Current, best way to farm linen cloth?

in Crafting

Esmee.1067

I open the champion bags I recieve whilst doing Dungeons/Fractals (obviously Champ-farm would be faster, but I enjoy Dungeons/Fractals.) on lower level toons so the items that come from it salvage into Linen (check wiki for level-range) since the chance for T6 materials comes from the quality of the bag (Exotic) rather than the level apparently. I open mine on a 69 toon currently and receive plenty of Linen and t6 Materials, still want to try on a 49 toon due to what all possible material results turn into being 1s-5s. Not a very viable option for someone without an alt in the Linen levelrange though.

I also used to turn Karma into Crab-grabber (Bloodtide coast → Sorrowful WP, heart-vendor to the north) to put in the forge and then salvage for Linen, but Karma is too valuable to really make this worthwhile.

Any other method I think getting the Gold to buy it is easier.

How do I do the CoF solo-parts?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Esmee.1067

The main point of running it solo is to be over when Maggs is done with inspecting the stone for a instaport to your location so definitely no cleanser.

How do all classes cross the Magmacite field solo?

Swiftness.

You’ve ever tried explaining that to a pug who just all port back and expect someone to solo it, because they’ve seen others do it? On ele I tend to run out of Endurance before I’m fully across. It almost makes me reluctant taking my Elementalist in PuGs.

If you are always the one running how did everyone port back to start?

You can’t force people to be “better” but you get the option to carry them if you want.

edit: like ephme said. FGS works. pop a lh an leap your way in the start. do a skip and a jump and throw up a swirling winds. obsidian flesh. ether renewal. Ele’s got TONS of stuff. no need for dodging.

Average PuG situation: We all do Magg’s bomb-collection part, then I assume we all run accross but people start porting back until you’re the only one left and then expected you to solo it. About 25% of the time it’s this, other 75% people ask if some-one can solo, luckily. In organized groups we let the Thief or Warrior do it, on which I’ve never found it difficult either and let’s face it, there’s more comminication if no-one would be able to solo.

I’ll give the suggestions a go though. I haven’t kept my Focus off-hand on my attempts yet due to it being slow as a snail neither have I tried FGS, saving it for fights, FGS will allow me to do it similar and better than my Warrior. Kajin’s explaination is very helpful aswell and I’ll give it a go.

Xallever solved the mystery of the Elementalist being way faster than me, I usually go the normal D/F rotation, Lightning Flash on Fire #3 and saving my elite, your way sounds a lot better though. Thief is how I currently do it, but without the Elite, you might have noticed I prefer saving my Elites for the boss-fight. Mesmer I go Mantra of Pain activations, iPistol, Sword #3 iSwordsman, Sword #2 and Shatter when it would finish it off, it ain’t perfect, but with Blink/Portal in your utilities already it isn’t too horrible.

Best use of Laurels, Karma, & BoH?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

TL;DR in case you dislike arguments and decide to trust a stranger.

I’d like to add:
Laurels: Aim for the trinkets that aren’t rings, rings can be easily obtained by doing Fractals (guaranteed reward of 1 token per daily (there’re more than 1 ‘daily’) and 10 tokens trade for any ring you’d like.)

Badge of Honor Sometimes I also find the WvW-gear worth it but only if the whole set would cost me ~25g+ on the TP (though I prefer to use Dungeon Tokens since there Token → Gold ratio tends to be worse.) This is because ~1 badge is worth 42 Copper if you buy blueprints and sell it, the Armor costs 950 badges and 5g 44s per set. Usually Rams/Arrow Carts are your best bet, but always check (assuming you have no use for Badges and want gold.) I tend to do this for the daily if I have little time to complete any others available. The Invaders armor (Power/Toughness/Vitality) is the exception by costing 1689 badges, resulting in +/- 7g 9s 38c.

Karma
For Karma to Gold I found Orrian Boxes very lacking (maybe it was bad luck?) I tend to go to the heart-trader above the Sorrowful Waypoint in Bloodtide Coast and buy Crab-grabbing gloves (light) and put 4 in the mystic forge and sell/salvage the result (which is often Linen.) But I’d highly recommend saving it since it’s difficult to obtain and required in Legendary and Ascended-crafting. I once again only do this if I have little time to otherwise complete my daily.

TL;DR
Laurels to gear – Buy Ascended Amulet/Accessories, not Rings.
Laurels to gold – t6 Crafting bags
Badges to gear – Only if the set would cost 25g+ on the TP, or 7g+ for Invaders (Soldier’s)
Badges to gold – Blueprints, currently Arrowcarts are best, closely followed by Rams.
Karma to Gear – I recommend against this since Karma has become difficult to obtain.
Karma to Gold – I recommend against this since Karma has become difficult to obtain.

Luck isn't on my side.

