Rune of the Trapper

Justine.6351

Like your other rune set idea, this is simply way too much stuff on a single rune set. The two-piece alone gives you 25 Condition Damage and 300 Expertise, which is double the Expertise it currently gives. Beyond that you want it to do everything it already does in only a 4-piece and then some. Think about the implications of this with Thief; they get access to even more permanent evasion and even greater condition access for free. Not only that, but why would you give someone evasion and stealth at the same time? This rune set just screams “I desperately want this to somehow work with Necromancer, even though it makes no sense and would be completely broken on other classes.”

I’m sorry man, but some people really just shouldn’t work/think in the side of game balance.

Cool ty,

As for the balance maybe instead they should just make a rune set that only affects marks. I like staff but it seriously needs more utility and I think stealth, superspeed and evasion just might make condi necromancer viable!

Thinking maybe it could be called Rune of the Magic Marker

I think rune of the trapper should work with marks.
I also think the runes could use a buff,

1) +25 condition damage
2) +20% condition duration
3) +50 condition damage
4) whenever you use a trap or mark you gain superspeed and stealth for 2 seconds
5) +100 condition damage
6) whenever you use a mark or trap you evade for 2 seconds and apply 3 seconds of burning to foes you evade

Yes but with PoF the firebrand will leave scourge in the dust if they do not make scourge runes solid.

I really don’t think the condi would be too big because the spellbreaker will passively eat up all the boons before scourge can get them. I suppose i could reduce the boon removal from rune set to 3.

At least attempt to do something balanced?

Simply changing the 6 piece bonus of the actual rune to something like “gain Barrier on Heal Skill use” would make it a pretty good rune. The only real issue with it is that a barrier when struck below 50% health really needs a shorter cooldown than 75 seconds.

Idk it seems resonable. Why play condi boonstrip scourge when you can play chill reaper. At least a rune set would lock you into a runeset without interfering with trait balance.

So I was thinking how I would make rune of the scourge,

1) 25 condition damage
2) +20% condition duration
3) +50 condition damage
4) +30% condition duration
5) +100 condition damage
6) cause 3 bleeds whenever you cause torment. Convert 5 boons, on foes in 600 radius, into torment every 3 seconds. Grant 1k barrier per boon converted or removed.

What do you guys think the rune set should be?

*Add stability to all stunbreaks, at various degrees, that is granted when a stun is broken.
*Cull the anti-cc traits like last stand as well as the punish-cc traits like mirror anguish.

Put an end to this non-sense of both passive cc defense and ineffective stunbreaking.

Focus: Godtier Weapon

Justine.6351

Godtier? So let’s see…. Focus has Temporal Curtain which grants swiftness and cripple to anyone who passes through it, pretty weak condition and boons. Then you can shatter it for to pull which is pretty strong if people don’t have Stability yeah it would be pretty effective to combo it with AoE bombs. (lol only bad zergs have no stability). Yeah Temporal Curtain is a pretty good skill.

Then we have Phantasmal Warden. We all know how kittenty illusions are in WvW and obviously Warden is one of the weakest Phantasms alive in PvP/WvW scenarios. In PvE it has it’s use because bosses can be controlled to be stationary and they’ll be able to apply their full skill. In PvP/WvW it doesn’t really do anything other than being Shatter fodder. It doesn’t do anything. People will just walk away from the poor guy in duels. In PvP/WvW it gets easily destroyed lol.

Comparing it to Shield, Shield has a double block that’s invaluable. It also summons 2 Phantasms when you time it right! And these Phantasms aren’t useless either as they provide Alacrity and Slow opponents hit. They do decent damage instantly too!

Then we also have Tides of Time. It’s a god-tier skill. Double stun, doesn’t have a target limit, provides 1.5 secs of Quickness to everyone that passes through it. Sure it has a long ass cooldown but it’s all worth it for it’s power. It also destroys Projectiles?! What?

Ya I do like shield. I end up using focus and shield cause both are so good.

Not everyone is aware but iwarden casts an axe that immobilizes now. Iwarden is probably best used on backliners and downed players. I generally do just pop it and pray though. Maybe I could focus (harhar bad joke) on utilizing iwarden more strategically for part 2. I’ve been experimenting with the whirling cleanse thing. It doesn’t seem too reliable at, will have to learn how to control.

I’ve been running Focus in PvP a lot myself, that axe has a 1200 range, and the projectile itself is borderline impossible to see, so unless they see you lifting up the focus to throw the axe they probably are gonna get hit by the axe and be rooted for 2s and are sitting ducks for you to set up.

