I think this was the quote when I last watched the Priory story:

Gixx: “Priory arcanists have scried Steag Frostbeard’s location. He’s hiding in an encampment near Black Barl’s mill.”

The reason why I thought it was hilarious is because the texts reads as such but Gixx’s voiced dialogue actually says:

“Priory ‘anarchists’ have scried Steag Frostbeard’s location. He’s hiding in an encampment near Black Barl’s mill.”

First time I went through that area there was an event to open up the underwater cave system to reach that PoI. I’ve noticed that area is all sort of bugged out now a year or so later. When I went to explore there again I just swam right through the rock as if it was not there, apparently now when it isn’t there it is too.

No, 3700 gold would be better spent on skins I actually want (some of the racial skins/chaos weapons I missed out on before requiring 50 ticket scraps). Not to mention getting my crafting to 500 and/or converting to loads of transmog stone. That or some of the permanent things (bank/hair stylist).

I’ve yet to see a legendary I liked the look of… maybe the juggernaut but entropy looks better in my opinion and is about half of a percent of the price. So, yeah, 3,700 gold could buy the stylist with 2,100 left over.

Druid shapeshifting

Why would the Druid transform into animals ? Druids in GW are more about plants and nature spirits.
It might be possible but Druid doesnt always mean transformation. Don’t take WoW as a standard for everything.

I disagree. Druids are based on Real Life Druid culture, and Druid culture deals with both Animals and Spirits of nature…

And real-life druids did not change into plants, animals, or spirits. They were ordinary human beings bound by the same natural laws as everything else has been since the dawn of our universe. I’m not understanding what your counter argument is supposed to prove in order to get shape shifting druids into GW2.

Druids are going to be rangers who can use staff skills, and/or a few different utility skills, and possibly a different elite skill (which could be a shape shift, I suppose, but you’d only get to change into one other thing every 180-240 seconds for 30-60 seconds). They’ll play just like any of the other profession already in game.

Yeah, a little miffed at the event too. It’s clearly a PvP oriented event, and I’ve decided to not care about it tomorrow especially since I clicked ALL of the firecrackers in Divinity’s Reach and WvW citadel and still didn’t get the daily. I’m sitting at 4/5 lit and I think there’s about 20 of them which meant only 1 in 5 registered I’d clicked them (bug?)… unless I can light the ones in opposing server citadels (not going to happen).

I haven’t won a single Dragon Ball game (I doubt there’s any system organized to place me with similarly skilled players for this like they say exists in PvP even though I still lose 3 out of 4 games in PvP despite being the top scorer on my team in 3/5 of my games) and only one of them was a close game.

Why would a private section within a PvE map (That’s right, ‘A’ map), as per OP’s request, where FFA and PvP gameplay is allowed, with spectators to enjoy and bet on players (maybe?), where one can duel any friends of any server with food and full gear buffs be harmful to the PvE community?

Here is your answer:

The minority of PvPers are jerks who harass, at one point or another, every single PvEer who might be in the area of the arena with duel requests (through whispers if we auto decline) and subsequent name calling and demeaning comments when we refuse.

Nope.

I’m starting to think this thread was made by that already mentioned minority of jerks.

1) I am a PvEer.
2) You are the one calling other people names.
3) You claimed that 100% of all PvEers (every single one) who might be in the vicinity of a duel arena would be harassed. I have been in the vicinity of duel arenas without being challenged or harassed. I have also not been called names/etc for refusing on those occasions when I was challenged.

Maybe, just maybe, you should speak for yourself rather than trying to speak for every single PvE player in an MMO. You might come across as less like what you claim of others that way.

Alright, it is my opinion based on my personal experience in every single MMO I’ve played with PvP in PvE zones. I’d rather not have that experience happen here which is why I’m going to go back on topic and say ‘No’ to the OPs question and alter my statement to better reflect my opinions in a more neutral tone.

Simple Disable your whispers if it bothers you that much ; Or ignore it ? That is such a silly reason to not want a story based pvp setting . Considering the content of the expansion , im inclined to think they would do this or something similar to it . Nothing wrong with it ; Especially if you make alliances as i stated .

Wow… you don’t get it at all.

Why should I disable my whispers (including from my friends) just to avoid kittens?

