I heard some horror-stories that the Forge didn’t alway return the infused Light of Dwanya and you’d get some random item returned instead of Light of Dwanya (infused) thought it was confirmed fixed. I’d just like to know if anyone knows if it are just horror stories or still an actual problem. I’d like to infuse my Light of Dwanya and Chaos of Lyssa asap. ^^

Thank you in advance.

Thief or warrior

Warrior is pretty good at everything it does without being too complicated or difficult to play decent. Roaming you can run a variety of builds from Condition to Power builds depending on your liking. The mobility is good, but you will most likely focus 1 of your weaponsets to achieve this. (Sword/Warhorn ftw) For zerg you can AoE CC amazingly well with Hammer whilst having decent survivability. With shouts you offer some support to your team. For PvE you’ll mainly support by buffing your teams damage (Banners, some Might/Fury or even 20-25 Might at the cost of your own DPS (Phalanx Strenght trait))

Thief is great at roaming, high burst and likely the best escape mechanics in game, meaning you can escape from a lost fight and re-engage when you’re recovered. They also have access to multiple shadowsteps/returns for any mobility-needs. For zergs they don’t offer a lot that other classes can’t offer either better, or with more survivability. In PvE they mainly play Sw/P on trash (perma blinds) and D/D for bosses (the highest dps) with some support possibilities through a single conditioncleanse/endurance restore and Smoke Screen (Anti-Projectile, more Blind) and ofcourse for allowing the team to Stealth certain bits. (E.g. Underground Facility/Uncatagorized) The downside of this is that you’re squishy, especially if you compare it to a Warrior, so it might not be as enjoyable if you think you’ll struggle staying alive.

Tl;DR
I’d personally recommend you to roll Warrior first. Warriors are generally well-beloved in any aspect of the game by PuGs (and organized groups,) whether it’s a Dungeon/Fractal group or a WvW zerg/roaming Party. For this reason (assuming you enjoy playing them) they’re great to have at 80, even if it’s just to fall back on when you struggle finding a group. It’s also an amazing class for learning the robes of more difficult content.

Thieves, though not the most unbeloved class, can recieve some hate/dislike and are also not something you want to have more than 1 in your group. I know this shouldn’t be a reason to not roll a class, but you’ve already expressed you’d roll the other class sooner or later.

Combat Log differs from Screen information?

Esmee.1067

Today I decided to semi-afk some world bosses so took out a Greatsword (Mesmer) and the damage always seems to differ from my combatlog. Anyone know why? Is the combat log accurate?

I know sometimes the screen damage seems decieving because they override eachother and look like 1 hit, but that’s not the case here either. I never see this problem with my usual weapons (Sword/Sword + Sword/Focus with Scepter for range.)

Thank you in advance for satisfying my curiousity.

I’d just sell them. I doubt they’ll ever get any additional uses, like many people mentioned, they’re not worth much more than their merch value considering how easy it is to get them and Pristine Relics are already in place so you can get your rings withour RNG (luckily, it’s been 124 rings before I got my very first Berserker Ring with luck.) At the most keep 1 or 2 of each in case you want to gear up alts/try a new builds. (Or just keep your Pristine Relics for that reason if you’re short on storage space.)

Cleaning out the bank

1. Essence of Luck: Any reason not to just consume these immediately upon acquire? They are Artificer components, but can only be converted to rarer Essences (for the same amount of Luck).
2. Flask/Jug/etc of Karma: Same thing: any reason not to just chug these all down now?
3. Old event items: Tricolor Keys, Aetherkeys, Continue Coins, Blade Shards. Should I just destroy these?
4a. Piles of Bloodstone Dust: Apparently, I filled up my collectibles and now have another 2 full stacks in my bank. It’s pink and Account Bound, but will I ever need that much?
4b. Empyreal Fragments: Same as dust above.
5. Agony Infusions. Will I need these for later content? Where is Agony encountered?
6. Dwarven Keys: I think these are only needed for one specific event. Probably not worth the bank slot, right?

IMO:
1. Use them, it will permanently increase your Magic Find and have no other uses (except maybe monthly refinement/crafter)
2. Use them, i\t’s accountbound, no longer is affected by boosters (anyone able to confirm?) and takes no space in a Wallet.
3. Aetherkeys are useable in TA Aetherblade paths after you’ve finished, so either use them or destroy them (1 key is about 1 silver to make anyway) Blade Shards, use them for the backpiece if you like them, otherwise destroy them. The rest might return so if you can spare the space, go for it, if not, don’t bother.
4. Ascended Materials, 500/each per weapon, 200/per armor except chest, 500 for the chest. Decide which Ascended Weapons/Armorpieces you’d like to make, refine those, throw away left-overs. If you’re drowning in both it likely means you can easily acquire them if you need any more.
5. Agony Infusions are only for Fractals so Agony deal only 1% per tick, depending on Fractal level you need more and more Agony Resistance (starting with 0 up to ~70’ish) If you’re interested in the content, hold on to them, if not, delete them. (They are rather easy to get by aswell, 75 Fractal Relics for a Versitile +5 and each chest drops 1-3 +1 infusions for infused slots which can be refined for +2 +3 +4 etc etc.)
6. Haven’t heard of them.

How important is Precision for Condi builds?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Like people already mentioned, it’s about the on-crit procs most condition builds have. For Necromancer this is the minor trait Barbed Precision that inflicts bleeding on critical hits, more bleeds = more damage. It’s one of our best ways to apply bleed, which is a very vital condition as it stacks in intensity.

