Season 2 Filled with Beautiful Sadness

M Steel.2574

I must say, I’m LOVING LS season 2 here.

I noticed, however, its filled with scenes that are very sad, in a way previous stories of the game havent been. For instance, when our favorite apple seller sacrifices himself, it didn’t feel… real…

With this release, it started with Dabnia. The poor girl, once engaged to a man who was too good for her. I wanted to tell her “No way girl, you’re awesome, that guy was a loser!!”

Seriously.

Since then, there was two items in Fort Salma; first, our two quaggan lovers who are desperately trying to get out, and find just one safe place in the world, and then, of course… well, the very end of the Fort Salma story instance, if you know what I mean.

And then, there was this scene I stumbled on in Prosperity:

Wait a minute, did Bloomanoo and Peneloopee die at Fort Salma, because that would make me sad.

Also, I kind of want to know what the story is behind Dabnia. Was she in Season One?

Trouble at Fort Salma.

I didn’t die, but they just sort of… vanished during the fight. The oversized bone minions were still doing their thing thankfully, but Kas and Jory were just gone after a bit and I basically ended up killing it on my own. They didn’t reappear until the finishing cutscene there.

I had the exact same thing happen. Marjory and Kasmeer disappear mid-fight taking Kasmeer’s bubble shields with her. Fortunately Majory’s minions remained to do there part.

Durring the fight Kasmeer is supposed to be laying down shielded areas for you to duck under to avoid the Thrasher’s attacks while it is shielded. The minions will often pass through these shielded areas too, so you can attack the hounds without having to worry about the Thrasher’s rain of death. However, Kasmeer disappears mid-fight leaving you unprotected. Your best bet is to dodge or retreat when the Thrasher does its area effect attack (you should see a whole bunch of red circles on the ground telling you where you don’t want to be). I was able to solo the thrasher on a greatsword wielding guardian, but I died twice and had to restart from checkpoint.

A skill that teleports you directly to your opponent like “judges intervention” is useful against the hounds. I’m not sure about other classes or skills.

Theory: Anet trying to remove WP for Mounts?

in Living World

M Steel.2574

I doubt they are getting rid of waypoints permanently and replacing them with mounts, but I also doubt that the waypoint crisis is going to be so easily fixed. I imagine Taimi’s strategy will work with most waypoints, but not with all of them. It just seems way too easy to present the problem and then solve it in a single Living Story chapter. I’d just like to see the interspatial translocator have a cameo. Maybe Mordremoth takes out an important waypoint and the only way to get where you need to go is using a new interspatial translocator prototype (the old one having been destroyed). Yeah, I know, wishful thinking.

Theory: Anet trying to remove WP for Mounts?

in Living World

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

Taimi said she is going to try changing the frequency of the waypoints so that they are less desirable/detectable to Mordremoth and more efficient. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the waypoint crisis is solved though. That said, if you’ve played an Asura from the College of Synergetics, then you know that the college (coincidentally Taimi’s college) is working on interspatial translocation (point-to-point transportion without a gate). I don’t know if that bit of personal story will actually be revisited, but it would be a nice touch.

I came across the following theory on another “GW2 forum”: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/Six-Elder-Dragons-not-Five-Spoilers/first

“Another interesting note , that through all our encounters with the
Nightmare Court , they keep saying that the Ventari Tablet’s teachings has deviated them from what they were truly created for , and they always look at the other sylvari as brainwashed or deluded !!

What is the nature of the pale tree[? ] . . . [What if]the pale tree is actually a champion of the sixth elder dragon , and has been influenced by the Ventari and decided to betray her master and side with the mortal races [?] …. we have a similar case happened in the Guild Wars history , as " Glint " was a champion of the elder dragon Kralkatorrik and betrayed him and sided with the mortal races …."

The “Guild Wars 2 Wiki”: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pale_Tree

“The seed which sprouted the Pale Tree was found in a cave containing many others like it, guarded by powerful plant creatures. Over 250 years ago, Ronan, a Shining Blade warrior, took one of these seeds and placed it on the graves of his family, located in what was once Arbor Bay, who were killed by the mursaat. He and the centaur Ventari tended the young tree, and their attitudes and philosophy had significant influence on its nature. In particular, the marble tablet carved by Ventari prior to his death and placed at the base of the tree forms the basis for the philosophy of the Pale Tree and her sylvari.”

Note that it says the seeds were guarded by powerful plant creatures. Could these be Mordremoth’s minions?

If the above theory is true, and the Pale Tree is a dragon champion that turned away from the Elder Dragons, then it would makes sense for Mordremoth to come after her. The Pale Tree may not even be fully aware of what she is, if the theory is true.

