I’m gonna say no, maybe allow preset templates, but the money sink really needs to be in there. In the last half month alone inflation has become a joke, the perma hair stylist has gone up 700 gold from 2k. A lot of the legendary weapons are seeing spikes as well. And the price change in silk cloth (granted it is due to ascended gear) is a joke, from around 6 copper to 1 silver 8 copper per scrap in a matter of days.

Bring back the templates, but keep the costs of resetting the points. Perhaps even add more gold sinks in (like a barber that’s 5g a cut for a level 80).

Better yet, I wish games would get away from everyone has to walk the same speed. When there’s as big a difference in height as the Norn and Charr they really should have sped up their movement motions. It is the only reason why I can’t stand playing charr/norns. They just move to slow, and the charr animation is a joke at that speed. They seem to defy gravity.

Unfortunately, I agree that they should never do a race change because of the personal story. It sorta cements your character as that race since the story chain starts in the tutorials (which you can’t get back to). I’m sorry you crafted a legendary for a character you hate.

Even if they do end up allowing you to change the race, it probably won’t be for years. So either get used to the norn and hold out for that or delete them and reroll.

I’ve ran my d/d ele like that before, and it worked all right for PvE. THEN I leveled a warrior, the difference between the two was staggering. The warrior killed things just as fast, if not faster, and never died against mere veterans unlike the elementalist.

Then again, I could just be bad at playing an elementalist. It’s also sad that the only viable ele seems to be d/d, especially since they have the health and armor rating of tissue paper to be forced into such close proximity.

I’m against this. As nice as it would be to have a reward for being nice to new players, the forums really isn’t the place for that. It’s isn’t a Forum Wars, or a MMOFPG (massive multiplayer online forum playing game), but the forums are just a place to go find answers to questions which you may not be able to get in the game while playing it.

Player to player trading system

Another thing against the mail system, you can’t inspect what they’re giving you before you give yours (or vice versa), which increases the ‘so and so scammed me’ argument since there is no way to decide against the trade. Once you send your item they can take it, even if you don’t want what they gave you.

Also, they don’t have a system of trading one for another. They have a system of buying what you want. But, like say you want to trade a legendary to someone for only 500g but want it to go to that specific person, if you put it on the auction house it’ll be gone before you can type out ‘its on the trading house’. Granted, if you’re giving a legendary for 500g you should really know the intended well enough to know you’ll get your gold. Just using it as an example.

I would like this, as it is right now my warrior’s ‘underwater’ mask looks like the heavy plate helmet from the collectors… has absolutely nothing covering my nose/mouth. This may have been an accident, but that’s how it is in the game right now. What really annoyed me was the level 80 rare ‘mask’ I got in the tower is a helmet only and not a rebreather too.

Make minis more desirable

Mini battles (polymock arena) with dedicated achievements, ladders and tournaments.

Problem solved.

EDIT: you wouldn’t make it skill based, rather completelty statistical. Give it 3 stats, attack, defense and vitality and assign different minis different stats according to rarity. The actual gameplay would be very much like rock paper scissors turn based (similar to the game in metrica province). JOB DONE.

EDIT2: To make it a really unique system, give each type of mini a special attack (altho I realise this would dramatically effect development time) that can only be deployed once per battle.

Or make it like the golem chess in Metrica Province? Step on powerups for different effects but everything else is a level playing field.

Balance of armor styles...

Kentaine.4692

I agree with you mostly, (mainly the elementalist as the biggest offender), but monks/necros/mesmers (the other original ‘light’ armor wearers) had plenty of more or less modest attire (even if it did accentuate the female form, I actually think Mesmer was the flip side to balance the elementalists). And I’m not advocating more super short skirts (though some other than the starter would be nice since it’s dying is funky), but pants. I’m really tired of the only way to see my characters legs is from the front view (men and women). And I do agree that some of the heavy sets were top heavy (like elite Templar or was it knight?) on women since they had no leg coverings even though they should have. Kurzik and Sunspear showed very little actual flesh but looked good. I was just expecting more of that, especially for medium armor, based on the styles in GW1.

I also think with future expansions GW1 was getting it right. The ritualists (I remember) had pretty similar armor for men and women for each set. Same with paragons (in fact theirs was pretty much identical). And I also completely agree that the medium armor is TOO full of trench coats. Too many skirts in heavy/light too many coats in medium. 50/50 was, I thought, how it was going to be when they talked about a balance to style preference. So far it isn’t. The heavy armor especially disgusted me as I crafted through it, it all looked like tubes of metal on the chest and most actually fit men’s physique better than women’s.

