ranger runes were updated as far as I know.
Good news then.
Was surprised not to see Rune of the Traveler mentioned. While it’s not optimal for maximising damage output, it looks like a very common choice for generic PvE because of mesmers being extremely slow and having broken swiftness and broken blink.
It’s really just the lazy man’s rune of the centaur, and rune of the centaur is really just a map completion/wvw roaming utility skill for mesmer. There’s absolutely no reason to use it in dungeon PvE.
Well, the guide is called “PvE Class Guide”, not “Dungeons/Fractals Speedclear Guide”, so…
A very informative extensive guide.
Hmm, wreck should be spelled as wrack… as in Mind Wrack, not Mind Wreck.
My dictionary says it’s basically the same thing…
“Portal Exaunt” should be spelled as Exeunt, though.
as these companions include mini pets and illusions
The wiki however says that
The damage bonus for six superior runes applies for any summoned pet, such as Glyph of Elementals or Sigil of Demon Summoning, but not for illusions.

Many things mentioned in this thread have been severly nerfed, but the part about why you need a guardian is still true. I personally have seen a great difference in loot between the main mesmer and a guardian alt.
Me and a friend got suppressed yesterday while we were trying to organise a t4/t5 run in Dry Top. Pasting links for next events from guides, then reporting status on events – and here you go, suppressed and can no longer answer the “Events?” question in map chat.
With the new event at Crash Site #2, this is getting more annoying. I finally got used to using 5 to swap out, but now I’m also using 5 to drop that magical vine-stunning bar – and it obviously doesn’t work and I’m stuck with bundle skills.
Plus, if you use skill 5 to swap out a millisecond after the aspect expires, mostly likely you use a skill on some roaming mob and get crippled by in-combat speed…
When people read and hear about the new LS content, they are going to want to participate. Not being able to might just cost players.
Building up a guild and gathering on TS for an organised T5 run just to fail because of up-leveled noobs with poor gear, no traits and zero game skills who “want to participate” might cost players as well. Loyal and supporting ones, in this case.
One of the most annoying parts about Boss Blitz was the uplevels who’d scale the fights up but not be of any particular help because they’re wearing low level gear and don’t have the traits and possibly skills to be able to lend much of a hand. It was a complete pain to fight Boom Boom with half the group there being uplevels who are just making the turret harder to kill while supplying a quarter of the DPS that they should be bringing.
Quoted for truth.
Leveling a character to 80 takes about 2-3 weeks even for a complete novice (talking from experience). That’s a single LS episode, seriously – just go and get your character ready.
This is my point in talking about last year – there wasn’t an issue with uplevels. Boss Blitz was a Festival event, not part of the Living Story.
As for leveling a character to 80 in 2-3 weeks: LOL! That’s a good one. If I was a new player I would want to experience the world, not just rush to 80. I would hate that.
Oh no, there was. A lot. Knight events, levelers who farmed instead of doing the group effort, platform wipes at Marionette and so on, and so on, and so on… Unfortunately, up-leveled characters are a liability in group events.
I leveled up to 80 by casually playing a bit in evenings for 2-3 weeks and exploring the world, and it was a first serious MMO I started playing. Haven’t even run the QD train – luckily, my main was a sylvari, not a human. Leveling is fast and easy in this game, without any LOLs; full exploration might be tedious, though, and trait acquisition should be quite boring for alts and new players after the latest “improvement”.
If I have to choose only 3…
1. Blink not blinking (global – the same with ele’s and guard’s teleports).
2. Phantasmal Warden.
3. iLeap pathing issues and swapping issues.
(4. Broken swiftness on focus.)
(5. Portal Exeunt time left, Portal range indicator.)
I definitely agree that in-game world boss availability messaging is something that should be implemented and it’s something we would like to do.
I’ve posted about it earlier during the implementation of the megaserver system when talking about populating low-level maps, but it got merged into the megathread:
3. Let players know what is happening in the game and where it is happening!
- Would developers like to know why many people cosplay in hub cities and not play the game? The answer is simple: they don’t know what to do. Yes, they can go do a dungeon, but they may need a party and it gonna be long and unrewarding if they’re bad at it; they may go do a personal story step, but it’s unrewarding and so single playerish that it’s boring (and at some points it’s over anyway). They will not go explore because you have to walk through half a map to even stumble upon an event, and the one you stumble upon will most likely be unsoloable – and not worth the time anyway. In other words: this is a multi-player game, yet there are little means provided to us to “multi-play” as a whole server, and doubly so for players in small friend-only guilds (who are unable to read guild chats of larger social guilds they may join).
- Solution 1: make all major events always displayed on the whole world map. You open the map – you see one of the Balthazar chains being done – you hop on, contribute, everyone wins. If the map is hardcapped, just overlay it with some kind of red tint and make the event icons disappear.
- Solution 2: make a world event tracker similar to map/local event trackers. At any moment in time you can push the “Active world events: 7/50” button and see a list of events all over the world. It can be a UI button, an event tab in top-right corner, an “event fairy” summonable NPC, an inventory “asuran broadcasting stone” – whatever it takes to tell people what they can do.
- Solution 3: make a /world chat channel so that people can interact with others and write “We’re alone at Grenth pre, come help or it gonna fail!”, or “Tequatl turret defense set up, need DPS people!” without leaving the map (and risking their slot/losing progress from a contested waypoint) and wasting time cycling through cities.
I still think that showing all events in maps like Escape from LA and Dry Top which require group effort would’ve made life better for the majority of players, effectively eliminating the need to ask “Any events?” and the need to copy-paste over and over again something like this.
To avoid the possible clutter, there’s a simple solution: display only “events in range” on the minimap, but display all events on the map [M]. Or give players an option in the settings where they can choose event notification range for both maps.
For world bosses, as the megaserver system has been implemented anyway, an event fairy might be a better suggestion.