Neither, but I freaked out for a few seconds when Taimi entered the machine. I didn’t think they’d kill her, but thought it might end with her losing her mind like Scarlet. That for me was the most suspenseful and emotional moment. I’ve grown quite attached to Taimi.

Spec: Malyck & Interspacial Translocator

in Living World

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

The following contains speculation about potential connections between personal story and Season 2 of the Living Story. Spoilers follow:

If you select “Where Life Goes, So Too Should You” when creating a sylvari it leads to a quest line that heavily implies there is more than one Pale Tree, or at least another tree from which sylvari are born. Could this tree be located in an as yet undiscovered area of the Maguuma Wastes? Could we see Malyck (the Harbinger—a sylvari born of a tree other than the Pale Tree) again? We have already seen several characters from personal story have cameos in the Living Story including Lord Faren and Riot Alice. And when we last see Malyck he says he is going to find his people (somewhere near Magus Falls) and return with an army to fight the Elder Dragons.

In Entanglement we find out that Mordremoth is targeting waypoints, potentially crippling point-to-point travel across Tyria. However, if you choose the “College of Synergetics” when creating an asura, your toon’s Snaff Prize entry is an Interspatial Translocator, which allows a person to transport from one point to another without using a gate. Could this technology make an appearance in Season 2 of the Living Story? The game has done something similar before with the Ghostbore Musket in the Charr origin and the Pact’s Ghostbore artillery.

Can anyone think of any other ways personal story might factor into Living Story? Any theories?

So during the Concordia mission Rox makes an off-hand comment about how Taimi isn’t always right and when I read through my story journal the comment was apparently significant enough to warrant a mention. What is the deal between Rox and Taimi?

*spoilers* Jennah or Trahearne

in Living World

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

My guess is that either Trahearne or the Pale Tree is the target.

1st – A Case for Trahearne:

Trahearne could be a target because:

  • He was instrumental in killing Zhaitan and purifying Orr.
  • He is the leader of the Pact, which is dedicated to fighting the Elder Dragons.
  • He is a sylvari and is therefore vulnerable to Mordremoth’s corruption.

Trahearne seems like he would be the most imminent threat to Mordremoth’s rise. Presumably he could lead the Pact against Mordremoth. Corrupting Trahearne would leave the Pact leaderless and could cause the tenuous alliance between the Vigil, Priory, and Whispers to fracture. I for one think it would be interesting to see Trahearne go to the dark side (i.e. get corrupted).

2nd – A case for the Pale Tree:

Corrupting the Pale Tree would be a huge boon for Mordremoth because of the Pale Tree’s connection to the Dream. Corrupting the Mother Tree could potentially lead to the corruption of all future sylvari, and an endless supply of minions for Mordremoth. That said, the ramifications of Mordremoth corrupting the Pale Tree would be huge and I’m not sure how it would work with the new Story Journal system they have. Some players are just now starting out in the grove creating Sylvari and corrupting the Pale Tree would mean altering a race’s capital city. It would be a bold step, but seems less likely to me than going after Trahearne, which would require less altering of the environment.

LIONS ARCH: You choose the future!

M Steel.2574

I like the idea of recreating Lion’s Arch with bits and pieces from all the major races of Tyria. It never really felt like an integrated city to me before Scarlet. The architecture felt human, even though a lot of other races lived there.

Talking to some of the survivors after the attack though, it seems like there is more animosity and mistrust towards the sylvari because of what Scarlet did. It will be interesting to see if that has an impact on future stories.

I don’t see why they couldn’t do both (i.e. rebuild Lions Arch as a central hub, but also introduce a new dungeon accessible from Lion’s Arch such as exploring the ruins beneath Lion’s Arch, etc.)

It is possible that Mordremoth was not directly controlling Scarlet while he slept, but was rather controlling her through one of his minion, who has yet to be seen, but I doubt it would be Menzies.

Suggestion: Scarlet Redemption

in Living World

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

The way I interpreted Scarlet, she was actually trying to fight back against the Elder Dragon that corrupted her. The army she built and the havoc she wrecked actually served to prepare Tyria for the arrival of the dragon. But, in the end, she succumbed to madness. Her efforts to undermine the Elder Dragon, played into its hands . . . claws? I don’t know if Scarlet can be redeemed, but she could certainly reappear in some form later on to give us more insight into her motives and the motives of her master either as a projection in the dream, a holorecording, or notes from her research. Scarlet’s part in the Living Story doesn’t have to end just because she’s gone.