From here on out it would be nice to be 50/50, preferably two sets released each time for each type (even if that means they come out twice as slow). But unfortunately the only way new sets are being released is through the gem store or as the next tier of armor (which is annoying and unnecessary).

I also know that a lot of the classes in GW1 did have that one or two for females that were over the top, and (not surprisingly) popular. But where GW2 all share the same styles across the professions, it leaves a stale ‘been there done that’ look across my characters.

I really think that scanty armor on both genders is how it should go.

Sorry you keep getting kicked. But yeah, the reason we don’t speak out is because you get kicked if you don’t know the run at all.

Also, I completely agree. I wish the elitists would keep it in the guild and not get angry when randomly finding someone to join the group isn’t up to spec. It really isn’t the systems fault, except it should require 4/5 to kick not just whoever clicks in the time allotted to vote or if you’re the leader.

Kentaine.4692

Yes, those ones are… two out of how many though? Also they could easily be adapted to Largos. If they’re wearing a wet suit it means they go on land primarily, because if you live in the ocean you don’t need a wet suit, you would have evolved to live and function in your environment.

There’s roughly 39, maybe 4 could be argued as ‘half-naked’, but the majority of them are still only half naked to the people who see your character because of all the skirts. I’m not saying I want more naked costumes either. I’d like more PANTS. There’s ONE pair of pants for light armor that I don’t have to spend gems to get. The rest all have a massive skirt attached to them. It’s annoying when you want to make a fighter themed spell caster, a skirt would get in the way.

I’ve heard Ele is severely lacking in PvP compared to ALL of the others, but I found a nice PvE one. I use two daggers, keep water attuned for the regen, then cycle through conjured weapons for massive damage (frost bow AoE is even better than the firestorm from the elite fire blade because it slows too) or if I need protection I equip a stone shield. Doubt that style would fly in PvP though.

Kentaine.4692

Also, from what I’ve seen, they’re always wearing some sort of a full body swimsuit which stands in contrast to the most half-naked armorskins in the game.

Don’t start with most of the armor is half-naked skins rumor… look closer. You’ll notice the majority of those who wear that kind of armor (because they like it) are slight variations of the same, exact evocative sets with random pieces like shoulders/boots/gloves thrown in to add a flare of personal preference. Look up the actual armor sets (fully equipped) on the wiki before you accuse the outfits in GW2 as being mostly ‘half-naked’. The majority of the are ugly, multi-layered, visual messes. Guild Wars never should have been demanded to provide more ‘practical’ armor. They’ve always had the option there, I recall Kurzick was awesome looking (and a style that I was hoping would have been more represented in GW2) and the elite version covered EVERYTHING and only one shoulder was bare on the basic. The impractical armor choices are severely lacking now because of it. Instead the majority looks more like Luxon heavy armor, it was an eyesore to me back in GW1.

Sorry for my rant, I’m just sick of this ‘fantasy armor shouldn’t be bikinis’ mentality being expressed EVERYWHERE. Especially when there is absolutely no evidence to support it in GW and never has. The only ‘bikini’ armor in GW were gladiator armor (historically accurate except it actually covers the genitalia/breasts), scars (showing off necromantic perseverance and what you’ve obtained your power from) and tattoos (same as necros but for monks), granted a lot of the old female ele armor was pushing it and a few of the sets may have been better off matching the male counterparts more. Can’t find fault in ritualist either, it was, again, influenced by the historical attire of what their class was based on (medicine women/fortune tellers, perhaps more influenced by native American than Asian, and at least the men had similar armor).

As for the Largos, yeah I’d like a redesign even if they don’t become playable… first time I ran across one I wondered why on earthy they put in WoW elves with a squirrel suit on.

Go join a faction, okay cool. I like Tybalt, Forgal and the other are good too. Tralala, Claw Island is attacked! Oh no, come Tybalt… wait, who’s this plant guy and why should I listen to him? Oh, he helped my order’s leader, so what that doesn’t instantly make him my friend. I barely know my order’s leader, it’s Tybalt I know.

Well off to Claw Island…

Grenth no! Tybalt is dead! Well, time to get to eighty and ignore the personal story.

I still haven’t completed the personal story once, I’ve gone further but I just don’t give two tufts of dolyak fur of being sidekick to a 25 year old plant dude that looks like rotting cabbage. I like the sylvari as a race, but Trahearne was poorly designed. He really should have been in different armor to fit in with his surroundings. He’s surrounded by the Vigil, Priory, and the Order for crying out loud and he wears cultural armor? Gimme Caithe for that, better yet gimme all of Destiny’s Edge.