Another thing is, ‘what else’ Power isn’t going to help your build much since your direct damage is very low and unless there’s some serious cleansing going on, it won’t outdamage the extra bleeds you could land and as Necromancer you’re already blessed with high Vitality, Plague Form and Death Shroud, do you really need any more? If the answer is yes, mix in some Dire, if no, keep your Rabid. Both are, in my opinion, viable.

I personally only play Power in zergs and don’t roam with a Necromancer, but in PvP I tried out both Rabid and Dire and Dire is severely lacking the bleeds (can’t have enough with all the cleansing around!)

cheapest way 2craft accended weapons

Esmee.1067

Assuming I’m not too late/future reference:
Step 1: 400-500 on your craft
1. Open your browser
2. Go to http://www.gw2spidy.com
3. Go to Crafting and pick your craft (top left corner)
4. Fill Rating: 400 – 400 and tick the box “Hide recipes that require an unlock:”
5. Press Filter
6. Look at the multiple pieces you can make for a profit or a minimal loss.
7. Click each link for a detailed page on each required component and their materials.
8. Place your buyorders on as many pieces you need (~20 with booster, less if you refine Ascended Materials (highly recommend) for 450-475.)
9. Put all pieces together in the discovery tab
10. Resell all your results and wait a few days to weeks for everything to sell.

(This is, in my opinion, the way to do it since you get less loss than you do using gw2crafts.net (which is amazing for 0-400, but on 400-500 I feel the few minutes more this takes, gets made up for by the gold you save.) Though gw2crafts.net will definitly get you there aswell and you can likely farm some champs to gain back the gold. In short, both wonderful websites.)

Step 2:
For each piece of armor you’d be best of searching it piece by piece. Prices range between 40g to 120g a piece, light armor chest and leggings being the most expensive and medium gloves, boots and headpiece the cheapest. I’d wiki any pieces you might be unsure where to get since some can be a bit tricky to figure out at first. Example in Randomguys post.

Pretty much a more detailed explaination of Randomguys post in general.

For PvE I’d run Meta if you’re unsure what fits your playstyle yet, for which the traits are:
6 Deadly Arts. VI, IX, XIII
6 Critical Strikes. III, VI, XI
2 Trickery. IV
If you’d like a guide: DnT Brazil’s guide

For PvP I’d more go in the lines of:
2 Deadly Arts III
6 Critical Strikes III, VI, XI
6 Trickery V, VII, XII
It provides the needed burst, along with boonremoval, selfbuffing and Daze, though I run this set-up with D/P for Blinds. For WvW I’d likely run something similar for roaming and for zergs I’d just not bring D/D or Thief in general, so I can’t comment on that.

(PS: If it’s 400 Weaponsmith instead of 500 and you don’t intend to use the original Engineer, I’d likely delete it.)

For runes (armor) scholer’s are the best, ogre and pack are good too, so are strength but they’re not worth the price.

strength is good for some classes, and for solo or if you PUG a lot it is best. the warior meta is 6/6/0/2/0 OR either 6/4/0/4/0 or 0/6/0/6/2 if you trust the dps of your group (usually its no, but I just run it for the lolz). Pure GS or axe, but not both.

Phalanx Strenght is about your groups might-stacking potentional rather than their personal dps. Even in the most horrid groups (in which I’m going to assume 3-6 external Might) popping it up to 20-25 for your whole team is near impossible to outdps on your own unless people press /dance instead of 1. In a group with good DPS you will generally sit at high Mightstacks anyway unless you’re running with Necromancers and Mesmers only.

As for the OP, I’d like to redirect you to DnT Nike’s guide, it’s elaborate, but I think it will answer all your questions that might be left unanswered.

Most helpful advice I can give you is to make sure you don’t interrupt your Axe autoattackchain / 100b (depending if you prefer pure Axe or pure Greatsword) and learn to stay alive (Warrior is relatively forgiving, so it should be alright) and run a (Strenght/Discipline) Banner and you will make plenty of teams happy to have you! Don’t worry about “oh but someone says he hit that much higher!” and be the best you can be.

Certain items can’t be salvaged, sadly I’m not aware of how you can recognize those items, if you can at all.

I generally start with 1 buyorder, see if it can salvage, take a note and then increase the quantity of your buyorders. Within no time you’ll have plenty of items written down that can be salvaged for a profit.

Hopefully if there is a way of recognizing which ones can and can’t be salvaged and someone else will share it.

Trading Posts and Dungeons are still one of the best ways. 40-50g per Dungeon Tour which can last between 2-3h or 4-6h depending on whether you PuG or have a dungeon orientated guild. Trading post is all about how good you are at it.

Living Story often has some farmable options aswell, currently Boss Blitz like randomguy mentioned. If you get a gold-pavilion it’s ~10 champ bags in ~7 minutes, takes about 3 minutes to go again once organized, few Gauntlet Tickets (which I’d, in between Blitz, use to farm some Gambits which has a rare chance for Chaos of Lyssa, beats standing around doing nothing) and some Tokens which can be traded for various goodies, or simply T6 Materials.

I personally find World Bosses hardly worth it lately. You can do 1 per 15 minutes since the Megaserver introduction and yield 1 Rare/Exotic (sometimes 2) and a chest, you might aswell do a Dungeonpath in that time. It’s not longer server hopping and tag any event you can last minute. If interested, the new schedule Same with Node-farms, Megaservers have made them less easy/profitable, now the map refreshes a lot more or you get into a different megaserver than before, meaning you have to refind the locations.

Besides that I actually don’t really know any efficient ways, though I’m sure somewhere out there, there’s still a champfarm.

how much gold does it to take level tailoring

in Crafting

Esmee.1067

for 300-400 I’d use Arzo’s link (gw2crafts.net) because the investment isn’t too considerable.

