i’ve been roaming consistently, averaging about 25 hours a week for the past 4 months = 400+ hours of roaming.
I can tell you with a very strong certainty that the best roaming armor set is not full rabid or full dire or a mix of rabid and dire.
In fact, the best is going heavy on carrion, with a mix of a couple of dire/rabid.
going only dire/rabid or a mix of both will put you at a massive disadvantage against anti-condi build.
Carrion on the other hand gives you that power needed to handle anti-condi builds.
Trust me. Try carrion and you’ll see you can handle a great variety of builds that you will encounter when you roam.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
thanks for the insights.
personally I gave your build a try, slightly modified, solo roaming. i dont have a group.
here are my thoughts on the pros and cons, not sure if you agree =)
pros:
1) great mobility. I can outrun even a warrior/thief!
point in case, a group of pugs, including a warrior chased me up and down the south island and on the third trip around he just stood there and gave up.
2) unpredictability. with good use of the surrounding terrain as you have shown in your video, all the teleporting around can give you valuable breathing room to heal or reset your skills.
3) good synergy with the traits. going spectral traits with spectral skills is a great way of remaining tanky for a long time while dishing out decent damage.
Cons:
1) the trait synergy restricts the swapping of utility skills when facing different opponents because when you do swap, you end up having one useless or less effective trait.
2) full condi will definitely suffer against an anti condi build, regardless of build.
3) the lack of any form of boon removals means that if you fight headlong against a boon stacking opponent, you are going to be at a bad disadvantage. although as in your post, you kite until their boon/stability run out…
4) terrible build for fighting thieves if you ask me…the only thing that is going to really hurt the thief is plague form, but the thief must be dumb enough to stay in your plague circle…
Verdict: I can see the effectiveness of this mobility build for group fights because chances are, the enemy will want to take you out first and with your immense mobility, it won’t be easy for them. But it is more a drawback than a boon for solo fights. Losing 2 utility skills to mobility and having traits centered around spectral makes it too restrictive for the variety of opponents you will face.
I am currently running this build. modified off Ascii’s build. a balance of power and condi, carrion + dire + rabid + berserker. Utility skills are not restricted by the traits, very versatile. can take on most enemies.
give it a try for solo roaming =) bad thing is if you run into a zerg you can’t run =D
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRQQNArYWjc0Ubb5NO2wfbCchSqeA6FIAi2o/gJYEA-w
Basically the utility skills in place are very useful in every type of fights. The 2 skills below, can be used in just about any fight against any build to give you a strong advantage.
spectral armor = stun break + protection + DS regaining
signet of spite = instant loading of condis on your opponent
The only skill that I change depending on my opponent is the corrupt boon slot.
- If i am clearing camps, and there is a point I can stack the npcs on, I change it to spectral wall.
- If there is no good point that I can stack the npcs on, I use epidemic.
- If I am fighting a warrior/guardian/ele, I use corrupt boon.
- If i am fighting a thief/mesmer/necro, I use spectral wall or well of power.
- sometimes through the first fight, especially if i lose, and i notice the enemy is full condi, i use plague signet then go and hunt them again for a rematch…works like a charm against them =D

that CD can’t hold their own against YB and DR tells me that CD is not ready for gold.

watch this and tell me again that necros are not mobile
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
since you are a pure condi build with little to no boon removals, do you have trouble fighting
1) anti-condi builds like diamond skin ele
2) stability heavy builds like ele, guardian, warrior
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
with my current build, i rarely lose a 1v1 fight.
and when I do, mostly its because I was really tired and not concentrating.
I only find myself struggling against some really good thieves. but that is also because my playstyle and skills are not up there yet. not because the necro is weak.

