When stronghold is released do you think there is potential for a chillmancer build to finally be effective? I’m sure as we all know necros can provide permanent chilling. Where would this be effective? When minions are trying to take down a gate or to slow down a hero? Or is there too much cleansing in the game for that to even happen?

Ya I meant to say I would not like dark path to work like ride the lightning.. I would rather have mobility on weapon skills. Dark path is actually really good in most situations. Being the claw would be nice.

I like the idea for the blast finishers.
Dark pact could use a cast time reduction sure, but I don’t think we need more vulnerability, we already have a tonne.

If you can get death shroud 5 channelling on them wait a little bit then use doom to secure the immobilize. If you can figure out a way to work spectral grasp or warhorn into your build those are also good for countering thieves. IMHO dealing with thieves and just playing necromancer in general takes a lot of practice.

Still wondering about how arena net took the time to fix the projectile on our staff, but left “Reaper’s Touch” (focus #4) and “Spectral Grasp” in the dust. Like come on, fix these projectiles.

An increase in velocity of the projectiles and somehow make them less susceptible to obstruction…i’m not asking for it to be overhauled so its like unavoidable i just want it to be fixed in the same way staff auto attacks were fixed to the point of actually being able to land more often! Anyone else agree?

It’s not allowed because you might get dishonor while in a loading screen when the queue pops, even though there is no dishonor feature enabled! #anetlogic

Evan Lesh (PvP Gameplay programmer) specifically told me the reason is because people might miss their queue pop while in a loading screen.

On another note, what’s 60 extra seconds before a match starts compared to an 8 minute queue in the mist doing nothing at all.

If anything it will promote using the ready up button.

You know? The button that absolutely nobody ever presses.

There is some crazy hyperbole being thrown around here. Remove necros from the game? That’s insane. No one will take that seriously. The better idea would be to remove all the other classes from the game. “Necro Wars 2” Boom. Everyone is happy.

Necromancers have without doubt received the least attention of all classes since release and are in my opinion currently in the worst spot. The bandaid that was Dumbfire backfired and led to them essentially being left behind, while all other classes developed in some meaningful way. This might not be that noticable if you have not followed the course of the game from release, but is painfully clear if you did.

The issue for me is: I think this is highly unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. The argument will be that with the introduction of the revenant, there are more than enough balancing issues to deal with as is. Seeing as this is unfair to new players that might be rolling and leveling a necro, you might as well say: ‘The arrival of the revenant has made necromancers obsolete and we will be phasing out this class, compensating every necromancer player with a revenant of the same level.’ I mean I understand that this will never happen, but hopefully such lines of thought might bring more attention to the state the class is currently in.

There HAS to be a game changer for necromancers when HoT hits, everyone will just be running revenant and arena net is probably aware that having everyone roll one class will be stupid and unfun. I think they will bring more to the table for other classes. But who knowsbiy is arena net after all……..

Tl;Dr may be we are in for another “ele-pocalypse” (as quoted by one of the devs)

Spectral wall on a power build? :0 that sounds interesting, how useful would you say it is compared to another stunbreak or 2 wells? If anything, i’d consider running corrupt boon on power. I think i’m also gonna run traveler runes from now on, how noticeable is the damage drop?

The damage drop isn’t too severe, you can still do good dps with traveller runes. If you want to take a stun break replace your dps well with well of power. It provides good defence against blinds (for a short time). Whenever you use reapers protection make sure you go into your deathshroud while its in the air to maximize damage.

I only use spectral wall when I throw it on a body to revive or prevent a revive, or if im trying to pull off the fight. You have to really set it up in a good position. Its a good counter to slick shoes if you can pull it off.

so your reason is more along the line of “somebody has to be at the bottom” and if you happen to main one of those (or even multiple) from the classes that are below the curve, you just have to accept it? Sorry, I cant accept that.

Then change class. Its that simple. Somebody will always be on the bottom. Its inevitable.

