Ascendant is the title you get at or after rank 80. It is also like 20 points in HoM from GW1. That means at rank 1 people can be an “Ascendant”. That should probably be fixed.

If this is removed then what happens when the match starts and you happen to have the wrong amulet equipped because you just switched your build? Are you stuck with a worthless char or should you be allowed to switch to an alt that has his build already set up? The obvious answer would be to say, “Just be prepared.” However, accidents happen and my builds differ greatly if I am solo queuing or if I am playing with a team. I imagine this is a similar case for others too.

Moa: 19:83
Bear: 31:64
Pig: 19:83
Wolf: 16:41
Drake: 20ish
Devourer: 23:40
Spider: 29:12

Feline: 14:60

Keep in mind though that hounds have the knockdown and so do porcine pets. Also, ranged pets are never as good unless you have someone else tanking because they will just die (spiders) or spend time running away (devourers).

Note: I do not know what my build was but i think i was completely untraited and had no amulet.

If you have zerk gear you will destroy. 1500 rng + arrow piercing is nice.

If you want more dmg then use sig of beastmaster with sig of wild. Yhe dmg increase in unbeleivable but the CD is long.

Loving the # 1 self-declared Ranger. Slight problem though. You’ve traited into condition damage yet are putting that 300 extra damage points do waste. Using a shaman amulet would be a much better build especially against more than 1 target. I enjoyed the laugh though. Double raven is also not a great idea as the white raven has lower stats.

You can’t interact with objects while using Sig of Wild form. But you greatly increase your damage.

Have to be in combat. Since we can swap pets at will outside of combat at it resets their CDs rangers were stacking infinite amounts of buffs on themselves.

Anti thief = skills that channel because they hit through invisibility. GS is nice because you can hold the block and stop them mid heartseaker then stun them. Those are my methods.

Axe/torch gives you more burning dmg and if you are running carrion gear that will be a lot more dmg to a lot more targets than warhorn.

I’m lvl 80 ranger. Rank 33 in pvp. I believe i have tried every combo in the book. Although it is difficult to get the right specs in WvW, which is probably why most builds don’t work, it is possible to run a strong Spirit build, trap build, pet build, sig build, and even a combo of the 3. A personal favorite: fire trap, sun spirit, sig of renewal.

I have actually used very similar ranger builds. They do work pretty well. However, I never used them long enough to become intimate with the skills to get a feel for the full potential of the build.

This definitely does happen. I am not sure why either. I sometimes use an axe in my main hand as a ranger and I have had it bounce between guardians and the cap point and back to the guardian many times. Since I’m usually the one attacking with bouncing projectiles I don’t mine. However, it is a bug and should be fixed.

Take fire for sure the 600+ tick damage is too good. If you are able to evade well enough take poison because the anti healing to kill bunkers is very handy and a lot of ranger attacks already cause bleeding anyway.

It’s frustrating. Just comparing rangers with elementalists, you see that they can outdamage us, outlive us, and outheal us. And don’t even make me start about guardians.

And yet in a 1v1 situation against a ranger they get taken down fast. I’ve yet to be killed by a elementalist in a 1v1 fight…

About time someone posted this. I should have weeks ago… I now use a variation of this build and a lot can be done with variation. Don’t be afraid to innovate! Eventually you’ll come out with something perfect for your play style.

Except I do run it and win with it consistently. To each their own I guess. I’ve just found myself to be much more successful in group fights and 1v1s with a build that doesn’t burst them down or condition them to death but simply outlast them.

Also, those “attrocious cooldowns” aren’t so bad when you consider that many fights last upwards of 3+ minutes. It translates to basically 3-4 “second chances” of sorts over the the course of a 1v1 and gives more than enough time for teammates to reinforce you if you’re outnumbered.

You got some balls man. I have the same thought, “outlast = win”. But that build has no survivability compared to the ones I run. You have almost no toughness, vitality, or healing power traited (maybe your amulet does). I’d love to see it in action.

So Bunker Ranger is the only Way to sucess?

I want to play with Bows but! my Arrows get 90% obstruced, missed or something else they dont land a hit on my Target!

Go to WvW and u will see how bad Bows are and Pets are useless

Maybe Bunker is a good choice for us and whats about the Rest?