I thought ‘no’ yesterday to this question… after this kitten event that caters specifically to PvPers (can’t even get the laurel unless you suffer at least 2 bouts of PvP, can’t even get the Ram unless the RNG gods are being extremely merciful unless you win 10 bouts of PvP)…

HELL NO!

I hated PvP in every game I played before this, and after getting out of my comfort zone since the new dailies I can safely say I still hate PvP. All PvP in the PvE zones would do is take away the best part about this game and I’d probably quit and never look back like I did with WoW and SWtOR. Bluntly, if I wanted to PvP I would have stuck with any number of MMOs I tried but GW2 offered a game that was focused on the community helping each other.

Unfortunately that community has been thrust into their e-sport designs and I fear there might actually be an open world PvP zone in HoT. If they continue to use PvP oriented events as ‘filler’ between now and the release I’ll probably not even bother with HoT. PvP is what brings out the worst players to a game because it designed to create conflict between players as is evident by any number of posts in this thread in support who want to ‘gank people running teq’ or ‘camp those who are against it’.

Just ask for a duel arena- one that doesn’t require your guild to have some special token to create- into the already structured PvP and you’ll have absolutely no reason to even bother asking for this other than to be trolls who enjoy griefing PvEers. I would support that right now, I would never support it interfering with anything in PvE in any way because even if you didn’t put WP or PoI inside the arenas I know I’d still be harassed to duel every time I passed one.

I typically waypoint if I go completely dead in events like these, and yes you do miss out on the loot- but not the xp/karma- if the event is finished while you’re running back. It’s annoying and it has caused me to pause and think about WPing or not in some situations. To fix this, especially in Silverwaste where there is only ONE waypoint all the way across the map because the others are typically contested as well as being forced to run the entire distance because the Skritt caves are typically closed during breach, they should award the loot even if you had to WP rez since you get the other rewards as well.

Since these events in SW are about the loot, and especially not the XP, it probably leads more people to just sleeping on the ground.

What loot? There is no loot in Breach or VW or basically anywhere for that matter. There is the reward chest in the bottom right that you get if you got bronze+ credit for the event. Same for VW big chest, you get it if you got credit. So unless you died instantly you don’t miss anything at all (and staying dead won’t help anyway).

You’re right, I’d forgotten how rewards are given in SW versus everywhere else. It’s been a week or two since I did anything in there. Everywhere else has trained them to not port away because champ event/world boss if you port away and can’t get back in time to tag you only get credit for completing the event and not the chests.

A Question About Armor

If something only has value because of its skin, it will continue to retain value because of its skin. A new design does not replace an old one and a new one may or may not be in the taste of someone who wanted that old one but could not afford it before. It isn’t like any of the craftable and sellable armor (I’m asking about armor, not weapons) skins out there cost very much anyway, 50ish copper-45 silver really and even those are usually cheaper to craft yourself if you harvest materials while casually playing.

I’d just like to see something come out of my crafting skills from the new expansion instead of having all new armors (if there are any) locked behind material/gold grinds, dungeon/raid tokens, gem store, or- the worst for unlucky people- RNG. Depending on the masteries for the races, maybe that’s how new skins will be unlocked but I could see (based on GWEN’s armors) that taking a lot of game time to unlock an entire set or how the carapace armor went to actually get the piece I want to use.

Then call it new greens/blues (though that wouldn’t make anyone happy since it’s 80 content) instead of ‘skin crafting’ if you think that would be such an important feature it needed to be introduced at PAX.

Is there any word on if there will be new, easily crafted, armor in HoT that is more like the sets we had BEFORE they decided they need material sinks in the game?

To clarify, I mean armor skins that take the amount of materials as blues/greens/yellows instead of exotics and… shudders… ascended (I’d even be happy with skins that took more materials than yellows but less than exotics). I don’t want to use up hundreds of bolts of silk to make one shirt… it says I’m a master tailor but obviously I’m not if I’m shredding the same amount of cloth I would use if I had been mass marketing the item.

I’m wondering because I’ve been experimenting with armor sets for my Revanant, but am not certain if there’ll be anything new that is quickly obtained that I may prefer. I’m also a little worried that I’ll be stuck with the same looks as I have been for close to two years now.