Magister Caillech (My Sylvari Necromancer) – "I fear what impact Ceara’s corruption will have on the Dream and the sylvari. "

Captain Vrodd (My Asuran Pirate) – “Meh.”

Keep part of the drill nearby the obelisk on the beach.
Engrave on the side the names of the dead and the heroes along with a simple line: “Never again. We still exist.”

I really like the idea of keeping some of the wreckage from the drill and turning it into a memorial for those who died in the Battle of Lion’s Arch, possibly with candles or personal mementos scattered at the bottom from survivors, and the occasional mourning NPC who tells travelers about the Battle of Lion’s Arch.

Here are a few things I wouldn’t mind seeing added:

  • I like the idea of Lion’s Arch becoming a hub where airships are built. Perhaps they could add a shipyard for airships and a new branch of the Lionguard dedicated to aerial defense.
  • An underwater laboratory dedicated to studying the magical ley lines that Scarlet unearthed. I have trouble believing the Priory or the asura won’t want to check them out. And, if I recall correctly, the charr have already developed submarine technology.
  • Open up the tengu wall and make the tengu a playable race. With the emergence of a new Elder Dragon and the destruction of Lion’s Arch, perhaps the tengu will help rebuild. It seems unlikely since they retreated behind their wall and attacked anything that came near it during the battle, but it could happen.
  • Cannons and/or mega lazers to protect against invasion by air or sea. Trebuchets are a thing of the past.
  • Or Maeva can use her knowledge of defense tech to build a giant force field around Lion’s Arch like she did around her home during the attack.
  • Leveling a city also presents the opportunity to build new housing such as guild halls or player housing.
  • Build-o-Tron?

Would You Fight To Reclaim Ascalon?

in Human

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

Honestly, I don’t think that it is a matter of who was historically right or who was wrong, or who has the greatest ancestral claim to Ascalon. At this point it is personal for every single human or warband that lost someone in the age old conflict. I’m curious what others have to say about this, because I’m not as familiar with the lore, but it seems to me that it might be easier for the charr to let go of their animosity because of how their society is structured. Hereditary/familial relationships aren’t as important to the charr. If a charr loses their son and daughter in a battle with humans, it isn’t felt the same way, because the primary social unit in charr society isn’t the family, it is the warband and warbands aren’t hereditary or multi-generational as far as I can tell, though I could be wrong about that. For humans it is different. Family bonds are strong. Humans trace their lineages backwards, and pass on their names and property to their children. When a human loses their child or parent or spouse in a battle with charr, it is more of an acute personal blow that reverberates throughout the generations. Humans may have more of a personal investment in the conflict—or maybe that’s totally off base. I don’t know. I’m relatively new to the lore. That said, I think if peace negotiations were to break down again between humans and charr, whether people fight would largely depend on their personal investment in the conflict and not whether it was historically justified.

Would You Fight To Reclaim Ascalon?

in Human

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

I’m trying to approach the question posed in this forum from the perspective of my human characters.

If peace negotiations between the charr and humanity were to break down (which seems unlikely as long as the Elder Dragons present a unifying threat), I think both of my human characters would be conflicted.

Duncan, my human guardian, is an honorary seraph and nobleman. He is loyal to Queen Jennah and Kryta, but his primary concern is defending Tyria from the Elder Dragons, whom he sees as the greatest threat to Kryta’s ultimate survival. That is why he joined The Vigil, where he served under General Almorra Soulkeeper (a charr), and eventually joined The Pact. Although it would pain Duncan greatly to abandon his queen if peace negotiations with the charr were to break down, he would ultimately do whatever it takes to end the threat of the Elder Dragons once and for all, including working along side his race’s age old enemies to bring the dragons down and abandoning Ascalon to the charr. If the Elder Dragons were no longer a threat, Duncan would serve wherever his queen needed him including Ascalon.

Bethany, my human ranger, would be somewhat less conflicted than Duncan if peace negotiations were to break down between the charr and humanity. Although she was born in Kryta, her parents were Ascalonian refugees, and a major turning point in her life was the discovery that her parents were secretly separatists working to undermine peace efforts in Ebon Hawke, a revelation that led to the arrest of her father. Bethany was raised to be proud of her Ascalonian heritage without ever having lived in Ascalon, and grew up hearing horror stories about the charr, the Searing, and the Foefire. Growing up in Kryta, Bethany never experienced a charr occupation first-hand like her parents had and never really met a charr face-to-face until she was older. After discovering the truth about her parents, Bethany had trouble trusting anyone for quite some time. She eventually developed a mutually respectful relationship with Logan Thackery after he helped her uncover the truth about her sister Deborah and, under his guidance, was introduced to the Order of Whispers, which gave her life renewed purpose. As an agent of the Order of Whispers, Bethany was introduced to Tybalt Leftpaw, a charr who eventually became her true friend and mentor. Tybalt’s friendship had a lasting impact on Bethany and helped her to trust again. She learned to judge people on their individual merits and actions, not by where they come from. If peace negotiations were to break down between the charr and humanity, Bethany would most likely play both sides as an agent of the Order of Whispers. She feels no special allegiance to Kryta or Ascalon.