I do almost every content I do with 2 friends, 57% MF and 112% MF, I’m at 160% MF and they consistently get more luck on rares, exotics. Neither of us have ever seen I precursor from what I’m aware. Another friend with 20% MF (he doesn’t believe in it so doesn’t bother salvaging) rarely plays but beats us all (though maybe some hidden DR) including some precursors, but always complains he’s unlucky (in every game.) RNG is RNG, though I’m getting quite good at finding the ‘guaranteed’ reward spots lately.

The only thing that beats me is that the lucky people seem to be luckier than me in every game, throwing the logic I love so much out of the window.

[Suggestion] Salvage Asc. gear for Laurels

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Esmee.1067

Usually suggestions tend to be bizarre but…not in this case. This actually makes some sense. To keep it low, of course, it’d have to be 1 laurel per ascended item, despite what kind of item it is.

I don’t know. Considering it takes at least 25 laurels per trinket, and up to 40, plus the 5 for an infusion, I don’t see why you can’t get 5 for the trinket plus 1 for the infusion. It would still take you quite a bit of time to save up enough laurels for even one new item.

The rings would likely have to be a bit less. I don’t know the exact average, but I seem to get 1 ring every 5 runs (only counting the levels where rings drop ofcourse) and my friends think the rate is more 1 out of 3 and that I’m a bit unlucky, meaning you could get about 1 rings per 2 days on top of normal rewards, where-as Laurels are currently strictly restricted to 1 per day. I don’t see any value to Laurels besides gearing all my toons, so I’d love 5, it just seems out of place.

I love the idea! Considering we’re already on a roll making more builds viable (well attempt to) and becoming more alt-friendly!

50 Black Lyon Keys

Esmee.1067

so, basically you got a whole lot of nothing.

For me this wouldn’t have been the worst outcome of a gamble:
Gold Total:
3 mini Caithe – 4g 80s / each – 14g 40s
1 Pink Quaggan – 2g 99s 65c
1 Plush Charr – 92s 37c
12 Unidentified Dyes – 38s 48c / each – 4g 61s 76c
Total: 22g 93s 78c (18g 35s 2c after TP-fees)

Tickets:
2 Black Lion Claim Ticket and 6 Scraps is a bit more difficult to name, if you buy/sell straight away you can count on ~50g/ticket, but if you wait a few months it could add up to 150g/ticket.

Gem total: (for items I’d use, but this is very personal.)
3 Make-over Kits – 1050 Gems
1 Hairstyle Kit – 250 Gems
10 Transmutation Stones – 360 Gems
3 Black Lion Keys – 375 Gems
Black Lion Salvage Kit – 300 Gems
Total: 2335 Gems

So the results are +/- 118g 35s 2c in gold, 2335 Gems in items (assuming you have use for all the items I listed, since that’s personal.) which in 1 currency would be 4088 gems with a 4000 Gems investment, or 274g 96s 27c for a 270g investment. With the potentional of +50-150g if you wait patiently with selling the Ticket-Weaponskins.

I didn’t count the Scraps since ‘just’ them trades for absolutely nothing, nor the items I highly doubt anyone uses, let alone invests gems in.

Oh and dear OP, thank you for sharing! I’m always curious about these gambles.

Bag/bank slots tomorrow, no grenth hood/toxic

Esmee.1067

Why no bag/bank/character slots on sale…………………………………………………………..

because people already want those, so no need to increase demand.
this explanation is why I stopped going to Black Friday sales. places advertise things like “up to 80% off!” – but the only things that are 80% off are a) hella expensive to begin with, and b) things no one wants where they ordered too much and can’t get rid of. things people want are usually like 10% or less off, if that. the last time they put these expansions on 20% off sale, the price of gems went up like 40%.

Didn’t stop them last year, a small discount would make people happy enough. Over-all bringing the most popular item back (which I dare to say due to their screwup of making the 5 keys for 292 mistake) isn’t a horrible idea, in case people who still want to spend money missed it, but I expected them to have a more impressive ending.

CoF p1 the gate and CoF p2 the way to the Magmacite. Some classes I find these things very easy to do but with some other classes I struggle.

How do classes do the gate on p1 most efficiently?
Assuming Meta-builds, which weapons/utilities would be best per class. Gate never really poses an issue, but I feel slow on anything that isn’t Warrior/Thief/Mesmer (considering you miss 1 utility on Portal, still slower than Warrior/Thief.)

How do all classes cross the Magmacite field solo?
Thief and Engineer I simply stealth and run as quickly as possible. Warrior can also endure almost everything going on whilst leaping/cleansing. Mesmer I stealth certain parts, Guardian and Necromancer I can cleanse and outlive, but on Elementalist I just can’t manage reliably, where-as quite a lot of groups tell me to do it since Elementalist is the easiest to do it on. I’d like to know what’d be the best way to do these on each classes. Utilities/Weapons/Maggs cleanser yes or no.