Really? The pommel? I blame the ridiculous, though accurate to GW1, size of the cross guard. I’d rather have more handle sticking out the bottom of my grip if I’m gonna wield a hand-and-a-half sword, kinda like Narsil in Lord of the Rings. Perhaps I just don’t notice how I hold all the other swords, but this is just my opinion of the weapon.

It looked like my character was wielding some sort of Adams Family rattle with a long blade attached to it.

I’d like to see Revanants getting their own personal story that builds them up as commander of the pact (and introduces them to the bionics) by saving the members of it that’re now all over Maguuma after they went after Mordremoth. Honestly, why people have such narrow minds about what could happen with revanants as far as PS is concerned is beyond me? The stuff with Zhaitan could be ‘these events happened before your character existed’ and still be doable if you chose to activate the original Personal Story like you can switch between it and S2 right now.

Technically it wouldn’t have to be all new either, since up until you go meet the orders it has very little to do with elder dragons. So the new PS could just pick up with new missions to join the orders who send you off to go help the remnants of the pact.

Are there better skills out there? Perhaps, but ultimately it comes down to what you enjoy playing like. ‘Useless’ skills suggest that everyone plays meta, which is not the case.

Dailies, Bank voice overs, Way points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kentaine.4692

Dailies based on account in a WvW complaint thread? Really, you’re using THAT argument here! That only makes a remote amount of sense in PvE!

A level 2 character has three dailies, 1 in PvE that is ‘level’ based (assuming they don’t have a level 15), 1 in PvP (probably capture point or get rank points) and WvW (probably camp capture or ruin capture)…

The OPs complaints are completely founded and even as a PvEer I can understand that (especially since the dailies have been turning the game into uncomfortable time instead of relaxation time by funneling me to WvW or PvP).

The WP issues stem from the Megaserver, the map you’re looking at may not actually be the one you’re zoning to. Only way to fix this would be to put ALL events on regular timers that end only after all maps complete them.

I’ve never heard a banker talking about buying/selling, always boasting that they’re rich which is kittening annoying when thinking about socio-economic issues of the world. What’s more annoying is the kitten bloody NPCs (that do absolutely nothing other than make an already crowded bank feel used as an ‘emersion’ trick) that walk up to the bankers that overrule my ‘f’ button when trying to talk.

I just opened 13985 bags

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kentaine.4692

Kentaine.4692

I’m sorry, Paradox, but for an RNG system to be functioning correctly 11,000+ bags should take ‘luck’ out of the equation. Most polls during elections or surveys have sample sizes smaller than that and generally show an accurate picture of the populaces thoughts when the actual voting days come around.

Also your perceived ‘better’ luck is word of mouth, collect 5.5k bags again and record the drop rates. The OP actually analyzed his sample set, saying you think you’ve only opened half as many to get the same amount of exotics means nothing. For all you know you opened 11k bags too, but didn’t count to make sure.

On a side not, even 58 exotics in 5.5k bags is discouragingly low since that puts it at .1 percent chance so you need to- in theory- open at least 1000 champion bags to get 1 exotic which could be any number of hundreds of exotics, thus throwing the chance for a precursor down the toilet to closer to .0005% chance at a precursor meaning you need to open over 10,000 champ bags to get a precursor. I’m inclined to believe the OP’s numbers.

Skimpy heavy armors (at least what fantasy games call ‘heavy’ or armors for ‘warrior’ professions) did exist in real world (pit fighter karma armor is very close to roman/gladiator, gladiator is more akin to tribal warrior armor and barbaric is a blending of roman/gladiator and tribal), so again reality is probably their excuse for armor designs for the professions. So I wouldn’t call those a more accurate comparison, I’ve seen chain mail pants in other games that looked good (which should be the first priority designing armor for pixels).

Sorry, I had to. SO sick of PvPers/WvWers throwing a similar argument in my face as a work around the issues with PvE dailies. It’s BS is what it is, this (the engineer or ‘x profession’ marathons) and the 2 fractal dailies that pop up consistently in PvE- that if you don’t have fractal buddies- means you’re looking at PvP or WvW for the third one.