(in terms of solo roaming and 1v1 in WvW)
Best solo roaming class after the changes in WvW?
AND
Which class received the most buff for solo roaming in WvW? (need not make them the strongest, but made them a lot stronger than before)
FOR ME
Best solo roaming = necromancer
Reason: if built and played right, there are very few classes/builds out there that can compete.
Most buffed class = ranger
Reason: their dps just got buffed insanely
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
I can’t find any reason to complain.
We are already so OP.

nicely done! great utility utilization with your wurm and spectral recall

As soon as I meet a thief that won’t use his stealth until I have full life force, I will continue to kill pve mobs in order to have full LF when I enter a duel. If others want to neuter themselves voluntarily so as to promote a “fair” fight then so be it.
As for me, I’m in it to win it, and bringing a dull knife to a gun fight don’t bode to well for the guy with the knife. And if the fellow I am about to face requests I lose some LF, I just move on.
well said
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
i found their request particularly stupid because they were at full guard stacks and i had none. and after they lost they claimed i cheated with full LF but they had no eyes to see that they had 5 stacks of power and vit from the wvw guard stacks while i had none.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
but why cap a starting LF at 50% or 33% or 10% or 0%?
LF IS OUR NECRO SKILL. why do we have to handicap ourselves?
Why dont guardians set all their virtues on cooldown before the start of a duel?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
So yesterday I was duelling ppl in a guild from another server
Fought 2 warriors and 1 guardian. Won all 3 duels 1v1.
and they started whispering me to drain all my lifeforce/deathshroud before dueling. calling me nasty names like coward etc for not daring to fight without my lifeforce
I refused to drain because to me lifeforce/deathshroud is part of a necro’s skill set and asking me to start without it is like asking me to fight handicap.
To me its almost like asking a guardian to fight without using his virtues or a thief to fight without using his steal skill. it was illogical to say the least.
But that guild was very insistent that a fair duel means that a necro should not have any lifeforce at the start of the duel.
I am kinda new to the duelling scene so I thought I would check on the forums if a necro should start a duel with zero lifeforce to be fair to the opponent thanks.

