They split into 4 teams to make the content and hired more people, so one team will be given about 2 months or more to work on each release. The 4 teams will rotate their releases, so while one is releasing, the other 3 are still working on their own updates. Colin did say that in the video.

Improvisation: Why use it?

Lord Krilik.3692

regarding the “bundle” thing, that’s a stolen skill right? Because I decided to try that and runes of the engineer in heart of the mists with steady weapons and found that my damage only went up from 132 per hit to 134. Correct me if I’m wrong but 15% bonus damage should do more than that.

No, stolen items are not calculated by the game as bundles (even though they are called bundles) in the same way as held items are, meaning you do not gain a damage increase for holding them.

Myself and a few others recently put some threads together here and in GW2GURU to test this trait. The end result is that holding an item (such as a summoned ice bow from an ele) gains a damage boost, siege weapons also gain damage boosts (pointless for a thief though) and you randomly refresh a skill… The trait is really pointless.

The cinematics team really knocked it out of the park. The June team took some chances with the noir feel, writing style, and design and art choices. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how it would be received. Glad that some folks are “getting” the concept, as it’s not as common in fantasy MMOs.

My partner and I have been feeling a bit like you guys have done nothing but hold back and be afraid to just “go for it” with your ideas (Not the art team specifically, but everyone at A-net) since the game released. It was nice to see that a larger step was finally taken with this scene. Stop holding back and start innovating. The entire game was based on the concept of innovation, risk and world-changing events after all.

I think this is pretty much the same issue as needing a tab for underwater skills. They just need to have a PvE land and water tab, a PvP land and water tab and a WvW land and water tab. The underwater skills can just be lower down requiring us to scroll down a bit. The tabs make it cleaner and more user-friendly overall.

I’m not sure about a torch personally because not only has it been created mainly as a magical weapon in the game, but a thief illuminating his location seems to defeat the object of remaining hidden.

Why not just give us an Axe main hand to give is more of a bandit-like option? We can already style ourselves like pirates, why not the rougher land-type as well?

Rifle might work as well but we already have P/D, P/P and SB as ranged options. An Axe just seems to fit the bandit bill to me. It could also lend itself to more front-line build where brute force and a thuggish style win the day.

Lower the price of tier 3 cultural armor

in Suggestions

Posted by: Lord Krilik.3692

Lord Krilik.3692

Actually I’m going to suggest a slight alteration to this argument. I also agree that the pricing is wrong, but I feel that the pricing of armors overall is a bit messy. The order armors all come to about 8G and they are along the same vein as cultural. In fact, you could argue they are even rarer given that you close yourself off from 2 of them. Surely these should have cost more? Also, why is the step up between cultural armor costs so skewed? Tier 1 is cheap as anything, Tier 2 seems like a reasonable, or maybe low step up, Tier 3 is way, way too much of a step up from Tier 2

Why should I bother with living world at all?

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: Lord Krilik.3692

Lord Krilik.3692

Southsun Cove is a a badly thrown together mess of uninteresting rubbish. The story and presentation are weak, the NULL fight was rushed and unbalanced (as admitted by A-net in the forums) and every update is buggy as hell.

So in response to your title, you should only bother with it if you have identified something you actually want. For example, the two new backpieces are great cosmetically and easy to get. The queen is going to be a permanent addition and is a fight along the same lines as the God avatars and Dragon minions (jormag, etc), so you can ignore the current bugs and just wait until it works properly. It isn’t going anywhere after all.

I distinctly remember A-net saying Flame and Frost was a miniature prelude to living story content, and that the next chapter would be the first of “bigger and better” content. It isn’t. It’s not even half of what Flame and Frost offered. Even Super Advanture Box had more storyline than this, and was presented with far superior quality.

Your post itself is completely unrelated to your title. What on earth do bad drop rates on mobs have to do with the living story? Those monsters have always been there since Southsun first appeared. They also aren’t a part of the living story. I would recommend pressing ‘H’ and going to the achievements panel. Take a read through the Southsun section – this will inform you of the living story content and help you to complete it.

Every time they add an event or update to the game it is buggy. As they just added the queen, which the majority of the player base was waiting for, you can expect it not to work as intended straight away. This is the way with Glitch Wars 2. I’ve never seen a major MMO as consistently bug-ridden as this one.

Sometimes when I read through threads its because I see the red developer icon and am interested in finding what they had to say. I love the arrows that let you instantly skip to the next/ previous dev comment once you have located one, but in larger threads (Like the 70+ page long Thief and it’s gameplay thread) finding the dev comments in the first place is a burden.

I would like it if a “Skip to developer comment” button could be added to the beginning of the thread so we can quickly locate their responses to the issues, as wading through 70 pages of nonsense is just painful.

Regarding the above thread, I don’t even know if that ever had any proper developer follow up because I simply cannot find the comments.

Balance thief and stealth mechanics

OP, have you ever done a search for tactics on countering thieves who make good use of stealth backstab builds? Ever watched any video tutorials? I’m guessing you came here to make a suggestion without having done any research, because you fought against one or even two good thieves who used this strategy and lost to them.

The truth is, they are rare. They cause a lot of chaos when they are present, but there really aren’t that many thieves truly skilled enough to run this build to it’s full potential. Every class forum has threads created by players who got defeated by that class and are moaning about how over-powered they are. The reality is that, while your one build and current tactics may be working out in some situations, it clearly isn’t in this one. You have a build and playstyle which is being countered by theirs.

As this is a suggestions forum, my suggestion to you would be to learn not only from your own experience, but from the experience of others. Go online and look up ways of countering backstab thieves and make yourself a better player. Even change your build if it bothers you that much, but be aware that suddenly other professions and builds will start to seem overpowered to you if you do this.

