I want to add that I was disappointed in seeing no casual PvE content in this patch. Many of us have no interest in dungeons and were looking forward to the new Lost Shores zone which seems to be just a big open dungeon.
We were hoping for another Frostgorge.
We got another Orr.
I’m going to try and defend ANET here. Their stated method is to fix the underlying cause of the problem, not to band-aid each individual occurrence. Which is the better long term solution.
BOTH solutions need to be done at the same time – a band-aid fix for the problems that come up while the underlying problem is investigated and fixed.
However, the band-aid is completely ignored and, in many cases, might not even be possible, given how they’ve set up the game. Is there any other MMORPG where they can’t set quests to specific stages (or reset completely, as needed, to bypass a spot it’s getting stuck at), reset NPCs or spawn ones that should’ve shown up but didn’t, etc., on the fly while the game is up? It’s been possible (and done routinely) in every other MMORPG I’ve played for any length of time… (CoH, Vindictus, WoW, Toontown, Free Realms, Rift, and a couple of others)
Guys, while I feel your frustration, you need to understand that not everything is perfect, this content was free, and these poor developers are doing everything they can with the manpower they have. A free game is going to have limited manpower, so just work with them and be appreciative of what you have.
*gets off knees
The game is not free. It cost me $60. It cost others $80. It cost still others $150.
Frankly, it’s getting to the point where if I could get my money back, I would. This is not the game I was expecting from the pre-BWE hype, and it’s only gotten buggier since launch, with more pre-BWE promises broken.
Was there any single part of this event that hasn’t suffered from blocking bugs. Noll disappearing. The largos breaking. Canach disappearing. Unkillable Ancient Karkas. I’m seriously starting to have doubts about ANet’s QA process….
I have no doubts about ANet’s QA process – it’s rather obvious that they don’t actually HAVE a QA process to have doubts about.
There were some events that we could not extend past Phase 1, unfortunately. Extending all events in Phase 1 would have been a much more extensive fix, requiring much more time to thoroughly regress. Given the time sensitive nature of the event, we extended what portions we were able to effectively.
Our developers are reading all of your feedback and are taking all the critiques on board.
We apologize that this means that folks are not able to complete the Miyani chain.
Why is it “time sensitive” in the first place? It shows an extreme lack of foresight (not to mention basic beta testing!) to set things up so that it’s confined to a single, short ime period and has everyone’s individual progress be at the mercy of some global timer.
It’s been at least 15 hours now in the Fields of Ruin on Borlis Pass that the Disillusioned Separatist (standing there in the forest doing nothing) and Royal Messenger Laren (standing near the foot of Ebonhawke’s north ramp with her two Soldiers) escort events have been stuck. :/
Even worse, it’s been more than 36 hours since “Break up the fight instigated by the Renegade” at Deathblade’s Watch (Mithric Cliffs) has been stuck at “Renegade sympathizers subdued: 4/5”!
(So many broken events staying broken for so long is NOT good, and we’re long past the point where “It’s a new game, give them time!” can be considered a reasonable response (a response I’ve heard all too much over the last week).)
As the subject says, the dungeon Story and Explorable Modes really should be unlinked.
There are a LOT of us who do not have even the slightest interest in Destiny’s Edge and being forced through their storyline on every character in order to play the dungeons just sucks (even just once is too much, frankly, especially since you have to sit through “A Fragile Peace” first in order to remind you just how boring and uninteresting their squabbling is), and there is no real reason why we shouldn’t be allowed to skip it (anything “important” to understanding the Explorable Mode stories can be covered with a simple “Destiny’s Edge was through here and…” in an intro text panel).
The slow, laggy, unpredictable GW2 camera that zooms in and out almost randomly if you accidentally get an object (eg, a skinny Sylvari mortar plant) between it and the character (especially bad as an Asura, even maxed height), is about as bad as they come – and it’s gotten worse with the new fixed zoom level of the downed camera so that rallying (and avoiding equipment damage) becomes even harder than it already was due to not being able to find foes you can attack with your piddly little downed skills to try and defeat. :/ Combined with the consolish ultra-low FOV (doesn’t seem to be even 70 degrees for me on a 19" widescreen @ 1440×900 – and I need 85-90 to be comfortable), the camera makes GW2 a frustrating, annoying experience.
It would be so nice if the devs would go and look at the view and camera of GW1 and then replicate it in GW2. Never happen, though.
