 for seven years and was pretty hyped up for this game, I expected an improved experience over the original that came out in 2005. GW2 is certainly prettier, and it has some great concepts, but with all its issues, I can play the original instead and have a better time.

There are so many bugs messing me up no matter where I go that the game is becoming off putting. It’s a beautiful game and I love it.. When it’s not busted. My wife won’t even play anymore and won’t be playing until things are more stable. She only played the game for two days, she’s much less tolerant of this stuff than I am, but even I’m hitting my breaking point.
We didn’t pay $60 each for a broken, unfinished game and an exercise in frustration.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Looks like it’s completely intentional, because having the shoes covering those toes sticking out at the sides would look extremely goofy and clunky. It keeps the shoes streamlined.

Although if it really bothers a ton of people, the texture could be altered to make it look like there’s leather wrapped around those toes. Because while keeping them uncovered does look “cleaner,” what’s the point in wearing shoes if your toes are hanging out exposed anyway, and there are holes for them in your shoes that would let dirt in?

Male Sylvari Engineer.

This just started happening today, and I have no idea what’s causing it. It only happens in the hero panel, and it doesn’t seem to be caused by my armour itself because it happens in town clothes, too.
Something pops out through my eye sockets, seemingly my eyes? The eyes are normally glowing pink and these look dark red, though, but I suppose it could be them without the glow effect. They stick out through my eyelids, and don’t track properly with my head, so they sort of swing in and out of the sockets as my head turns. It also causes issues with the top of my boots and my hat. It doesn’t happen in the game itself.

Armour:
Ravaging Pirate Hat of Flame Legion – Level 51
Strong Swindler Pauldrons of the Magi – Level 51 (hidden in the caps)
Leather Vigil Chestpiece of Divinity – Level 51
Ravaging Swindler Gloves of the Valkyrie – Level 54
Rawhide Leggings – Level 48
Ravaging Pirate Boots of Melandru – Level 45

I got the pirate hat from the Shatterer loot chest. I can’t remember where the rest came from.

2. My male Asura’s eyes don’t reflect light the same. The left eye looks correct, the right eye doesn’t shine like it did in character creation. The iris size is modified. Also, his eyelashes are very long and you can see through them to the iris, and they clip through his cheeks when he blinks. It looks terrible.

3. Big seam where the pattern on the back of my Sylvari’s neck meets his head.

4. Big gap between my Charr’s belly and pants when his top is off. The pants are simply called “leather leggings.”

“The color of the lips should also be a separate option – the darker skin you choose, the redder they get. It is very, very off-putting.”

This. I remade my GW1 Prophs Elementalist who has the darkest skintone option in that game. GW2s darkest skintone matches perfectly.. Except now his lips are bright peach/red. It looks horrible, like he’s wearing lipstick. All the dark skins have lips like that, it’s just awful, especially on a male character.

And my Charr’s face texture is blurry with a huge seam on the chin that makes half of his chin stark white while the rest is textured greyish. His base color is white, I’m not sure if it’s visible in the other colors or with a different head model. It can easily be seen from a distance.

I don’t care for the perfection, either. I actually prefer a bit of ugliness, it gives the face more personality. As it is, the humans and female norn look like barbie and ken dolls.

I do love this game a lot, but I really don’t care for some of the character appearance options at all. I’d kill for more hair color and styles for all races, too. And more sliders with a bit more extremes. It seems like I can never pull them quite far enough for the looks I want..

It really sounds like an odd JFK impersonation. I don’t know if it’s some other character’s sound file, or if it actually is a recording of the male Sylvari voice actor that just came out sounding off.

Earlier today, he also said “you ready?” in an entirely different voice, with a generic American accent. I’ve heard it before on male human NPCs, it sounds a little similar to Crispin Freeman and therefore definitely is not the male Sylvari voice, the pitch and accent are just completely off.

Personal Story Bug - Bad Blood

Egon Vidar.9125

Character Information
Race: Sylvari
Class: Engineer
Level: 34 at the time, I think.
Server: Tarnished Coast

Quest Information
Type: Personal Story.
Name: Bad Blood
Level: 33
Objective: Defeat the tomb raiders.

I broke this story quest last night. I came across Steag Frostbeard and Havram Girthbinder standing in a secluded area. From a distance, I began shooting Havram with my rifle. He didn’t react at all, but took damage, which was strange. To see if I could, I stood there and shot him until he died, and he never reacted to being shot. I started doing the same with Steag, wanting to see if I could do it again. Same thing happened, but I didn’t kill him from far away. I ran down into the room he was in and began to attack him up close, but he didn’t retaliate, he only stood there until he died.

It didn’t really dawn on me that these weren’t run of the mill enemies until the cut scene with Magister Sieran began.
“Character Name: Did you see what happened when the blade cut his friend? it turned that norn into a monster.
Magister Sieran: I saw! That looked like dragon corruption to me. I guess the Sanguinary Blade really is made of dragon’s blood. Gixx was right.”

So I killed them before the event could take place. I don’t know if they were supposed to be invulnerable before the transformation; if so, it didn’t take effect.

I really don’t think this is actually due to the quest itself, but whatever it is, it’s capable of busting it. I was using a rifle at the time, I’m going to try to repeat it to see if it happens in other places.