For 400-500 I prefer pulling out gw2spidey -> go to Crafting -> Tailor -> fill the Rating fields 400-400 -> check “hide recipies that require unlock” -> Pick 12-20 (12 if you refine materials needed for the armor to get 450-475, 20 if you don’t) recipe’s from the top of the list (higher in the list, the more profit, avoid big starter investments such as Sentinels if preferred) -> Check their pages for materials -> place buy-orders -> pick up your materials and start crafting -> wait a few days/weeks for the items to sell to make all your gold back.

Just made yourself a tiny profit getting your craft from 400 to 500 instead of a ~50g loss it’s currently at on gw2crafts.net (ps: I find it an amazing website, but I prefer doing the 10-30 minutes of research and highly recommend it unless you can make 50g+ in the time it costs you to do the research.) After leveling all crafts it cost me ~20g total, which isn’t too bad at all (the armorcrafts are capable of making a profit, weaponcrafts usually make a little loss.)

If you search the exact item on gw2spidey (e.g. Zojja’s Doublet) you can see the accurate price. Currently the chest and leggings are ~100g, where-as the other pieces are 60-70g. This does not include Karma, Skillpoints, Bloodstone, Dragonite and Emphereal Fragments as they don’t carry a Trading Post Price.

Attachment is an example of the spidey-page that should pop-up. It changes often since gw2spidey is connected to the ingame tradingpost.

Request: Legendary Guide

in Crafting

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Hum keeps notices one mistake. NEVER GET THE PRECURSOR LAST :P. Everyone I know of that quit their legendary stopped because of that. Save for your precursor first. Do not trust the mystic forge unless you are making hundreds of gold a week. Everything else you get get slowly but their is no way around the precursor unless you are lucky. Save for precursor, gift of mastery, gift of fortune, then gift of x legendary. In that order. Notice that the price of precursor is always rising. A year ago precursor were 200-500g now 300-1500g :P.

There’s always inflation in a game, which is caused by people being able to make more money, so last year it might have costs you 3 months to make 500g, where-as now it takes you 3 months to make 1500g. Since the Wardrope patch the precursors also went up in price and I wouldn’t be surprised if they slowly went down again after the hype has settled a bit. And guess what, inflation happens to all the materials you have to buy (e.g. most T6 materials) and how many people facepalmed farming jumping puzzles for badges when they introduced EotM? There’s always a risk involved when new things can get introduced, which hopefully in gw2 is still happening, be it a better gold-farm causing inflation, easier badges/karma farm or even the precursor scavenger hunt people are hoping for.

It’s a fact that whilst obtaining any of the other needed components (unless you TP-flip day in, day out,) your precursor can drop, the chance is incredibly small, (hell, I never used to count on it happening) but it does happen and then it’s simply a setback of 100g+ (the TP fee) for what? Holding a weapon in your storage/inventory until you can finally craft your Legendary? So unless you adore the precursor skin and plan on using it until the Legendary and that gives you joy, it’s not a wise investment. So you’ve definitly not convinced me it’s a ‘mistake’

Those who ‘quit’ just because they suddently felt a Precursor was too expensive obviously underestimated the full cost and effort of a Legendary. Whether they got it straight away or later, they’re paying for that Precursor one way or another, just like any other component, whether you do it straight away or later, you’re doing the work. Work only goes wasted if you obtain X material whilst farming Y. For example you farmed all your Karma, suddently realise you need Badges of Honor and either way, you’ll get Karma whilst getting those Badges, meaning you could have spend less time farming Karma. The precursor is simply in that list since, once again, it can drop, but the chance is simply minimal. For that reason I don’t see an issue either way, my list was simply made to be as efficient as possible.

It does bring out a very important thing; never combine the gifts that use trade-able items, if you give up, atleast you can sell the items instead of sitting on accountbound gifts (though, let’s just not give up)

Eternity, sell or use?

in Crafting

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

It’s up to you to decide what you find worth it.

Basicly you’ll have Twilight and Sunrise to make any Greatsword Legendary (cosmetic-wise) so Eternity might not be worth it to some people, they’d rather sell it and be halfway (or more) there for Bifrost/Incinerator, but some absolutely love the look of Eternity and thus would find it worth the ~4000g for the skin. No-one can decide that for you.

Though if you want to know what I’d do: I personally don’t like Eternity (the footsteps don’t match the weapon and it looks a bit toxic, neither would I be able to match my armor with the daytime and nighttime version) so I’d sell it and more or less be able to afford anything I need for Bifrost and well Bolt, since I don’t like the Incinerator at all. ^^ Picky picky.

Goodluck deciding!

Esmee.1067

You get 7 levels for 1-400 which is reasonable affordably (imo) For prices check out: http://www.gw2crafts.net/total.html

The last 3 levels per craft (except for cooking and jewelry) are in the 400-500 area, which either costs you a lot of gold, or quite some research or patience. Even then you’d only get to 74.

Alternatives are:
Boss Blitz seems to give a lot of experience, I’ve yet to take a lower level, but Stars information seems accurate. So I’d recommend looking at that, the rewards are pretty good aswell gold-wise. You do have to get into a Gold Pavillion.

Another well-beloved option is the WvW-map EotM, which is (especially for Green servers) a Champ/Karma/Experience train. Usually ~4 levels per hour, depending on whether the keeps are defended (usually not.) I usually recommend this to friends (Boss Blitz is a living story so won’t be around forever) since you get a decent amount of Karma, Champbags (and other loot) Experience and Badges which can trade for an Exotic set of Armor, always helpful for a fresh 80.

Just to clarify….Ascended gear is in NO WAY NEEDED (sans high level Fractals…..so that WAY may actually have a valid Manifesto complaint).

