and this is a problem?

Yes, player manipulation of the market causes trouble for the wider playerbase. It’s one of the reasons for cutting down RMT in an online world. They tend to inflate the prices which in turn causes grief for genuine players.

kitten Vol. We rich players are not “genuine” people. Ah well lets go manipulate and increase prices of Dusk just for kittens and giggles

What’s that? We can’t actually monopolize the market of one of the rarest items in the game because about a dozen of them gets traded everyday? What is this!?

I never said Rich players weren’t genuine players, I said RMT were not genuine players. That was very clear. I also said that what this new move effectively does is give the rich players the control over the market that RMT have. They have taken many initiatives to prevent RMT, which were a large problem at launch and quickly stamped out. This new move goes against what they have already achieved.

genuine players? who is to determine who is genuinely playing the game and who isn’t?

now i don’t spend copious amounts of time hanging out with evon, but does that make me any more of a genuine player than someone who does?

lol. no logic in your post.

I was talking about RMT. RMT aren’t genuine players, they play to earn money and make a profit off the game. They camp spawn locations and inflate auction house prices which causes grief for the actual players. The new move by Anet will counteract the efforts they have taken to prevent this activity and now will cause those who spend money on their game to control the market in the same way. THAT was my point. It was very, very clear. I’m sorry you were unable to understand it.

will the skins be tradeable? if so, there will be tons of people stockpiling. even if they do sell them, they won’t be worth much for quite a while.

Yes, but as other skins will be added and obtained in this fashion the number of each skin on the trading post will thin out, increasing rarity and therefore increasing the price.

One set of skins isn’t going to tank the economy, the SAB skins didn’t for example.

It won’t be one set, it says future weapon sets will also be obtainable this way.

i like some of the skins though i rather open anything else instead of BLC (black lion chests) so i’ll be running the events quite often. 5 keys for 450 gems… no thanks

Except for the next 2 weeks you have a greater chance of getting a skin. This means people will stock up now while their chances are higher and sell them later, when the event is over.

The Black Lion boxes will have a chance to drop scraps which can be traded for new, sellable weapon skins as of the Cutthroat Politics patch. The description also seems to indicate that future weapon skins will roll out this way. Now, as it is extremely rare to get keys through normal play this means players will have to either grind out the first few levels on a new character like crazy until they finally get a skin or go with the more likely option of buying them from the gem store.

The issue here is that we already know that a very small minority of players make regular payments to the gem-store and an even smaller sub-section of those buy keys (The general consensus among players is “death to rng!”). There will also undoubtedly be a very small amount of players willing to invest the time and effort it takes to farm that many keys though character recreation as it would take away from the main game so much and most of us have lives to get on with in-between play.

Considering the rarity of the skins, the time and effort it would take to acquire them and/or the amount of real-life money it would take, this means that the skins will undoubtedly be very expensive on the trading post. When you also factor in the demand (If that rapier is in, then it’s gonna be expensive) then this is going to have a profound effect on the trading post and in-game flow of currency. This means that those players willing to invest the time or money on black lion keys to sell the skins on the trading post will now have a huge amount of control over the currency. These players now get to control the market by investing more real-life money into it.

Welcome to Tyria. It’s like real-life, but ruled by pirates.

… And your point is what?

That is the point actually. Living Story chapters chaining into one another. When Dragon Bash was going on, did anyone foresee where that would lead up to now? Now there’s the possibility of one of two counsel members chosen, two distinct paths which can branch down to two distinct stories. Maybe Evon Gnashblade is actually corrupt and influenced by the Consortium and if he wins there’s thoughts on exposing and ousting him, where if Kiel wins he could work towards a path of revenge or simply kick back and run the Black Lion (yeah, right…).

It’s playing out like they said… chapters of a living show, wait ’til next week!

When I commented the first time the brackets (LW is playing out like they said) were not in the title…

Living Story Lore in-game, not on website

Lord Krilik.3692

I’m not saying that we can’t make improvements to the living world story telling. I’m saying that we should get as much storytelling into the game as possible, but I see no need to dismiss the lore blog posts just because they’re not in the game.

I don’t think this is necessarily the issue anyway. The blog posts are great, but we are finding that we have to read them to know what’s going on in-game. The game should be giving a better explanation of the storyline than it is. With the recent changes to the teams however and the lengthened production schedules of each release I am confident we will see improvements. I figured the releases we have seen so far have been more experimental than anything.

Just to make this clearer though. Regarding the recent release, when the merchants arrived there should have been a bit more explanation from Magnus about them, and when we get to the zone we should have been met by Ellen and a Merchant representative who also held a discussion giving us an idea of what was going on. We should then have had a cutscene where Evon is interacting with someone as well to flesh out his being there a bit more, or maybe a discussion with Ellen who gives us some back-story on him after she spots him and wonders what he is up to.

Actually, they don’t necessarily have to be cutscenes, they can be conversations that play every so often like the quaggan’s magic trick, however cutscenes are a little more immersive and would probably do a better job of just giving us the basics. There’s no reason why other looping convos couldn’t happen on top as bonuses to look out for.

So what i’m saying is that the story just needs some clearer presentation in game to start us off, and we can hunt for all the extra bits ourselves (like paying attention to npc’s songs/ soundbites and reading bits of info we find etc and reading the blog posts).

