There is “some” polish.

Also I’ve never heard anyone say “I’ve worked for several large companies in areas of restructuring” which is usually a nice word for firing people.. (See Ncsoft-Seattle)

Pepole just need to stop being so bloody sensitive and pc,there are more impornant things to worry about!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever heard of “the broken windows” theory of policing? Basically it states that when small matters, such as people breaking other people’s windows are not taken care of by society or by law enforcement, it’s a signal to people that they can behave as they wish with no repercussions. By addressing small matters, it keeps larger matters from developing. This is part of what ANet is doing by banning abusive language and profanity.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_windows_theory

Do you ever read the official forum on WoW? People complaining how chat is filled with anal jokes, racist remarks, anti homosexual comments, profanity, etc…. People complain that they report people for making really nasty chat and nothing happens. Apparently Blizzard only hands out very mild sanctions which these people ignore. Maybe you don’t mind paying in a game where this is common in chat, but a lot of others do.

The problem with a “kitten” is that it grows up and becomes a “cat”. People using profanity in chat, it starts up as a small problem and and ends up a large one.

This part needs to be stickied somewhere for epic factor :P

An option to disable right click targeting

in Suggestions

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

This is very annoying. I came back after few weeks away to play some dungeons and relax but this right click selection in the middle of the combat when I just want to move the camera is so annoying I gave up after 2 dungeons.

It just ruins the gameplay. I think I’m not coming back until I see in patch notes that this has been fixed. Just a simple tick in options to disable selection with right click would do.

I really don’t understand how this is not a top priority issue to developers. I thought they played the game.

Maybe because not everyone has this problem. I never even noticed this was a problem for people until this thread. And there are far more important things to be working on right now. If the right click button is a reason for someone to leave a game, then they probably don’t belong here anyway.

Regardless, the next installment of SAB is “several months” away so there’s still going to be a dry spell where you cannot obtain any of the skins at all beyond what is in the TP.

You won’t be able to obtain these specific skins again at all, ever, says Josh.

Check my post above, which I think was also from him.

Sweet. You should give Josh and Anet rights to use that in future SAB updates. It would make great boss fight music

While dubstep is close to 8-bit music I don’t think it would fit the SAB :P

I was thinking there could be an exception to that for a bonus stage. Also, the second half isn’t that dubstep-y. I suppose you’re still right though. XD

After doing this one, it makes me want to make more for the other stages and other dungeons/events lol

If so shouldn’t it also really heat up when I play bf3 on max with 64 players on really large maps, not to mention crysis 3 on ultra? It only really heats up with gw2. Then I go into driver has stopped then reinitializes. Only happens in gw2 as well

+1 I’m running an i7 clocked at 4.0Ghz with 2 gtx 570s on sli and they overheat? Wth. I played Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3 all maxed out and stayed at 45-60fps cruising at a stable 50deg. cent.

I suggest we keep bumping this til the devs pay attention.

Could be your case setup, or cooling problem. SLI in a case where two cards are but inches apart can bring in a lot of heat. My 2x 450’s would get to 70c+ when playing Aion, it would start juting higher if I ran 2.. Granted my room temp is pretty high. So I switched to 650 and now it is fine. I literally could not fit my finger between the two cards, so sometimes it is just design that hampers you. I can run AIon and GW2 at the same time now with no problem. I can also run Aion x2 with no problem, although it is a very greedy game PC wise, and money wise… but that’s for a different forum. Liquid cooling is great but case structure and ambient temp are very important factors. As well as cleaning and storage of course.

Not necessarily. Different games don’t always run the same, in fact the engines are quite different. Cards can be incompatible or not efficient for 10 games you play, but work fine for 3 or even 300 others. Also SP/Co Op games do not draw as much power and resources as an MMO. After all, 64 players is definitely not 600. Aion was pretty terrible with this with my old comp, 2000 people in the abyss (map) all attacking at once. My comp would bog down like I dumped jello in my case. But this computer handles it much better. So it is all on how the engine works, your cards performance with various settings etc. If you haven’t seen it yet, Nvidia has the beta “Experience” application which helps people (not saying you need it) by adjusting performance. I believe BF3 and Crysis 3 are in there. But gw2 is not, so i assume that there is a lot of discrepancies between how cards handle various aspects of games. Which is why a low end could have less problems than some mid range. I’m no expert, just from experience I believe this could be part of the problem.

I run everything on high with 1920 by 1200 resolution and I get between 45 and 60 FPS. I am running a pretty solid system for those stats: i5 2500k and a foot long radeon board (I think it’s the hd 6770 but I’d have to double check to be sure and I’m currently afk).

and you’re saying 45fps is the minimum you’re achieving with a below mid range gpu when others with a 680 play at 15fps in wvw zergs?

There could be problems with certain cards that are even above the suggested ratings. For instance when I check my compatibility with GW2 and my 650, Nvidia says it is not as good as the suggested card. Which somehow is a 560.. Or this could just be a Nvidia marketing ploy :P Either way, like I said different cards, even those above others could have issues. I run 1920×1080 on a 32in HD Smart tv.

Wife has a geforce 9500gt, and runs the game fine. The computer itself is slow, but the game runs ok and gets decent FPS. And yet I see people with highest end cards having issues. So there is something there. She runs 1920×1080 as well.