If I had to choose just one member of the team to fight along, I’d prefer fighting next to a smart asura with deep knowledge in technology driven by curiosity in an armored exoskeleton instead of a blondy skimpy-clad hiccupy lovey-dovey mesmer, a necro who can’t even spawn minions at the correct location and gets almost killed because of approaching a legendary villain without precautions, a ranger, and a dumb norn who likes to scatter mobs with his shield and to kill before getting vital information which could’ve saved countless lives throughout the whole Tyria, one person’s sister included.
So you’d rather hang out with an arrogant, impudent, impetuous, foolish child who idolizes a mass murdering psychopath?
You must’ve missed the talk to her after the LA attack chapters.
She doesn’t idolise a mass murdering psychopath. She’s amazed at her achievements in science and is the only one motivated to dig into it, while everyone else is busy with either their love relationships or mother-child relationships. She’s not much different in behaviour from other grown-up asura, actually.
Overall, it’s like these heroes are on a weekend trip to a theme park, but while the tired grandparents and infatuated parents are dicussing their daily casual affairs, the child is the only one who’s interested in discovering the park itself. And that’s why I think she’s far more useful as a companion than others, even with all the threats included.

Do you pick your classes for their power? O.o
Eh… do you pick your classes for their weaknesses?
Would’ve rolled elementalist, and guardian as an alt (or probably no alt as ele has enough AoE for tagging anyway).
And neither does Feedback. Animation happens but boons are still applied. Will need to test traited vs. untraited Wardens and other class reflects (guard/ranger/etc) for a better picture.
Noticed it too, but I thought it was working as intended and the golem was just applying boons itself…
Playing A Mesmer Is Like…
…jumping across a minefield on one leg with a glass of water on the head while juggling with three eggs, just because your bosses are jealous of you being good at juggling in the first place.
…driving an antique coach with three horses: everyone looks at you open-mouthed for a minute or two, but then turns on the stereo, puts the air-con to a comfortable temperature, and gets to their job 10 times faster than you.
…being a can opener next to a bunch of spoons, forks, and knifes: the poor occasionally need you to open a tin of beans, but rich people rarely eat tinned food and it is served opened in the restaurants anyway.
…being a 2 year patient who’s ready to see his next organ fail in the results of each new medical test.
…“okay, I can do it on my main, but I should just get my staff guard and tag for tons of loot here, or get my zerk ele and AoE those LS achievements in one go.”

