I don’t care much about furniture, as long as my house gets a waypoint so I can go quickly there (or, even better, a teleporting stone much like HoM’s), and I can buy upgrades for it like crafting stations, bank, trading post access, access to guild services, a mine shaft that spawns a few ore nodes every day, a garden that spawns a couple of trees and some plants each day, a lusty naga maid, etc..

MithranArkanere.8957

If one weapon is a melee weapon and the other is ranged (and vice-versa) or ‘special’ like a torch or a focus, that’s fine.

But when both weapons have the same range, the first skill should be either changed into one that uses both weapons, much like the thief 3rd skill changes depending on what weapon you have in the other hand.
Or at least its animation should be changed, to look as if it used both weapons.

No matter what, wielding two of the same weapon and not using both for the first skill looks awkward.

New Weapons: Greataxe and crossbow

in Suggestions

MithranArkanere.8957

I could see warriors and necromancers using great axes.
Both as as heavy hitting close-range AoE weapons.

As for crossbows:
- Ranger:

  • For longer ranges (up to 1500 range) and no AoE. Kind of like with the warrior’s rifle or Half Life’s sniper crossbow. The 5th skill would be a ‘snipe’ skill with 2400 range, dazes, and has a channeled activation that increases the damage the longer it’s charged (up to 10 seconds), and has a 120 second recharge.
  • Underwater, REPLACING the harpoon gun and getting all its skills as is, so rangers no longer have any firewarms at all.

- Engineer:

  • As a two-handed semi-automatic weapon that deals lots of hits of low damage but has longg recharges, much like a chu-ko-nu.

- Mesmer:

  • As a mix of ranger’s and engineer’s functionalities, and having things like “illusionary bowman”, and teleporting bolts that can be fired on the ground and leave clones behind.

Same for engineer.

Give them weapon switch, but remove the button from the UI and disable the command and the functionality for them while in combat.

Make Skritt playable.

in Suggestions

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

You would need at least 3 skritt to count as a player. Not even a heroic skritt would count as a single player when alone.

Imagine, a thief skritt with dual daggers.
The armors pieces would be split between all of them, doing things like fashioning coats out of shoulder pieces and leggings, or helms out of gloves. And while one skritt uses one dagger, another uses the other, and a third brings the alt weapon and stays behind.
An skill animations would have to be made for all of them, like one pulling the others when dodging, or all of them grabbing a greatswordwhen performing a stronger attack, while only two of them would grab it for most attacks.
Imagine the warrior spinning gratsword attack: Two skritt grabbing a third by the feet, and the third grabs the sword, and there they go all three spinning.

No matter how cool it’ll look, the animations something like this would require would be insane. Insanely fun, insanely ridiculous, and insanely time-consuming.

And they’ll have to record quite some extra sets of voices, when the existing ones can’t be used with 3 other people, or a single skritt talking for the rest.

MithranArkanere.8957

Yeah. The back slot won’t do.

But as Engineers do not use the alternate weapon slot, that could be it.
There’s two slots for weapon and another for underwater. They could be enabled for engineers, and rearranged in the equipment window.
There could be just one slot, for all kits.
Or two slots, one for device kits, one for weapon kits.
Or three, one for each of the three utility skills, in order. Leaving out the medkit, and each slot affecting only its corresponding slot when there’s a kit equipped there.

Either the artificer could make them, or a new ‘tinker’ crafting discipline could be added, and it’ll make all these things the other professions do not make:
Backpacks and other back items, tonics, toys usable in cities, items that produce bundles (like an item that gives you a rock environmental weapon when used), and even a series of miniatures. In addition to the existing ones, that would appear before the special ones, and after the latest series (the current series is series 1)

[…]

Knowledge. If they don’t know that the leader and/or officers is skimming, leeching off their members, they can’t act on that.

It’s not as if the leader has receipts of anything they buy with that money.

And if influence was available for use to get things in WvW, or even commander tomes, I assure you people would still ask for taxes, because they don’t want the gold for stuff that’ll benefit the guild. They want it for themselves.

Influence is used for guild unlocks, so why taxes?.

You may say otherwise, and you may even be an exception, but taxes in most games lead to corruption, as leaders keep part of them for themselves.

I’ve even seen cases of newbies getting taxes even though they didn’t know of it, and so their first much needed coins were reduced, greatly slowing down their initial progress.

If you need money from your members for a blueprint, just ask for it.

If you ask me, there should be a way to use influence to purchase those things as an alternative payment method, instead a tax.

