Welcome to GW2!

Unfortunately, we are in different regions- you are EU while I’m NA, so I can’t guest to play with you. However, we can still talk, so if you ever have questions, feel free to hit me up in-game (type /tell Falunel in chat or send me a mail) or here on the forums.

How do you set up your gear?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Falunel.7645

Firstly realize that legendaries have the same stats as exotic weapons. This is common knowledge, I think, but it’s always safe to make sure. (Even when one player refused to believe me, insulted me for “spreading false information” when I gave him wiki info and offered to take screencaps for proof, and whined about how Anet was forcing him to get a legendary for the stats when he didn’t want the skin… I’m just going to believe he was a major troll.)

Anyway, to answer the original question- I have two eles, a sylvari and a charr. The charr ele (my first one) has a mix of Soldier and Knight gear with zerker weapons, and is primarily a defensive character. She runs the 0/10/0/30/30 bunker build and is my go-to when I want to solo things that are not meant to be soloed.

My more recent ele, the sylvari, is more or less balanced in gear- her overall leaning towards offense or defense depends on her build, with most of the builds I use on her being offensive. I have her set up as:

Armor: Knight with boon duration runes
Weapons: Soldier, Sigils of Stamina/Energy
Trinkets: Backpiece is currently a rare Berserker piece with a beryl (valkyrie stat) orb, the rest are zerker Ascended pieces with some vitality.

I am considering getting her a full zerker set to play around with, but I may sit on that decision for a few months- if tengu comes out, chances are I’ll make a full zerker tengu ele to complete my trio.

Help in the game for new players? Guilds?

Regardng guilds, give https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/lfguild a try. A few things:

-Put your server, playtimes, and playstyle in the post, as well as whether you’re willing to guest on other servers. I would also recommend that you put your server in the thread title as well.
-Keep in mind that though all guilds will copy/paste recruitment messages to a degree, there will be some that will do so without even reading your post. It’s hard to tell which is which, but if you join a guild and they’re not helpful at all, don’t feel bad about leaving and finding another. There are good guilds out there.

Also, if you ever need a hand with something, feel free to hit me up in-game or here on the forums. I don’t run many dungeons right now due to connectivity issues, but I’ll gladly answer questions to the best of my ability.

All right, I’m going to share more of my experiences here.

I leveled an ele in the early days of GW2, when people had little experience with the class and thought it inferior because of its low health and armor. Common consensus then was that an ele could not solo anything, and its rightful place was at the back of a group with a staff; and even then, eles got told to reroll a guardian or ranger.

I believed them at first. I didn’t even look at my other weapon choices- I went right for staff because I thought it was the “right” weapon for a caster. I put all my trait points in fire because hey, if I’m a backline fighter, why should I care about defending myself? I sat in fire attunement all day hoping to kill stuff before it killed me and also didn’t kite properly, just backpedaling and dodging at the wrong times. I died a lot.

Then one day, I switched over to daggers and decided also to rework my traits by putting points into water and earth. To my great surprise, I found that I not only survived well (I could kill groups of enemies where I previously died to one) but killed much faster. It was freeing, and I decided to see what else I could do. I fought a lot of enemies just for the sake of fighting, and enjoyed it, and learned a little more from each battle. I figured out how to cycle my slows to keep enemies from reaching me and learned to move in battle.

Then, at level 45, I did what people kept saying was impossible for an ele- I soloed a champion. I was wandering around Ebonhawke when I saw the Separatist Leader break out. There wasn’t anyone else around, so I thought, What the heck? It can’t hurt, and maybe I’ll learn something. There were a few rough patches at first, but I killed him. With no help and no deaths.

I’ve had a defiant streak ever since then. Shortly after killing that champion, I killed three more in the same map. In one case (and in many cases after that), I had another class race in to help, only to get flattened in seconds. I decided to learn everything I could and spent time just reading over my skills and thinking of situations I could use them in. A month before daphoenix posted his thread about the infamous bunker D/D ele, I came up with the same build on my own. Later, I soloed AC story, the Champion Nightmare Vine and a horde of silver spiders in TA while the rest of my team was still running back from the waypoint, and many other challenges.