Even more reason Dragonite Ore should also drop in Fractals, or an exchange-rate between either their Bloodstone and Emphereal counterpart or Fractal Relics, making it an indirect drop.

Even if it’s 30 Dragonite per end-Fractal (Molton Duo, Mai Trin, Solid Ocean,) it’d take 50 Fractals for just the armor, neither would it make it the best place to farm, but it’s allow the only group in this game that actually needs the gear, be able to get it by playing the game the way they want to. If people want to speed it up, they’d still be drawn to more efficient ways like a combination of EotM/WvW/World Bosses.

Critical: Unresponsive Skill Bar

Esmee.1067

In addition to equipping a toy as mentioned above, another common technique for fixing this is to jump off a high enough cliff such that your character faceplants. It might also get fixed if an enemy CCs you. Dying will also tend to fix it, though that is a bit more of an extreme way of fixing it. If you have any WvW siege items on hand, you can also try equipping those and then putting them away.

The most common cause for this sort of issue is interacting with some sort of item while moving around. For instance, if you try to pick up a banner while running past it, or possibly if someone picks it up just before you do. As such, you should be mindful about how much you spam the interact key to perform AoE looting in order to minimize the occurrence of this, or just be careful that you’re not auto running when trying to pick up things like banners, other bundles, or just using environmental objects.

Unfortunately it’s been a problem for quite awhile, but they haven’t been able to fix this as of yet.

Useful advice, time to buy a toy or hold siegeweapons on all my toons.

1. Killed Berserker first, in melee.
2. Didn’t jump at all, but used Obsidian Flesh to avoid getting downed in general.
3. He died within seconds as per usual.

I didn’t deserve the achievement for as far as I know, so maybe it’s still buggy. Or maybe immunity counts or Berserker didn’t even get to his shockwaves. A teammate didn’t get it I believe. Kind of a slap in the face after the many many many pug-fractals where you ranged him and jumped over every single shockwave on a slow slow kill.

I also feel Dragonite has become an issue, realisticly you can get ~15-45 per hour or so from World Bosses because so many of the bosses give around 5 Dragonite and the ones that give 15-25 aren’t even always that do-able unless you know when your server organizes them or you go to the map quite a while beforehand. Before the Megaserver update I could often get a stack/hour if I really wanted to, having the option to farm it (like their Bloodstone and Emphereal countparts) was nice.

In WvW it depends on your World, Commander and the opposition and though it hasn’t been too bad so far for me (SFR, almost always Green in EotM) I do believe the same doesn’t go for all servers and even with a wonderful server sometimes you get loads, sometimes you get very little.

When you compare it to Bloodstone dust, which drops almost everywhere or Emphereal Fragments, which drop in low amounts but easier captures in WvW, from chests and most importantly, you can get loads from Dungeons, more than 1h of World Bosses generally and paths don’t take 1h, unless you’re really, really unlucky or can only play in the deadest of hours.

PvP is apparently (I’ve yet to try it) not too bad either, might need to start doing Regional Tracks instead of the dungeon ones. But looking at the wiki it’s far from great aswell.

For 1 toon, with 1 set, this isn’t much of a problem. But for people who want multiple sets because they enjoy more than 1 toon (and let’s face it, you do need it for Fractals since all trinkets are timegated aswell,) it’s becoming quite a grind. I’ve currently got all the time-gated materials for Medium Ascended, Light Ascended and ~5 weapons except the Laurels (getting close) but I’m only at ~3 stacks of Dragonite, trying to do Karka, Golem, Shatterer and sometimes Jormag daily, I will get there…. eventually.

Fixes I assume won’t cause too much issue:
- Add temples on a timer aswell
- Allow some conversion (e.g. 2 Empereal for 1 Dragonite and 10 Bloodstone for 1 Dragonite, what-ever seems reasonable.)
- Add Dragonite as Living Story reward, much like Tome of Knowledge and T6 crafting bags. The possibility to get a Lesser Vision Crystal as drop from one of the Scarlet fights was a good start aswell, imo.

I’d recommend, considering your budget, to do a little research leveling your craft. gw2crafts is an amazing website, how-ever it doesn’t consider the costs you can make back.

Yes it does. Go look at the page for levelling any discipline. Note the calculation at the top. Specifically the expected recovery line. It is taking the sale price of everything you craft into account.

It just doesn’t show it on the totals page.

Sure, the stuff will probably take a while to sell at that price. But if you’re talking about crafting ascended weapons, you’re in this for the long haul. You’re in no hurry for them to sell.

It doesn’t take it into it’s calculations when it comes down to finding the most economical way of crafting to 500, which is exactly what’s important if you’re on budget. It picks the cheapest way to craft to 500 then it calculates how much you can get back from selling the items that were picked. Which is the best you can expect from a program, but it’s not the cheapest way to go since it doesn’t include the sell-price in it’s calcualations.

Taking Tailor for example, there’re plenty of armors at 400 rating that aren’t perse the cheapest to craft but sell for a profit, with enough of those, I made a decent profit getting my craft to 500. Look at my attachment (the gw2spidey page updates, so I simply took a printscreen to keep the explaination accurate) you can craft almost all Dire and Cavalier gear for a profit! There’s 15 armors (Dire, Cavalier, Berserker) and another 5 Sentinel pieces (bigger investment, bigger profit, but I’d avoid those if on budget) that’s enough to get from 400-500, especially with a crafting booster and when you refine some Bloodstone, Dragonite and Emphereal Fragments or time-gated materials. End-result: ~10g profit now let’s look at gw2crafts 50g loss ouch. Same principle can be applied to any other crafting profession, however with weaponcrafts you will have to count on ~20g loss, still beats a 100g loss. You’ll also have to skim the page a bit better aswell, unless you’re confident the Corrupted and Destroyer weapons will sell, hence I took Tailor for example since almost everything in that page is viable.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but it takes me about 15 minutes to pick the recipe’s and buy all materials, then I do something else until the buyorders are filled and a few minutes to craft, so unless you can somehow make 40g in 20 minutes, it’s worth the hassle.