9/10 for hausuarier. not a fan of that mask myself so -1 =p
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
nothing against you OP, great video. I learned a lot.
but just wondering why practically every video i watched is about ppl winning. I have not watched a video where ppl actually posted themselves losing and what can be learned from it for a long time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
hey prothorin, i run full dire set myself, including the trinkets/accessories/amulets.
entirely full dire.
I have not played long myself (about 5 months now) but I play often, 30+ hours a week.
I suggest not going your 6/4/0/0/4 traits. the first line is mostly for power builds if I am not wrong. not that suitable for condition builds like ours.
full dire = very tanky and very dependent on slowly wearing down your opponents with bleed.
best weapon of choice is scepter/dagger + staff or scepter/warhorn + staff.
the easiest way to learn is to watch videos/twitch(live stream) of other necro players to see their skill rotation etc. but ultimately, will depend on you experiencing the fights and learning from them yourself.
importantly, you will also want to know what the other classes can do so you know how to counter them ( i dont know the other classes very well myself, still learning)
but a trait set you can run for full dire build is 0/6(II,IX,XI)/2(V)/0/6(IV,X,XI) or 0/6(II,IX,XI)/4(V,VIII)/0/4(IV,X)
in 1v1, condi food also very important, you will prob want to buy koi cakes and quality or above tuning crystals.
i’m not sure what utility/elite skill you are running, but going corrupt boon, spectral wall and spectral walk has been working decently for me. along with plague form(elite). consume conditions(healing)
plague form gives you a massive hp/armor boost and gives you stability. very important for stomping downed opponents when outnumbered.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
this is for solo roaming necros in wvw.
Full condi builds.
are the traits hemopholia(longer bleed duration) and lingering curse (longer scepter durations) important?
I have watched many nec videos and most of them do not run the above 2 traits. they go weakening shroud(bleed upon DS) and path of corruption(dark path remove 2 boon).
but they are not full condi builds. they have a mixture of power and/or crit.
so I was wondering, for the other full condi necros out there, which trait for those 2 slots do you choose?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
anyone knows any link i can watch? thanks!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
i noticed a few posts saying to do it stomp then shroud.
my own experience is that it works only if you shroud first then stomp quickly.
for me its:
shroud then stomp
not stomp then shroud.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
i roam around solo a lot so knowing how to shroud stomp in 1v1 or 1v2 situations quite important to me =D
because sometimes plague is on CD and you need another stability or HP buffer to stomp the enemy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
i ran full dire with dolyak runes for more survivability. traited max lifeforce line with stability and full Vitality line and healing. did not survive well.
necros prob cant be good survivalists.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
i tried and found that you can do it by pressing both very quickly one after another, shroud first then stomp. it takes a sec for shroud to activate after you press it so if you press stomp quickly after shroud u can shroud stomp
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
do u shroud first then stomp or stomp first then shroud?
i been trying both but cant do it
i been seeing very recent videos where necros do it =/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
hello all i am thinking of making a necro commander but not too sure what skills/traits/weapons to use and what armor and runes to use
any suggestions appreciated
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
Having watched Incomingray’s video on a healer guardian with cleric/magi gear, i must say that cleric guardians are OP!!
Also there are so few guardians who use tome of courage!! its so OP the final full heal!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
as title, i am a totally new guardian about to reach 80, no real experience fighting, just running around blind zerging and dying 80% of the time.
when i reach 80 i would like to build the ultimate guardian survivor for big zerg fights.
I dont need to tag well, i just need to be as unkillable as possible. will a healing build be better or a high armor build? or a high vitality build? HELP!
what traits should i go? what utility skills should i use? what weapons should i hold? what armor should i wear? what runes should I use? what sigils should i equip?
THANKS!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
ds 5 = death shroud the binding chain? didnt know it latches on invis too XD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
i just found out that with warhorn’s locust swarm and spectral walk, with 4 points in the trait that increases your boon duration, you have permanent increase MS of 33%!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
thanks for the tips. problem for me is I guess i have only ever played necro and dont really understand all the other classes.
Also I running with scepter/dagger and axe/warhorn. with no aoe marks or wells or anything like that =/ so I got nothing to stand on XD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
I’m referring to those thief that go invis very often when they fight.
invis in and out in and out I can’t even get a good sustained lock on them for my condi to build =s
and they just burst me down so easily =(
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
hmm is the utility afforded by the staff really worth the downtime it takes to swap back to the scepter?
I often find the swapping cooldown ridiculously long and i can die or get brought down very quickly during that period while not inflicting any real damage to my opponent using the staff
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
thanks for the posts. I was wondering as I had been running scepter/dagger + staff and it almost feels to me like the staff is useless for 1v1 or 1v2 as my power is low, my crit is low.
I end up rarely using my staff unless it is against invis classes like thief when they stealth and i start throwing out marks on the ground.
I tried running with scepter/dagger + axe/warhorn yesterday like HardRider and i must say its potential to win a 1v1 or 1v2 feels much better.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
hello all, just wondering what is the most effective weapon combination for solo roaming in wvw?
its more for 1vs2 or 1vs1 situations.
what weapon combination would be best?
I am currently using scepter/dagger + staff (alt)
but just wondering if anyone can advise a better combination?
Thanks.
scepter is a must for me so if anyone can advise what weapons to use along with scepter on offhand and alternate swap, will be great thanks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
my guess is pyre dye.
but seriously, the guy in the image could use a better stylist. alot of his dye and clothing is not well matched.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
i vote compact disc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
the video was an eye opener. well played.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
oooo okay thanks. just wondering because there isn’t anything in the tooltip that says increase toughness and HP but it just felt like I suddenly became a lot tankier.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
I just started trying out our elite skill plague where we transform into the poison cloud and i seem to be taking less damage while in that form in WvW.
The enemy zerg has to hammer me a long time to drop my health to zero.
is this a bug or do we actually take less damage while in the cloud form?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
full 6 dolyak runes. will combination with earth be better?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsby6rYkxS8
thx for pointing out the point on vulnerability. i’m still new, only 3 mths in the game so i had no idea vulnerability doesnt work for condi dmg!
I’ll have to see how to change it now XD
and let me know how the build works for you! =)