A few months after I reached 80, I decided to try a guardian. Right from the beginning, the class lacked the thrill that ele had, but I stuck with with it, telling myself it was just because I was new to it. I made myself stick with it all the way to 80, telling myself things would get better once I had all of my traits to play with. It didn’t. I got twitchy, felt horribly slow, got bored of leveling and avoided fights I would have chased as an ele. I dropped my guardian once she hit 80 and instead leveled another ele.

The point of that wall of text is not to brag that I’m a godly player- quite the opposite, as I’ve screwed up countless times and still have a lot to learn. Nor is it to say that ele is the best class- it has its limitations, and there are classes who will, while weaker in one category, outperform it in another. The point is to play a class that you love.

You know how people always say to get a job you like, rather than the one that makes the most money? It’s the same principle here, only the playing ground is more even and you don’t have to worry about starving to death. Find the class that inspires you, that makes you want to learn everything you can and try every challenge. Play the class that makes you enjoy tough fights and the game itself. And if there isn’t a class that inspires you, then play a class you just enjoy playing.

If that class happens to be a warrior or guardian rather than an ele, more power to you.

If you play an ele, like it, and then try a guardian, absolutely love it, and decide to switch, more power to you.

If you play an ele and think to yourself, “I like this class, but its damage is a tad too low for me. I think I’ll check out some others,” then more power to you. What matters is that you make the decision, because you want to. Just please, please do not force yourself to play a class you don’t enjoy just because someone else said it was better or easier, and make the game nothing but a rat race to get a bunch of pixels faster than the other person.

I’m writing this post not only for the OP, but for every new player who asks what class they “should” play. When I say the best class is the class that you like best… I essentially mean everything I say in this post, condensed into a single line. I can tell you which classes have the highest damage, which classes are easiest on beginners, which classes excel at such-and-such field… but ultimately, only you can tell what class fits you the best.

I had an elementalist for my second character at launch. She is still 30 due so squishiness.

I thought I’d -never- want to play guardian. I tried it. Omg. Simple but versatile and the opposite of squishy! (not high dps though, but hey, if you outlive the enemy it’s a win even if it takes a tad longer).

Ele actually has survivability on par with a guardian at 80 when built for it- I’ve soloed my share of group events, champions, and TA explorable bosses. The main issue is that they’re hard to play early on without traits, and that a lot of their defenses are active rather than passive.

As previous posters said, the class forums are full of whine and should always be taken with several grains of salt. Kind of surprised they’re whining about damage of all things, since I don’t recall any recent cuts to ele’s DPS, but shouldn’t expect sense in the first place…

Anyway, I main an ele (have done so since three days past launch) and have never had issues with getting a party, bringing down bosses, solo questing, etc. A well-built and well-played ele will bring a lot to a party, be it permanent-fury-and-25-stacks-of-might, lots of defensive boons and healing, or just lots of AoE. They are quite useful in WvW, being able to both roam and support zergs with AoE damage and healing and a variety of combo fields. I haven’t played them much in sPvP, but from what I know, they can hold their own.

Also, regarding ele’s entry difficulty… my personal advice would be to try the classes you want to try first regardless of how hard they are- just don’t get discouraged if you have trouble at first. If it’s too much trouble, you can play another, more forgiving profession as the other posters listed until you get a hang of the game, at which point you can choose to stick with that profession or move back to a harder one. The most important thing is not to get discouraged, and to ultimately play a class you enjoy.

Power leveling in this game

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Falunel.7645

Falunel.7645

If you’re a first-time player, powerleveling via crafting will leave you not only with no WPs, but no knowledge of how to play- you won’t know when and what to dodge, how to avoid damage, what build and weapons feel right, how to combine skills, what utilities to use…. The list goes on and on. In other words, if you are new, please do not level to 80 by crafting alone.

The most well-rounded way to level is simply by doing map exploration, as previous posters said. Leveling in this game is slow at first, but even- it doesn’t take nearly as long as some other games.