Ultimately, it doesnt even matter which class you pick if we’re not talking about perfectly tuned 5 man premades in the very top tier. PvP is all about being in the right spot at the right time and preferably with the right build. +1 when you need it or hold a cap against 3 people for 30 seconds when you need it. You bring your skill and knowledge of what you can acheive. The rest is just sheer dumb luck because you never know if you face that perfect counter to your build. The class is just the class.

One class being at the bottom obliterates the theory of balance.
Cele classes should be balanced with cele classes, and classes that play the role of dps (zerker) should be balanced with zerkers. I don’t really have anything to contribute to that but I’m just saying that your statement contradicts the whole theory of balance.

Then please shed light on what your doing differently. A thief has many ways to reset the fight and remove conditions while stealthing. I usually find them running circles around me as im trying to catch them and if I miss that small window of opportunity of downing them before they restleath, im dead.

I’m prooobably gonna regret posting , but oh well.

As a thief, I don’t like fighting necros. For a light armor class, they have good sustain, and can drop plenty conditions.

Thieves reset the fight because they are getting pressured. That usually means they have spent all their escapes and need to pull away for a cooldown to finish. The main form of stuns and interrupts come from basilisk venom – keep an eye on the little green icon and if you dodge the attack, BV is spent and they can’t use it again right away.

Condi cleansing doesn’t only come from stealth – and it only applies if the thief is running point lines in SA. Shadowstep can also remove conditions. Their steal skill against necros is the fear skull, but you can watch the animation of when they rise it in the air, and you can dodge it.

CCing a thief in a well is pretty effective. Personally as a thief, if you go lich form, I’ll throw caution to the wind and make you focus on me instead of my team’s DPSer. Don’t get tricked into doing that. A thief can evade the attacks pretty effectively. I can easily disengage mid-fight to throw a quick spike or CC on someone else, then go back to focusing the biggest threat.

All you have to do to kill a necro is daze shot then cleave or blind then cleave, as necros has very long cast times so it is difficult to get rid of the blind without landing a good skill with the hopes of not missing. And if your s/d thief all you do is evade the necros major attacks with all your evades. Thief pretty much hard counters necros if you play it right. Terrormancer is a little harder to fight as a thief but its still do-able.

^ This. I imagine thats why necros have a lot of access to weakness. Maybe we should be taking that condition more seriously.

I’ve started to build my power necro for more defence against good thieves. Even though the daze shot basically renders us useless since everything gets interrupted lol, I take one well, as well as spectral wall and I use weakening shroud instead of focused rituals. I make up for the damage loss by taking focus, because if you can hopefully get the cast off and go into your death shroud all 3 procs crit and can track stealth. Warhorn is still good but I use focus mainly with traveller runes. Sometimes I switch out dagger for axe but its interchangeable.. ….I also take the retaliation upon entering death shroud over gain might with each life blast.

Basically I’ve built more defence but take less damage in terms of aoe cleave. Spectral wall isn’t too shabby with the recent stab changes……a good thief will still kitten a necro up.

As for the build, you say you like it because of its strong condition pressure. In what world is having a average potential of 5 bleeds on a cele amulet strong condition pressure? Oh and fun fact, the conditions you transfer and the damage they do have absolutely nothing to do with your stats so arguing that having condition damage from celestial amulet helps plague amulet is foolish and wrong

In regards to invulns, nobody is really taking into consideration that an invuln can eat unlimited amounts of damage, whereas deathshroud cannot. So stop comparing deathshroud to invulnerabilities like mist form.

Maybe in the top 1% of the PvP and hardcore competitions the Necro is useless, in the other 99% it work decently enough.

You even admit we’re useless in hardcore pvp. Necro is already next to hopeless in the dungeon/PvE ascpects of the game, then we’re supposed to be okay with just “decent” at non-hardcore PvP? While Guardians, thieves, elementalists, engineers, warriors are completely amazing in both.