Dear fellow necromancers,
A short introduction to myself, I am newly inducted into the Asuran Necromantic Society and have started roaming the lands for barely 3 months. I hail from the land of Crystal Desert and have come to share and learn with all of you.
I would like to put forth here a build that has worked wonders for me and hopefully through discussions with you all, can be fine-tuned and made even better.
This build is centered around the concept of attrition-based fighting style and I have named it Spectral Shroud Skills (SSS). It is a rotation of Death Shroud skills to Spectral skills which refills your life force fast enough for you to rotate back to Death Shroud skill again, while loading your opponent/s with condition damage (bleed). It is for WvW use.
Weapon mainhand : Scepter (Sigil of Agony)increase bleed
Weapon offhand : Focus (Sigil of Bursting)increase condi dmg
Weapon swap : Staff (Sigil of Corruption & Fragility)condi dmg stack & vulnerability
Healing : Consume Conditions
Utility 1 : Spectral Armor
Utility 2 : Spectral Grasp
Utility 3 : Spectral Walk
Elite : Summon Flesh Golem
Item stats focus : Condition Damage (main) Toughness (sub) Vitality (sub)
Full Dire Armor Set with Dolyak Runes Set
Max buff : 3k~ Armor, 30k~ HP, 20k~ Life Force, 1.5k~ Condition Damage
Skill Traits :
6 to Curses : II – increase bleed duration, X – spectral skills increase duration and grant lifeforce, XI – conditions by scepter increased duration.
2 to Death Magic : II – gain retaliation heal skill used.
6 to Soul Reaping : III – reduce recharge on deathshroud skill, IV – reduces recharge on spectral skills, XI – gain stability when deathshroud entered.
Concept behind the build:
Having Life Force is like having an extra HP bar and that gives a necromancer immense survivability, allowing him/her to engage in an attrition-based fighting style where you have time to load your opponents with bleed damage and out-last him in a fight.
Imagine this, how about having two Life Force bars? or three? or more? the potential is mind boggling. How do we go about doing this? Spectral skills does a great job refilling your Life Force. Not to mention their very useful utility effects in WvW. Protection, speed boost, catching, ‘teleporting’, you have it all in these three skills to use offensively or defensively. Very flexible.
With frequent use of Death Shroud, you will want faster cooldowns on your shroud skills which is where the traits come in. you also want the stability buff because you don’t want any of your shroud skills to get interrupted as they have a really long cooldown.
This build does not have many options removing conditions from yourself, which is where the healing consume conditions come in. Flesh Golem was chosen for the elite skill despite the minions mechanics having a bit of trouble as there was no better alternative. When the golem does attack, he cripples, and charges.
Engaging in zerg vs zerg fights, you have great tankiness to survive and the staff provides you with great aoe tagging options apart from your Deathshroud skills which you can rotate to very often with this build.
If you do find yourself in small party fights or even 1vs1 situations, you can handle yourself very well. Even if you do end up losing, know that you held up the enemy for a long while =D you don’t die to burst damage.
Using bleed as your main damage dealer which is your scepter’s Auto Attack! 20% bleed duration from sigil, another 20% + 33% from your traits, gives you a very long bleed duration that just eats and eats into your opponents while they try in vain to take you down =D
Using your Focus’ skills to stack vulnerability on your foes and to chill and debuff them, perfect for keeping them weak and far away from you!
I’ve only been running with this build for 3 days and I can already feel its potential. I have found myself in three 1vs1 fights so far, surprisely all against thieves. Maybe because their class tend to roam more alone? I’ve not gone 1vs1 against any other class though so I can’t say that this build will work against others. But thieves…or at least the three I met…don’t have an easy time against this build XD
I have won two and drew one. Drew as in the thief cloaked and ran off after we traded blows for a long while. I believe I would have won in the end if he continued to stay though. As I did against the other two thieves who stayed…and died =D
For those who love tankiness and attrition-condi dmg fighting like I do, please give my build a try and let me know how it goes for you in WvW!
Also looking forward to critical responses so that the build can be better tuned =D
Lastly, see you guys on the battlefield.