Some day you’re going to see the two you don’t have as the daily, then you’ll be really kittened off because you’ll HAVE to go to PvE or WvW or spend money/gold/gems for another character slot or two.

The realistic reason really is a joke, but probably the answer to the OPs question.

I’m all for reasonable shoulder pads (not the 2 ton ones from other games) and swords that don’t look like you’d need to have super human strength to lift (saddly less and less of them since release) but this is still a fantasy world where real world physics don’t apply and I wish game developers would understand this and give it as a logical excuse to the complainers about how armor looks.

Ultimately in a world with magic and bullets, armor is peakitten feathers. It’s just for looks.

Seriously, what’s to stop an elementalist from just igniting your flesh beneath the plate mail anyway? I’ll tell you what, different magic! Not armor. Not only that, but once guns were invented heavy armor should have gone out the window if we’re tying this to reality now. Everyone should be wearing light/medium because it makes the most sense in a world with the great equalizer that bullets were in our world’s history. Why do you think the colonials fought in what they would wear to church? Their tech at the time couldn’t stop a bullet and once we got kevlar and what not it was put underneath cloth and weighed a lot less than steel.

I’ve leveld 2 characters in WvW (meaning, yes, I’ve tried it). Don’t like it. I have the balthazar back piece (because I wanted it and meaning I’ve tried sPvP). Hate it.

All this new daily has done is remind me how much I bloody hate PvP. I missed Jormag by 10 minutes today after getting home from work so I jumped- against my better judgement and desire- into PvP. Yeah, I finished my dailies, but halfway through the challenge we were winning (barely) and they magically captured all three points without having someone at at least one of them (I was there, alone). HOW THE HELL! If that’s a mechanic in the map itself, kitten that ANET. Your PvP is crap on top of putting me in a mind set and emotional state I hate being in.

All of this because I missed Jormag by 10 minutes. Get rid of defeat ‘x’ world boss and replace it with defeat world boss (any of them) so I can finish it on my time without stressing about missing a 15 minute window every two hours. The new dailies royally kittened casuals over.

Pardon my french, this is the mindset PvP puts me in whether I win OR lose- hence why PvE is my preferred play style. It makes me feel like the times I’ve been in a car accident, it isn’t comfortable and takes hours to cool down after.

A thought I had is that Warriors specialization could be dual wield two handed weapons. Two 2h Hammers/Greatswords anyone? :b

I could finally understand the ‘overpowered’ complaints about specialization if this happened. 2-handed weapons do more base damage than one handed counterparts so wielding 2 would be ridiculous. Not to mention having 4 sigils equipped at once? Even if the skills did barely anything in addition to the base damage of a greatsword or hammer they’d probably be doing more damage than anything out right now.

I would like Kymswarden to have a one handed counterpart (like it is in GW1) though.

Capes did NOT work perfectly in GW1. They floated a scaled six inches off of my shoulders, they were hideous and short (like their skirts, short not hideous, which I do actually want back) and had very little motion. Where capes DID work was City of Heroes, may it rest in peace. But even then I usually went without on most characters and there was still clipping issues but were easily ignored most of the time.

Saying that, I did look at my warrior recently on the loading screen and think she really needed a cape to complete her look but she’s the only one out of 13 characters I feel like it would look any good on. It’s a low priority for me, especially since back pieces aren’t dye-able.

I lean towards the thinking that a skill without power behind it isn’t helped by any mechanic, and if that- as utility skills- is the case for the Revanant than you’re just blowing hot air.

Save it till you actually see numbers and what boons/conditions the different swaps actually provide. For all you know they may not even give one stack of might so you won’t have to worry about a Rev directly powering up its- hypothetically- subpar damage.

Ele’s have more skills than Revs will (unless Revs can swap between 5+ legends), you build them with a glyph build and they pretty much have 32 different ones too since Glyphs do something different depending on what you’re attuned to. Yet, according to you, what you really think is OP is ranger so why are you QQing about a class with just an off hand remark about its mechanics if you don’t care about Eles?

Yeah, 12-18 months is more like it.