Pair that with Sig of Midnight and you can guarantee a nice little immob chain.

The axe really does have a good projectile. I’m not sure if just fast or has some tracking. If you Condi mesmer, try to get chaos storm + iwarden and see how well it stack confusion maybe idk.

I mean, trying not to be rude but to me, besides pulling people off keeps, you won fights despite focus, not because of it. Many times your pull failed because of stability and I even saw you pull a guy, not even towards you, for absolutely no reason before I quite watching the video.

Then you completely missed the point, as most do.
The amount of utility stacked into a whole 2 skills.

In general it just bothers me when people say focus needs buffs because all they think it can do is pull people off walls and give swiftness. Really? I could have figured that out by using it for 5 min. People should put some effort into learning what you can do with a skill set instead of asking for buffs after looking at wiki for 30 seconds.

I don’t know maybe I make a part 2 to break down how to utilize focus for anyone who didn’t quite understand what they were watching. I sometimes forget that focus is the forgotten offhand that not nearly enough attempt to use cause no bambam big number pewpew loot. I’m just not sure its actually worth the effort though.

I’m well aware that focus was used a lot by Mesmers in WvW before HoT. A lot of this had to due with access to swiftness and no 25% movement trait.
1:03: Your focus interrupted your opponent, but you did not take advantage. Only used the time to cast TW.
1:23: Pulled with focus and use auto attack and mind wrack with NO illusions up.
2:04, you pulled the elementalist away from you, no reason.
2:40, blinked and your focus missed. You then killed the player without the focus, meaning no focus was needed.
3:51: killed guy without using focus, again it wasn’t needed. You then could have used focus to pull the guys away to secure the stomp. You instead use the focus pull after the other player already revived his friend. This focus pull was followed up by nothing. No shatter, attack, or anything. You just summoned another phantasm. This is when I quite watching.

Finally, why are all the players you fight getting caught with illusionary leap? This unfortunately makes me question the skill of the opponents you are fighting.

You could be using focus to pull foes together for shatters, pull a foe to follow up with illusionary leap incase the foe knows how to dodge it, or use the focus to pull foes away from a downed player before you stomp or away from a down ally to res them. Instead I didn’t see any of that in the video content I watched so far.

I’m not doubting focus has utility, no one is. That is why it is still used all the time in PvE. However, I am doubting its combat use. As others have mentioned, nothing new has been learned about focus. It has been used to pull people off walls and ledges in WvW for what seems like an eternity.

Instead of poking at my bad gameplay as the reason focus is bad, why not challenge yourself and make the attempt to disprove beyond a shadow of a doubt that focus might actually be more in depth than “ROFL I pull people off walls”. And maybe actually watch the vid before deciding none of it is worth watching because you didn’t like 3min of it. “Hey I didn’t watch the vid, here’s my opinion on why you suck and vid suck, thumbs down gg”.

Always found focus fun in pvp ppl never expect it and if there falling dmg the weapon will get insta value.

It’s certainly fun for the novelty, at least until you run into an opponent that shuts it down completely, where you wish you had the extra stealth or a block.

Personally running 3 stunbreaks and phase retreat I have never been bothered by a curtain pull that manages to connect (emphasis on “manages”), on the now very rare occasions I run into a focus user whether in pvp or wvw. I just immediately get up out if it and go in for burst, where the reflect is meaningless and iWarden gets demolished.

Edit – anyway I too would like to see a part 2, particularly fights or duels against good thieves/mesmers, as well as some outnumbered situations where they really chase you.

Focus is not a dueling weapon. Well I’m not a dueler and so I don’t think I could produce a dueling vid with focus. In this vid I’m running a bunker boon support chrono with traited glamours. I intentionally started one of the clips of me killing a sentry to show just how low the damage actually is. It’s laughable that anyone could die to it, but ya know…it’s wvw.

Cool Aion track by the way.

Nah they been around, few have thought to utilize them is all.

For small example,

Everyone knows, drop temporal curtain in front of your zerg for easy swiftness for all.
How many have dropped it in front of enemy zerg? Cripple for all.

It’s one of those small actions a single player can do that can force many actions from many opponents.

Offhand Axe mid range Power skills?

Justine.6351

Would be nice if they just gave some love to Focus.

Focus is essentially an offhand Axe for us at this point, but two things make it awkward with Mirage:
1. Warden’s Feedback is in Inspiration which firstly is not the most synergistic line with Mirage, and not only that but it competes with Restorative Illusions.
2. Focus is very weak in any kind of pvp, especially untraited.