Of course I admit it. Because its simple math. If A, B, C, D and E are 5% better than F, G and H while you only have 5 slots to fill… You’re going to choose from A-E to fill the ranks. Same reason why GWEN has ruled WvW. AoE effects are party priority and limited to 5 so that dictate party composition. Dungeons – same thing. Everything in GW2 is controlled by party size and AoE limit.

Someone has to be okay with it. With the Revenant coming, one of the “good” classes might even be pushed out. Because its going to end up either in the meta or in the trash, isnt it? If its the former, people will come here once again and go “please just remove the elementalist from the game” or wharever class has the fortune to be the chosen one.

At some point you have to accept it. Necro could use a boost in dungeons and I hope the greatsword change that, but for PvP… its still decent.

Back to my original statement, “The only thing we’re good for in this game is dropping a well in a zerg fight”. Basically anything else we want to do in the game, another class will do better than us. What you’re saying is backing that too.
If any other class in this game was in the same position, they would complain and ask for change too. Ranger was just like us for a long time and look- now they got buffs and new tools and even have their own niche in dungeons. (while the necro keeps getting nerfs)
Also ironic that you mentioned the Revenant and how it will replace classes.. It’s a heavy armor class that seems to be better at condition manipulation/control and sustain than a necromancer would ever hope to be. It seems like they are giving that class everything Necro has been asking for since the beginning and making it what a Necromancer SHOULD have been.

Why Necro and Mesmer should be buffed?

Just wanted to add my two cents I guess.

If you like, you can go to the mists, slap on settler’s or cleric’s and create it 30 seconds a minion master that takes ages to take down. So what? Any class has these builds that do nothing but run around until focus fired by 2 players. The point of a bunker is not simply to be hard to kill, but to provide support to your team, something that necros lack completely. A necro will never (and should never) be a better tank than a guardian can be. And guardian tanks, btw, are mostly extinct now due to the buffs to celestial.

The meta changes at all times but this will not nullify the importance of a guardian bunker, I won’t sit here trading blows regarding the current meta

Regarding my post, I have said that those traitlines should be buffed in order to create viable bunker/bruiser builds, aka give necro and Mesmer a source of support suitable for them, something different from current ele/engi/guardian but something supportive nonetheless

So for those of you who tl:dr

OP wants mesmer and necros to stop crying for buffs. OP’s solution buff the things necros and mesmer were asking for…….. my kittening head hurts.

I (and I think most necros) do not want buffing these traitlines, but the other aspects. For that matter, I think that what must be buffed is not the survivability, but the utility, more specifically boon corruption, condition manipulation and soft cc.

It’s the survivability. As a pvp necro we have two options full glass power or terror. Terror is the only one that ever goes into a defensive traitline and even then I would argue going 4 into Spite vs 4 into DM is better.

If your newer to pvp or necro your going to argue about how you have some secret tanky build using US that no one else has ever thought of before until you are blue in the face. Eventually everyone figures out they were wrong.

We have plenty of corruption. We have plenty of CC. We have plenty condition manipulation.

Nexed, did that guy really just say necros do not want buffs in survivability traitlines? i.e blood/death magic?

A couple of weeks ago people were saying that necro is one of the strongest classes, especially in pugs and how they could take on three players at once, turn games around etc.

Now suddenly it is weak and needs buff to be viable, ok……..

Umm, what? Who was saying that? Last time that was the case against any decent players was back in the beta weekends (when, let’s face it, everyone was kinda meh).

Not to mention that some necro builds directly counter some of the most annoying builds in spvp atm. If necro mobility/escape mechanics are boosted they need to have damage and life force regen nerfed.

I see one person saying that and everyone else disagreeing with said person. While they do counter Celementalists and Elengineers well…they still aren’t taken on most teams.

Think about that. They counter what is, on average, 60% of the opposing team, yet most teams don’t want one. Seems more than a little off, don’t you think?