This has happened to me, playing with English speaking players. I am Spanish-English bilingual. I do not understand why them being/speaking Spanish has anything to do with it. fotm veterans are like kittens. They like it the way they like it. And they will not accept playing it any other way. They do not have patience for players who are learning and do not care about dropping, if that saves them 5 minutes.

The forum just transformed the abbreviation of national socialist into kittens. That is either censorship overkill or wishful thinking.

It has been proven that seeing kittens can calm most people and even make them happy. Therefore, turning all the national socialist into kittens could create a better world.

I am not ok with another person using their moral compass to decide if what I said was acceptable for table talk

I don’t care if some random stranger saw that as offensive.

You see the problem here?

I know I said bad words in the presence of absolutely too many people.

Guessing you are talking about /map instead of /say right? And in Lion’s Arch?

What would reduce the 72 hour suspension by 100% would be people following the rules.

And that is problem solved.

And FYI, the profanity filter can pick up A LOT of words that aren’t profanity, specially if they’re in a foreign language, for example, you know in Albania the word for car is the same word used for “gentleman sausage”?
This happens between pretty much every language on the planet, normal words in one is a curse in another, and its really annoying when the filter kicks in, so people that turn it off aren’t exactly doing it so to hunt you down, nor are they violating any rules.

It was in /say in Heart of the Mists. Also I fail to see what my own personal opinion on mature language has to do with this matter. Do you not already have a filter on your everyday talk that nerfs your ability to say a massive number of words? I would consider it useful to know every word that could possibly offend someone even if they were speaking another language. Not for use against them, but for the purpose of avoiding them in everyday conversation. No one wants to accidentally make a kitten of themselves in what is supposed to be a casual discussion between two strangers.

“Also I fail to see what my own personal opinion on mature language has to do with this matter. "

Your opinion on what is acceptable does not coincide with Arenanets in game. Also some people remove filter because it unintentional could be blocking parts of chat, especially in different languages. And in order to know every offensive word you would have to be fluent in about 20+ languages, and/or read through around 800 pages of text. I’ve spoken German, Arabic, Spanish, French, and can say if you had to memorize every bad word from one to the other your head would probably explode. Best thing you can do is speak your native language and refrain from vulgarities and slang. If you haven’t noticed, gw2 forums (sometimes..) has more intellectual and well spoken players than in most other MMO’s I’ve ever played. Over in BLTC they are even discussing economics to a great detail. Granted I don’t like econ much, but it is interesting to see.

It’s not at all difficult to avoid those words. We’re doing it right now.

Exactly, and yet here we are in a thread where you got temp banned? Wasn’t that hard was it?

So you are one of the people who are uncomfortable with strong language? I assume you have your profanity filter at maximum. If not then you are a hypocrite who selectively reports mature language at your own discretion. This is the dilemma. That does not change regardless of what your personal guidelines of how a conversation between two adults should transpire.

Actually I care very little about others language in game as it doesn’t affect me. Now if my son is playing he has on the filter, but he only plays if I am watching. But I believe others who are following the rules and are trying to enjoy the game have the right to report those who are interfering with that experience as pertaining to the rules of the game.

I don’t report people unless they severely offend me, which would be for something far more than language.

But I think you are missing the biggest part. You say there is a dilemma, and how two people talk between one another is between them and they can /say what they like. The point you are missing is that it is against the rules to use vulgar language in game.

So the entire idea that one should be able to speak how they want in game is moot, because it is clearly stated what is expected of you in this game. If you do not abide you are punished, there is no further or deeper explanation needed. This is simply how it is if someone wishes to play the game. They can abide, be infected/banned, or leave. That is their choice, but they agreed to the terms when they started. So they are at fault in that respect. There is no discussion as to whether swearing or vulgarity should be acceptable, because there is no fine line, it clearly stated it is not acceptable. And those in charge of monitoring such things and responding will, in their sole discretion, take action against those who do not abide by what they agreed upon when entering the game.

What would reduce the 72 hour suspension by 100% would be people following the rules. Foul language does not equal maturity, nor does it make anyone look more “adult” than anyone else.

The filter is there as a safeguard, it is not a free pass for people to speak foul language of any kind. Much like people who argue that we have free speech and threaten a president who end up in prison. There is some common sense to be had in these situations, I know that is probably a swear word in itself on the internet..

What is the logic behind having a profanity filter if you can remove it and get a 72 hour suspension for being witnessed saying an inappropriate word in the presence of another person who is supposedly not comfortable with mature language? Is that not the definition of hypocrisy? This wasn’t the act of a child purposefully miss-spelling a curse word to get around a forced profanity filter.

Also, this is not about maturity or free speech or common sense. Some people are more comfortable when communicating without restrictions. This game doesn’t stop them from doing that, but other players who opted into that language can punish them severely for speaking that way in earshot.

I believe there is a huge difference between being vulgar and using strong language.

" for being witnessed saying an inappropriate word " You can be reported just as easily if someone sees a sea of – - – - on their screen. Because the chat logs still show that you broke the rules. It doesn’t stop them because it is not Arenanets job, nor could they handle, babysitting the servers for people who did not read or fail to understand the rules of the game. But also, it kind of does stop them, because continued violations will eventually lead to account termination. Thus removing that person and their language and blatant disregard for the games rules from the game.