Isn’t the solution obvious? When you click inspect it should show you the armor and weapons, but not the stats.

OP is asking for a way of seeing what specific armor parts are because he likes them cosmetically. Just have the inspection work on a cosmetic level.

EDIT: Scratch that, I read further down and realised he got all immature about people disagreeing with him and WAS talking about seeing their stats. This counters the design philosophy of the game.

Cosmetics, yes, I’m all for inspection. Stats, no. Your assumptions are not reality.

“Sure, you’d probably have problems with clipping, but if someone chooses that look then that’s their choice and not the fault of the art department”

Um, no. Bad design shouldn’t just be shrugged off like that.

As far as cultural armor is concerned, can’t you just transmute it?

Customizable armor is interesting, but with so many color options, mixing and matching pieces and transmutation there are already a lot of looks you can create. This seems like it would over-complicate the game and it would take a lot of programming and designing to implement, which would take away from the resources they should devote to other areas. When you also consider there are some killer looking MMO’s coming up like The Elder Scrolls online and Destiny, A-Net could already be heading towards trouble. Right now at least, there is no way they can afford to devote their time to this idea.

Lord Krilik.3692

Hello,

I am in a guild who uses a Facebook group to update people on events and such, which isn’t such a bad thing, but I thought it might be better if everything can be done in game because having to exit the game to see what your guild is planning seems a bit counter-productive?

that’s why I thought it might be a good idea if some sort of calendar could be implemented into the guild panel so officer’s can mark events? You could also allow user’s to match the time-zones on the calendar to their own to prevent any confusion over timezone differences (I am guessing that it can take this from the in-game clock but I’m no programmer).

Additionally, the events can be highlighted in different colors for different types. IE, Dungeons could be colored Yellow, WvW blue, PvP red, Guild missions Green etc… These colors should be uniform across the game (ie, not customizable) to ensure clarity when switching between guilds. This would create a better user experience.

When clicking on the event, there should be a panel to the side detailing it with a box that the creating officer typed the details into. They should also be able to link map locations (POI, Waypoints etc) like you can in chat so people can click them to see where the event is.

The guild leader should be able to select who in the guild has access to edit the calendar, just like they can select access rights to everything else. This way they can differentiate event leaders from other officers if they wanted to.

Thief Improvisation trait bug?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Lord Krilik.3692

Lord Krilik.3692

Just had an interesting thought before stumbling over this…
Warriors leg specialist does affect arrow carts. Using a siege weapon is considered holding a bundle…
Does this trait work on siege?

I’m not sure about the siege, but it is a good point and worth testing

I do have a bit more info however. One of the forum posters saw the thread and said the following:

“It’s because you used to (in beta) be able to steal bundles from opponents. Stealing from an Oakheart would net you a branch bundle you could use to smack someone else around with. This was later removed when they revamped steal because nobody used it. My guess is that they left it on the trait because Improvisation was so under-used anyway, that it didn’t hurt anybody. "

So this explains it. It was due to an old, beta mechanic which was removed before the game launched (I played beta but don’t remember this lol). This still serves to highlight that we have a redundant trait however, and if Any devs see this I would like to request the thread get moved to the suggestions section (I don’t think I can move them myself?).

It seems silly leaving in a trait when it refers to a mechanic that was removed before the game launched. Furthermore, the trait is pretty much useless even when we have access to bundles, as we rely so much on our weapon skills anyway (most thief builds focus around certain weapon skills) so we are less likely to use bundles than other classes.

This means we essentially have 1 less trait than we should, which seems a bit unfair, so I would like to suggest it gets replaced. In fact, I think thief traits in general could do with a bit of love as we seem to have been pidgeon-holed into only using certain ones, and some of these are simply out of not having better ones available (Power of inertia, I’m looking at you).

Thief Improvisation trait bug?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Lord Krilik.3692

Lord Krilik.3692

UPDATE "So it sounds like the items thieves steal simply aren’t considered to be “bundles” by the game mechanics.
Improv’s 10% definitely works on bundle weapons such as the experimental pack weapons you pick up for the Jormag event.
At least it did last time I tested (maybe a week before the march 26th patch). "

So it was tested by one of the forum posters, and yes, it only affects bundle items, of which thieves have none (as apparently stolen items are not being calculated as bundles). This is a high ranking deadly arts trait. This is clearly badly designed.

Any idea if this is planned to be changed, or if it really is a bug?

By GEORGE, I think I've got it!

The design team have mentioned that they want events to shape the larger world, however the effect of this is barely being felt by the community, and as a result they have been crying out for more instanced events. This is because “dynamic” content is problematic in that it needs to allow everybody the opportunity to play it, while also having a lasting impact which seems to counteract the first point because events are easily miss-able.

There is a solution to this however. If the team want to keep introducing major, landscape altering, one-time only events, then all they need to do is also add an npc in the form of some storyteller who retells the events of Tyria. Players who were unable to take part in the event (perhaps there were bugs, or they lost connection, or were otherwise preoccupied) would then be able to speak to the npc and be placed in an instance which begins before the event takes place, and allows them to replay through it (just like what is currently happening in the Rox and Braham events, or how missions worked in GW1). This also means that all that hard work and design that went into creating the events isn’t lost in just moments because they will be eternally re-playable. in fact, they could event be tweaked to add harder versions which players could play through like dungeons to gain extra rewards, meaning they also add to end-game content.

By doing this, we get the best of both worlds, and open the path to extra content and ideas.

What do you guys think?