Lol, I don’t even know what to say…
1. I play in tournaments (paids too).
2. Glass cannon: Try traiting entirely into precision and your pet. Use muddy terrain for immo when your pet is close and then use quickening zephyr. The immo + your pets kd + longbow knockback is enough time to shred through anyone. The extra healing power is also very nice too have.
3. Ranger is one of the best bunker in the game. Way more DPS than a guardian can dish out. Only weakness is burst warrior which can easily be dodges or stun broken.
4. Ranger is great PvP. Seriously, if you want me to fight anyone 1 on 1 I can show you. They are 1 of the best burst classes to help out, can attack from hills on foefire and from outside clocktower and still cover the home point easily when needed. If they are being pressured too much they can just send the pet to the midpoint to help out. If they get pressured they can switch pets. Also, the group heal of Spirit of Nature is too good. With double health that thing is too hard to kill.

I don’t know what else to say. I wish I could help you. Ranger is one of the most versatile classes. We got range, we got amazing melee. We got conditions for days. Traps are alright. (Spirits are actually goodish- its funny that in GW1 spirits sucked too). Our signets are decent too (except for the recharges). Not to mention the pet which destroys people.

Not to undermine injecting a bit of positivity into the atmosphere of doom and gloom that seems to have settled over the forum. Because god is that ever needed.

But, while success stories are uplifting, educational and good for the meta; I’m not sure how I feel about using them as a larger indication of where Ranger stands. I know this kind of flies in the face of standard PvP conventions; but the larger concern seems less what the fantastically awesome players can do, and more making sure even average players can have an approachable and satisfying experience. And I just don’t think Ranger’s quite delivering in that department as well as it could be.

Ya I agree. Even in guild wars 1 the ranger was hard to use.

I would do a hound. Either the sylvari wolf or the regular wolf. You either get regeneration to everyone + the knockdown. Or you can get fear on everyone + knockdown. I’d say thats better than a moa. I’d rather not mess with the randomness of the moa 3k heal. Especially in PvP.

Are good mesmers unbeatable 1v1?

No they are not. I play a ranger. I just use a 1 handed sword and stay focused on the real mesmer (which is easy with the auto attack that roots you to the target). If I lose them (like when they blink and summon a clone at their location). I just switch to axe and I am bound to hit them with a bounce until i figure out the real one. With enough condition removal mesmers aren’t hard at all. Then again. I have not lost a 1 on 1 since adjusting the new build (you don’t need to comment on the 1 on 1 part, if you wanna test it out message me in game! I love to duel).

I’d say as long as you know that the mesmer is the one with the boons, the one moving sideways, the one rolling, remember where their health is then the fights are much easier. Getting them dazed or knocked down after a dodge roll is nice too as it prevents them from casting more clones. Turning off enemy names in the options menu is good too. Doesn’t work 100% of the time but most of the time you only see the PLAYER name.

So will you also take the thief improvisation trait and make that not RNG? If a thief can reliably recharge venom. Grant that to allies and get double hits with venom. Then recharge it again! If you thought thieves were OP before…

This isnt a healthy form of randomness or necessary. You actually prove why its NOT necessary with your post.

The engineer can react accordingly to what he gets as well. Either one of the elixir S skills is a great way to kill someone.

This is the kind of situation I’ve been referring to, props for pointing it out. Players who want RNG removed would say that you either need to bring an “anti-bunker” build, or bring another player to kill him (assuming equal skill).

What do you do, then, if you are in a losing situation? It becomes impossible to make that clutch, risky play, where your roaming thief solos their bunker, unless you are literally banking on your opponent making a game-breaking mistake.

Exactly. It seems everyone else is arguing it takes away from player skill. However, if you take away RNG then the bunker becomes invincible. They are skilled too and a roamer (also skilled) won’t be able to beat an equally skilled player without luck. I think that takes away from player skill. Also, if this is about player skill then why not be skilled enough to handle any RNG situation. Oh, the engi turned invisible, better use fear. Oh, the engi got stability better just pound him and hope he dies. If he just gets one or the other I don’t have to adapt and anyone can make the proper move everytime. I would argue that RNG promotes player skill.

Dual axe build

I used offhand axe in pvp for a very long time. I believe the build was 30 power, 30 toughness, 5 for the regen at 75% health, and 5 for pet quickness. I used stone signet, the condition removal signet, and quickening zephyr. The build was really solid for everything. 1 on 1 ones unless they were highly defensive, groups were fine because of whirling defense. Everything just came down to timing though. When they switch weapons or are using any range then whirling defense gives a nice 5 seconds of protection + dmg. This build crushed a lot of rangers, thieves, and engineers. I tried it out in pvp and it works alright. However, a lot of boss attacks can’t be reflected. I would mainly use it for pvp or wvw.

This post got me thinking… ever since I have been able to predict when my conditions will be removed by my signets pretty consistently.

Besides Ens has a good point. If you can’t roll with the punches you aren’t the best.