As for strong language, it is only strong because we have made it so. We have either as a society made words have a negative meaning, or used already known words in a bad way. Today you can easily say the word “carrot” at the top of your lungs. Chances are not many people will be offended. One day someone uses it racially, ethnically, or derogatorily towards someone and it catches on. Next thing you know we have a new swear word or non PC word.

People can speak without ever swearing and communicate things so powerfully that people can be inspired, destroyed emotionally, or torn psychologically. You can take just about any quote from a great president, a writer, a person of power, and see its affect on the world at that given moment. Words can start a war, end a war, bring peace, destroy lives. Words we are bound by to communicate to one another is by far one of our greatest assets as a species. But here in the world of gaming, we are but a guest, inside another world. And in this world we are bound by a different set of rules if we wish to remain there. These things are in place to make sure our gaming world does not directly reflect some of the terrible problems we have in real life. Thus giving people like me, and you, and everyone else the ability to step away from the sometimes troubled world we live in. I would say there’s a chance some people who play could have been harmed by family, strangers, etc. And this type of behavior was something that brought them to the gaming world. Because here there is less toleration for this type of behavior.

I could go on, but it really comes down to one thing. We play on their world, and there is rules in order to do so. We are at the whim of those who made this world, and unlike in real life they DO have full control of what happens in their digital planet. When you clicked accept, when you clicked log in, you agreed to those terms. As does every player since the beginning, and is bound by the same respect.

Does ANet Benefit At All From Gold to Gems?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Well, there is a lot of things going on with that statement. And a lot of things to consider.

1. It is a “sink”, arguably a needed one as far as gems and gold are concerned.
2. It removes gems from the BLTC and then destroys them through purchases.
3. It benefits them in a broader sense that players see it as a positive, and enjoy it while playing the game knowing they have options aside from $ to spend. Players who have cash and players who have gems can buy the same things. This is definitely a benefit for everyone.

I’m no economist, but I’m sure someone, even John Smith, could explain exactly how they benefit and the entire economic impacts that are beneficial. But sadly, I was never very good and macro/micro in college :P

Please change Buy Orders to forbid pricing lower than NPC price...

in Black Lion Trading Co

Geotherma.2395

Prioritizing a bug fix that doesn’t actually affect the TP usage at all over any fix in the game that does affect players would be irresponsible.

At the beginning of the thread you stated that this wasn’t a bug so much as an issue of cleaning up.
I’m guessing that the trading post items are all in some sort of database, and along those lines I’m guessing that the number of orders on the TP can, on a small level, affect the performance of the database when people are performing however many searches they do per minute.
Cleaning up the garbage out of that system would be a step forward in preventing future problems, I would think.

I would imagine most of the unfillable buy orders are by individuals who have not logged into the game in some time. If you knew that you had 5 gold sunk into buy orders that will never be filled, you’d cancel them and get your gold back, right? So the vast majority of these orders are by individuals who are not presently playing the game.

So in order to clean it up Arenanet needs to cancel these orders without the knowledge or permission of the players who made them. While they can do that, it could open a big can of worms should those players return at some point – which is likely to happen in the case of an expansion because the only thing you need to do to start playing the game again is log in.

Also, the money refunded has to be claimed from the BLTC rep, it’s not automatically added to any of your toons cash total or bank. What happens if a crash deletes some or all of these pending refunds? It’s bad enough if current listings get deleted, but try explaining to someone who left the game for three months due to an illness that the 20 gold he had tied up in buy orders is gone because they had to reset the “waiting for pickup” database, when he didn’t actually cancel the orders, Anet did it for him…

TL:DR The issue is a lot more complicated than you think, and as it is now there isn’t a problem except for a few individuals who don’t like to see red text. This is very very low priority on the list of things to fix.

Incoming TOS fix :P

Although I think this is already covered in that several page, scary worded document, they could give players warning vie forums/in game/email, and then purge them. Since we have no rights or claim to items in game anyway.

This engine is still buggy as hell in its hardware detection and usage.
I´m about to do a core hardware upgrade from AMD (PhenomII 965) to Intel(3570k), and if this crappy & buggy performance still persists this game will be dead to me.

Plain and simple.

@HawkMeister.

You might be dissapointed then. I’m running on i73770k, GTX680, SSD,16GB gaming ram. GW2’s performance (all settings on full specs) is still poor IMO because of its engine.

Could you elaborate on “poor”? Like, what exactly do you notice performance wise that causes you to believe you have performance issues? My specs are in my signature, obviously some of us are not the majority as far as our pc’s, but there’s nothing wrong with lower end. Just curious what you categorize as poor.

Also to the others who are comparing GW2 (an MMO) to single player games-stop it. Naught people, just don’t. :P

I would love to see the difference though when PVE no longer has culling. Then we could truly see how much the game takes as far as resources.

on FPS, less populated map avrg 115 frames, higher populated map avrg 75-85 fps and in WvW avrg 25-30 fps (after culling is removed)

additional info:when world boss chest loot is only soulbound, on claw of jormag event, 25-35 fps on avrg

it’s true, can’t compare MMOs with single player games like Skyrim for MMO specification needs to cater to the majority of gamers. However if I use Aion as comparison, Aion’s graphics and FPS is better.