Unless, of course, I join a party you’re already in while representing another guild… Sadly, my guild’s name is Order of the Rising Dragon (had it in guild wars one and carried it over)… Three years after I made it the dragon rose and tried to destroy the world, guess I made a guild to the wrong thing. :P

Only thing wrong with the crafting I see is that all of it looks hideous, or at least the vast majority of what you can craft looks hideous.

I mean, seriously, why does my mithril sword look identical to my bronze one? Even more confusing, why does my MASTERWORK shirt look identical to my bottom fine one? And I’m not saying I want new textures for the armor skins, I want different armor skins since the ones already in crafting look bad and don’t even seem to have any influence from past ancestral armors (I normally play human, which really should have some influence from what came before). Instead they are all blobular armors designed to fit any species with minimal alterations.

That, and I guess, the insane jump of materials you need to craft from tier 5 mats to tier 6 and then tier 6 to ascended.

4: At least the name of the dragon preventing travel to Cantha
5: Actual diminished risen influence, Zhaitan’s supposed to be defeated remember?
6: Better 5-80 fine/masterwork armor styles (had to throw this in, they’ve bugged me since day one)

Maybe Scarlet’s death should be number one, I am really sick of her. I was sick of her after the Aetherblades. The toxic events just made me REALLY sick of her. I get you guys like your Sylvari creations and wanted a baddie from them to give there lore more of a footing (since they have only existed 26 years now), but kill her off already. Don’t forget we still have at least four elder dragons to take care of still.

About ascended armor's

Posted by: Kentaine.4692

Kentaine.4692

I’m going to have to side on the majority of armor designs in this game were to promote transmutation stone sales. There really are only a handful I like out of hundreds of options, most of it is too bulky or busy with excessive ‘detail’. I personally don’t like the look of any of the ascended gear, male or female. Almost makes me think the devs design the armor to what they, personally, think is good looking and stick it in without any peer review what-so-ever. And the fire aura armor just annoyed me, it was basically retextures of armor we already had. That laziness didn’t fly for me with the armor in GWEN, but apparently they thought it was popular… not. It was a requirement to boost your GW2 account and that’s probably a big reason why a lot of GW1 players went after them.

Saddly they really shouldn’t have done it that way. If they’d made a butt load of more attractive armor sets then I would buy more trans stones as I went back and forth on what I liked.

Sadly, I can. Auto decline or not, they’ll ask why I don’t want to duel them. Either I’m declining because I’m not in the mood to duel, which then makes them badger me in map and whisper or the auto decline is on, not even giving them the option to duel me, and they ask me why they can’t challenge me. That then leads to the same effect.

Hopefully they wouldn’t find a way around the auto-decline either. I remember playing another game on a PvE server and getting ganked by an opposing player 10 levels over me because my SPLASH damage activated my willingness to fight them or I right clicked on the wrong pixel against a person 40 levels over me. I don’t see that happening in GW, since the factions all work together, it’s just an example of how people have gotten around other games’ supposed auto decline mechanics.

It’s really a side-effect of the internet in general more than anything. The feeling of anonymity lets people do things and say things to others they wouldn’t be as likely to face to face.

But, I would like to see some form of actual dueling enter the game because you guys are right. It’d be nice to see what better stats than what is provided in WvW are like against friends/guildies even if I never participated.

[Merged] Think "Mounts" outside the box!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Kentaine.4692

Kentaine.4692

The thing about mounts in Tyria is that, well, I can’t ever recall seeing a horse… ever. Not in GW1 or GW2. About the only thing I could see as a ‘mount’ is a dolyak and they’re slow, lumbering beasts of burden, slower than running.

GW got around the whole mount by being able to teleport virtually everywhere. Unfortunately, as much as it may help in WvW, the lore just doesn’t support mounts. Mounts probably won’t ever be added because GW tends to stick to its lore much more than other MMOs I’ve played.

Also, most professions get essentially a 25% boost to their base speed (the same as a lot of game’s ‘mounts’ give the only difference is you don’t have a horse, and other players or skills can boost it even more).

I admit, airborne battles could be cool, but again Tyria just doesn’t have feasible mounts for it. The magic can’t make you fly and the flying machines typically are slow blimps designed more like drop ships. Can’t fly dragons either, they’re evil except Glint. Glint was in GW1, she was killed by Krakkatorik (the elder dragon of Ascalon) for betraying him. Drakes aren’t aerial beings either, they’re more like large lizards.

Basically, GW distances itself from all of the other fantasy games by not just copy and pasting everything they have. It’s the biggest reason why GW has always stayed on my computer when other MMOs came and went.