M Steel, what helm is your human male in? I swear he looks straight out of Holy Grail, in a good way. Though now I want coconuts as a combat toy … Also that is a gorgeous composite portrait you put together.

It is the Banded Armor head piece. There are some weird issues with the inside and outside of the helm not matching perfectly, so you can see through the helm at certain angles, which bugs me, but I like the look of the helm overall.

Also, I kinda, totally did model it off of Holy Grail, so lmao! If we don’t have mounts, we should at least have coconuts I say!

Kasmeer and Majory Kiss

in Human

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I like the Kasmeer/Majory storyline. I think they are a cute couple and their personalities compliment each other nicely. I also think they developed the romance fairly well for those who listened to the ambient dialogue and talked to them. I thought it was interesting that there was tension in their relationship because Marjory was overprotective and Kasmeer resented it. Kasmeer was a little peeved that Marjory seemed to think she was too delicate to take care of herself, and Marjory was scared of losing her and had to learn to let Kasmeer do her own thing. What I loved about the final scene is that it played out as a reversal of those roles. Marjory was the one that got hurt, and Kasmeer was the one who entered the final confrontation with Scarlet.

My only problem with it was that I think they should have killed off Marjory like they originally intended to. Killing Marjory would have made it feel like there were some real permanent and tragic consequences to Scarlet’s actions. Lion’s Arch can always be rebuilt, but if Marjory had died, she would have been gone for good and the characters would have had to deal with that. As it was, the kiss felt like a cheat because it wrapped everything up in a conveniently happy ending. Rox just happened to know some battlefield magic to fix her right up? Seems a little too convenient given the extent of her injuries, but whatever. I like Marjory, so I don’t mind her sticking around for more stories even if her death feels like a cheat—although, now that I think about it, she is a necromancer, so cheating death isn’t totally beyond the realm of possibility.

As far as the argument that Kasmeer and Majory are just for the benefit of male teens, I think that really cheapens the time and effort the developers put into their character development, so I have to disagree. A kiss seemed like a natural response given the situation and it wasn’t overtly sexualized, so I’m not sure how the kiss would be considered pandering to male teens (though Kasmeer’s bombshell appearance and the fact that her cloths are an illusion, etc. are obviously geared towards young male players).

Personally, I think that the Kasmeer/Marjory relationship was a step in the right direction. They built up a cute relationship with fairly realistic tensions using minimal dialogue. I’d like to see them do likewise with other characters in the future whether heterosexual, homosexual, or interracial.

As a final note, although there is at least one example of a male/male sylvari pairing in the game, I agree with others who have stated that male/male pairings are under-represented in relation to female/female relationships. That said, one thing I like about the game is that same sex relationships aren’t overly sexualized or fetishized . I also like the fact that they seem to be generally accepted within the world of the game and not treated as abnormal. I think it is a step in the right direction and look forward to seeing how far they take things.

Many players have a large surplus of blade shards after farming Escape from Lion’s Arch—even after creating back gear for all of their alts.

It would be nice if blade shards could be exchanged for other trophies in the next living story event (i.e. exchanged for found heirlooms or found belongings). Players can easily accumulate thousands of blade shards. It would be nice if there was some way to spend them instead of having to destroy them to make room in your inventory and/or bank.

Does Salma District Change After Dead Sister?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Does anyone know if Salma District (human home instance) changes after the dead sister storyline? I’ve been looking, but I can’t seem to spot any changes.

Please treat spoilers appropriately.

Home Instance Changes Based On Personal Story

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: M Steel.2574

M Steel.2574

I haven’t been able to find a comprehensive list of home instance changes based on personal story, so here is what I’ve discovered so far, either by playing the game or from research on the Guild Wars 2 wiki.

Norn Home Instance Changes

*A shaman will appear in your home instance representing one of the four animal spirits. The shaman you get depends on the animal totem you choose.

*If you selected “protecting the Mysts,” Havroun Valda (formerly Apprentice Valda) will appear in your home instance.

  • If your chose to get revenge on your rival, Balteus Bloodletter (a charr) will appear in your home instance.
  • If you choose “Protect the Spirits” a minotaur spirit will appear in your home instance.
  • If you choose “Lost an Heirloom” a Kodan will appear in your home instance.