How to choose gear PRE-80?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Falunel.7645

Falunel.7645

General gear quality, from worst to best, is:

White- worst
Blue
Green
Yellow
Orange- best

(Not counting pink/Ascended and purple/legendary, which are special cases.)

My general rule of thumb for gearing pre-80 is this:
-If you have trouble surviving, choose defensive pieces.
-If you’re surviving well, slowly start phasing out defensive pieces for balanced or offensive pieces.
-If you have a trait that gives you vigor on critical hits, definitely try to get pieces that give precision and dodge more.
-If you are dungeoning, wear green or better armor at your level, preferably with defensive stats. With open-world, blues are fine.
-Aim to upgrade your armor at least every 10 levels.

The Class of my Dreams!

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Falunel.7645

Falunel.7645

One thing to keep in mind is that no profession will ever play like a typical MMO tank. Kiting is important for every GW2 profession to learn and no character can just stand there and constantly hold mob agrro, esp. by the vets and champs, no matter how you are specc-ed.

Even with tough, melee characters you should be running in and out of the mob’s melee range and you should be trading off the aggro with others. If you are holding all the aggro all the time, you are going to die (and your fellow players aren’t doing their jobs either).

To envision this, I like to bring up the cave troll fight in the Fellowship of the Ring movie. In that fight you don’t just see Gimli (arguably the most “tank-like” of the Fellowship) just standing in front of the troll holding all of its attention and letting himself get repeatedly hit. Gimli outright retreats when he catches a load of troll ‘aggro’ and many of the group take a turn (or several) at getting the troll’s attention including Legolas and even the hobbits.

GW2 comes much closer to emulating this kind of theatrical (and far more interesting) combat than the typical MMO where one tank stands in front of the mob and is expected to keep its attention the entire fight.

If you don’t want to play a ranged elementalist, try a double dagger ele. It’s very fun and you’re right in the middle of the front of the fight. But even moreso than with other profession you have to be ready to tactically pull back and let someone else fill the line to give you a respite.

This post puts things perfectly. I will also second the recommendation regarding a dagger ele (which I main myself). It’s actually an extremely strong melee-range class when you trait it right- it has lots of recovery and damage mitigation.

If you want an example of how the class plays, here’s a video I made to help demonstrate movement in combat to my old guildmates: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMec3mSGPzg

And two other videos to go with it:
-The same fight, but I stand absolutely still instead of moving around and fighting actively. (Spoiler: it doesn’t end well.)
-Avoiding every single attack from a champion simply by running around

They’re all kind of old and I make a lot of mistakes in them, but hopefully it sheds some light on how you would fight, not just as a dagger ele, but as any class. If you’ll be playing later today, I can demonstrate some techniques and explain other mechanics (movement control, combos, boons, etc) in-game if you’d like.

Hmm, if it’s all right, could you explain why you don’t see yourself maining ele? If it’s something like having trouble staying alive, or feeling like some of the skills don’t have a use, there might be advice for that. I had some trouble getting into ele at first, when I didn’t understand everything and kept dying. After sticking with it and playing it for many months, though, everything is second nature to the point that I don’t even notice myself thinking about what skill to use next. I can’t bring myself to play anything else.

On the topic of dying often, is surviving an issue for you? I’ve known people who had trouble getting into a class or the game because they had difficulty staying alive even if they geared completely defensively. Or do you survive all right, but miss the feeling of being a tank?

(Also, I should apologize myself for asking so many things, especially given that I missed your post right above mine.)

In the mean time I had also tried the charr, (this elementalist was a norn) and as the beta finished, I knew exactly what my main would be; charr elementalist.

Yessssss. (To be technical, I now also main a sylvari elementalist, but my charr ele is still my go-to for soloing all the things that are not meant to be soloed and has a special place in my heart.)

Depending on how long you’ve been away from the game give Warrior and Guardian another shot. Also what exactly didn’t you like about Warrior/Guardian? Answering that could help us out, since you can technically melee (in some capacity) as any profession in GW2.

What he said- if you can give us details on what you didn’t like (and things you did like), we can help you pinpoint a class. I should mention also that there is no dedicated tank or healer in GW2, so that might have contributed to a class feeling off.