Open world Duels [Merged]

Posted by: Kentaine.4692

Kentaine.4692

First of all, I don’t like dueling. I agree that the majority of duelers don’t pester or harass the PvEers. The problem, though, is that the minority that do pester the majority of PvEers which is why a lot of us have such hatred for the idea of dueling. Maybe 3 out of 15 duelers would request a fight with me in other games and only 1 out of those 3 (usually max levels challenging my low level) would then harass me when I decline. But that 1 would harass nearly every avatar who walked by, then gloat about his accomplishments of beating PvEers naïve/new/brave enough to accept to the duel. (FYI, PvEers aren’t experienced in the fast pace action of PvP, putting them at a drastic disadvantage to PvPers) That being said, I do have alternative ideas.

Arenas for random dueling in every city sounds fine to me, especially if they don’t allow a challenge to someone outside of a certain proximity of the arena. The proximity being the arena floor, allowing random spectators if they want to in the stands.

Duels in open world so you can battle in the ruins of Droknar (or I guess even in the LA bank, though I would actually prefer if abilities were negated in cities entirely-save the arena and speed increases) would be fine too, as long as the challenge is restricted to party and/or guild members and both party members have to be, again, within a certain proximity of each other before the dual can be requested, giving players time to discuss what the party is for. They could even work in a system of choosing to exemp or bump up the levels, which could be discussed prior to the challenge in party chat. Also, duelers should not affect spawn sizes for events, but are still able to be attacked by creatures during the fight. That could make for interesting battles that I might actually participate in or watch. Heck, it’d be cool if they could even allow spectators to pay gold for stalkers/bears/destroyers (animals depending on city) to attack the people in the arenas (1-2 animals per active duel), the animals you kill grant boons to the PvPers.

Also, the ability to decline (auto or manual) would be a no brainer. Perma ban is WAY too far for those who harass, it’s a quick way to alienate everyone if you put such a strict punishment on something because the PvPers would have grounds to demand the same for PvEers who step out of line the first time. Maybe an account ban on even challenging a player and use of map, whisper chat for 1 day to a week (depending upon the consistency that they harass) would be more suitable. If they don’t get the hint, then start banning their account entirely for a 1 day to a week. If after that, I could see perma banning coming into effect. The offender, of course, would still be able to fight in the designated arena areas if they’re challenged.

Again, I completely agree that the majority of people who duel don’t harass or bully those who aren’t interested. But the problem with open world dueling is the minority of you harass the majority of those who don’t want to.

Balance of armor styles...

Crafted armor all looks the same. This is the largest disappointment I have with the game since it released last year. You have 5 tiers, each with 3 sub tiers. I understand it could have been several more months of development, but I would like to see more choices of EASILY crafted armor.

I had hoped some of GW1 armor, or similar, would make its way in, and I believe it would be nice to see it make its way in the game through this. I would like to see the second fine and (or at least) the masterwork sub tiers swapped out with different styles that lean more towards GW1 (this would also provide the balance of attractive/sexy armors- cough GW1 elementalist cough- compared to the bland/practical ones you can already craft).

I understand why the armor went this way (to cater to the naysayers for the chainmail bikini of other games, something I never felt actually applied to GW1- except maybe some of the light armor which I liked anyway). But when learning about the game I was told there would be a balance, as it stands I don’t see this balance. There’s about 7 times as many visually bulky/busy ‘light’, 10 times as many bulky/busy ‘medium’, and 5 times as many bulky/busy ‘heavy’ armor pieces compared to slimming ones and even fewer evocative ones. Don’t believe me? Wiki the armor sets for light human female versus elementalist/necromancer of GW1. This was NEVER a problem in GW1. I usually mix and match, but I don’t like ‘bulky’ so I’m left with little options. The actual character models are so much better than GW1, I just don’t understand why the armor consistently hides that on all armor groups. I long for GW1 armors, but prefer the gameplay of GW2…

I was kinda disappointed by the crafting for this reason. Each tier of materials could have easily had 3 sets of different armor if they had used armor from or based on GW1. Instead the first two fine sets and the masterwork all look alike. If they’d ported over GW1 armor with some touch ups to fill the redundancy of those it would have made the customization of GW2 rival all of its competitors. Not to mention it would have provided a balance to the sexy V.S. ugly… I mean practical… they said they would have.

