yeah I don’t particularly like that skill because you can’t target who you want to heal. I’ve tried to use it a few times and I never heal the person that I feel needs it the most. Its too unreliable for my tastes. If it worked with either friendly targeting or ground targeting I’d actually play a meditation build.

MastaNeenja.1537

Count me among those who tire of constant whining that comes from this forum. I mostly come here looking for new ideas, ways to improve my game, or to give advice if I think I have something relevant to contribute. Unfortunately most of the time it’s just wails and wails of after patch tearful crying or how bad a certain part of the game is rather than appreciating what’s good in this game.

On top of that posters have the audacity to demand a response to their topics/posts from an Anet developer which is laughable at best. They are the game developers they know more about making video games that that the vast majority of complainers will ever know. That great idea you think you came up with all on your own was probably on paper in an Anet lab before this game went into beta.

I think the lack of response and the going forwardness of Anet pretty much sums it up. Stop demanding a patch revert or expecting things to go back to how they were. I think its great that they combine threads that basically boil down to the same problem, a patch came out and a few players don’t like how things are after that patch. It cleans up a lot of junk that I don’t have to sift through to find something meaningful to discuss. For example I won’t go near any topics about the GS anymore because people can’t seem to get over the change that happened almost two weeks ago. Now I have to sit through the after patch Save Yourselves posts? What about two weeks from now when there’s another patch?

I can only hope there is a mass rerolling to separate the dedicated Guardians from the causality gamers.

TL/DR: Patches are going to happen, things that once were no longer can be. Please stop complaining and contribute something meaningful to the forums.

"Save Yourself!" is not meant to be a solo skill

You know I had a snarky comment but I deleted it because I feel it’s getting off topic. But i’ll say this, if you pull conditions to you, you should be ready to get rid of said conditions and not sit there and let them kill you. Condition damage is the Achillies heel of the the Guardian defense but we as Guardians have so many ways of getting rid of conditions it’s not funny.

Wasn’t a main focus of theirs? To allow a character to transition from PvE, PvP, and WvW?

I agree I don’t think they should separate the skill sets depending on what mode you are in, but it may be unavoidable. Still they could just drop the skill.

Can you imagine the complaints for that one? They might be more grateful to keep what they have after that.

MastaNeenja.1537

I’d even go as far as to suggest it gives +3 seconds to the boon duration per condition stripped but starts with a base of 0. So if you strip no conditions, you get no boons, if you strip 1, you get 3 seconds, if you strip 2 you get 6 seconds, so on and so forth.

It’s a good idea, if you could play “full support”. In a game where people don’t have dedicated roles, you can’t really have a skill that is only useful in group situations.

If they severely reduced the CD time that might be a viable option, but I’d like to at least get a small buff for using it, you know something to show for it.

But I imagine there’s a group of game testers that have closed servers that set around and tweak this kind of stuff all day and they put it into practice for a couple of weeks before the game gets updated.

Using SY while your allies are having tons of condition equal to killing yourself.

Maybe for you it is. I don’t die so easily.

Getting back to the topic at hand extra time for each condition drawn does sound like a good idea but I would imagine they tested that idea out already.

I can’t believe people didn’t see this coming, oh well. If players are going to get this shook up over changes they should probably take some time off and come back after the developers have finished balancing the mechanics of every profession.

Save yourselves was originally a staff skill i believe it was skill 4. I was surprised when they moved it to utility and that the buffs lasted as long as they did. It was kind of a panic button especially if you soloed and didn’t have to worry about pulling conditions.

I always thought save yourselves was kinda broken and would probably get changed. I still use it anyway. You get all those nice boons even if you don’t pull a condition? No one saw this coming whaaaaat? I remember when this skill was on the staff only.

I always thought it was kind of funny, when I would activate it and I’d get one condition.

Guardian's HP

in Guardian

MastaNeenja.1537

For condition removal you might consider virtues as a viable option if you want to trait 20 into it Absolute resolution removes up to 3 conditions and does a small burst heal to everyone nearby. Since you’re in virtues you can also take Master of Consecrations or Consecrated Ground and use Purging Flames which has some nice AoE and condition removal.

Guardian’s have lots of options for getting rid of conditions, Shouts, Meditations, Consecrations, Virtues and signets with inscribed removal. You just have to trait far enough into a Line to make it work for you.

Lastly if Guardians had more HP they’d be broken hasn’t that been stated a hundred times already?

So it finally happened. The "healer" blamed.

agree completely I’ll do my best to get downed player back up in the fight if nothing else they can make a good meat shield.

in dungeons when WPs are free, there’s no excuse to just lay there in a huge dungeon brawl waiting to get rezed. You’re only hurting your group at that point. get your sorry butt up and back into the fight!