Maybe if you read my post and confirmed it, you wouldn’t go on 1 single line, which is indeed incorrect, it should have stated it doesn’t include the material price vs the sellprice in it’s calculations.

PS: The profit is bigger if you use buyorders (which you should always do, patience makes more money/hour than most people) but the same can be said for minimilizing the costs on gw2crafts by doing the same, so I didn’t include that.

I haven’t tested it since I haven’t infused my Dwanya backpiece yet (I just swapped other infused backpieces around since I heard it was bugged a while ago) but the Tempered Spinal Blades and coloured version give the same message “soulbound on use” but stay accountbound even after you select the stats. So maybe the same goes for LoD, worth trying if you’d mainly intend to use it on 1 character, but you are right, it’s a sloppy oversight.

Request: Legendary Guide

in Crafting

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

I’d start making a complete list of materials you need and make sure you never sell any of those when they drop for you, much like Serapheles.5409 suggested. Wikipedia luckily does it for you (Incinerator -> Show Base Ingredients) It’s overwhelming, I know, but it avoids any unneeded TP-fees and gives you less of a grindy feeling (atleast it did for me.) Molten and Destroyer Lodestones(/Cores) and t6 materials/ecto are the most important, imo. And once you get to that part of the Legendary, it will be nice to already be halfway. Also don’t convert Skillpoints into money, or Karma or any other currency unless you know you won’t need it.

The order is then up to you, how-ever I’d recommend:
1. Map Completion
2. Mystic Clovers
3. Any Karma you still need
4. Gift of Battle (Badges of Honour)
5. Start the Goldfarm
6. Gift of Baelfire (CoF p1 is easy money, so I assume you got the 500 tokens)
7. Purchase materials that are unlikely to get by at random (e.g. the food for Gift of Spark)
8. Purchase t6 materials and get Spark in a way of your liking. (Mystic Forge/buying it)
9. Skillpoints, if by some mircale, you don’t have them yet.

Map completion yields Karma and has the potentional for some Gold, t6 materials and if you’re ridicilously lucky; Spark. The Mystic Glovers can return t6 materials or Orichalcum Ingot for Gift of Steel, so once again, recommended before collecting the t6 materials/Orichalcum to avoid any unneeded TP-fees. Lastly the Gold, Materials, Skillpoints and Karmafarm go hand in hand, whether you do Dungeons, Fractals, Championtrain. Also having a chance to drop Spark, no matter how low. (A friend of mine bought his precursor first and then had it drop, that’s ~100g wasted whilst gaining nothing.)

If you’re the type that can’t follow progression and do want it by doing it all at once (sort off) I’d recommend this order:
1. Gift of Mastery (Karma, Skillpoints, Exploration and Badges)
2. Gift of Incinerator (Steel and Lodestones, Ghostpeppers, Gift of Baelfire)
3. Gift of Fortune (250 of each T6, 250+ Ecto, Karma, Skillpoints, note: Start with the Mystic Clovers!)
4. Spark

Ofcourse it’s your Legendary and you should do it the way you enjoy doing it.

For Karma I’d recommend Edge of the Mist (preferably on a level 80) because of the high amounts of events yielding good Karma, Badges and Champbags. For anything else I’d farm the gold in a method of your chosing. (World Bosses, Dungeons, Powertrading, etc.)

Esmee.1067

I’d recommend, considering your budget, to do a little research leveling your craft. gw2crafts is an amazing website, how-ever it doesn’t consider the costs you can make back. Hence I’d highly recommend pulling out gw2 Spidey
1. Go to Crafting -> Weaponsmith
2. Rating 400-400 (can be done for any rating, but 400-500 is the most expensive to level and thus most worthwhile to research cheaper methods.)
3. Pick items that sell for the least loss (or a bit of profit, but for weaponcrafts you should count on a loss) that are likely to sell (e.g. Pearl) and to be safe, a low investment (e.g. avoid Sentinel) and open their page to see the materials. Note that certain weapons (e.g. Corrupted, require a recipe and thus won’t yield as much as a discovery.) Pick different ones since discoveries give the most crafting experience and if something doesn’t sell well, you won’t be hurt as bad.
4. Sell, with a bit of patience almost anything will sell and you leveled your craft for only a few gold loss instead of 110g (out of Tailor, Leather and Armorsmith I even made a profit.)

I’d also recommend crafting 450-470’ish with time-gated refinement, considering you don’t have enough money to buy the materials anyway, you might aswell show some patience and save yourself a penny. DodgyCookies link shows exactly what’s cheaper to craft yourself and what’s cheaper to buy. (This link)

In the meanwhile you’ll be getting some gold from farming the account-bound materials, Dragonite Ore, Bloodstone Dust and Emphereal Fragments.

Surely it takes some research, but if ~10 minutes of research can save you loads of gold, it’s worth it. GW2spidey does most of the work for you, showing how much profit/loss, supply and demand and how to craft it in the most econimical way. Use wiki if you’re unsure something requires a recipe or can be discovered.

I’ve never had an issue getting a group as a non-favour of the month class, it’s just that much easier on Elementalist (or Warrior, Guard, what-ever is favour of the month according to people) why would I bother?

The key is making your own groups or atleast avoid groups that aren’t asking for something you don’t offer. Be it a certain class or anything else, whether it’s reasonable or not.

