It’s really easy to get skill points.

I have 100s on my main without even trying, not to mention all of the skill challenges that are easily accessible.

But that is because you actually take the time to go into PvE. There are a lot of players who don’t venture into PvE to grab those skill points. It seems like the devs are constantly pushing PvE into every aspect of the game. I want to create a lvl 2 character and be able to be on an equal playing field as someone who is lvl 80 and has 500 skill points from PvE. I wish the devs would atleast TRY to mask their gigantic bias towards the PvE aspect of the game.

What’s worse is people thinking they are better than you because they play one game a month and are higher on the leaderboards…

I would agree that thieves are strong, but you are extremely incorrect when saying that there is no counter play involved. A good thief will roll just about anyone, but that’s because you just get outplayed. kitten like hambow, condi wars, spirit rangers, MM necros are the bullkitten that should be looked at.

Maybe this is just because I’m in a lower skill bracket, but I don’t understand why people are saying that Thieves are low skill high reward. If I just spam pistol whip against every kittening class, I die every time. Unlike MM necros and Spirit Rangers and Condi Warriors, I think Thieves take an extraordinary amount of skill to play well. You screw up you die. >.>

Except for now, they are gonna force you to use transmutation charges to switch looks in PvP instead of it being free like before. I hope they reward some of these charges through PvP rewards because otherwise I for one am not gonna spend the already kittenty amount of gold I make through PvP on gems just to switch to an armor set that I have already unlocked..

So are you going to complain about Necros, Decap Engis, Spirit Rangers, Condi Warriors and PU mesmers? If you are going to complain about Pistol Whip thieves it is only fair you complain about everything else that is unbalanced in this game. xD

Pretty much every class will beat a thief 1v1. A thief excels at spiking targets softened targets in teamfights as well as ganking unsuspecting players traveling between nodes. Because of a thief’s high mobility, they are great at capping undefended nodes and if you are trying to assault a node 1v1, a thief’s help will end the fight pretty quickly. xD

Glad you are enjoying sPvP! Stay in hotjoins as long as you like to get comfortable, but as soon as you have somewhat of an idea what you are doing, don’t be afraid to jump into Solo queue. In hotjoins, no one really takes things seriously. If you are interested in actually getting better at sPvP and playing with people who care about wins/losses, then jump right in. Don’t worry about your rating or your W/L ratio, just focus on improving your own gameplay as well as learning how to act as a team instead of a single player intending to rack up kills (which is how it usually is in hotjoins)

I’m seeing a lot of “Don’t play mesmer” type of comments here. I actually think mesmers are great for solo queue. If you play condition, especially after the Dec 10th buff, you can basically handle any 1v1 on a side node easily and can survive a fairly lengthy amount of time 1v2. Also, mesmers have access to portal which when used correctly can really change the outcome of a fight. Mass invis rez, good condition, utility – a good mesmer can do a lot for a team in solo queue.

Now, there is one class I would probably stay away from in solo queue and that is the thief. Thieves are just hard to play in general. AoE wrecks you, stealth hurts your team and all you have to make up for it is Black powder stomps and high burst damage. Don’t get me wrong, thieves are extremely strong, but in my opinion, they are fairly reliant on your teammates support. Not to mention, a good thief is quite difficult to play (good reaction times, map awareness etc)

As an average solo queue player, the best advice I can give you is just to keep playing. Doesn’t matter what class you play, just pick a build and stick with it for awhile. You play enough, and things such as rating should come naturally… or so everyone says. xD

You should join Demon Hunterz/Knights of the Rose. Demon Hunterz has quite a few levelers, but we also do dungeons, WvW etc. DH is a younger atmosphere however, very laid back and childish guild chat. xD

Knights of the Rose is also quite laid back, but with a much older community. We do WvW, Dungeons, Weekly Guild Bounties/Treks etc focusing more on end-game content.