Actually, several people in that thread say necro is uber in spvp, if you are having trouble reading I can copy and paste for you to help. Also, most people say engi/ele cele builds are the most OP builds in spvp atm. Necro is a direct counter to that so is in a good place in that respect as well.

Note the classes that are not mentioned- guard, warrior and I think Mesmer. I don’t think those classes are UP, but necro was getting placed in the top three most OP classes in spvp, at least in pugs, and now you think they need a buff. Seems more than a little off, don’t you think?

First off Drarnor is constantly in the necromancer forum. When they released info about the forum specialist a thread was created by the community and almost everyone wanted Drarnor to be the specialist so I wouldn’t question his knowledge of what the necromancer community is asking for.

By your logic, necromancers are OP over the fact that they can crush cele engis? So that puts them on the same scale as engis and eles? That’s great and stuff but as you can see engis and eles don’t really have any other major counters to them besides the necromancers (not even the necro in general, try rolling a different build to beat them 1v1 let me know how that works out for you). So you’re judging the strength of class on its 1v1 capabilities. Its nice that you tried to step into the old dusty dark cave that is the necromancer forum, but just because you go in there once and read a few threads doesn’t sum up months and months of the community asking for changes.

I check the necromancer forum everyday. I also main a necromancer.

To my knowledge, there is literally nobody asking for buffs to specific builds like you mentioned. My experience in the necromancer forum is the majority of people questioning the cast-times and unnecessary after-cast times that really limit us. And necromancers have been asking for blood and death magic buffs for years.

If I were you I would organize your thoughts better because you start your thread bash mesmers and necromancers (arguably the most lacking classes in PvP), then you go on to complain that nobody will listen to your zerker ele cries for help. It makes you sound incompetent and biased.

Downstate is the place where necro should be

For everyone saying no class should be this strong in downstate, well no class should be able to revive themselves through use of a pet but then you have rangers. It’s a downstate form people, learn to deal with it. I would much much much rather have a mist form like elementalists or a port and stealth like a thief but no I have strong damage while in downstate, DEAL WITH IT.

Seriously? do you know how long does it takes a pet to revive? or to stand as a warrior? That Necro in the video killed a GUARD, yes a GUARD with more than 50% health in less than 3 secs. That is what we talking about here, DEAL WITH IT.

Zerker class. Deal with it.

HEY, if you’re having trouble with necromancer and you need ANET to buff it, im NOT against that, I’d like to Actually be overpowered like dhummfire days, but don’t try and validate ur opinion of necro’s being bad Because they have a good chance of beating shout war, cele ele, cele engi. They have game changing elites and YES they can be in two places at once with wurm, we used to have rip watch home and mid with condi necro while we assaulted far, worked GREAT.

For one, stop insulting the whole necro community, it’s rude and makes you look like a childish kitten. Also, if necros really had such strong matchups against those classes they would be on every team considering those 3 builds make up 60% of most teams. Seeing as they aren’t on every team, it is fair to assume those matchups aren’t as good as you think. Also, wurm is probably the worst utility port in the game, with a 1.5 second cast time and the same cooldown as lightning flash. Also, it is well known necros are slow rotaters due to lack of consistent swiftness, and no on weapon movement skills. Certainly one of the last classes people would describe as in two places at once.

I also wouldn’t describe the elites as game changing, lich definetely forces the issue, and plagues is a very strong debuff, but they can be countered by good players quite easily. Your last sentence fragment is just anecdotal evidence about a team comp you had, and doesn’t really mean anything.

Buddy, I run warhorn which by default gives 20 sec of swiftness on a 30 second colddown and can be traited for 100% uptime, if u take warhorn and spectral walk u have 150% uptime on swiftness, so yes necros can rotate plenty fast. Also, there are MANY bad necros out there, I offer support if needed, contact me ingame, my name is below.

You see you claim power necro beats D/D ele 1v1 yet you and you’re other power necro always lose your d/d ele 1v1s in tournaments. Stop glorifying yourself, or at least fix the tone you’re using, you sound conceded and ignorant.