Aions graphics were definitely more complex, and I did get good fps there. But that game is a huge resource hog… I read from wiki I think that GW2’s engine was a highly modified version of gw1. Granted this was probably cheaper, but in the long run they may have decreased the ability to optimize it very much beyond what it is. I mean could you imagine FFXIV using the same setup as FFXI…. But since you played Aion as well you probably remember when they did the hmm.. 2.0? Update or maybe 3.0 where they upped the graphics engine or something? Was that to an entirely different or upgraded engine? Or just a tweak? I ask because I wonder if GW2 could do the same.

And Aion was running on crytek 2 engine which is superior at that time. Yes and they recently moved to 3.0 not long ago and still running on the same engine with optimization on the game.

therefore again IMO, gw2 client is poor in comparison as i get low fps in WvW and events where there are alot of players on my rig’s specs.

So arenanet created its own engine for gw1, and then advanced it for gw2? Sorry for the noobness lol.

The "end-game for the billionth time IS Dynamic Events. Do them or stay gone

Stop quoting marketing fluff and admit that there´s a pretty big elephant in the room.
And it´s called Fractal Dungeons.
That and the current FotM Dungeon to rake up the Gold IS the only “endgame”
(for the non PvP crowd!).
Dynamic Events are only used for the Daily grind.

I´m one of those “smell the pixels” types of players and after 8 months I still only bothered to get one of my 8 characters to 80.
The slots I excitedly bought in the beginning to experience all this game has to offer quickly became parking space for inventory mules.

I could now start into my own epic diatribe as to why, but it´s all been said all too often. And it would take away from the OP´s truly epic one.

I would love if Colin would just say “There is no endgame in GW2, we realized that (end-game) is the problem with mmo’s today. So we introduced living story content, so truly the game never ends, and there is nothing stat wise that you ever need to grind for.”

So that all the people complaining about end-game could just stop complaining and leave..

Why does there have to be an end to the game? Why does there have to be an end rank of gear, items etc? We should be playing the game for the changing content, not to reach the end. This isn’t a console game. People who try and “beat” the game are usually the ones bored and quitting at level 80.

And before people toss that term “progression”, progression does not mean you need to reach the end. It merely means your progressing through the game. Which hopefully the living stories and possible expansions will create.

Everytime I hear end-game, I think of the common argument about the universe. Is it never ending, or does it have an end? People who want an end to every movie, to every game, to everything, probably have some serious trouble even contemplating something could be infinite. But that’s a whole different subject,,.

What FPS are you looking for?

one that isn’t as bad as it has been since beta weekends.

Right now running around LA I get 125 FPS in performance, 30 in appearance, 35 in Auto. Aion seemed much more greedy hardware wise than this. But my wife plays on a Dell from around 2005, and she doesn’t have problems with the game. And that computer is as powerful as a tracfone :P

And the game itself uses about 1.8gb/16gb of ram while I’m running it.

Trinity replaced with Duality?

Hmm I figure it’s more of unity (?? whatever singular form is).

This is because every person does everything, it’s not that you can do any one of all 3, it is that you do all 3. Everyone heals themselves, everyone revives, everyone does damage. It’s all roleless. As many argue, the only worthwhile thing to focus on is damage.

They are working on rewarding those who trait for group healing/buffing as well. So eventually even players who are not glass cannons or DPS builds will get credit for being helpful as well. In trinity games the healer gets credit even if they never attack the mob, in this game we just need to same idea with variables that reward that player for effort under certain instances and through mechanics.

“I am a level 23 went to a area and it jacked me down to a level 17 everything I fight kills me.”

Being higher level does not give you a guaranteed win. the scaling down allows players of any level to enjoy any content anywhere, aside from too high level where you are discouraged from trying to do-ie a level 50 in Orr.

“There is no need to level up really cause its just pulled away from you.”

Even though you are scaled down, your traits stay and your skills stay. So you actually have an advantage if you are higher in a small way, but still can be killed if not playing smart, yes even in a level 5 zone.

JustCurious there is no progresses you level yer butts off in this game work and work to get yer character to a good status and slam he is a weak lil peon without having 2 other people by yer side.

Completely wrong.

I do not think we should be one shotting something No but again if we level up and do all that work it should at least feel like we are getting somewhere when we are not really getting anywhere except getting skills and I got all the skills I can get right now but they do no good when you hit something and yer so weak its like you never did no work leveling up. A level 80 comes into a level 17 area and they are fighting their butts off just to win it should at least feel like they are a bit stronger then just a level 17

A level 80 in a 17 zone would have a much easier time with the mobs as their gear is better than anything available at that level and they have access to higher traits. If your gear is up to date you should be fine and by up to date I mean no more than 4 levels lower than your current level.
If you are keeping your gear up to date and you are still having a hard time try looking at the skills you are using and the traits you have picked, try speccing for more survivability instead of pure damage etc. Do you mind me asking what profession you picked?

He (JustCurious)explained this perfectly.

Loot and EXP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experience

No one can steal your loot, gatherables, or xp. You “earn” your exp by doing damage to the mob.

I solod my personal story till the end “where you need a group for the last part”. I don’t see it as impossible solo, it can be difficult at times but not impossible.