Thank you!

Good wvw zerg builds?

in Guardian

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

WvW zerg-builds are based on survivability and groupsupport, which isn’t needed nearly as much in PvE, as result Zerging-builds will have very limited effect in PvE, where-as the other way around you’ll be lacking survivability considerably. Consider getting 2 sets of gear and relearn your traits if you truly wish to be useful in both game-modes.

WvW-builds will generally look something like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vUAQJAWBlsApVo1ChgoJisCrE7BGzYHvekQKyQA-zkyAYLhI0GGtBj+EIqAS2rIasV2ioxqsxUuCyq3kKAoA-w
Empty utility can be anything you like: Wall of Reflection, Signet of Judgement, Save Yourselves for example.
Food I’d recommend either Omnomberry Compote (survivability) Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry Soup (survivability vs conditions) or anything that buffs your damage/Magic Find.

Where-as for PvE it’d be more something like:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vUAQNAsdRlsApZolCxXI8DNhkzQkQQbGA0BVpIeuHA-zwxAYrkREiIVQIL5VEN2ibR0Y11YKXioaSBExwI-e

As you can see the WvW-build is quite ‘selfish’ when it comes down to survivability, which would be heavily overkill for PvE whilst you’d be lacking damage and thus drag your team down. Not to mention it has little effect to try and outheal PvE-damage since you might aswell have dodged that 1 or 2 abilities a boss uses that would harm you. On top of that in PvE you will be facing different fights with different needs all the time, which makes a full shout-based build a bad idea since you’ll want to be able to swap your utilities around as much as possible. The Virtue of Justice applying Blind/Vulnerability and recharging when a foe dies is invaluable for trash aswell.

If you really insist on finding a mid-way I suppose you could attempt a mixture of Knight and Cavalier gear, it will hurt your damage in PvE and cripple your Survivability in WvW, but you’ll only have to spend 3.5s to respec when you go from WvW to PvE.

Couple questions about PvE & PvP?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

1. Yes, a new system is planned with the patch 15th April. What the system entails exactly isn’t public yet.

2. I’m not certain, but if it’s true yes, it will be visual looks since all PvP-gear is equal.

3. Currently PvP-gear and PvE-gear is completely split. You can’t acquire PvE-gear in PvP or PvP-skins in PvE, they do use the same models. (Like the dungeon Arah reward armor is also unlockable in PvP by playing PvP.) This will all change in the April 15th patch when gear-skins will become shared due to the new Wardrope.

4. Currently PvP can be done at any level without affecting your PvP-rewards in any way. You will ofcourse miss out on WvW and PvE. With the April 15th patch they’ll implent a new system that rewards people for playing a mixture of PvP and PvE, how much influence that will have on your rewards is yet to be seen. Example: The dungeon-armor will have their own Reward-track which will be available from time to time, but will be permanently available if you do the Storymode of that dungeon.

5. There is no rush to 80, enjoy the game in the way you find pleasureable. How-ever the downscaling system isn’t perfect so for a lot of places people will exclude non-80s or you’ll be at a disadvantage. To give you a general idea.
Dungeons: level 30+ (unlocking dungeons 1 by 1 depending on your level.)
Fractals: Level 80-only
WvW: Any level, you’ll be upscaled but at a disadvantage due to the scaling-system not being flawless.
PvP: Level has no effect what-so-ever.

Vol's Epic Gold Making Guide

Esmee.1067

The moment you realise that Vol’s sig wasn’t sarcasm. That was your sig right? How to make x-amount of gold/hour linking to staff 1? Likely amazing guide, it looks very well written and I’d test it if I wasn’t so crap at tagging with my guardian (slightly depressing yes.)

yay, a guide about how you should play A.K.A. take a guardian or scram…..

Like mentioned in the guide his experience mainly comes from Guardian and it’s his believe they are the best taggers, it doesn’t mean they, exclusively, can profit from this method. Most classes can be build to tag atleast reasonable:
Elementalist – Air Dagger #1 is quite decent but it will never be Staff #1 for Guardians, possibly Staff (Fire #1 and #2) FGS for Mobility (along with Utilities.)
Necromancer – Wells (spec into wells siphoning health if you insist on running all 3 so they deal damage and wells using groundtargetting) and place down marks beforehand/during. Warhorn #5 is decent damage aswell. Downside: lower mobility.
Engineer – Gradenier-trait for 3 grenades per throw which have different targets (so worst case you hit 5 mobs per ability, optimally 15, most realisticly somewhere in the middle.) Or bombkit can do a decent job (speedy kits for perma swiftness/rocket boots for mobility.)
Ranger – Traps (and traps use ground-targetting) Longbow #5, Axe #1, it isn’t great though.
Thief – Shortbow and any traits helping Shortbow, initiative or mobility. (Place Shortbow #4 preëmptively and #5 to get in melee-range and start spamming those cluster bombs #2.) Utilities obviously aimed at Mobility aswell, maybe Caltrops.
Warrior – Uhm, they’re suppose to be good at everything right? Axe #5 is decent. Greatsword #3 might hit something aswell and #2 if you know where the mobs become vulnerable.