Celestial Gear for Fractals?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Celestial gear isn’t bad if you want some passive survivability. After the changes there were some calculations on the forum, which is likely still find-able somewhere comparing both it’s damage and survivability to Soldier’s gear, so you won’t be hitting hard, but neither do most PuGs in my experience. Another thing to be careful of is that some bosses (Mai Trin for example) are lured to high toughness. I’d try zerker-trinkets instead of celestial if you’re comfortable with it.

As for build I’d recommend D/F aswell, in the sticky DEKeys has an amazing guide for both Fractal Elementalists and Elementalists in general. I find her information very useful and thus recommend you go through the parts that interest you. Just remember certain tactics won’t work as well unless your whole group is zerker and/or willing to melee.

I run D/F 80% of the time in Fractals, but I understand why some people run staff. First of all Staff is relatively easy to play, you stick to 1 attunement for DPS and the rotation isn’t complicated, nor do you lose DPS if you go at range a bit which some Elementalists find very valuable. It’s DPS is higher aswell, how-ever it doesn’t come near D/F utility and thus survivability. (And any utility it has on Water/Air/Earth will drop your dps by a lot until you can swap back to Fire) Hence I’d recommend D/F with Staff on certain occasions at the most. (E.g. when people feel the need to range, e.g. Fire Shaman) or when DPS beats utility (E.g. Old Tom or Molton Duo, assuming anti-projectile is covered and you’re tactic is bursting them down.)

If you don’t want to check out DEKeys guide (which I do highly recommend) traits I run are:
D/F: 6 (V-VII-XI) / 6 (VI-X-XII) / 2 (VI) / 0 / 0
Staff: 6 (VI-VII-XI) / 6 (VI-VII-II) / 0 / 0 / 2 (V)

"Rangers Can't Play Their Class"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Dungeons go like this:

Run through trash
Stack
Run
Stack
Move, to stack again
Run through final trash to boss
Stack
etc.

Rangers aren’t a stacking class.

I have two rangers, my first character was a ranger, and I still play it, but rangers are horrible for dungeons. One big reason is that their weapons are scaled to balance with the damage done by pets, but there are so many idiotic gimmicks in dungeons that one-hit-kill pets that you’re looking at working at reduced DPS capacity at inopportune times. You’re forced to then ignore your pet and focus on your own DPS exclusively (which, again, scaled to balance with pet DPS, is going to be lower than everyone else’s, and on top of that requires mostly selfish traiting), or on creating some sort of hybrid support build. if you go Hybrid/support you’re pretty much kissing DPS goodbye and edging limply into territory dominated by other classes.

Fundamentally, their abilities require room to move around so they can really dominate a wide space (traps, sword #1 leaps, a pet that flaps around closing gaps like crazy). So, in just about any other circumstance the Ranger really shines: open world, PvP, WvW (really great fun imo). But in dungeons there is nothing they can do that most other classes can do better. Which is stack.

I don’t quite experience Ranger like you do.

Pets:
Only few fights it’s challanging to keep pets alive due to 1-shots (Subject Alpha, Tazza for example) just for some fights you have to make sure your pet isn’t eating cleave which is often done with a quick f3 -> f1. Pets hardly get the aggro due to their low toughness (yes, I’m simply assuming you run Jaguar/Stalker.) There’s always f4 for moments you weren’t paying enough attention. I’m not saying pets aren’t annoying to manage, but it’s not impossible like you seem to think. If there’s any complaint I’d have about pets is that in runs where trash is significant (low-dps PuG or Fractals) Felines have no cleave, though for those kind of groups you can luckily swap to Frost Drake and Reef Drake. In some Fractal Fights I take Spiders to make it easier for myself, but I’m quite sure those fights are simply a learn to play issue from my side, my Ranger doesn’t get enough play-time. I almost exclusively PuG and most groups, even without X-class only descriptions, kick the second they see a Ranger. I can’t quite say I blame them.

Mobility:
I find Sword works just as well in stacking as it does for any class. Just sometimes I have “oh kitten” moments with the leap, but that’s because I’m bad at my class, not the class. Only fight I can think of where Sword is a problem with stacking is in fights like Old Tom fight because there’s no way the leap allows you to stay behind the Earth Elemental or any other anchor or fights where max-melee range is a must (Mai Trin) So for those fights I simply pack Greatsword, adjust the trait and sure, I lose some DPS, but once again, it’s not impossible.

I think Rangers are a wonderful class and I really enjoy playing them, much to my surprise, I thought I’d absolutely detest them because you have to use a pet. There’s just one thing that makes me incredibly sad; the moment someone picks up the Banner of Discipline/Strenght next to your Frost Spirit and you can’t carry Frost. (traits are too valuable.)

TL;DR: I don’t think it’s the class that’s the problem, but simply players mentality. Sadly Rangers seem to have more players with that mentality, but it’s exactly the same as ending up with a Staff (+ Scepter/Shield) Guardian, D/D or P/P only Thief, Grenades-only Engineer and so on. Due to this Ranger becomes unbeloved in PuGs and some people (like me) simply take a different class to be more desired and the image of Rangers never changes. (PS: not saying I’m a good Ranger, but I atleast try to be useful :p)

Fastest way to get Festival Tokens?

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Like Rayti said, mix it up. Whilst in Crown Pavilion make sure you tag the Boss Blitz (1 boss is enough) to get the end-reward for Gauntlet tickets and then do the Gauntlet fights you can do easily. (None of them is really challanging, except Liadri) The Boss Blitz only gives 18 tokens on Bronze (which usually seems to be the case) but free tickets saves you buying 5 for 35(?) tokens. Tier 1 bosses are 14 tokens each, tier 2 are 21 tokens each and tier 3 are 28 tokens (once a day!) that’s a stack right there, slightly more or less depending on whether you can do Liadri in 1 try/find it worth doing her, kinda a long fight.