As far as what OP was talking about being a guardian i haven’t experienced this yet, every one i’ve partied up with has been pretty cool and not played the blame game. I imagine it will happen eventually and i’ll just lol when it does. However if the whole group treated me like a heal bot then i’d probably just drop party there’s no sense in giving yourself a headache over bad players with bad mentalities.

MastaNeenja.1537

Radiance defiantly radiance to 30 so you can get a bonus 15% with right hand weapons critical this will help out with both mace and sword. You can get a very high base crit chance with these weapons after that. I would recommend investing in equipment that gives critical damage and precision along with some toughness to balance things out a bit.

You’ll also be able to spam Virtue of justice from the kills you’ll rack up by using that trait line so I would also trait at least 5 points into Virtues for a nice little might boon for Justice.

Beyond that you’ll have to consider your playstyle, for example if you want to use a shield a lot you could trait into valor 20 points for the Honorable Shield and Redistributive armor which will further boost crit chance and the Valor trait line confers crit damage which works will with Radiance.

This is a build that I enjoy using that gives me some flexibility, survivability and works well with either 1 or 2 handed weapons I just slot different traits in honor, same with utility skills they are also situational

Struggeling, Then I used A Mace

in Guardian

Posted by: MastaNeenja.1537

MastaNeenja.1537

The mace is a solid weapon paired with a focus, it’s almost always my alternate equip. Its great to fall back on to gain control of a battle when you feel like the fight’s not going so well.

It probably looses its effectiveness against human players to some degree this is because most people don’t stand around in symbols but I think a clever player could make it work in a lot of situations.

[PvE] GS users, what's your secondary weapon set?

in Guardian

Posted by: MastaNeenja.1537

MastaNeenja.1537

I use mace and focus as my secondary to a lot of weapon set ups simply because it feels like good solid ground to fall back on when I find myself overwhelmed or in an unfamiliar situation. Being able to mitigate so many attacks with these two weapons can be a life saver. Skills 3, 4 and 5 all either block or cause the next incoming attack to miss. Pair that up with Justice is blind, activating virtue of courage and a utility skill like haste and you can avoid a lot of incoming pain.

Another set that I love is the sword and torch for offense minded individuals. The torch gives great AoE in a cone and removes conditions it’s great for flanking a massive battle because you can remove conditions from allies and burn enemies at the same time. And you always have sword skill 2 for a quick blind.

I pair either of these two weapons sets frequently with any of the two handed weapons.

Anyone else think the Guardian weapons are a bit boring?.

in Guardian

Posted by: MastaNeenja.1537

MastaNeenja.1537

I find focus and scepter to be a little un-guardian as well. Torch is alright, but I don’t ever use it on any of my professions. I look at it and think “This is not a weapon and it does not look aesthetically pleasing at all.”. That said I enjoy my guardian. She’s definitely gonna be my second level 80. Personally, I’m running sword and board and GS. The only thing the guardian is missing is a better ranged weapon. They need to rework the scepter or rework the staff into a ranged weapon. Or let us use a longbow. I could see some guardian longbow skills.

Dude you have to get past the look of the torch and give it a go it’s very Guardian to launch a blue holy fire flame thrower that does a lot of damage to multiple foes in a cone and removes conditions from your allies in said cone. Both torch skills have quick CD for off hand weapons too. Skill 4 is also great because you light everything around you on fire or you can launch it for some sweet damage and lite everything around your target on fire. Trogdor would be proud.

Anyone else think the Guardian weapons are a bit boring?.

in Guardian

Posted by: MastaNeenja.1537

MastaNeenja.1537

No do not find the weapons any more boring than any other class. I have tried so far. If I want more interactive combat I bring a mace and a focus and see how many attacks I can mitigate with Justice is blind, activating Virtue of courage, mace skill 3, and focus skills 4 and 5, and my two two dodge rolls. That’s not counting situational utility skill usage or weapon swapping. Learning the timing of enemy attacks and locking them out while bashing their skull in very satisfying to me.

That’s just one good example I can give off the top of my head. You can swap the mace for the sword and use sword skill 2 for an extra blind if you don’t like how the mace feels personally I think it’s a great weapon that gets over looked. I love using mace skill 3 in a crowd and watching the crits pop up.

That question was not directed at any one individual it was written as a sort of self evaluation. I will admit I had a moment of “oh this sucks” too. But I kept playing and it really didn’t slow me down.

All I am saying is that players shouldn’t just use a GS only. They should have one serviceable copy of each equipable weapon in their inventory at all times. If you use a GS that’s great nothing wrong with it. I use one too it’s a good weapon, but you shouldn’t rely on one weapon to the point that if it gets changed or nerfed you have nothing left to fall back on and feel you need to stop playing a Guardian or any other character.