“I am sure they would they have no problems taking forever to level cause someone is getting half of their exp. They have no problems running around with a group of people that will make it harder for them to level up. "

Exactly the opposite of how GW2 works, in fact everything you listed was exactly what this game was made to break away from others..

“They have no problems with people running up and taking loot from them and such. I do cause I am not that far in level and need everything I get right now…”

Again, no one takes your loot… They CAN’T. You will not get loot EVERY mob, but you will get your own loot. AS will everyone else. Please check dev posts and interviews for how the game is designed, as i feel you are greatly confusing gw2 with other MMO’s.

I solo every single day on my thief, who is in the most glass cannon build possible. I rarely die unless I’m typing… And that is in a level 80 zone with tons of mobs.

Lastly, take a good look at all of your gear. Try and refresh it at around level 7 when starting, and then every 10 levels or so. You don’t need the best gear, just try to fill in the holes. Take your time killing, don’t try and brave 10 mobs at once. When you need help you can ask for it, but it seems you like to do things solo, which is fine. I also solo leveled most of the game, I’ve done maybe 6 dungeons EVER, so there is a place for people who solo. Because i make good money, easy leveling, and still find time to be sociable, even if typing gets me killed..

“Parties are not strictly necessary for the open world, but are necessary to join dungeons and other player’s personal story instances. A player can also join a squad which is useful for coordination during large events”

“Each player who participates in killing a monster will have the opportunity to loot the body. Each monster has a damage table and a threshold value of damage done to it by the player before it will give full credit for the kill. This value is about 5% to 10% of the monster’s health.1 The loot dropped is unique to the player, and loot received by one player does not affect what another player receives. One monster may drop the same rare item for multiple players.”

“Players are discouraged from playing in areas that are too far above their current level. Due to how player and enemy stats increase with level, players will find it very difficult to deal significant damage against enemies more than 10 levels above their own. This means they generally will not receive credit for killing foes, preventing them from receiving any drops, and consequently preventing them from receiving any credit for participating in events. In addition, monsters will detect a much lower level player from a much further distance than they would detect an equal level player, and rush to attack them.

The levels of zones, enemies, hearts, and events will be displayed in purple when they are 10 levels or more above your character’s level.
Players can still complete Renown Hearts as long as the heart has non-combat tasks to perform.
Players cannot complete skill challenges; communing and item challenges can not be started.
Players will only deal glancing blows to enemies.
Players will find it very difficult to deal enough damage to receive credit for kills or participation in events.
Players cannot inflict conditions, enemies will display an “Immune” message instead.
Players can inflict control effects.
Players cannot rally off enemies."

Umm… I use gw2lfg a lot. Okay, I lie, 99% of my dungeon runs are gw2lfg. My experience is very different from what OP is describing…

When I join a group, doing some dungeon for the first time, I would usually say:
Hi guys, I have never done this before. Do you guys mind?

And thus far, the responses I have had are:
Neh, tis cool.
Just follow closely.

Even when I have done the dungeon before but I am using a new toon/class that I am not familiar with, I too will declare and usually they will give me some suggestion as to what role should I be playing and some even offer really helpful tips.

Of course, I have never join a group that has announce that they are looking for experience players only or if they are looking for a certain type of class.

Also, I understand that in MMOs, dungeons skipping is part of the dungeon experience, hence I will always try to have swiftness/stability/stun breaker ready when I am running a dungeon for the 1st time. Yes, I will not be optimizing my dps but hey, tis my first run. If they do not start to attack, I wont attack either, I’ll just run with them.

I have seen one player leave in fotm because there were a couple new players who arent familiar with the fractal.

I have seen 1 player who rage quit our party because we were…. skipping, not waiting for him. He was level 80, a Warrior, running AC and he never told any of us he doesnt know the dungeon… he quit in front of the last boss after giving us a piece of his mind… that… is not our fault right… we were willing to share our experience but the new player has to announce that they are new and not initiate anything but follow closely right? No?

While your personal experience may differ, and there’s nothing wrong with that since it is nice to see some helpful players in game, it doesn’t take away from the fact that it still happens. Much like how some people were getting fused tickets on try 1,2,3, whereas others were spending $200 and got nothing. I think we could call that the Human RNG factor :P

Your second part. I really wish there was no need to skip things. I understand players should not be forced to do glitchy, or badly created content. But I think that is on the devs and designers to fix, and it is sad to see that players weren’t able to enjoy the entire dungeon experience that someone spent so long coding and designing. But that is where we are now, and hopefully they will fix this to make it worth running it 100%.

The last part I could say this could be because they have had bad experiences in the past and perhaps felt they would be shunned or ridiculed and thus leaped to anger. Of course I don’t know this person so I could be completely off, but I doubt this never occurs in game.

But it goes both ways I suppose, new players assume that they are dealing with elitists and thus become defensive. Elitists deal with new players who aren’t defensive “yet”, thus having the possibility of making them so. So it seems like an endless cycle, on that I hope in different ways we can change. Too many MMO’s get ruined because of community. The forums may say otherwise- bad mechanics, story, dungeons, options, graphics etc etc. But the truth is most people can live with games that are barely playable in some cases if the community is worth staying for. Look at FFXI.