In the Zephyr Sanctum tag the events and fill the rest of your time in arena’s or sprint. The gold rewards are easy and yield 43 tokens, but don’t spawn very regular, so fill your time with Arena’s (~10 or ~20 tokens depending on win and loss) or Sprint (~10-20 tokens depending when you finish.) The events get announced way before time and can be completed last minute once you know them.

You can always go Gold → Materials → Boxes, but I seem to get Quartz mainly.

All of mine turned into 1 token aswell. How did you guys get that many (like 100/100?) When I did a boss twice I got no reward at the end so I assumed a daily lock, or is it simply a prevention of repeating 1 boss over and over?

The chest with tokens is daily for each fight, but you should always get a gauntlet chance (and another one for each gambit used), even repeating.

Ah fair enough, I was saving my tickets for Liadri so I likely was so disappointed about no tokens for tickets I must have missed it. Still gotta figure out a fight I can do easily with all 5 gambits, 6 tickets per attempt, boo. ^^

A few general questions about PvP/salvaging

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Crude or Basic for Greens/Blues if you don’t vendor them. 68+ Rares either sell or Mystic/Master salvage kit.

I salvage all my greens/blues for Luck with Copperfed o’matic (Basic Salvage Kit quality) and salvage Yellows under ~34s with a Mystic Salvage Kit. Due to cost/return values.

As for the PvP-title Tracks it depends on what you’d rather have:
Region Tracks give: Relatively commonly found skins, Ascended Material (Bloodstone dust, Dragonite ore, Emphyreal fragments) and Obsidian Shards, both used for Ascended Crafting.
Dungeon Tracks give: Dungeon Weapons, level 80 exotic weapons with any stat the dungeon generally provides, few dungeon Tokens and at the end a single piece of armor with the same stat possibilities as the Weapons.
They both give Transmutation Charges, Tome of Knowledge and some random loot.
For more information check the “Wiki-page”-http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Reward_track

I tend to do the Arah and CoE track over and over. They reward Berserker Weapons and Gear which is the meta and helps me gear any new alt very cheaply in Exotics. But if this is no concern I’d recommend going for the title track with skins you like. (Note: Dungeon title-tracks are on a rotation until you complete storymode of the Dungeon.)

Guardian vs Warrior for PVE/dungeons/Fun

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Fun is very subjective, so I’m simply going to tell you how I feel the classes differ and hope it will help you make a choice. Assuming meta everything is DPS orientated, but classes bring their own uniqueness to a team:

Guardians are the defensive support of a group. Condition Removal, Reflects, Stability, Aegis, Blinds, Protection, you have them all at your disposal, mainly in utilities, meaning you will want to get to know the fights and swap accordingly beforehand. Most of your survivability is active and groupwide, learning how to use them properly is vital to being a good Guardian.

Warriors are the offensive supports, they bring Banner of Discipline/Strenght to increase a parties damage output along with either Fury/Might (For Great Justice) or Vulnerability (On My Mark) to further increase a groups DPS. For this reason you’ll usually have the same utilities once the group is set up. As a bonus they have a lot of self-survivability due to a high hp-pool along high armor (Guardians have a very low HP-pool) and Healing Signet. Warriors are currently a favourite of mine PuG-wise since you can stack ~20 Might solo with Phalanx Strenght at the cost of a bit of your own dps. Sadly I’m not a big fan of the playstyle.

Dungeons PuG-groups generally want 1 Guardian max, but tend to stack Warriors endlessly, only very few Speedclear Records use Guardians, but quite a few use a Warrior for Banners. So popularity-wise you don’t really have to worry with either, but might push the favour towards Warrior.

Hope you find the class you’re looking for!

100 blade shards = 1 green

Esmee.1067

We’re not all farmers.

I play some wvw, pve, and pvp, and never once intentionally farmed for blade shards and I have over 1.5k(on just 1 character….my other characters also have lots) of them. Exchange rate sounds about right, imo. The green stuff will be more than satisfactory compensation, imo, especially since it will also free up quite a bit of room in my bank vault.

Plus, I might just take all that green stuff(since I basically didn’t pay anything for any of it) and dump it into the mystic toilet and maybe get some slightly better stuff.

Pretty much this, I got my Selfless and Thoughtless Potions and in the time I had left over I farmed some mobs, this ment I spend less than 1h a day in LA (most of it collecting Heirlooms and shoo’ing citizens.) I know plenty of people did it for almost 2 weeks straight, hour after hour in the hope for a lucky drop…

Blade Shards dropped plentiful. I had a whole storage panel full of them before I started deleting and I’m sure people who farmed the event even more (for loot, or experience, or enjoyment) could have had a whole bank full of them.

And you’re surprised it trades for something mediocre or worse after all the money-sinks we had lately? I’m not.

Impossible to make or join Fractal groups

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Because Ranger is the most nerfed class in game and nobody wants them in the group, it’s impossible to get into or make a group for Fractals!

I cannot progress beyond lv27 because nobody will join me and or will instantly kick me if I try join their group! I’ve been waiting for nearly 20minutes now with “swamp ready” etc to try bait people into joining, but no luck. I know full-well that it is because I am on my Ranger.

I enjoy bow classes and playing as a Ranger, but because of poor game design I am repeatedly forced into either playing as Melee Ranger or on another character JUST to complete dungeons and fractals. I think this is totally unfair and outrageous that I am forced to play another profession!