Mesmers, ye scram. The phantasm/illusion mechanics has a bit too much build-up for this.

Dungeon rutine

Esmee.1067

You get 1/1.5g PLUS 26s for each run. So let´s say you only run SE 1-3 and AC 1+3, that´s 3*(1g+0.26g)2*(1.5g0.26g) = 7.3g!!! And that´s without loot yet. So with a bit of luck you could get up to 10g only by those 5 paths

You seem to count SE p2 aswell, I’ve done it only once, but isn’t that path ridicilously long (compared to the average dungeon?) I assume you ment AC p2, which is really quick, assuming the party has decent DPS and does it in 1, maybe 2 traps. (Which most PuGs seem to manage just fine.)

I’d like to mentioned TA up (fwd is decent too) and CoF p1 (maybe p2 if you have time leftover) aswell, I’ve never timed them but they definitly feel just as fast as AC p3. All are just as easy to find groups kitten p1 + p3 from my experience.

If I’m limited on time I’d do:
AC p1 + p2, CoF p1, SE p1, TA up. Assuming groups are available, these are the paths I feel I have the best times on in the average PuG (feel, didn’t time.)

For the Love of Taimi

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Not to turn this into a sharing session, but…

It’s great to see the love for Taimi is everywhere. I don’t think she just stands out because she’s disabled, but because she’s such a curious and witty girl that takes action and finds sollutions. I really hope she’ll play a big part in the upcoming Living Stories, obviously not in the big fights, she’s so young still, but more as a brain of the operation. I’d love that. That and Braham and Taimi have one of the most funny and interesting relationship I’ve seen for a while in MMO’s. When I figured out she was disabled I felt as if someone kicked me in the heart. I’m so afraid they’ll focus too much on her disability and not on everything else she has to offer. It too easily makes me worry about myself whilst I game to find a distraction.

I’ve been disabled since I was 7, at first I simply had limited mobility and minor pain but it’s gotten worse every single year due to bad threatment up to a point I can barely walk, nor can I comfortably sit, which is a rather poor combination. I can’t say I know what you feel, since no-one can, but I do dare to say I’m familiar with the effects it can have on someone. Reading your post made me feel so worried for you, I really hope you can find more strenghts to focus on the here and now and not worry as much about the future. I’ve been trying for 15 years and I’ve yet to find a way to do it properly myself, but I have seen that any scenerio I thought possible 5, maybe 10 years ago, none of it came true because of so many unexpected oppertunities arrise.

I personally related a bit more with Tybalt. Unlike Taimi his disability affected him a lot, which I sadly have to say, is the case with me aswell. As selfish as this might sound, sometimes it’s nice to see that I’m not the only one who lets her life be shaped by her disability.

I wish you the best of luck with everything, may the dreams you worked so hard to achieve stay true!

~Esmee

PS: For those who are curious about my disability.
As a child I got a form of Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, this caused a disruption in the bloodflow towards the femoral head of my right hip, causing the bone to die (and thus stop growing and it slowly deformed.) My disease never got the the stage where the necrotic bone gets restored. As result I have a similar issues as people with Osteoarthritis. Due to multiple surgeries at a young age it’s suspected my muscles got damaged aswell, along with the bone being in such a poor state it’s too risky to attempt a hip-replacement.

My quest to 30 HoM points

Hello. I’m seeking assistance with my quest to achieve 30 HoM points. I’m 9 years late to the party, but I recently acquired eye of the north, and have been working my way up to 30 HoM points. I am currently at 18 points, but am now hitting some progress walls. I’m seeking pretty much anything and everything. I’m 6 minis short of 50, and am starved for ectos (stupid tormented weapons are pricey.) If anyone can help in any way, shape, or form, I would greatly appreciate it. Minis, tonics, gold, ectos, crafting materials, zkeys, war supply, whatever. Everything helps; if anyone doesn’t mind parting with some of their ancient treasure, please send me a pm or post here. Thanks a bunch.

I’ve got loads of undedicated mini’s on my GW toons, heck, I’ve got doubles of doubles now with 8-9 birthday gifts, lol, I dont know which side of the ocean you’re on but I can certainly spare a few.