  1. How is it detrimental to the community spirit of the game to ask players to reference guides established as part of a community effort?

1. Because they have to stop playing the game to do the research. When should a player ever be asked to STOP playing the game to learn how to enjoy it?

  1. Except that if I have to pause the run to explain a fight, we’ve already stopped playing the game. Yes, we’re still looking at the game screen, but all we’re paying attention to is the chat interface. Since I can’t do anything else other than auto-run or auto-attack while typing in the chat box, typing an explanation kills the game anyway.

1. Voice chat.

How many PUG’s have you been in that have voice chat available? We’ve got Ventrilo available in my guild and some guild members don’t even use it — but they want to do dungeons.

I open my mumble server to anyone who wants to use, so long as they are registered. I have no problem with people using it so long as they follow the rules and respect each other. Not everyone does this, but i do my part to help others when I can.

Voice chat is indeed a wonderful thing, and it’s what I use to teach guildies about mechanics. That being said, I thought our conversation was mostly regarding pugs, and I have no intention of giving random pugs my guild’s chat info. . .which leaves us with text or video.

That is true, but from what I’ve seen you, unlike some, understand how to go about suggesting things to those players. I just don’t think it should be a knee jerk reaction for others who clearly do not understand tact.

I dislike temproary content

in Flame and Frost

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

From all the interviews I’ve seen, they seem to mention frequently that story content will come and go. And players may miss out on the “history” of guild wars 2 if they are not playing during those times. I think this is a development style they are doing, and it sort of makes sense because they want the world to be as living and changing as possible. While some things are on a constant repeat timer, I think story they want to unfold and then end so another story can begin.
__________________________________________________________________

“Living World is really a broader concept, it’s the idea that Guild Wars 2 is (and will become more so) a truly living game, where the world can change and constantly evolve going forward.

This will come in a lot of different forms. One example of stuff we’ve done in the past is new events, dungeons, guild missions, etc. being added that constantly expand the range of content and experiences. We want to keep doing more and more of this with our world in the future, to constantly provide new exciting things you can discover and experience any time in Gw2.

Another form of this is through special events, things like Halloween, Hunger Games, or Wintersday where content is available for a period of time, is removed from the game when that period is over, and could appear again in the future in some form to help provide unique and fun experiences in the game world.

Finally, the storyline of this type of content going into the world is really the “living story” in a sense for the game. We want to try and theme our releases with storylines and main characters in the game world that have exciting story arcs, a lot of the permanent new content, special events, etc. will all have these core story arcs that drive them in the game world. Much like the story of Halloween drove around the potential return of the Mad King, storyline for our living world releases will play a big part in the content that appears and changes the world as a result.

We want to make this a much bigger part of where Gw2 goes in the future, to give a sense that the world truly can change constantly as you’re playing and every time you login. What we’ve done with Flame and Frost so far is really a very small example of what we view the living world to be as a future possibility for Gw2. Things more along the lines of Halloween, Lost Shores, and Wintersday are stronger examples, along with the new events, guild missions, etc. we’ve added in releases since launch.

The goal is to provide a unifying storyline to the world that ushers this new content into the game, changes the game, and makes the world feel truly alive. It’s like every month your GM is running new scenarios for your gaming group to enjoy, or your favorite TV show is airing new episodes to experience. We’re really barely scratching the surface of what this concept can be for our game, and we’ll be building much more in that in 2013."

“Our promise to you in 2013 is to continue to build on the world we’ve built, to make it stronger, to refine and strengthen the game based on the core vision of Guild Wars 2, and to make GW2 an experience unlike any other online game.”

“The story arc of Flame and Frost will eventually conclude, and a new arc will begin. At that point, it won’t be possible to revisit the events of the previous story arc, so be sure to see everything by the time Flame and Frost concludes!

Geotherma, I have a question. The video guides were made to be exactly what they claim to be—guides. That is, they are the result of the GW2 community reaching out to help players who haven’t done or struggle with certain dungeons to complete them (or complete them more efficiently). With that in mind, I guess I have three questions:

  1. How is it detrimental to the community spirit of the game to ask players to reference guides established as part of a community effort?
  2. Is it selfish of me to tell a person asking for details about the effect of Precision to type “/wiki precision”?
  3. If the easiest and most efficient way to teach someone is to have them reference materials composed as a community effort, how is it against the spirit of the community to direct them to those materials?

1. Because they have to stop playing the game to do the research. When should a player ever be asked to STOP playing the game to learn how to enjoy it?

2. If you don’t know the answer then no, if you do then you can state a simple answer and do as I do and say “There is also probably more info than I can type in the /wiki about that”. Which is both respectful and has yet to get anyone upset.

3. If you have already done a run with the person at that point I believe it is ok as a friendly tip to link or suggest certain videos that could help them get a more in depth look at the dungeon.

All the things you listed can be done in a respectful and tactful manner, without ever harassing the player.

  2. That still requires them to stop playing the game, does it not? Why is the wiki okay, but videos are not?
  3. What if we’re preparing for, say, a Giganticus Lupicus fight, and it’s their first time in Arah? Do I try to explain in chat and pray that my explanations are clear enough and that they’re getting the right image so they don’t die repeatedly? Or do I give them a better chance at a low repair bill and link them a video so they can see the attacks and the strategies for themselves?