Correction- server population is determined not by the number of accounts made on a server, but by the number of people currently playing. So if a server is full, then there are a good number of people populating it, but they tend to be concentrated elsewhere,

Two different Anet employees already said that it doesn’t work that way. It is based on the amount of accounts linked to the server.

Could I see these posts, out of curiosity? It contradicts what I’ve and others observed:

-On the busiest travel day of the year, I was watching the server list so my friend could transfer to TC. I saw server populations drop nearly across the board- Very High servers dropped to High, and High servers dropped to Medium. Only two servers stayed at Full, those being Jade Quarry and Tarnished Coast. It doesn’t rule out the possibility of a server cap increase, but with every cap increase, all Full servers drop to Very High and remain that way for several weeks.

-Several posters have said that they have seen Tarnished Coast fluctuate to Very High from Full at specific times of day- either noon or the dead of night. I myself have seen TC drop to Very High at 3 in the morning (again for a friend who wanted to transfer), and rise immediately back to Full in seconds. Since these times correlate with when people work or sleep, the most plausible explanation is that people are simply not playing, leaving vacancies on the server.

It doesn’t rule out other factors, but it’s just strange.

Correction- server population is determined not by the number of accounts made on a server, but by the number of people currently playing. So if a server is full, then there are a good number of people populating it, but they tend to be concentrated elsewhere, namely:

-Lion’s Arch, the main city
-Fractals/Dungeons
-Migrating to zones with meta events as they come up
-Labyrinthine Cliffs (the new zone, and the location of a lot of Living Story events and activities)
-Aforementioned Living Story activities
-sPvP/World versus World

The people who are out exploring the other open-world zones tend to congregate on certain servers via guesting (which allows you to play PvE content on other servers with no limit). Most people, from what I see, head to Tarnished Coast for that.

Falunel.7645

Welcome back!

I have played every class to some extent, and I find them all fun. It’s pretty much a matter of personal taste.

Guardian is primarily a group class, so it may feel lacking solo. In groups, though, they provide great support. Thief is more of a solo, damage-oriented class. I’d recommend you to try any class that catches your fancy, but if you want:

-A strong solo class: Elementalist. Though they’re frail at first, in endgame, they’re one of the more independent classes. They have the lowest base health pool and base armor, but also perhaps the best self-recovery abilities, and are capable of soloing many group enemies when played and built right. Ele requires you to switch attunements rapidly and adjust quickly to situations to survive, so it’s a fast class with lots of button presses and memorization, and a steep learning curve.

-A strong damage class: Warrior. Warriors have the highest damage of the classes when geared and played right, and therefore are in high demand for speedruns. They start out newcomer-friendly due to their high armor and health, and can plow through most open-world content, but in more challenging content in later levels, they require good dodging skills due to their poorer self-recovery abilities.

Those would be my suggestions, but again, try any class that catches your fancy.

Server population is dependent upon the number of people currently playing. If you check in during off-hours, there’s a chance the server will drop to Very High.

The chance is rather low, though, so if your friends want to play in the meantime, you can still play together through guesting. With guesting, all content should be available except World versus World and guild upgrades (if your guild is not based on your home server), as long as you’re all playing on NA.

Anet does raise server caps periodically, but it may be a while until the next.

Is elementalist healing worth it?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Falunel.7645

Falunel.7645

first priority should always be damage mitigation before healing. 100% protection uptime in your group really go a long way. blinds, reflects and debuffs on enemies as well. only then go after heals if it really is necessary.
the amount of healing necessary to increase your base healing by 33% is absurd compared to the little effort it takes to keep protection up (ie auramancer ele with a few boon/protection duration runes, or simple hammer guardian with a few symbol-traits if necessary).
and while your auramancer can still basically be a zerker who actually helps the others by killing stuff faster, a pure healing ele will be dead weight.

if you really want to support your team, give them boons and remove their conditions. don’t go full healing, go full support if you really must. your heals are still appreciated but endless fury and either constant 15-25 stacks of might or fulltime protection as well as the occasional regeneration, blinds on enemies etc are A LOT more useful. and if you go after boon duration, you can still do damage and be an active part of your group.