PM me a time and date, I’m GMT +2 and I’ll be more than willing to give you a few of them

Sadly I’m on 25 points myself despite have a ton of money and ectos, last time I logged in I saw no one to trade with anymore to obtain the stuff I need to get to 30

Try Guildwarsguru, I’ve heard people say the trading section still gets some replies. I can’t say I’ve tried it though.

From there you can pick the stats you want and from that page the weapon to assemble a buy-list. I’d recommend using gw2spidey.com for the compenents (say you make an Axe, search Deldrimor Steel Axe Blade and Small Spiritwood Haft) what’d be the cheapest option to get it. Example: http://www.gw2spidy.com/recipe/7797

How to acquire the compenents:
Vision Crystal:
Dragonite Ore – Worldbosses (Temples especially) or following a WvW-zerg if you enjoy WvW.
Empyreal Shards – Dungeons, I’d recommend AC all paths, Twillight UP/Fwd, SE p1+p3 CoF p1 (maybe 2) HotW p1+p2, CoE all paths, have your pick. WvW-zerging can be a slower alternative.
Bloodstone Dust – Kill champions, leave this for last since your quest for Dragonite/Empyreal pieces will yield plenty of champion boxes and thus dust.
Obsidian Shards Farm Karma (Edge of the Mist-train / Queensdale Champtrain) or Fractal tokens (15/e) if you enjoy Fractals.
Glob of Dark Matter Salvage Exotics, the smart way (if you have a Black Lion Kit) is by buying Exotic gear with a similar value as the Sigil/Rune to break even, ecto’s and the Glob of Dark Matter will be a bonus.

Rest is all buyable with gold and as usually the case, best done by getting the gold in a way you find enjoyable. Suggestions:
- Dungeon-running (gw2dungeons.net)
- Worldboss-chains (us.gw2stuff.com)
- Nodefarming (gw2nodes.com)
- Frostgorge Champfarming
- If you don’t need your Laurels (unlikely) trading them for a Crafting bag with t6 materials.

Goodluck!

second armour problem

To clarify a bit more. The heroic edition gives you the same skin two times;
- One on an accountbound set without a level requirement (the one you’re wearing) and
- One in the form of skins that can be applied over your current skin (the one you tried to use.) Where-as most gemstore items only give you the skin.

Note that a skin can only be applied once after that you need to use an item called a Transmutation Stone (level 1-79) or a Transmutation crystal (level 80) which you can also use on the armorset you’ve currently got equiped.

I’d elaborate on that, how-ever on the 15th of April the system will change as mentioned by Rainbow Sprint, so all that matters is that you keep atleast 1 copy of the skin so it will always be available to you after that date.

Welcome to Guild Wars 2 and MMO’s.

Help with my next class.

in Players Helping Players

Esmee.1067

High DPS – Both can be build to do quite a lot of DPS. Currently Elementalist is one of the best DPS-classes for PvE (Fiercy Greatsword vs walls is tough to beat, along with loads of might/fury stacking and damage modifiers.) How-ever for other Scenario’s (WvW/sPvP) I’d say they’re quite on par (mainly since Survivability becomes key.)
Survivability – Necromancers have high HP and more or less a second healthpool due to Death Shroud (if not used actively in builds can still be used as a buffer to soak up big hits.) Elementalist on the other hand have low HP, low Armor, making them very squishy, meaning they have to either gear or trait defensively to be survivable, thus reducing their damage.
Fun – That’d be completely opinion-based. I’m personally a huge fan of the Elementalist and main her in PvE (dungeons/fractals, alongside with a Guardian if heavies are needed,) but if survivability is a key-point I’d highly recommend Necromancer, who for that same reason is my main WvW-zerging toon. They’re incredibly scrappy without sacrificing too much DPS.

I dare to say a majority of the community will have invested money that is now redundant due to this update, you are not the only one with double Legendary’s, double skins, double dyes, as a matter of fact most people will. But we’ve been able to enjoy this up until when the update hits and then we and every new player to come will benefit from the new system. I too felt a bit disappointed at first reading about the new system, but I think in the longrun it will be more rewarding for everyone, change is always difficult.

I feel your pain though.

A friend of mine got the dagger-skin by doing ~20 Fractals, after Fractured. RNG is RNG. I’m still hoping to get one eventually.

Have you ever broken ALL of your armor?

2 pieces from pugging Fractals, especially the first few times when I still forgot to repair every time I enter. Luckily I either carry repair canisters or let some-one else open. Maybe a few pieces in WvW following my favourite Commander around, but I can’t recall for sure, Necromancers have amazing survivability.

Yesterday my Elementalist shoulder-piece broke in AC p2, I died once so I guess it had been a while since I talked to an anvil. Full zerker is painful with such a short anti-projectile.

But all pieces, not that I can recall.

Gear is your own choice, just don’t get one-shotted my siege. I use PPT just because it’s what I have and I’m too poor to afford more armor sets…(ascended armour is soooo expensive)

Glad I could help you out!