The only way to get Fractals done is to joina group that is not yet entered and quickly enter them at the level they want. That puts me in control of the instance and ensures they cannot kick me. I feel that this “exploit” is unfair to players and again, I should not be forced into taking such drastic actions JUST to do a fractal.

you think rangers don’t get any love?
Try maining a necro!

You’re complaining about two things here.

your first is the prejudice against rangers.

your second is that there are few game mechanics that make range worthwhile.

On the first point, people will join, you just need to be patient.
On the 2nd point..deal with it. as a necro. I have to focus on power instead of conditions.(which is a little against the class role). Rangers aren’t just about range. And if the mechanic doesn’t call for it, deal with it and play melee.

Melee does more damage, which means bosses get killed quicker. Thats why people want you to melee. don’t like it? play a staff ele, I think thats the only class thats “acceptable” as range…or suggest to anet to make range encounters more viable. but right now, just get used to playing melee,

You tell him to suck it up and deal with it because you’ve got it worse? That’s a bit selfish and inconsiderate don’t you think? It’s wrong you’re forced to play power even though you think ’it’s a little against the class role’ but it makes no sense for a Ranger wanting to play Ranged… Ye, I find it a bit hypocritical.

Anyway, I’d recommend both of you to find a guild that fits your needs. Either a guild that you’ve get a chance to show how much you can add to a meta-team or a guild that isn’t focussed around the meta at all. PuGs won’t change, when people are working with strangers they rather have them on classes that are favour of the month or add something unique they think they’ll need. Play a favour of the month and skill suddently doesn’t seem to matter.

Had plenty of teams with a non-favour of the month class and feeling as if they ‘carried’ them through the content. Though when I see an Engineer stacking 9-12 might every ~24 seconds along with decent Vulnerability stacks and popping anti-projectile Elixers or Condition cleanses when he notices the Guardian doesn’t, I know he’s not getting carried by the Staff 1 spam from the Guardian. But does the average PuG cares, or even notices? Doubtful.

Bottomline, you can adjust but you can’t make people change.

Both quoted for a lot of truth:

you may way to just buy the ascended inscriptions/insignia you would otherwise use dark matter to make. There are some weird parts of ascended crafting that are TP-able… You don’t actually have to deal with dark matter.

My personal favourite:

Buy exotics with some valueable rune inside (Traveler), use Blacklion kit. Sell rune and ecto, enjoy your 1-2g profit and keep collecting Dark Matter. I made much gold like this before I got bored and ended with tons of Dark Matter as well.

I’ve saved up about 8 Black Lion Salvage Kits from dailies over the past 4 months, made a nice profit by finding the right weapons/armor with profitable sigils, ecto/dark matter was a bonus, currently sitting at 170. Who isn’t lucky has to be smart. Sorry you had such an unlucky streak though.

Rabid gear builds

Esmee.1067

I agree with all the people recommending to not build a PvE-character around an Ascended drop you got if the stats aren’t good, a full Ascended armor-set makes about 5-10% difference, which isn’t much if you think of it per piece. How-ever Conditions are very powerful in WvW roaming situations (or PvP but gear has no meaning in PvP,) so if you think you’ll enjoy that, make sure you keep it.

Class-specific forums have great threads for builds if you can decide on a class, the Blackwater Mesmer is a perfect example. Necro’s, Mesmers, Engineer, Ranger and Warrior all have some nasty condition-specs.

NO TO GEAR CHECKS – it would make the game snobby – that is how it was in Rift and TERA.

Snobby? Really? So because you think it might be “snobby”, the other players can’t enjoy the feature? Anyway, GW2 is just kitten. It did not develop over the past 2 years enough to keep anyone satisfied. I suggest you all take a look at Black Desert. F2p and it’s one of the best looking mmorpgs I have ever seen. I’ve given up on GW2. Two years I have been loyal, but I have my limits.

Right
I’m trying to say why not look at the big games and learn
After all there is a reason they are at the top

If you look too much at the big games, or any big product and down-right copying the features is not going to give you succes for long. (SWTOR anyone?) People will simply crawl back to the original either because they’re used to it and feel more accomplished or it had way more time to develop and thus has more (possible better) content.

You see thread likes these every day:
- Guild Wars 2 needs a Holy Trinity
- Guild Wars 2 needs Vertical Progression
- Guild Wars 2 needs DPS parses
- Guild Wars 2 needs in inspect option

I, for one, would just like to point out I enjoy Guild Wars for the unique things it offers. I find it refreshing to play the way gw2 plays with dodging, supporting without being a dedicated support, even though for PvE this means we’re all DPS. I enjoy collecting pretty skins and even more I enjoy being able to put down the game for a year or more and return being able to still do all content instead of farming gear for months. I enjoy the community Guild Wars has managed to collect (for the most part) and I find it refreshing. Not saying there’re no room for improvement, there’s loads, but I honestly hope they’ll keep adding to their content rather than come quality of life copies people seem to beg for. (E.g. I’d prefer more dungeon-paths/fractals, PvP-maps, maybe refreshing WvW changes rather than copying other games.)

Guild Wars is a pay once, play forever game. To me it’s ment to be put down for a few months and then played for a few months instead of non-stop, it simply doesn’t have the content to keep anyone entertained, but luckily you can, because you can return without having to feel you’re way behind.

Not saying the game should stay the way I enjoy it, I hope a company will be smart enough to do what’s good for their wallets and not my enjoyment, but I enjoy Guild Wars for what it is. Just wanted to put it out there.

PS: This is quality

So why spend time and work Collect materials if not I get out of anything but the illusion that it is really worth! But not really!!!

We’re talking about virtual materials, bought by virtual currency, giving you a virtual pretty weapon instead of a virtual strong weapon? Or did I misunderstand?