Not on the forums, no. If Anet wants to write some actual characters and give them actual views like the OP describes that would be great, I would probably be one of the few who actually reads them but they are just cardboard cutouts atm with a few lines and the barest hint of character. Anet would have to write their butts off if they want people to actually vote in character.

Having said that the OPs request is reasonable and something I would actually like to see, and my snarky response was inappropriate, so I apologize. The braying #vote kiel/#vote Evon rubbish is already seriously getting on my nerves, Im probably going to play the next two weeks with map chat turned off to avoid it but thats no reason to take it out on somebody who is getting into it.

Of course, which leads us to wonder whether Evon or Kiel are involved in some way, or even Magnus as far as Kiel is involved. They may even be a victim to some scheme themselves. Ie, someone may want one of them on the council for whatever reason and knew this would create an opportunity.

Still, why the Ashfords specifically….?

Back during flame and frost, one of the Ashford was killed. Then again during Dragon Bash, Theo was assassinated. Mai even sat over his body pretending to be a medic to ensure she had done the job right. We also have reason to believe that whoever is really leading the Aetherblade (High likely to be this “Scarlet” character) was also behind the Flame and Frost attacks. Don’t you think it’s a little suspicious that the Ascalon Ashfords keep losing people in all these attacks?

I have to say though- well played Arenanet for riling everyone up so much about the current political affairs. It’s really interesting, amusing and even heart-warming to see everyone taking to the forums so passionately to preach their favored candidate. Especially with your staff members poking and teasing in some of the threads! It’s also interesting to see how quickly they have become distracted from the rest of the ongoing affairs. It’s just like a real-life political campaign.

We can’t assume. We can, however, hope that they won’t tease us with two and only ever deliver one.

You should stop hoping that. It’s not a true choice unless you give something up. I mean, that’s probably why they are saying they will build from scratch the new fractal based on the choice. Go with Abaddon, kiss goodbye reactor and I am okay with that. Because then more permanent choice and better IMO.

Nope. Won’t stop hoping. :P

Remember. This isn’t an individual choice. It is up to the masses. You just gotta hope the masses agree with you to get the option you would prefer.

Both are very tempting options. Saying ‘you will never know what the other option would have been’ is quite cruel to lore-fiends.

I personally prefer Kiel on the council, but I would prefer to see the fall of Abbadon. So no matter what I choose, I cannot win.

Aww… Take a more optimistic approach and say that no matter what you choose, you DO win. You either get Kiel and the story develops with her in power, or you get the fractal you want!

When you consider that all the threads related to the vote have more comments saying “I’m not voting Evon, I hate his stupid RNG sales” and this one has nothing in the title that would have drawn more players from one particular camp yet there are more who clearly want Ellen to win (Lots of comments complaining that the vote is clearly going to fall in Evon’s direction) I fail to see why those players are complaining? I don’t think I’ve seen any threads yet that are favoring Evon. Is this just normal anxiety over their vote not winning?

The real-world reason for the collapse is that they were not allowed too many Canthan elements because the design of GW1 had offended some of the countries where they drew their ideas from. Marjory’s has not been working since before the update but I forgot to come here and post until I noticed my sanctum model doing the same thing and it reminded me.

Interestingly, I know Marjory’s was working. I happened to create a new character the other day (Still got my main though) and i was getting 100% in divinity’s. Happened to pop into the tavern and speak to Marjory on the new character, and it has not been working since. I don’t know if that is related, but could it be that the new character somehow overwrote the progress of the older one?

The skills aren’t based on wind, (ok one is) they are based on elements. An Earth skill would have worked for this reason. Not sure why they didn’t do one. The wind aspect comes from the floating city and the people living in the sky etc. Also throws back to past lore in many ways

EDIT: I just realised I used the word aspect at a bad time. What I was saying is that the skills were not based on winds, but the wind part of the title comes from the fact that they fly around in the sky o it refers to the directsion (N,E,S,W) like everyone is saying. The skills are separate in this respect referring to the sun, lightning and clouds all in the sky.

Considering this particular story is about who gets a seat I just felt that having a vote would be good. Or at least have players pick who to help secure the contract, then tally up how many helped Evon and how many helped Kiel. The highest could then get the seat and this outcome treated as canon to the story.

Giving away at least 22.5 million dollars worth of unlockables (based on 3 million sales as of January) is “small” to you?

I think you misunderstood my meaning of small. The larger additions are things that would take lots of programming and testing. The smaller ones would be really quick to implement.

So Guild Wars 2 released on August 28th 2012, meaning we are roughly 7 weeks away from the first anniversary of the game. This means we can almost certainly expect some form of celebration, but I was thinking it would also be nice if all the players were given some sort of freebie as a thank you. Then I thought, why not make a post on the suggestions forum to see what everyone else would like to see in the first anniversary of the game?

Some ideas I had:

Small

1) A free bank tab for all accounts.
2) A celebratory Miniature.
3) A title.
4) An achievement (I have a suspicion they already have this planned however, and that the new system will mean everyone gets some sort of reward for unlocking the achievement)

Regarding the achievement and title I’d rather see those alongside other benefits, as alone they wouldn’t feel like much.

Large

1) New skills for all classes.
2) New permanent map.
3) New dungeon.

Of course it’s a bit late to suggest large bonuses, but we never know what they could be working on…

What would everyone else like to suggest?