And, to be clear, in each of these situations I would make the suggestion with both tact and respect. At no point does my interaction with other players even remotely approach harassment.

1. Voice chat.
2. After the run, or before for quick reference, not in depth research.
3. Voice chat. And I would say that in an instance where the fight is too complex to explain via voice chat or chat text, then a video link would be an ok final suggestion.

For all situations when communication and efficiency are concerned voice chat would be my recommendation. Most players who are serious enough to want to learn such things as pvp and teamwork at its most efficient level use or have used some voice chat service or another. (I personally don’t like “talking” in a game, but that is entirely a personal thing. I do see its uses but for my own reason I don’t do it.)

When all roads are exhausted then a combination can be used for the appropriate dungeon or circumstance.

In either case, those willing to teach need a way to find those who wish to learn. And those who wish to learn, need a way to reach out for help and be accepted. Forcing someone to look up information and giving up on them (not stating at you) is not what our community needs. If someone does not wish to help and be a positive part of the community then fine, so long as they leave those who are new and learning alone-since clearly they have nothing but harassment to offer.

Going back to my original statements, a LFG tool that had several options could cater to every side, all while being in game.

Title:LFM Arah Story (new players welcome)
Members in party: 3/5

Title:LFM CoF P1. (Speed/exp players please)
Members in party: 2/5

Simple and efficient. More could be added of course, but you get the idea.

Fix the mentality that its ok to harass players-long term goal.
Fix the current LFG/LFP tool-Needed tool

When we remedy those, or at least the majority, the dungeon runners of today-the dungeon runners of tomorrow-and the community of GW2 will be in a much better place.

This part is VERY specific, and definitely not always true. Again, like I stated before and showed in the pic, people have to do research. Because it will not always be like this. So it isn’t really one sided, there are far more examples of both instances being true, so its best to always check if you want to be the most efficient and profitable.

Isn’t it extremely easy to check, though? Can you not just hover over the picture of the item in question to see its vendor value? It seems as if this “research” takes nearly zero effort or time.

Even easier, when you go to sell it, it’ll tell you it can’t be listed for under vendor value anyway. No research involved.

I wouldn’t say “no” research. As you can often see something that looks like you would make more on TP but lack taking into consideration the fees associated. So while “research” may have been the wrong word, perhaps saying “attention to detail” would also work.

The TP will not let you sell an item below projected profit which includes all transaction fees. Meaning you cannot post something at a loss, when it can be vendored for more.

Correct you cannot post for less than vendor. But you CAN post for a loss. If you sell for 1c above NPC you are losing money through fees.

Actually no, you’d be earning one copper. The projected profit INCLUDES ALL fees. The TP doesn’t allow you to list an item that vendors for less than the projected profit.

No you are not. Open your eyes and look. Pick something like Tier 5 gemstones that you can sell to a vendor at 1s10c yet the TP lets you post them at 1s11c. 5c listing fee with a projected profit of 99c (-10% of 1s10c). So that’s an actual profit of 94c Vs 110c.

Edit: Oops, 6 hours late to this argument.

Mega Boss scaling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mini dragons that fly in and hover and attack players. Need to be ranged and have enough health to be formidable but not devastating. Should be at all dragon fights, scaled to players ie 1 mini dragon for a few people 2 for medium etc. Each with interesting skills (not 1 shotting skills..).

Maw: The shaman chief should call a dragon that fly’s in and gusts-knocks back everyone X amount of meters and fly’s away.

Dome champ should have something added since it has no chest. Not sure what here..

SB needs something, perhaps a wave attack that pushes back the entire crowd or knocks down. Swamp forms a giant tidal wave and swoosh, everyone has to run back in and keep attacking :P It should also probably cause a small amount of poison just for affect.

Most zones need a random named champion who just wanders around to random paths. This would create a dynamic boss event at anytime and it could be different named ones, even incorporate story to them. Maybe drop a chest (no bonus), or just special named items that are “cool” but not epic. Bosses who are fun for the sake of being fun. But might wanna make most of them non aggro, as to not kill poor newbies in areas.

Most importantly, bosses who show data of being highly mobbed seriously need at very least more HP. It is a simple and not complex fix, but good until better adjustments can be made. Some people can barely get hits in before some of these die.

Anywho, those are my ideas I thought up in 5 minutes :P

Ha, yeah you’re right, but why would anyone do that? I guess i was confused as to why someone wouldn’t actually look at the vendor value. As your picture clearly shows it take like a second to see. Sorry i was being to liberal with my wording.

:P
I think most do it just because they are in a hurry, click sell/sell, and before they know it they sold to the highest buyer for 1c above the vendor price. I just mentioned this aspect, because I know people who had no idea you could actually do that lol. But like you said it only takes a second to look, and I changed my wording from research to “attention to detail” heh.

I myself have done it a few times… on accident of course, but sold for maybe 1s (to the highest buy order)something that the lowest sell order was like 4/5s lol… And the 1s was just above the vendor price(just as an example).

Actually no, you’d be earning one copper. The projected profit INCLUDES ALL fees. The TP doesn’t allow you to list an item that vendors for less than the projected profit.

I’m not sure if I’m understanding what your saying, could be my fault lol. You can’t sell something for a unit price that is the same price as vendor. You can sell an item for 1c above the vendor price, but will be making less than vendor price.