A demo is a far cry from ‘ready’, 4-8 months gives time to for the demo (6 weeks is about 1.5 months, we’ll say 1 now since January is over). Then they need to sign up waves of beta testers to get enough people to actually stress the content- then fix bugs and test again (1-3 months). Then they need to market the game before its release (pre-orders, making it fresh in gamer’s minds) for about a month. So, we have 3 to 5 months until release. Perhaps 8 is a bit out there, but 4 definitely isn’t. 8 could be if something goes horribly wrong, like people get bugged in their glider and can fly from Heart of Maguuma all the way to Ebonhawke. I’d rather they fix issues like that instead of scrapping it all together a month after releasing the expansion (cattle-pult in Gendarrin Fields still feels like it should have an animation instead of a load screen to me to get to that Vista).

If it were 3 months or less out, I’d expect a ton more info about the expansion as well as a semi-solid date of release. So far we don’t even have basics (cost, release date, pre-order date, etc…).

If they aren’t working alongside the development team of HoT perhaps they’ll give us S1 during the hiatus in one form or another.

If nothing is going to come out between now and then… well… guess I’m hopping in for 1 second to grab my daily gift and signing off before too much longer- I might explore all the zones on my Ranger for a few days- until HoT. After all the interruptions of S2, this is a painful wait.

Althea, she’s a legend right? I mean honestly, I spent so much time finding her the perfect wedding gift for Rurik, lazy bum, only so she could die.

Ideally, the next LS would branch away from Maguuma (perhaps head into northern Shiverpeaks or further east into uncharted Ascalon) as something comes up deserving a bit of our attention regarding Jormag or Kralkatorikk as those who bought the expansion take down Mordremoth and help out whenever we have a spare moment to WP away from Maguuma. Those who don’t get the expansion will be the first strike into the next Dragon’s domain.

There will be new content outside the expansion?
I’ve had a few people already tell me already they wouldn’t be getting it and they would probably just quit playing. The most reasonable complaint that I’ve heard from them was that players will be off playing the expansion leaving a large portion of the players behind with nothing to progress on. It does bother me because I’ve played with some of them for almost 10 years and now they are having their community taken away from them.

When have they ever said they would stop LS? Seriously, you’re going off hype train now for your fears. If it didn’t come from a Dev it CANNOT be taken seriously (especially since a lot of what Devs have said in the past can’t be taken seriously as well, though we are finally getting scavenger hunting for Pres.). Also, every MMO I have ever played has done free stuff between expansions. This isn’t new. CoH had issue updates between xpacs (then Villains came out and so did Going Rogue) which progressed its story to a degree. WoW has raids (does WoW have a coherent story? I never paid attention) and gear treadmill between xpacs.

Why wouldn’t GW2 which has some of the best content (story wise) building up to their xpacs I’ve seen do the same? I mean, WoW has absolutely no connection between BC and WotLK (playing WC3 gives a bit of a connection between those two), you just suddenly go to Icecrown because a new villain pops up out of nowhere (this is even more abundantly clear between the next expansions for WotLK between MoP and MoP between WoD).

GW2 has 6 elder dragons we KNOW about, 5 expansions alone for those. Not to mention the mystery surrounding the Gods’ disappearance and what’s been going on in Cantha or why hasn’t Palowa Joko tried taking over the world again and many other questions regarding the state of the world.

GW2 had a crazy Sylvari who thought she was doing something to help the world- using Destinies Edge and the Pact as an example to just DO something about the threat though in the wrong way- but unleashed one of the other Elder Dragons fully. Season 2 showed us how Mordremoth’s awakening affected the world and gave us clues towards tracking him down to bring the fight to him. BOOM Expansion where we fight Mordremoth.

It actually ties together. Especially if they use LS during this time to show a different dragons influences, why wouldn’t Jormag or Bubbles attack while half (those who buy the expansion) are busy fending of Mordremoth now that we’ve shown we can take down Zhaitan when our attention is focused on him? Mordy was still sleeping for that, poor fool, the others were probably just waiting for a distraction before pouncing.

Let us switch between Specializations!

I’m hoping for 2 to start off with and then 1 for future expansions.

Can’t wait for the Deep Sea expansion (probably with under water weapon specializations)… an entire world underwater, hopefully they get some of the more annoying issues with water combat taken care of by then.

3 new Biomes = just 3 new maps?