Regarding number 2, the sheer quantity of evades/blocks/stability/anticc skills and traits and other bullkitten being kittened out by every class makes Into the Void outdated. It’s a skill that has been eclipsed by HoT and previously it has gone neglected because with Chrono we have Shield which eclipsed most other offhands aside from Torch (which in itself is only really useful due to having stealth). But now Mirage is making it apparent how weak certain offhands are.

They slapped the ICD on Into the Void which at the time was good to give players more time to react, but now chances are it’s likely going to be passively countered by some bullkitten anyway.

Focus 4 needs serious reevaluation – ideally the curtain at least ought to destroy projectiles and maybe even provide quickness/slow, or maybe the pull br unblockable (ok I might be getting carried away there xD).

And as for the iWarden – this guy ought to pulse some effect like protection to allies within the bubble. I kind of like the stationary aspect of it though, in terms of setting up and controlling the field tactically, as well as a shelter to hide from projectiles.

Anyway maybe those are not suitable but whatever the case Focus needs some attention as it could thematically be the ideal counterpart to Axe.

Though I would also welcome offhand axe as I wouldn’t say no to dual wield Astralarias!

Mesmer focus is probably the best offhand in wvw. And it does destroy projectiles already, both skills.

Untraited temporal curtain does not destroy projectiles. Only iWarden does that.

Only when traited do both reflect projectiles. Edit – and no one is going to trait it when it competes with RI.

It’s nowhere near as good as shield or Torch for that matter due to stealth. Only real use for it in wvw is pulling people off vertical terrain/walls. We’ve already got movement speed buff from Chrono so that aspect is unnecessary.

I’ve been running traited focus since 2012. It’s god tier weapon.

Seriously? So you’ve never not traited it, especially since the trait rework and specialisation patch (to know that untraited curtain does nothing to projectiles – I used to believe that too until it was shown to me)?

Which means I take it you don’t use Restorative Illusions? Especially in wvw where it hasn’t even been nerfed, unlike in pvp where they cut the healing and made it more dependent on healing power. Taking into account the further nerf to Mender’s Purity and you’ve got to question what is the point in running Inspiration in the first place? Would be far better off with Duelling or another line.

Focus was god tier when you only needed to put 20 points in Inspiration to trait it and Into the Void could be insta cast after curtain drop.

Focus became “ok” when they slapped the 1s ICD on into the void.

Focus is now outdated since HoT, in spite of the consistency change to pull and the immobilise on iWarden cast (which in practice is beyond negligable). It’s a pve weapon used for clustering mobs in things like Fractals so you and your party can stack and hack.

Look at any kind of competitive pvp – how many players use focus? Zero. They all use Sword/Shield, which is the only set you could remotely call “god tier”. Even in lower tiers, Torch is the primary alternative offhand that sees most use.

I can’t remember the last time I ran into any mesmer in wvw who used Focus – or at least any mesmer that bothered me enough to remember them – most are running Torch or Shield, very few running Pistol, a good number running Staff and pretty much all cookie cutter power shatter are running Greatsword. I know what weapons I’d rather have equipped if caught with my pants down or outnumbered in wvw, and it’s certainly not Focus. Edit – this happened a few weeks ago on DBL where I was pulling some enemies from a wall, ended up outnumbered 1:3 – downed one but unable to stomp and was shortly killed – whereas with Torch or Shield I may have been able to win that fight.

Actually the last time I ran into an opponent mesmer using focus was hotjoin of all places, and we were commending their efforts in chat because of how easy it was to beat them.

It’s godtier for wvw. Like it’s so crazy stacked with utility for a whole 2 skill slots.

Dire or Trailblazer for WvW condi reaper ?

Honestly just go for dire if you want the survivability for zerg fights. Trailblazer might be slightly better since you counter opponents -dura, but your ability to boon rip won’t change and you will still stack a lot of bleeds regardless.

Unless I’m mistaken, the meta for WvW guild groups is cele necro with axe/focus (or dagger or wh) and GS. So if you have the gear to make cele, that would be another option.

For some reason staff is still meta. Ease of use I suppose. On metabattle there are even builds with staff but not soul reaping… Idk what that site is supposed to be.

But what is the decay rate math stuff?

Instant decay?
Slight delayed decay window?
Refreshing delayed decay window on reapplication of barrier?

Linear decay?
Exponential decay?

%based decay?
Static based decay?

Idk if anyone has looked into this yet. Idk if it’s going to be obvious enough to matter regardless of build.

Barrier begins to decay 2 seconds after the last barrier was applied.

It rapidly drains at a rate that, 6 seconds after the last barrier was applied, a full barrier at 50% of your health will have fully depleted.