Ex. You try and sell Apprentice gloves for 29c(same price as vendor), and you get an error “must be higher than vendor price.”

You sell for 30c(1c above vendor price), and you get 27c projected profit. Which is 2c below vendor price of 29c. Hence, selling just above vendor price can actually lose you money even below what you could have gotten from vendor.

“The projected profit INCLUDES ALL fees.

“A non-refundable listing fee of 5% (minimum 1 ); this is paid when you post and is not returned if you remove the order.
A 10% tax on successful sales; this is deducted from the amount available at pickup.
Although both fees are listed in the trading panel, the “projected profit” only deducts the sales tax, i.e. only the 10% sales tax.
For example, if you offer an item for 1s , the panel will show a projected profit of 90c and a listing fee of 5c , which means you will end up with 85c net profit, if and when the item sells."

Yes you are right, you an hover and see the NPC price. The reason I took the pics though was just for comparison. While it is true it takes little effort to find the best savings, often times people are just in a hurry and may be missing the fact they are tossing away money one way or another.

Sweet. You should give Josh and Anet rights to use that in future SAB updates. It would make great boss fight music

While dubstep is close to 8-bit music I don’t think it would fit the SAB :P

I agree it is more than 8 bit music, but I am sure that they could take it and make it so much like the GW2 inro :P

And they have full right to use it for anything they like It can’t be sold anyway heh so it is free use, long as someone gives me a shout out :P

My personal “style” include salvaging precursors and vendoring exotics, but i will never write a guide about it, since it doesnt help new players get money with it.
I will give you few basic tips, as example where do you mistake:
Tip1. Hard leather strap have vendor price of 25c. It always produce 1-3 thick leathers or 1-3 hardened leathers. Last few months, the leather price on TP is the same as the vendor one. Same thing about “rawhide” gear.
Conclusion – it is profitable just to vendor hard leather straps and rawhide gear, than to salvage it or sell to the TP.
Tip2. The TP price of green greatswords lvl 74+ is significantly higher than it vendor price. After you pay the taxes you will still get 2-3s more than if you sell it to the vendor. The GS prices are always above 4s. Your rule and explanation about lowest sell price is hardly manipulated by GS buyers (actually many more items is manipulated ), so dont even consider the current price.
Conclusion: Sell the green greatswords to TP at ~4.50s. There is similar situation with few more green items.
Tip3. There is 20 types of blue weapons, DO YOUR 1000+ SALVAGES!

……. I can put here 100 more tips, but i dont feel i like it.

One last tip: Some of the kits you can buy with karma.

The picture below shows what I’m talking about. Some armor isn’t even listed, and those selling are just above NPC price. Others that net you a few copper difference, actually don’t because of the cost to sell them. This is why I NPC almost all green, blue, white. Yes some gear is worth more, but that is why I mentioned to compare the prices.

Edit-
Now I just did the math on how much I would make NPCing those armors/weapons.
Which came to 8silver and 2 copper
Salvaging them on the other hand netted me only 3s 49c before tax.

As for "My personal “style” include salvaging precursors and vendoring exotics, but i will never write a guide about it, since it doesnt help new players get money with it. "

(My) personal style nets me more than per hour any player I’ve met in game, and has gotten me a ton of hate mail because others can’t seem to make money. Which is why I posted how I play. Not everyone has to play like me, and those are just my suggestions. But people have to do the research to find what is best for everything as the economy often changes.

And btw the materials and items listed were the result of one 4 minute run on orr event.

I somehow missed replying to "Conclusion – it is profitable just to vendor hard leather straps and rawhide gear, than to salvage it or sell to the TP. "

But I do sell my silk scraps or hard leather to NPC because the BLTC is usually less profit. But I don’t think where you stated “it is the same price on vendor” is correct. I could be wrong but I think you have to sell above vendor price, or maybe it is AT OR Higher. I haven’t really checked, so if I’m wrong np :P

“Tip2. The TP price of green greatswords lvl 74+ is significantly higher than it vendor price. After you pay the taxes you will still get 2-3s more than if you sell it to the vendor. Dungeons and you.

Geotherma.2395

Master Kit vs Ecto's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Geotherma.2395

Geotherma.2395

A black lion kit costs 300 gems at the current rate that is 9g to buy.
25 rares contain 75 ecto’s (3 each). A master (or mystic) salvage kit will give a 25% of on getting each ecto; therefore on average a master salvage kit will get you 18.75 ecto’s. A black lion kit will give you a chance 50%; resulting in 37.5 ecto’s on average.
At the present price (22s) this will give you approx 4g. So that does not appear to be worth it. For this to be worth it either ecto’s need to more than double in price or gem prices need to go down to 1.3g

A mystic kit costs 36s (for the three salvages kits) + 3 forge stones which are 150 gems which is 4.5g. At 250 uses this is approx 2s per use. The original 3 kits had 75 charges costing about 0.5s per use. So that would not be worth it either. For this to be cheaper the gems would have to be 56s per 100 or less

Be sure to check the part where I said not to buy kits for salvaging, but to use ones you have received free :P I recommended if people did want to buy then straight out, it was best to buy to remove expensive (2g+) runes/sigils from armor or weapons.