Three biomes (example: ascalon, kryta, shiverpeaks…) stacked on top of each other. Just 5 new ‘maps’ as shown on the world view would be 15 new maps this way. I think it’s kinda clever. Cram up to 15 maps into the space of 5. I just hope you can jump from the canopy all the way down to the roots in some places… and no, I won’t use a glider.

Channel the power of pre-god Kormir.

We will be obnoxious and insanely illogical in our gameplay, and take credit for everything everyone else does!

Wouldn’t that mean we’re finally sticking up for ourselves and taking credit for what we do though? Isn’t this a good thing?

Are Masteries limited to just the jungles?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Kentaine.4692

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are Far Shiverpeak Masteries when we go fight Jormag a few more years down the line or Crystal Desert Masteries when we go after Kral, or Deep Sea Masteries when we go after Bubbles (I can’t decide if an entire expansion underwater would be a good or bad thing… I think it would be good if they had 4-5 new weapons to use underwater but can’t think of what they could be aside from staff and sceptre/focus)… etc. Maybe they’ll even put masteries in for Orr from LS updates as a way to help clean up the place (even though it doesn’t actually clean it up).

The specialization is where you get skills that can be used outside of the mastery zones.

Mursaat would be cool if they add them to HoT, not Tengu.

Tengu have felt more like a Bubbles addition to me from the beginning. I could see them in the Deep Sea Dragon’s expansion.

Are you perhaps confusing Tengu with Largos? Tengu are the bird people, why would you associate them with the water dragon?

Because every Tengu I’ve talked to in game has a definite Canthan feel to it (their accents/dress should have gone the way of the dinosaurs if they’d been native to Tyria since they would have learned speech from Tyrians over 250 years). Bubbles is preventing them from returning home since his domain is the sea dividing the continents.

Had they been given the same accent, or at least one that wasn’t inspired by Asia, then I could see them as native Tengu to Tyria and not from the already established Tengu civilization in Cantha. Them walling off behind a wall and refusing outsiders explains why they didn’t lose the accent if they were from Cantha originally.

I don’t understand why they put Largos in to be honest. I really don’t, first time I came across them I thought they were humans wearing some contraption that would be more effective in the air for gliding than traveling through water. Seeing some of the risen I can only think the Largos were an after thought to explain something which did not need explaining… why the Dwayna priestess (or whichever it is) looks like a Largos instead of a human. Easy answer, Zhaitan’s influence warped her specifically. Instead they invented Largos because someone thought the design was cool and should have been other places than Orr.

Here’s what living world does, at least so far… it builds into the next dragon. I completely understand why the actual dragon story should be an expansion. I don’t want to wait the 2-3 years of LS releases something this scale would require. I’d be 60 by the time we killed the last dragon and finally opened the sea routes back to Cantha.

Edit:

Margonites glowed, perhaps a branch of Abaddon’s minions somehow showed up in Maguuma during Nightfall and were left without a leader when he was replaced by Kormir and created their own civilization in the last 250 years.

Mursaat were floating humans, Seers looked like aliens. Neither glowed.

The figures shown looked a lot more like Seers than Mursaat.

Except for their bodies glowed. Seers weren’t decked out in armor from head to toe like the Mursaat.

Edit:
Apparently neither were the mursaat (checked Wiki), they always looked like they were in game since their skin seemed to be the same color as their armor on my older system.

Lore wise Seer wouldn’t make sense. The Seers dwindled over time (not due to the war and according to the few seers you meet in GW1) even without being assaulted by the dragons. Mursaat were just in hiding until they united with the White Mantle.

Ending solo play

Kentaine.4692

This has never been a ‘solo’ game. 90 times out of 100 I’ve had somebody else jump in on an event I was doing or help kill a Vet I was fighting.

You won’t need to party up. The harder content will probably be like the Tower of Nightmares zergs or scales up and down depending upon how many people will be there.

There is a thief with a rifle in the trailer

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Kentaine.4692

Are you certain it’s a thief? Did you see it do any attacks? This is one of the problems with weight classified armors instead of class classified, you can make a ranger look like an engineer and an engineer look like a thief.

With wardrobe I can even wear a thief hood now as a ranger.

Edit: It’s probably a thief, but who is to say there isn’t 2 specializations? This is all uncomfirmed info yet and still just hype train.