My gripe is the risk versus reward for opening the explorable zone presents. I’m really sick of 4-5 things spawning ALL with multiple interrupts or with stacking might/regen so it takes all my necro’s skills to stay alive. Not complaining about the difficulty since I CAN stay alive, but it’s disgusting that by the time the battles over two things happen. One: the presents have disappeared which have dropped for me because you have to pause to pick them up usually causing me to die, and two: the drop rate of the spawn is disgustingly low for even the event salvage used that can be traded in for useless junk (granted that may be fixed if I had greater than 85% magic find but really shouldn’t be).

The endless “living world” without an expansion really isn’t feasible because I CANNOT see them adding Cantha or Elona back in without an expansion, the map doesn’t support it. I know it’s only year one but don’t forget Factions came out one year (exactly) after Prophecies did. Also, nothing’s really happened in this past year. Zhaitan was defeated but instead of turning to fight the other elder dragons (Primordius, Kralkatorrik, Jormag and the unnamed one preventing trade with Cantha) they brought back Tequatl? How does that work? If Tequatl’s master is dead, wouldn’t you think the lieutenant could NOT come back in a world event because he is dead too? I guess I had an issue with the endless living world too. A lot has happened, but nothing truly noteworthy or game progressing. All they’ve done is introduce distractions (fractals and Scarlet) while the Elder Dragons continue to ravage Tyria. Furthermore, Scarlet’s existence and the power she has doesn’t make any sense either with Zhaitan’s defeat. The Nightmare court only exists because of Zhaitan’s influence on the dream which is fading. Guess I should have brought this up elsewhere since this event is a yearly thing but meh.

Good thing I joined up with the Vigil to stop the Elder Dragon… wait, there’s more? I didn’t sign up for that!

Us poor Solo Players

I get the tower is a group thing, but you bring 1 other person along for the (stated solo-able, and actually are easily soloed) instances and the scaling jumps beyond ridiculous. I’m not wearing ‘blue’ armor/weapons, not even ‘green’ or only ‘yellow’, but still can’t seem to make a dent in some of the spawns in those instances if I have a single friend with me once there’s four or five veterans wandering around. I can see dying a few times, but each time the two of us fell we should have been able to take down at least one vet instead of being lucky to kill a minion. ALSO, with ‘heavy’ unbroken armor no vet should be one hitting me like they were.

I know people complained it was too easy, but this release, and all since I started again with the Aetherblades are just aggravating. But that was their fix. Instead of making the scaling grade sharper they upped the baseline. It’s kinda forcing casual players to the way side. Which is sad, because I liked the game until this started happening. Maybe, if another event or two goes by and these issues aren’t addressed, I’ll just shelve the game and leave MMOs entirely since CoH was shut down last year. More people leave games because they’re hard and consistently frustrating instead of fun than because they’re boring (look at WoW for instance, they even made it easier which seemed impossible to me).

Fine, I get it, you want more money so you’re selling finishers (typically only seen in PvP) but adding that and the relentless tide of baddies that don’t seem to scale down if you try to destroy the off shoot alone was too much. Either mix in veterans or have the nightmare court require finishers. Don’t do both.

By the time I get the vet down after finishing off the knight/sorcerer/assassin I’m already being ganked by more knights/sorcerers/assassins the kraits and plant things. Once those are dead, again, I’m attacked by the vets. Do NOT do this in a future release. It’s nearly impossible for casual players to get these achievements after the whole ‘new’ release feeling goes away two weeks later when you release something else.

Anyone who has tried getting the aetherblade achievements after they became champion farms or the doors/champion kills for Halloween once the Nightmare Tower hit knows what I’m talking about. You have scaling techniques in place already, if having too many people is making it too easy make the curve of scaling sharper, not the baseline. I guess this may actually lie under the issue I’ve noticed that if you don’t play every day, heavily with new releases, you can’t keep up with the changing world aspect. Which, in my opinion, is just as unrealistic as waiting for expansions to change your world. Reality, unfortunately, doesn’t have this many life altering events this frequently.

Finally, I guess after being frustrated yet again with a real world release I guess I would rather see new professions/weapon proliferation more than I want an unceasing tide of achievement heavy events going on. Also, new in game armor sets (preferably easily crafted too) that don’t take weeks of grinding or $10 to buy for one character would be great, especially if they weren’t all trenchcoat/long skirt/moomoo themed. Bring back the sexy light armor (iceforge, luxon, tyrian), fitted medium armor (drakescale, studded, canthan, sunspear), and full plate armor (Kurzick, Templare, Platemail) styles of GW1 please. I’m tired of everyone (mail/female) being stuck with longer than knee length skirts or long coats. As it is now a lot of the ‘light’ armor looks as heavy or heavier than your ‘medium’ and ‘heavy’ armor.