Oh, I have one more. John Smith is a pseudonym, right?
Ah, skritt… now I don’t have any more questions to John Smith.
This would be an awesome idea IF they had an NPC in Prosperity talk about it. Something like,
NPC1: UGH! I hate this place! Sand gets EVERYWHERE! I’m constantly cleaning it out of my bags!"
NPC2: Yeah, me too. However I occasionally find valuable stuff so it’s not a total loss.I’m sure that would spark a few lightbulbs in players’ heads.
Ugh…
You’re in a desert. Walking on sand, sometimes sinking into quicksand. There’s a sandstorm blowing and revealing chests buried in sand. Sand is being blown into your face and you can find a mask and spectacles to protect your face from it. Dust Twisters and Dust Mites are attacking you, blinding you by raising clouds of sand, and you pick up loot covered in sand from their sandy bodies.
Now, if only we had an NPC who would give us a hint on why we’re getting sand in our inventory…
In addition to idle animations, the NPC comments that they make when you click on them are also inappropriate. Several times I am asked to talk to Marjory in both Episodes and she makes provocative comments each time.
I don’t remember a single time these random phrases from any NPC actually made sense in the context. Maybe they should be constrained to race cities only.
take the running animation of the sylvari for instance, it’s like they can’t get forward without swinging their arms like an idiot…
I like the running animation, it’s cute and I like my chraracter being cute. What I do not like though is the animation for running with a sword (or dual swords) – it’s really lame and makes me want to facepalm every time I see it. Seriously, it’s more of skiing then running with an unsheathed weapon.
Hm I think a strawpoll could help
Voted for “I don’t even bother doing them”, but would’ve voted for “I don’t do them because they’re wearisome” if that option existed.
Too easy? Probably they’re too easy for zerk warrior meta then, as I definitely lack DPS for all this DPS-meter stuff aka “kill monsters X and Y before they kill NPCs or time runs out”.
On the other hand, you enjoy the extra 1 hour of playing, while I don’t even feel like replaying it all over again for achievements at all.
(spoilers ahead)
Zephyrite’s ships have crashed, and Morning just died in front of Marjory. Obviously, that’s the best time for Marjory to check if her hair looks alright!
Marjory’s sister is dead, and Kasmeer is delivering the sad news to the rest of the team. Must not be such a big deal, though, as she’s casually stretching herself.
Usually I’m the last person to complain about immersion in video games, but default idle animations like these were designed to make characters look attractive and somewhat “hot”. So it’s not at all surprising that it looks utterly jarring in completely inappropriate situations, which we have a lot (and will have more every 2 weeks) in the new LS S2.
I suggest adding another “neutral” set of animations for all races and genders (at least females) which can be used in story instances and similar situations. As a semi-solution, this set may even be a part of the usual animation with the most “casual” parts cut out.

M*A*S*H was a great show, a comedy set in a war. Sometimes one has to hold onto a sense of humor to keep going and remain sane in the face of huge adversity.
I just began typing a reply about M*A*S*H but I see you’ve already mentioned it. Thanks. That’s a great example.
EPurple, I am sorry but I had to report your post. Such behaviour solves nothing but may instead lead to sanctions to the whole thread.
P.S. Updated the first post to include info about the new frifox’s thread.