If you are having fun with your Guard after the GS changes then you are doing it right, which is what I suspect the majority of the players are doing. They are too busy playing to really comment on the changes.

Sorry if that came across wrong.

The “nerf” hasn’t affected me i constantly rotate weapons and utilize different equips depending on the situation or if I just get tired of using the same weapon for a while.

I had to get used to the new skill bar layout but that didn’t take long either people are surprisingly adaptable when they want to be. And the skill bar adjustment was needed.

This topic is starting to annoy me actually but I find myself posting here anyway go figure lol

Players really need to let it go its not going back it’s been two weeks now hasn’t it? So stop kicking and screaming about it. And really, if you can’t see a guardian’s combat capabilities past symbol builds and one weapon you need to broaden your horizons or just reroll because you probably weren’t playing the profession to it’s fullest potential in the first place were you?

I would use the trait line, Zeal if they had more interesting traits. Zeal is only really good if you want to use lots of spirit weapons it seems. They are fun don’t get me wrong I just like other utility skills better. In solektrall’s case the player might want to give Zeal a go since he liked the idea of spirit weapons.

Since there are two walls in consecrations virtues might be a viable idea for him as well. But just to make yourself less squishy you may want to forgo virtues until you hit 80 then play around with it when trait stats don’t impact your character quite as much.

I recommend armor smith craft so you can always have a good suit of armor available to you this will help with squishyness reduction

around lvl 30 I retraited and started to use valor and radiance traits because with radiance you get criticals and valor gives crit damage and toughness. This worked well for a long time for me. Valor gives trait II for redistributive armor which boosts your crit chance based on tougness too. I think this gives you a bit of a balance until you figure out what style works best for your Guard. Ultimately as you reach higher lvls and cap you’ll want pay less attention to trait line stats and more to the actual traits themselves, let your equips make up the differences in stats.

what exactly constitutes a terrible dungeon design? are you a game developer can you explain this?

They could always remove some of the WPs within each dungeon so that by the time you spawn and run back the mobs would be regenerated I suppose that would make sense. What exactly is the alternative here? Die and start the dungeon over completely?

One Token to rule them all...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: MastaNeenja.1537

MastaNeenja.1537

First they wanted easier dungeons now they want universal dungeon tokens, just give everyone max equips when they roll already so we can all be bored with the game within a weeks worth of play time.

No thank you….

There has to be different dungeon tokens because there’s different dungeons different dungeons equals different armor and different levels of difficulty there’s a reason for stuff like this. You work hard to get the items you want, you play longer because of it. The longer you play the more likely you are to spend money on micro transactions.

Oh and once you finally earn your awesome dungeon gear you get to show off to all the other players. Which in turn makes them want to play more to earn their own equips.

Things are fine the way they are, they are the professionals developing the game let them do their job and fix bugs and balance the game instead of expecting them to pander to people who are used to easy mode.

I’m kinda glad this update came out, i don’t have a problem with it really. Seems like it will separate the dedicated guardians from the less than dedicated guardians. The GS still kills stuff just fine for me. I’ve gotten used to the skill bar already too, I had already played through over 80 lvls with the old skill bar thanks to beta testing. I really think that if players can’t see guardians’ combat capabilities past the greatsword they were probably not playing the profession to it’s fullest potential anyway.

the point i’m trying to make is be positive and adapt because for all the kicking and screaming it’s not going back the the way it was before. Don’t get set with one playstyle or one weapon because what works today may not work after the next patch. This game is in it’s infancy, there will be lots of changes to come.

The dungeons should be hard, the reward is the unique weapons and armor. Those are badges showing you completed that dungeon a difficult challenge. Nerfing a dungeon or creating an easy mode just kind of takes away from that even if they don’t get the armor.

They can get rare drops and loot from playing the game normally or save up and buy something special at the TP.

That being said the dungeons aren’t perfect I’m all for tweaks right now because the game is new. I think its great that people who design the dungeons are actually posting comments in this forum. I for one like playing dungeons and look forward to going through all of them. They are great. They break up the game and make it more challenging when I feel I need to switch it up from exploration and crafting.

If you don’t like dungeons don’t do them, but for the love of the game don’t complain about how hard they are and expect them to be dumbed down. Keep in mind that some players actually enjoy doing dungeons and understand the concepts behind why they are the way they are.

Casual dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

MastaNeenja.1537

People really, REALLY need to stop confusing “casual” players with “bad” players.

The dungeons as they exist are perfect for casual players. If I have a bit of free time, I can hop online, ping the guild, make a group and get it done.

The dungeons are NOT for bad players. If you lack skill, you will not enjoy dungeons. And Anet shouldn’t be catering to bad players.

You sir are correct! 100% All the way.

If you die and the dungeons are too hard then its your fault not the developers or your team mates (usually unless you’re playing with someone who doesn’t understand basic concepts like aggro). These dungeons are made to be beaten but not handed to the player on easy mode.