Think of it as an inverse of the out of combat healing basically.

So it drains at percent rate or static or we don’t have enough data yet then?

Just wondering if a 15k max barrier will decay as fast as a 7.5k max barrier. If it decays at a percent rate, healing power might actually be irrelevant for all but the most keen eyed scourge who can actually catch a spike with a strong barrier. For everyone else just keeping softer barriers up for some modest damage mitigation won’t even require healing power.

I run a tonne of toughness myself, but is toughness that important in the condi meta?

Shroud has 50% damage reduction.
Scourge has upto 15% damage reduction.

That’s a lot of damage reduction you lose to help shield you. Power builds are going to carve into vita scourges really hard if they catch them without protection. Idk how it will all play out but I think 300 toughness would be prudent to take.

Yes as somebody else pointed out, F-skills cost doesn’t scale with vitality, so more vitality is desirable option.

Life force has always functioned with %.

Shroud damage shielding scaled better with vita because of its inherent 50% damage reduction.

Barrier has no damage reduction and scales with healing power. This makes toughness more valid an option as you do not want to be a vita pillow that burns through barriers and carves through health pool that you can not replenish easily.

Yes, but life force costs are static. A larger pool from more Vitality means you can use the shade skills more per life force gain.

To the OP: I think Celestial is honestly a good base for your gear for supporting in WvW. I wouldn’t use full Celestial, but maybe just the armor, then using weapons and trinkets to customize.

Oh grief, thought they were % cost.
Looks like high hp class still pigeonholed into vita.

Without any vita nor SR the highest cost skill would be 35% lf and the cheapest 10%.

Seraph’s is glass gear, don’t do that.

Apothecary
healing power, toughness/condition damage

Will focus on healing power for solid barriers and modest boon duration for condi to boon conversion.

Ideas to help Power Reaper

in Necromancer

Blighter’s Boon,
When dealing damage to foes with conditions, deal an increased +2% damage per condition. Removing or corrupting boons deals damage.

Dealth Chill,
Inflicting chill strikes for damage on application. Deal +5% increased damage per second of chill left on enemies you strike.

Reaper’s Onslaught,
Striking foes while in shroud grants Reaper’s Onslaught (max15 stacks, .5sec icd unique per foe). Reaper’s Onslaught increases damage, attack and movement speed by 3%, lasts for 3 seconds and refreshes stacks on reapplication.

"Safe" stats to go for on my necro

Nothing is safe. We’re at the mercy of monkeys pulling the balance levers.

Having said that, if you have Celestial, you will always have a bit of everything – regardless of what our merciless overlords nerf.

You’ll always have an inferior build in general if you go Celestial.

In wvw the only thing that truly matters is staying alive and corrupting boons. Celestial might stacking pretty much covers a solid balanced build. Necromancer is a class that easily uses 6 of the 7 stats. Scourge will even use all 7.

Yes but it’s not very accurate. If you try flailing at the dot the player in stealth might not actually be there.

remove the glideing zones !

I tried to explain this to them caveman,
My idea was to restrict the no fly territory zones tight to objectives and instead of warning make it instant deactivation.
They seem to love watching the mini map for color lines though because current zoning follows no intuitive lines, they are just arbitrary.

Objectives in red based on controlling server
Ruins free for all unless claimed currently
Sentries “marked” debuff disables gliding
Everything else free for all

Legendary Weapons Still Requiring HoT

I had forgotten just how fail HoT maps were until I decided to go for The Shining Blade.

Can we please stop making Legendary Weapon recipes that require over 100 HoT mastery points. HoT has been out for 2 years now and we still chaining new Legendary Weapons to that mess. Isn’t HoT map completion punishment enough?

Got another 40 mastery points to grind out and I don’t think they are going to be any less garbage pve than map completion of Tangled Depths already was. Or the joke of having to wait for a meta train to even do map completion in Dragon Stand.

solutions,
- reduce mastery rank requirement for the gifts
- remove mastery rank requirement for the gifts
- add an alternative vendor for the mastery gifts
- remove the mastery gifts from legendary weapons going forward

I don’t know if I am making any sense or maybe I am alone.

the mobs walking through you is something that happens regardless.

To make your character move with you turning the camera, hold down right-click while moving. To turn camera in free-mode hold down left click.

Why is Celestial important to a S/H Guardian?

Celestial has more stat points for a power support wvw guard than any 4 stat set and it balances them out quite well.

Yes make the rangers mad lol.

I’d play this spec maybe if it had Condi removal, stealth, power damage support, evades and cheap to use utility.