You don’t have to spend gems for BL key…..it just take some time to earn them.
And for people who do not want to do map completion for BL keys, buying skins during the introduction 1 ticket period from key farmers is even easier. And if you don’t have enough gold, gem → gold is there for you and excludes the gamble.
A whole new season with a brand spanking new (and particularly beautiful, in my opinion) area to explore and all the rewards are just vendor trash, nothing unique so far after playing through.
I already got 2 scarfs, a bunch of new recipes from chests and vendors, a lot of lockpicks for new chests, another stack of geodes for new weapon recipes, and quite a few lodestones from dust mites event. Not mentioning the achievement points which advance me to the next achievement reward chests.
So… people who explore and study the game, who create timetables and come up with strategies get rewarded more than people who occasionally kill a passing devourer because that is how they want to play. Ones get new skins, recipes, T6 mats and charged lodestones (3g each), and others get vendor trash. Is it broken? Sorry, no, working as intended.
I repeat, I do not like crafting, simple as that. You are saying I would recover it easily, but you still want me to go and spend a reasonable amount of time standing at the crafting station clicking buttons, the bit I get extremely bored of. And you assume when I say ‘very little play time’ that means playing every day. Also want to explain how you make 2G for 1 minute of dedicated time?
With a guide and a crafting booster, leveling 2 professions to 400 takes about 1 hour and a bit more. It also gives you about 17 levels IIRC, which is really good for leveling alts.
Also want to explain how you make 2G for 1 minute of dedicated time?
By selling what you can craft at 500. I leave the exploration of the market (a fairly simple one though compared to professional flipping) to you as the less people try to study the game they’re playing, the more money people like me can get out of them.
Anyway my point is I like skins which are themed and specific to the storyline, they are very cool, but this release hasn’t added any, that’s what people are a bit peeved at.
You not liking a skin is not equal to a skin not existing.
Which defeats the whole basis of GW2’s ‘play the way you want’, and I dislike crafting, Simple as that.
I want to play Elin, but I can’t. I want to get 100g for pressing 1-1-1 for 5 minutes, but I can’t. /ragequit
Surprise: you can’t play any game in the world “the way you want”. Games exist because there are rules, like oceans exist because there are shores. No rules mean no effort and no motivation. The only difference with my example is in the extent of interpretation of the thesis.
In GW2, you get rewarded for anything you do, which lets you play how you want. But if you want a specific reward, you need to do specific things – that’s what makes it a game. Simple as that.
I just don’t see it as worth spending time on.
You also don’t think that returning all your investments in crafting to 500 in 2 months and a pure 2g profit a day for 1 minute of work after that is worth it, right?
(edited by Lishtenbird.2814)
I dislike crafting. I am willing to give my gold to those who enjoy crafting if a given desirable crafted item is tradable.
My gold is a return on time/effort invested in the game.
These weapon skins define success in the game ? Interesting take.
People who dislike crafting always make me smile.
Since I’ve leveled crafting to 500, I’ve been receiving ~2g for 1 minute of work each day. I’ve broken even in about 2 months and get an extra free dungeon run each day from that moment.
I think my only issue with it is the fact that the ambrite weapons are crafted weapons (correct me if I’m wrong) and it would be nice to be able to gain one as a reward for playing the update content instead of having to craft them, which is a bit of a pain for those of us who don’t craft.
Leveling weaponsmithing to 400 is 20g, huntsman is 20g, artificer is 9.4g, and that’s assuming you never played the game and had no materials. You can get it by grinding dungeons in a couple of days, plus, crafting is a part of the game so it’s natural to require it as a part of the reward mechanism, and you usually level up crafting if you play the game the “supposed” way – along with character leveling.
No problem with working for something, the RNG is just a no-go
The RNG has been toned down here by allowing to identify fossils into any kind you want. Weight restrictions are rather annoying on skins, I agree, but this freedom of choice on weapons is in a good place I believe.
ANet adds a new Gem Store skin, which can be bought by doing any content you like and converting gold to gems.
Players rage: “Everything can be bought with gold! There is no reward for playing the game! Give us skins which reward us for playing content!”
ANet adds a new in-game skin, which requires you to do specific content to get it and cannot be bought.
Players rage: “I do not want to do this content for a skin! What happened to ‘Play how you want’?! Just let me do content X and Y and buy it with gold!”
ANet adds a new Gem Store skin… Rinse, repeat.
Moral of the story: when you make posts complaining about things you do not like, first
- look around to check if your complaints are really grounded and
- try to understand that this is an MMO where a lot of people have a lot of different desires, and to make everyone more or less happy, developers have to differentiate content.
If you take Dry Top as an example, you have:
- Gem Store ley line skins – can be bought with real money or gold grind,
- scarf and mask skins – can be acquired as a reward for playing content but also bought with gold grind (or real money as an option),
- Ambrite weapons – can be acquired as a reward for playing specific content only.
You have all the options here. Seriously.
If it somehow happened that the skin of your choice didn’t match the acquisition method of your choice… well, too bad, but it did match for someone else – and made that someone else really happy.
Cheers and may the God of RNG bless you!
Zerging was left in the “old” basic GW2 which many people who enjoy it can still enjoy it (newer inexperienced players included). Others who don’t (like me) do not do world bosses anymore and complain in the megathreads which you can find on the first pages of the general subforum.
The new season and new content which caters to older players who want “challenge” is in Story Journal and Dry Top. Each boss there has unique mechanics which require timing and coordination, and instanced LS achievements are designed to be achieved solo or in parties of up to 5 players. That part of the game has just appeared though, and only time will tell if it can unleash its full potential.
I believe that “a different region” means EU and NA. My guess is that there’ve been a lot of lag issues because of people communicating with geographically “wrong” servers.
How is this an illogical decision? The title is meant to be a compensation for those who made the same legendary twice before the wardrobe update.
This.
You crafted 2 of the same legendaries – you get a title, 25 AP and a single legendary skin.
You crafted 2 different legendaries – you get two different legendary skins and are twice as cool to all the players as the guy next to you who made, say, dual legendary daggers.
If you ask me, then even 25 AP and a title is not worth losing 2000g. Even such a compensation is not enough, to say the truth, but it’s at least something done for these people and I think it was a nice move from ANet.
Because, even if you find it hard to believe, some people play the game to have fun, not to faceroll everything.
Handicapping yourself to do all the new countless “kill monster before it kills NPC or time runs out” LS S2 achievements by playing other classes does not fit my definition of “fun”.