You have to learn how to survive and fight with each profession, it’s different. This game is still new and players need to figure out how to build a good character with traits and skills that complement each other and benefit a group not just the player alone. It’s just that simple.

Dungeons are meant to be a challenge that you can’t one man army or just simply blow through by using skills 1-5 over and over. Also expect to die a few times there’s a reason why you don’t have to pay to resurrect in a dungeon.

Paying too much to repair your armor? Bring in some fodder armor to throw away once it’s broken.

Lol dual shielder!

nah Guardians don’t need to and shouldn’t dual wield if every one (or every profession/class) did it it would be boring and even more over rated well that’s just my opinion.

In addtion to the GW classes I feel that Guardians are based on on the D&D equivalent of Clerics but they are cool because they don’t actually follow a deity they just go out and heal their buddies and face punch what ever tries to hurt the softer magically delicious professions because that’s the nice thing to do when you have healing powers instead of trying to convert people or what ever. I think if they dual wielded it would break the aesthetic of the class that makes them defenders (one who guards, Guardians!!)

There’s plenty of ways to put the hurt on with Guardians for starters use Zeal to up your power. My favorite and general purpose set up for a guardian is to use a two handed sword or hammer if you really want to maim something and a mace and shield for when things get ugly and you need to ball up in defense mode.

I like the one handed sword but I’m having trouble settling on my offhand companion.

Open up a youtube video (any) and right click the video > click settings > make sure “enable hardware acceleration” is NOT checked! Disabling this made my cpu usage go from 90+ to 60-70 and I have had 60+ frames again! I think it has to do with flash messing with your gpu. I was getting 8-15 fps before until I did this. May not work for all of you but it’s a miracle for me.

Tried this didn’t work, my game ran on medium settings with playable FPS until the last patch released on 09/09/12. I never bothered to check my FPS before because it was running satisfactory to me, however my game will not go above 20 fps when I am out the field solo. When I am in a crowded area such as LA the fps is usually around 5-7. I have set the game up on the lowest possible settings at this point.

intel i5 2.53 ghz
4 gb ram
1 gb ati 5650

My system is by no means top of the line in fact it’s almost 2 years old but it exceeds the minimum requirements by quite a bit. The minimum requirements have to be more than simply booting the game up or that would be misleading and false advertisement companies tend to stay away from that sort of thing to avoid lawsuits. Also Anet has stated that they want their game playable on a wide variety of systems and that you do not need the most top of the line model to play the game. To reiterate the game ran fine for me in the past 2 weeks I made no changes to my system I shut it down went to bed got up the next day patched it now it runs terrible.

“Our goal with Guild Wars 2 is to have it run on a wide range of Windows gaming PCs.

Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better
Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 OR AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
25 GB available HDD space
Broadband Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse"

Furthermore many users who have system specs that are far higher than what are required, what I would consider an actual gaming machine are having the same issues as I am and after patches that came out over the weekend. Something is definitely wrong here. If you can play the game without issue then you are lucky go play the game, enjoy it I know I wouldn’t be hanging around here if my FPS had taken such a dramatic decrease.

At this time a response from the developer either on the forum or facebook would be reassuring and well just pleasant in general. hint hint

Have you guys checked your FPS in the option screen? See if its really low like less than 10. My game was running smoothly up until yesterday’s patch then it became almost unplayable for me. I noticed my map load times are a little longer too. Now I’m not saying its the patch but I find it awfully interesting how the day before my game was running smoothly then yesterday morning I load the game, it patches as usual, then my game becomes choppy/laggy like it did during beta.

Since the game’s launch on 08/25 it has worked great and ran smoothly until today, 09/09. I’ve made no changes to my system but I like many others are experiencing a terrible FPS drop. My system exceeds the minimum requirements and ran fine for two weeks this tells me that it is not my system at fault but something going on Anet’s side.

Bad performance. Help me!

The game ran completely fine for me until the patch that was put out today or last night. I’ve had no problems playing it since the 3 day headstart launch. My fps has dropped dramatically it rarely gets higher than 15fps and usually stays somewhere around 10. I never bothered to check it before because I didn’t have problems with it.

Just add me to the growing list of people who are experiencing this issue. The game ran smoothly from the 3 day headstart launch up until today. 09/09/12

I am on Tarnished Coast, the game has ran smoothly for me since launch I have only done PVE, however today there is a significant drop in FPS, the only explanation I have come up with so far is the most recent update? My game did update this morning when I tried to play so this would be the 09/09 patch if it was updated over night. It gets worse if I am in populated areas such event lightly populated ones such as Queen’s Dale, Claypool become laggy with 3 second delays from the time I press space until my character jumps. This was never an issue before.
