Just wanted to thank you mates. The late night discussion when I was rather tipsy after our podcast you and pyro inspired me to the changes to my playstyle and setup. On this I created a build who borrowed some of both your gameplays and pyros defensive setup with retailation and high survival. I also managed to keep The Shatter Cat Mist extremly strong mobility and high burst.

Dealing with mesmers

Hi, shatter Mesmer here
To tell you the truth, as a warrior dueling a Mesmer will be quite a challange for you, for a few reasons:
1)Meamers have fantastic in-combat mobility,as oppose to to warriors,allowing them to dodge your attacks, and reappear on the other side of the battlefield and kite you to death.
2)High burst and sustained damage,combined with the havoc they can cause with all these clones running at you,fighting
Esmera can be seriously misleading.
3)Confusion.
Always have a conditio. Removal especially against confusion spec Ed mesmers (which are not uncommon in wvw.

General tips I will give you:
1)Learn to stay on the real Mesmer, never waste time on his clones, doing this gives HUGE adventagr to the mesmer, he basically can do as he eases with you (shatter,let proc-on-death traits kick,mite younto death,heal etc).
This is excluding certain phantasams which can inflict alot dmg very fast.
2)carry wirh you a reliable condition removal, for confusion.
If you cannot remove confuse,refrain from using skills quickly,let it wear off.
3)immobilize+100b or any of your powerhouse skills, one or two of these will,without a doubt, finish the fight.
Mesmers are,eventually,a light armor class and most of them go GC set,making them squishy,yet elusiveike an annoying fly

I think thieves are in a good place right now.
They no longer can spam their attacks and expect to win the battle, they have to keep thier wits.

My first character was a thief and I loved it.
Now I’m starting a Mesmer,and as a mesmer the 2nd easiest class for me to insta kill is the thief (first being the warrior,by very short).
Just yesterday I insta gibbed a p/p thief, I anticipated he would start the duel with unload, so I imediately followed up with’ Mirror’ (reflects projectiles for 2s and heals).
It was so satisfying to see the. Umbers fly over his head 1k, 2k,3k
I then followed up with a standard shatter burst and the fight was over before it even begun.
Another nice duel was with a very glasscanony thief,as soon as he applied Basilisk venom (I saw the buff icon underneath his health bar,very helpful!) I responded with ‘riptose’ (aegis+clone on block),that literally destroyed his combo, and I then proceeded with my shatter burst and took him down.

The only time a thief can be truly lethal is in a group fight, when you’re too busy fighting the other guys the thief suddenly pops out of thin air and finishes you off so quickly that you never have the chance to react.
You’re dead before you know it :P

Is Illusionary Leap bugged?

It seems two huge, serious bugs:
1)The most annoying,upon casting IL the illusion will start jumping ,then stop in the middle (looks like it stumbles on my asura),never reaching the target.
After a brief moment it will start chasing the target normally (as if it’s a about to be shattered)
2)The skill doesn’t work when the opponent is in a higher place than you.
For example, take Battle of Kyhlo map (pvp).
Theres the wood ledge that takes you to the windows of the clock tower.
Every time i cast IL when an opponent stands on that ledge the illusion will run underneath it…lol.

Could anyone shed some light on the matter? Thanks.

Nobody knows until they actually release the patch. The only thing that we can say for sure is that the revealed debuff will always be applied even stealth duration runs out, as it was mentioned in a video.

Aw that sucks so much…
Who knows what else? And when will the patch happen?

Hello guys, does anyone know of a way to have different sets of keybinds for each one of your characters?
I play a Thief and my younger brother plays a guardion and it’s extremely annoying because each time we switch we have to change keybind setups,setting our favorite keybinds all over again.
Is there a way to have quick access to multiple keybind setups? so that we can quickly change keyind sets every time?

Shadow Arts Thief Build

You can easily go 30 SA and still be a good direct damage build.
S/D is a typical example.Cond damage is more like 30 Shadow Arts,20 Acrobatics,20 Trickery.

How come? No points in Deadly Arts at all? This tree focuses purely on stronger/more durable poisons.
Your answer really makes me glad though cuz these 3 trees are actually my favs, I just don’t see how they are effective in this build.
Would you please explain?

Damage output is not the reason here, P/D fights last long, they use the whole Shadow Arts line because it offers healing and condition removal, which are essential to long fights.

I see…that makes sense!
So I persume for that cond dmg playstyle the trait build would be 30 SA and 30 DA?

In fact a lot of Thieves use Shadow Arts, even if not investing hard on it, at least 10 points to reduce Cloak and Dagger cost to 4 (if you manage to hit). Many tanky builds, specially P/D use 30 DA for the great bonuses it gives to stealth (a lot of might aplications, healing, condition removal, etc), and you get a lot of use from those bonuses thanks to offhand dagger.

I think it’s one of the most popular trees around here.

Well,from what I understand thieves deal dmg through two main ways:
1) Backstab crits
2)comd dmg
Which do you think suits the shadow arts tree best? Crits seems better fit to this build but I may be wrong.

Hey guys,new thief fellow here
I was surfing the forums lately seeking some thiefy wisdom and to my surprise (and dissappointment),regarding builds,people here almost never include the Shadow Arts trait tree as a part of their build.
It was quiet disheartening to me finding that out because I always wanted to make a stealthy thief that can poof into thin air as he likes, and I love the shadow arts tree.
Will it make me weak if I choose this path? Or is there some solid dps build out there that embraces shadow arts?
Would very much appreciate your vereran advice here.