How do you call a game which likes to kill its characters and is obsessed with deadly vines?
Game of Thorns.
You get the blink, but you’re still stunned (as in, you still can’t use any skills) — just stunned in a different place.
But I’m sure they always helped from knockdowns. I used Swap to recover from Saboteurs at Boom Boom regularly.
frifox, I remember you also have another hilarious reproduction of iWarden bug on uneven terrain: http://youtu.be/rqgJR5NUdTo?t=1m5s
Thanks for taking over the list, frifox! Nice to see an updated thread!
Illusionary Leap:
- Will not cast even though the indicator shows “in range” when it is close to actual out of range.
- Reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhTN9RscAuY
Swap:
- May teleport clone closer to you instead of swapping places with the clone (punishing you twice as a result).
- Reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhTN9RscAuY (same video)
LoS issues:
- Often cannot attack objects or cast phantasms on things like burning oil and people on walls in WvW, even though those are perfectly visible.
- Once you get an “Obstructed!” once, you may never get out of it anymore until you detarget your target and start again. See screenshot – I’ve been running around that bunny trying to kill him from the walls nearby for several minutes but still got “Obstructed!”; I have a stack of screenshots about it somewhere.
Will post more when I remember anything else.
Here’s a thread in which it’s been discussed recently: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/lwd/Mobs-that-don-t-trigger-traits
I think it’s an alarming tendency to all people who use stacking sigils, especially after the costly “fix” for underwater weapons. I thinks they should rework the mechanics (or at least award 1xp per kill to work around the “feature”).
The lack of “use all” and “buy more” options are still a thing and i would die for trait templates.
Trait templates have been discussed by devs some time ago. It looks like they’re currently in development (maybe at an early stage, though) or will be some time soon™.
but some kind of equipment pool where only those weapons and armors appear what you use would be lovely. It drives me nuts when my Equipment tab is full of loot and i have to deal with finding what i need on the fly.
The new Equipment panel does it, more or less. You can also put those in an invisible bag at the bottom of inventory – at least that’s what I did. And, once you get ascended, you can distinguish them by colour. But having an icon overlay on usable gear may be a nice idea.
Tools become an account unlock as opposed to an actual item.
Although I agree this is a nice feature, I do not see it coming as it will lead to ANet losing money and a looong queue of refunds. Well, maybe, just maybe they will come up with gathering tools pool unlocker or something like that, which you can buy from gem store to make your gathering tools accessible from all characters.
If you are interested, I got a list of 150+ features which got accumulated by the community. Unfortunately, even that thread never got any attention from devs.
I really like the idea of me leaping. I’d do it the way that I leap, later I can swap. If I hold down the button, instead the clone appears and leaps, and then I swap when releasing the button.
I don’t believe the ‘if activating the skill in a different way, do something different’ functionality exists in the game in any form. If you want ideas to even be considered, they shouldn’t require large development of new systems.
But sword 4 and scepter 2 work in more or less similar manner. One effect on click and hold, another effect on click and click.
I think the problem here is that you’re taking a video game too seriously, especially when you start using words like “investment”.
I think you shouldn’t be reading long and boring forum posts such as OP’s and leaving comments because you’re taking a video game too seriously.
OP, agreed. Balancing this game by the lowest common denominator has always amazed me… One might think that after the initial launch phase and running out of fresh players you should cater to your loyal veteran players, but it looks like the B2P principle has grown too deep into the gameplay and goes far beyond zerk meta and zerg content.
I’m not ready to give up on my mesmer (yet), but I’ve been voting with my wallet for a long time now and am spending more time on other classes.
Would be very happy if someone gets the sheet for the beautiful Nagisa’s theme (video with notes).
Thanks!

Jeez… That sounded so familiar and had so much sense that I was purely amazed at that it wasn’t posted today.
to black-tagged people who have the power to kill undead threads: no need to do it here; this one is more topical than ever.
Since they haven’t “fixed” it still, that might as well be a temporary image for the zone which is going to change a lot in the next episodes.

The reason why we mention them is that these boxes are known to be buggy – they need to be put in a specific order with others to work correctly.
My husband and I were just discussing this last night. Yes, he’s been asleep, but he seems to have been at least semi-coherent recently. It is plausible that he could have gained this information from Scarlet’s mind. What she knows, he now knows sort of thing. We don’t know if the communication went both ways, or if she could only hear him.
That left me wondering why you were discussing something with your husband when he’s been asleep and semi-coherent, and how he could’ve gained that information from Scarlet’s mind in the first place…
I just assumed the point was to add one more stat combination option to the pool of existing ones.
The OP’s scenario actually sounds fun in a masochistic sort of way, though.
Well, nothing bad about one more conspiracy theory, right?
DON’T PANIC!
Fixed.
Cool you got the subtle reference :P