I’m only going to use Exotics until I decide who I enjoy the most for WvW (I’m a bit bored of Necromancer and she’s my least favourite PvE-toon so I feel I need to try more.) So any set is available to me (though I’d rather hold on to my Quartz Crystals for now.)

I believe there are some builds on the top of the forum, too.
For roaming I’d suggest dagger dagger, with Air trait I and Arcana VIII you have permanent swiftness, and you have acouple of dashes for even more speed. Add in Fiery greatsword, and you map completion is done in notime.

Thank you kindly! And kitten that was quick. I assume full PTV gear with that set-up?

I’d like to get more active on my Elementalist in World v World for a while, big group mainly. I’m aware there’re high skill/low reward according to a lot of people, but I enjoy playing them more than any class in PvE and I want to try them in WvW. I’m mainly worried about my survivability (coming from a Necromancer) but I also want to learn a bit more about how to support my team. I know the updates are incoming, but I’ve been very bored for a while and got impatient.

Anyone happen to know a good guide I could read or watch? If not I’ll already be very happy if someone knows the meta-build. From glance I’m guessing:

Weapon: Staff due to Water Fields/static field/Fire Fields/Earth 3 and 4.
Gear: PVT or Celestial, maybe Cleric Trinkets (I fear the survivability.)
Traits: 0/0/10/30/30
(Armor of Earth, Cantrips, Larger Staff, Attunement/Dodge bonusses)
Utilities: Cantrips
Food: The condition reduction one maybe or +200 power on kill for more damage?

How-ever I’m concerned about no blast-finishers and all in all not experiened enough to judge at all. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

Bonusses for a Roaming-build aswell since I am considering map-completion if close to 100%. And I was wondering if there’s a collection of WvW-metabuilds/guides somewhere for future reference? In short, I’m completely in the blue WvW-wise and haven’t done much more than roaming on Mesmer/Thief and zerging with bulky Necromancer.

Thanks John..

Johns first mistakes in this patch. I knew it had to come. It probably isn’t even for convenience, but jsut to nerf the gold existing in the market.

My personal economy lesson for John. Undue the repair change. Continu with scarlet alike npc’s. Currency + gold to get something. Selfless potion is like what, 500 armor repairs? Repeat these, and you will have more sink then the not so clever repair cost overhaul.

I find this very confusing, could you elaborate a bit?

I’m quite confused aswell.

A non-sarcastic thank you from me though. I’m unsure for who it will really make a difference since it was such a minor money-sink, but I’m sure someone out there is very happy about it!

Elementalist has been the 1 toon I’ve played that bursted down everything in a matter of seconds (very disappointing in a way) but also dies like a fly. Now at level 80, thanks to Fiercy Greatsword and their offensive support (might-stacks) it’s still one that stands out for me, likely the reason most speedclears stack about 3 of those. How-ever any class can be made into an impressive DPS (just look for meta-builds, as the meta is DPS)

If I read correctly you will still have to walk to the right NPC to get your gear repaired, so don’t throw your Repair-Canisters away. The Trait-reset will be useless from what I understand, maybe if you bought them directly (opposed to drops from BLC) you can get a refund?

I can obviously be completely wrong.

Braham needs to get more diverse with weapons, I’d love an axe, warhorn, sword, maybe a greatsword in the same style as well!

Interesting about the lovestruck weapons, I absolutely adore them (got 3 daggers, 1 focus, 1 staff and 2 scepters for my Elementalist when they were released) so I might try and invest in some others. Doubt anyone would go for such a buyorder though. But this is rare to happen to BLT weapons? I’ve only been playing since the Lovestruck and I’m very curious.

I never paid much attention, but I’m pretty certain they hadn’t ever been sold for less than 20 or so gold a piece. But the implication of JUST the pistol having the orders plummet down to 5 seems to me, someone silly stockpiled, and dumped several 100 of them for some reason. I dont know about numbers, though, but i definitely placed 5 orders of them for 5g, just to see >.>

I mean, look at this: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/44912

It looks incredibly odd yes. But I also felt they didn’t rise much, but maybe I’m judging too soon? Once again I haven’t been playing long enough to have seen how it went with other weapons.

If you use a transmutation stone you can choose all combinations IMO.
If I read well, you have two ascended swords..a white and a red one, right ?
Just put those two in your inventory, use a transmutation crystal lvl80 (the light blue ones, not the yellow ones) and drag both swords in the appearing Transmuting frame. Then you can mix ‘n’ match however you like.
What you are basically doing is use one sword as a skin whilst maintaining the stats of the other.

that was what i was thinking but wiki got me confused by saying that the stats make the color

That’s only when you craft them, they’re basicly different skins all together. They’re like any weapon: Skin + Stats + Sigil. I’d also wait until the Wardrobe comes out unless you’re certain you never want the other look-wise.