Yes, pretty much this, coming from both a longtime ele player and a critic of the “zerker or get out” mindset. You do not have to be a healer to support, and in the case of GW2, it’s much more effective to be a non-healing focused supporter than a pure healer.

As a general rule of thumb, you cannot heal enough to save a bad player, and a good player will usually not need your heals. There will be pinches where a heal will keep an ally a tooth’s skin from death, but those pinches tend to be too few and far between to make being a pure healer worth it, especially if you invest into damage mitigation instead.

Do not play ele by equipping a staff, sitting in water attunement, and standing in the back while occasionally using skill 3 or 5. You will kitten your potential severely, and I say that from experience. Instead, focus on using skills like Frozen Ground (staff water skill 4), Static Field (staff air 5), Ring of Earth (dagger earth 2), or any other movement-controlling skill to slow down enemies when you see them chasing a teammate. If an enemy is charging an attack, use a stun or a knockdown to interrupt them. Trait to provide boons like fury, might, and protection, either through the group auramancer build or just an Arcana-heavy build that provides boons on attunement. Put ten points in water and you can strip conditions off nearby allies whenever you attune to water. Equip a focus and you can block projectiles with air 4. Those are all ways you can support a group without being a healer.

Granted, there’s nothing wrong with tossing out some heals here and there. Just don’t make it your main focus.

How long have you been playing your warrior in PvE? The truth is that if you haven’t been playing your class that long, you will always get stomped by people who have been playing longer and taking the time to research and tinker with their class. Playing more is the only way to solve that particular issue, along with, as earlier posters said, researching builds and watching experienced players.

Also, if you have the time, playing other classes helps a lot- it teaches you their mechanics and attacks, and from there you get a sense of how to counter them, or at least what attack patterns players tend to fall into.

I’m working on a website for new players, but before that, I want to add my name here. If you ever have any question about the game, just PM me (type “/tell Falunel” in chat without the quotation marks) or send me a mail, and if I’m not busy or afk I will do all I can to help you. Even if I am busy, I will try to reply telling you that I am, but that I will get back with you the moment I’m free- if you don’t get a followup or any sort of reply, by all means message me again. If you’re very new and the spam prevention system keeps you from messaging me in-game, send me a PM on these forums. I check my inbox here every day and will always reply.

I play on the Tarnished Coast server and will gladly run with you if you’re on the same server, as long as my guild isn’t asking anything from me. If you’re not on Tarnished Coast, there’s unfortunately no guarantee I’ll always be able to play with you, given I can only guest on two servers a day- however, you are always welcome to guest to the Coast yourself. And no matter what server you’re from, I will answer your questions.

My main is a charr elementalist, who I’ve played since launch- I am currently working on another elementalist, and sometimes play my ranger/mesmer/guardian alts. I know a little about every class, having tried them all at some point and ran with skilled players, but my specialty is elementalist. Though I’ll give no guarantee that the way I prefer to play my ele is the same as your preferred style (I don’t use staff much, for instance), and I won’t give you a specific build if you ask for one, as I believe the best way to find a good build is to tinker and experiment rather than copy another’s.

Again, this is all free of charge. There will be cases I can’t help, but I will do what I can. As Hayashi said, you lose nothing by asking.

Welcome to Tyria.

Hello, and welcome to GW2. I’d like to mention that it’s possible to play on other servers on the same region using guesting, so you would be able to play with a guild on another server as long as they’re NA.

Guesting has only the following restrictions:
-You cannot access World versus World for the server you are guesting on. However, all PvE content is open to you.
-You cannot use guild upgrades unless your guild is based on your home server. You can still participate in and get rewards for guild missions.
-Every time you enter the character selection screen, you must choose to reguest.
-You may only guest on two servers every 24 hours.

Getting 60 Champions Problem

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Falunel.7645

Falunel.7645

Some world bosses are Legendary or Epic rank, so they won’t count.