Sylvari Home Instance Changes

  • The firstborn of which ever cycle you chose during character creation will appear in your home instance.
  • If you selected the Shield of the Moon in character creation, Warden Llewyr will appear in your home instance next to the practice dummies and Tiachren’s shield (the Shield of the Moon) will appear hanging from a tree.
  • If you selected “Where life goes, so too should you,” one of the Warden captains you rescued during your personal storyline will appear in your home instance. I assumed Captain Banya would appear in your home instance, since you can invite her to stay at your garden while she heals, but I have not been able to find her.
  • The White Stag will move into your home instance if you rescue it.
  • If you kill the Green Knight his helmet will hang from a tree in your home instance and Gairwen will appear in your home instance.
  • If you select the crescent moon shield, a random valiant/warden will appear in your home instance.
  • If you chose “Act with wisdom, but act,” Larra, the asura from the quest line, will appear in your home instance.

Charr Home Instance Changes

*As you collect members for your warband, each one will appear in your home instance, including your sparring partner.

Asura Home Instance Changes

*The mentor you selected during character creation will appear in your home instance.

  • If you chose the college of Synergetics, an asura named Bezia will appear in your home instance. You will see her immediately upon entering the instance, she is across from the gate.
  • If you chose the weather machine as your first invention, a sylvari named Peredur will appear in your home instance.

Human Home Instance Changes

  • A priest or priestess will appear in your home instance representing the god or goddess you selected during character creation.
  • If you selected the street rat origin, Riot Alice will appear in your home instance in a back alley. Quinn will not appear whether you saved him or not, however, the dialogue of some of the npc’s will change depending on your decision. I’m not sure if this is a bug.
  • If you selected the unknown parents storyline during character creation, Exemplar Mehid and Exemplar Salia will appear in your home instance, however, their names will not display. I’m not sure if this is a bug.
  • Even if you didn’t select the commoner storyline, Andrew and Petra will appear in your home instance. Petra will be upstairs in the inn.

All Races

  • Depending on what racial sympathy you choose, a group of that race will appear in your home instance, usually accompanied by an npc from the quest line.
  • After joining either the Drumand Priory, Order of Whispers, or the Vigil, the representative that recruited you should appear in your home instance. Note: The Order of Whispers representative for norns appears in your home instance regardless of order you choose. This may be a bug.
  • After the Battle of Claw Island, Lionguard Mira should appear in your home instance, however, she is bugged and may appear in your home instance before she appears in your personal story. Mira is injured during the Battle of Claw Island. As a result her hair is gone, she is missing an eye, and she has scars to reflect her injured state. Note: In some home instances she does not appear injured. Instead she wears her full Lionguard regalia.

Hi. I am wondering if anyone knows of any good guides out there that list the changes home instances undergo as different races progress through their personal story. If you know of a good guide, could you please post the link here. Thank you.

The living event still has started yet on the Eredon Terrace Server, though some new content and NPC’s have been added including a Laurel Merchant and Refugee Coordinator in Hoelbrak. I’m not sure if it is bugged or just hasn’t started yet. Some people have been saying it starts at 4PM PST, but others say it has already started.

Yes, I was expecting him to come back as a undead and fight him.
Would of made things interesting, like a student surpassing the master thing.
But no, arena.net can’t tell stories it seems.

I was expecting the exact same thing. It would have been so brutal, but good storytelling.

Trahearne's Corpse

It is Deputy Mira. During the battle you hear her screaming about her eyes. Apparently she was right in the dragon’s line of fire and was badly burned—hence the bandages. Trahearne mentions her and her injuries as he is carrying her.

Later she shows up wounded & bed ridden in the norn home instance (she is missing her hair, missing an eye, and out of her armor). She appears to be bugged in some home instances, appearing in full armor and unharmed, usually standing & clipping through a bed I assume she is supposed to be laying on.

Home Instance after Personal Story Act 1

I honestly can not remember who Mira or Octavian Inkblood are, and yet there they are in my (Sylvari) home instance as well. Mira’s just randomly standing near the twins and medics and doesn’t even afford a greeting, so she especially just seemed… kinda random… Good to at least know where she came from I suppose.

Octavian Inkblood also appears in the norn home instance before any quest lines are completed. As I have not yet finished the game, I’m not sure if he has any significance to the story. He appears to have a pet Salamander Drake in the norn home instance.

I haven’t spotted him in the asura home instance yet.

I think they could do a lot more with the home instances, but I like going back after each major quest line and trying to spot what has changed.