The Longbow: Who does it best?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

I’ll speak for PvE since Lerak has PvP covered.
1. See Lerak’s post.
2. Only in open-world Pets are relatively capable of tanking, any other content they’re too squishy or struggle too much getting aggro. Warriors are quite a bit bulkier (higher armor and HP) than Rangers, so they’re not too shabby on survivability either.
3. Burning Arrows – Longbow damage is increased against burning foes. Reduces recharge on longbow skills and Stronger Bowstrings – Increases longbow range. Very similar to the Ranger except they can get Piercing Arrows aswell.
4. Warriors are generally more beloved than Ranger, though people to expect them to be mainly melee. (Like any other class though.) In any game-mode Warrior is currently in a better place than Ranger. (A great build for (pugging) dungeons involves: Axe/any + Longbow, how-ever the Longbow is only used for the Firefield (f1) and Blastfinisher (3) to give the party 3 stacks of Might, more with other blastfinishers such as Banners, in the beginning of the fight.)
5. Larger groups (than 5) are Zergs in WvW, Longbows aren’t ‘as’ beloved there as say Hammer, but you can always decide to carry it in your second Weaponslot.

I’d say the odds are in the favour of Warrior in the current state of the game, but in the end it’s all about you having fun.

I wouldn’t know a guide because it differs per stat, making it quite difficult to make a guide. Here’s how to use wiki as your personal guide. (Note, I’m using Zojja’s (Berserker) as an example, make sure you pick the stats you want since some ingredients (the inscription) differ.)

1. You wiki the exact Spire you want. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_weapon.
2. Click the name that goes with the stats you want.
(Example: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Zojja%27s_weapons)
3. Select the type of Weapon (Spire in your case) you want to make.
(Example: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Zojja%27s_Spire)
4a. Click each component to make the individually

If you prefer wiki can also generate a list of base ingredients, link is under the 4 final components. (Example: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Special:RunQuery/Base_ingredients_query&Base_ingredients%5B1%5D=Zojja%27s%20Spire&wpRunQuery=true) but I’d recommend going piece per piece and check gw2spidy to see if it’s better to craft or buy.

Improving fundamental issues with dungeons

Esmee.1067

I agree with:
- Less amount of HP on virtually anything in a dungeon.
- More interesting mechanics than 1-2 abilities per boss
- More incentive to clear trash

I’d be wary with ‘simply’ increasing their loot-table, how-ever I’m uncertain what a proper sollution would be, besides the boring obvious sollutions: gate’s are closed until mob X is killed or kill Y amount of mobs to unlock a bonus boss worth doing, which no-one wants.

New Low: Kicked for Playing the Game.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

2-man kick system is abusive and needs to be changed:

It happens again today, in Ascalon Catacombs. The party is running a record time dungeon run, nothing is wrong. Then the instance owners says: “I hate NPCs” because Hodgins bugs up and won’t open the door for the 2nd scepter in P1. I then make a joke and say “Ever feel like the people you work with are NPCs?” He kicks me out of the party.

I reported him in-game but it did not ask me for screen shots so I thought I’d post them here. Is there a more appropriate place for a thorough report?

This player’s account is: allpowerfullone.8462

Seriously, the GMs need to read how abusive this is as it is a perfect example of what is wrong with the party kicking system. He prompts a kick and then someone seconds it for no reason and pay attention to how disrespectful this player is. More proof that it is more often the kicker, that should be kicked. Not the kickee.

Can I get some kitten justice on this for once? Or is a-net ok with this type of behavior?
Look how confident this guy is that arena-net will not do anything to him.

Did he kick you from the party or did he just leave the party, causing the rest of the party to be kicked out of the instance (since he was the instance owner)? I’m curious because if you were kicked, how come Ozz the Powerful was talking to you on Party chat after the kick?

I find that strange too, I was under the impression party chat is erased after being kicked so that no traces of evidence are left and thus you would not be able to defend yourself.

Yeah it looks like the instance starter left the group leaving 2 people commenting about it in party aside from the poster.

So technically its not a “kicking abuse”. What he said on private messaging might be on the bad side/offensive but leaving a party is totally okay even if you started the instance.

Which is another issue really. If the opener leaves for any reason; disconnect, having to go or simply wanting to leave the group, it should not affect the other 4 people in the party. The only logical reason I see is so no-one can open dungeons for a group where all 5 people haven’t done Storymode (how common is that?)

Would you even WANT a new class/race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

I’d like new classes and races if it’s done well since over-all it means more content, another shot at falling in love with a class and oppertunities for a game to develop (such as race-change kits/personal story re-writers which some players have wanted, more cultural weapons/armor and who knows what else.)