If you want champions, my best advice is to hang out in Queensdale and watch for people calling them out. There are 6 champions:

-Champion Wasp Queen in the woods near the Hunting Lodge
-Champion Boar, same place
-Champion Forest Spider, on the hill south of the Hunting Lodge. This one doesn’t have an event attached to it, which can be a good thing (isn’t zerged down ASAP) or a bad thing (you have to solo it).
-Champion Cave Troll, near Vale Waypoint
-Champion Bandit Lieutenant, in the bandit caves near the vista
-Champion Rotting Oakheart, west of Phinney Waypoint

Boar, Wasp, Spider, and Troll seem to come up fairly frequently, about every ten minutes or so. If you head south to Kessex, the boss at the end of the Battle of Fort Salma chain is a champion and the chain cycles fairly frequently.

Map completion in Orr

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Falunel.7645

Falunel.7645

Orr is in part a group zone. In order for the temples to be accessible, their meta events have to be successfully completed, which requires a good number of people and coordination.

You can grab the skill point solo (harder for less tanky characters) or with a few friends, but you have to be careful where you proceed. The Veteran Acolytes summon more Risen, so kill them first and try not to aggro others. Sneak around the edge of the altar. If you have invulnerabilities, you can use them while you commune with the SP.

Profession choosing and leveling

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Falunel.7645

Falunel.7645

Basically I’m pretty much stuck between Ele and Warrior right now.

Warrior has what I love (not having to pay attention, easily survivability) but the Ele has lightning.

Can Ele solo things easy without worrying about dodging or anything?

Also how does one level with crafting, just buy mats, go some place, click something over and over and over again?

If what you’re looking for is not having to pay attention to the enemy or dodge, you will not find any profession that allows you to do that outside of lower-zone open world fights.

Both warrior and ele are the poorest professions for that gameplay style-

Warrior: can pull off standing and attacking in open world fairly well up until Orr, where you might be able to kill one lone enemy before it kills you, but if you’re soloing an event or even just run into a veteran or a clump of enemies, you HAVE to dodge and move. In dungeons that aren’t blatant easy (CoF 1 and such), dodging is incredibly important for warrior, as your recovery/defensive abilities are lower than other classes’ once the enemy chews through your HP.

Elementalist: You can spec an ele to be incredibly tanky, as much as a warrior or guardian. The difference, though, is that your survivability lies in evasion, frequent burst healing, constant condition removal, boons, and well-timed invulnerabilities. If you charge into a battle without paying attention, you can still die in a blink.

The class that can survive the best without moving frequently would be guardian, I feel, likely with a hammer. Even then, you must learn how to dodge and circlestrafe if you plan on doing dungeons/PvP.

Most people will buy it for the animations and neat fx. Who cares about cost effective.

And yeah..the tree should blow up in a storm of splinters after the swing instead of just falling over. That’d be swell.

That would be awesome yet impractical, considering it’s rather hard to make functional armor/weapons/things out of splinters and a stump.

Then again, it’s probably hard to gather ore that’s been melted by a mini-volcano, and I doubt the plants you gather would be in appealing shape after you’d played Teeless Golf with them.

I personally would recommend transferring if you want to be on a busier server, as yeah, it’ll be harder to later on. You’ll be able to start playing right away- there’s no waiting period to delete or make a character. If you put items that aren’t bound to your character in your bank, you’ll be able to withdraw them after you remake your character, so you don’t need to wait for your friend.

Also for reference, the banks are located in every major city. Look for a golden coin with a bag symbol on it on your map.

When you delete all of your characters, the game essentially thinks you’re a brand new account, and opens the option to transfer. I’m not sure if you have to relog for it to pop up, but it’s been confirmed by an ArenaNet employee that this is intentional. Also, if you put any unbound items you have in the bank before deleting and transferring, they will still be there when you make a new character.

Yeah, the main advantage of paying to transfer is that you keep all of your characters. Therefore, it’s easiest to transfer-via-deletion early on, before your characters are leveled much. The game will keep track of your character names after you delete them and reserve them for you for 24 hours, so you can remake your characters easily.