How-ever I feel it’s a risky way to go. It will require a lot of development, balancing, (re)designing and who knows what other changes. When in return the gaming-community will be entertained for a few months at the most before we’re in the same-old situation of wanting more. Something I fear is just as easily satisfied with more Living Story, more WvW tournements and better done with a new sPvP-mode or new zones along-side with the Living Story.

Like mentioned above, Focus is the key for Fractals.

Focus allows for more survivability (Obsidian Flesh and Swirling Winds mainly, but Magnetic Wave and Gale can be life-safers) and a slightly longer Firefield than /D allowing more dodging without losing precious Might(/Fury) stacks. Only downside is that /D has a bigger Firefield in case of moving targets. S/F has amazing might-stacking potentional with a slightly lower damage possibilities than D/F, D/F has less Might, but a bit more DPS.

Another possibility is going Staff, your DPS will be high, you’ll permanently provide Firefields to your team and it’s incredibly easy rotation-wise, neither does it require as much close-positioning (damage-loss when you move out of 600 range, but can be done if you need a breather,) making this an incredibly easy build to learn mechanics even better. But I feel this build lacks a bit in non-orginized teams, likely since Swirling Winds have saved my life and my teams too often.

For more information on the builds I recommend this guide:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-DPS-Elementalist-for-PvE/first
It’s aimed at organized teams more than anything, but you can likely find a build fitting your needs in there and the writer is way more experienced and capable of providing information than I am.

Effective health?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Health is the amount of HP you’d have without being downscaled. I’m not much of a theory-crafter, I only compare so I can’t give you more than a quote on Effective health:

Quote from: http://gw2buildcraft.com/articles/calculator-faq/#quick-reference
“Effective Health
Effective health tells you how much direct damage meant for a 1836 armor character you can take before going into the downed state. Unlike effective power, effective health gives an exact comparison for all professions.

Let’s take Giganticus Lupicus as an example. Suppose one hit from Lupicus reduces the health of a 1836-armor character by 10000 (make-up number). So if your character has an effective health of 21000, that means it’ll take 3 hits for Lupicus to down you from full health. The first hit reduces your effective health to 11000, the second to 1000, and the third hit puts you in the down state."

Returning Player Seeks Class Help

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

First of all, you will need a different build for PvE and WvW if you want to be effective. This often includes both gear and traits, so don’t shelf your Thief too easily.

1. Every class can make a decent roamer, you do need to build for it. Though Mesmers and Thiefs are pretty dominant atm due to their stealth options, which makes them tough to deal with for most people and PU-Mesmer is a very forgiving spec. Conditionbunkers are also pretty dominant and will stay that way after the April update.

2. Current favour of the month in PuGs: Warrior, Guardian, Mesmer, Elementalist. Warriors are your safest bet in how desireable they are, but since you think you won’t enjoy them Guardian is likely your second-safest bet, or Elementalist, especially if you think of joining a serious Speedclearing group rather than Pugging (in which your Thief would be quite favourable as well.)

I play Elementalist the most out of my 8 toons and currently the D/D (0/10/0/30/30) build does the job in Roaming for me, but I think the Ferocity-update will be a nail in the coffin for that build, it’s decent atm, not great, not bad. For PvE I never struggle to get a group, but I doubt I would on any class, most parties forming aren’t too picky on classes, though some are.

New player looking for Class

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Esmee.1067

Esmee.1067

Welcome to GW2!

For race I’d go what you think you’d enjoy looking at the most. The differences between races are very minimal. The difference (besides aesthetics) are Racial Skills, generally considered inferior to anything the classes have available.

As for class, in open-world (leveling) everything is quite do-able, the only classes I’d set aside for later in that aspect are Elementalist and Mesmer. Mesmer starts of as a fairly weak leveling character, (little, more difficult to land AoE, relatively squishy, build-up on damage) along with getting used to a game this can put a lot of people off. Elementalist is extremely squishy (low HP, low Armor) and dances between 4 attunements which once again gives you a lot to take in at once.

Thiefs are often considered extremely squishy, but the thing is, they can keep up blind permanently (pistol 5) or just dodge-whilst-damaging (dagger/dagger 3) which is perfectly viable whilst leveling, aswell as decent kite options. Engineer has a similar mechanic as Elementalist with juggling skillbars due to their kits, difference is that Elementalist have to wait much longer if they accidently swapped. Slightly less squishy aswell.

Warrior, Guardian, Ranger and Necromancer are the safest options, though Guardian and Ranger get a bit more difficult in teamplay (Most of the Guardians survivability comes from Aegis/Blinds/Condi remove/Reflects which affect your group aswell, meaning you will feel squishier in teamplay. Some Rangers struggle maintaining their pets so they don’t aggro everything.)