I haven’t played warrior much, though my best friend mains one- I primarily play elementalist and have dabbled in guardian and mesmer. If you decide to try any of them (mainly ele, though), I’ll be glad to give you pointers.

Wishing you the best of luck. Friends do make the game a lot better.

Hello, Rachypoo, and welcome!

I unfortunately play on Tarnished Coast, which is a NA server- thus I am unable to play with you. However, you are able to talk to anyone from any server. You are also able to run dungeons with anyone on a server in the same region (EU or NA) as you, and you can play on any server in the same region by “guesting” over.

There are four main restrictions to guesting:
-You cannot access World versus World for the server you are guesting on. However, all PvE content is open to you.
-You cannot use guild upgrades unless your guild is based on your home server.
-Every time you enter the character selection screen, you must choose to reguest.
-You may only guest on two servers every 24 hours.

So if you’re ever feeling lonely on your server, you can guest to another in the same region. Alternately, if you delete all of your characters, you will be able to transfer to any server in any region for free.

I may not be able to play directly with you, but if you ever have any questions, you are free to mail or PM me in-game (type “/tell Falunel” without quotation marks in chat to PM me) or send me a message on these forums. Happy gaming!

EDIT: Regarding crafting, you are not required to do it, nor is it the best way to gear yourself- however, it does give a good amount of experience. It is up to you. Also, you can change your crafts at any time for a low fee by talking to a craft master.

You do not need to pay to transfer. If you delete all of your characters, you will be able to transfer servers for free. Hopefully this finds you before you spend anything.

Also, you are able to “guest” on other servers in your region for PvE. In other words, you can freely play on any server in the EU region as a guest, with no restrictions except for the following:

-You will not be able to access WvW for a guest server.
-You cannot use guild upgrades if your guild’s home server is different than yours. (You will still be able to participate in and get rewards for guild missions, however.)
-Every time you access the character selection screen, you must reguest.
-You may only guest on two worlds every 24 hours.

You can also party, message, and send mail to players in different servers and regions. However, you can only run dungeons with people in the same region. (I lied earlier when I said I could guest to you, since Tarnished Coast is a NA server- I misread Blacktide as Blackgate.)

Welcome!

My tip for you would be, don’t roll or create a Ranger…

My tip is not to listen to posts like these. Try out the classes for yourself and play the one you find most fun.

For servers… you can guest on any server in the same region for PvE. Your server choice will mainly affect being able to access guild upgrades and WvW.

I play on Tarnished Coast and it’s a very nice server- always see people around in all the zones I go to and most players I meet are friendly.

Thief or Elementalist?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Falunel.7645

Falunel.7645

If you don’t enjoy attunement hopping, don’t play ele unless you plan on being a full glass lightning hammer build for PvE. Even that will take a lot of experience, as your survival will be completely dependent on how well you can evade, and you will primarily be a group player, as your damage will be partly dependent upon others.

Thief has good survivability later on, but that survivability is dependent on how skilled you are at avoiding damage and timing stealth/teleports. Don’t get discouraged if you have trouble early on, as it’s a difficult class and you don’t have your traits in yet.

The zerker vs. non-zerker in PvE debate is honestly very complicated, moreso than either side would have you believe. I originally wrote a very long post detailing the situations in which zerker is useful and the situations in which balanced/bunker is useful, but it doesn’t answer the OP’s question, nor will it convince anyone on either side.

Soooo. I’ll just state my personal policy: I don’t care what people play as long as they enjoy themselves and have a good attitude. If someone objects, I shall gladly tell them to go eat a litter of kittens and wash them down with the mother cat’s tears.

To the OP: it depends heavily upon your class and your build as well as your skill level. Certain classes can get away with lower HP depending on how well they can evade/recover. I’ve been able to do Arah explorable, level 20+ Fractals, and AC story and group events solo with 14-15k HP, but that’s as an ele built heavily for recovery and evasion with good knowledge of the dungeons.

Heaviest damage? I vaguely recall a boss spiking someone for 18k in two hits (9k per hit), as well as another hitting for 14k in one hit, but I don’t recall what build that person was nor which bosses they were.