I’m yet to see a single person selling anything cheaper than in he trading post, and I can’t understand why would anyone refuse to use it, other than trying to scam newbies that doesn’t know of the Traing Post, and such behavior should not exist altogether.

By having all trades going through the trading post, they are controlled better, and there’s little risk of getting a microeconomy of speculating powertraders.

If anyone want to roleplay as a trader so be it, let them keep the /say and use the mail but I’m getting tired of people spamming things like “WTS X dye 10 silver” when that dye is 40 copper in the Trading Post.
So in the terms and conditions trade messages should be forbidden from /map, much like in GW1 they are frobidden from Local chat.

GW1 had trade chat, yes, but GW2 doesn’t need it, because there’s a trading post.

Costs of Travel

in Suggestions

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

The problem is not the cost, is how it’s scaled.

If you are in a level 80 area, fighting level 80 enemies, and you are level 80, all you have to do is sell 2 or 3 drops and you can travel. Not a problem.

But if you chose to stay around lower level areas and explore, you won’t earn enough to pay for the waypoint bills. You will feel forced to go to the areas of your own level, earn and then save what you earned for teleportings.

To fix that, teleporting should be based not just on your level, but also capped by the maximum level of the area you have been around lately. So you won’t need to earn 3 silver by killing countless level 5 monters, in order to travel to a level 70 area, to be able to earn enough silver to teleport again to where you wanted to go, and come back.
Or at least be capped to the maximum level of the area within that area.

Oh, and since it’s already free through the mists, to prevent people from traveling to places they don’t really need to go, increasing the load and chances of overflow, just make traveling to any city free, and the cost of traveling consider also the closest city in the calculation.

Because someone must be able to fight a shark with a knife.

- Crossbows. Usable at least by engineer, mesmer and ranger. Usable also underwater. For rangers it’ll replace the speargun when used underwater, getting its skills, so they never use a ‘gun’ at all.

Waypoints are costly, but only in low level areas, as they increase value with your level.

They should be free to any city (they are already if you travel to PvP, then to Lion’s Arch, and then use the portals), and cost depending on the shortest route, considering all Asura gates.
For example, traveling from Metrica Province to Ebonhawke should cost as much as traveling to Rata Sum, as from Rata sum you can to go Lion’s Arch, then Divinity Reach, then Ebonhawke.

Also, withing an area, they should cost based on the maximum level you can have in that area, not your own level. So if you are in a level 1-15 area, for any waypoint inside that that you’ll be level 15 max.

Using it, you would be able to replay any story in your personal story, as the character ‘remembers’ it, and also play fictional scenarios, ‘what ifs’ that are actually the character wondering what would have happened if he chose the other choice, so you can play those too, but that do not affect your story and instances.

I was a strong supporter of account-bound dyes.

But then they fixed most of the problems it had in previous betas.

You no longer have to create dyes with the silly ‘dye maker’ system that took 24 hours.

You get them quite often from drops and gathering.
You can craft them with cooking.
So it’s not a feature mostly paid with gems. With gems you just get them faster.

You can use them with any character in the account.
You can sell them in the Trading Post.
So you can use the ones you want in the characters you want, and sell the rest, so other players have it even easier to get those you don’t want but they do want.
Although the average price is 60 copper, you can sometimes see common dyes sold by a player for prices as low as 4 copper!

But the only reason I can think for it to take so long is them making it show your ‘hands’ like in the first person view in games such as The Elder Scrolls series.
Otherwise it should have been done already, as a first person view like GW1’s should be just hiding the character model client-side and placing the camera where his head was.

Personally, I don’t need a combat first person that shows my hands and skills being activated. I just want to make the character model disappear altogether, to take screenshots and read things without my character’s big head taking half of the screen and covering th view.

But no one uses that, as having 5 skills is always superior, even with initiative instead recharges, as it gives more choices during gameplay, even though you can’t ‘spam them on recharge’ like with other skills.

I’d rather have 5 skills while wielding a single dagger, pistol or sword with them. O.r with any other single-hand weapon for any profession, for that matter. The ‘free hand’ skills could be things like grabs and counters that deal no damage but give a functionality.

Friends list needs overhaul, chat colors would be helpful

You already get notifications from friends. But only in chat tabs in which you have activated “Game messages”. Click in the little arrow next to the tab name, and check the ‘game messages’ check box.

As for chat colors, it’s rather faint but all channels except Team have a hue.
Map has a faint red hue, Guild has a faint yellow hue, etc.
Team isn’t completely white either, but you need my retina (or taking a screenshot and checking the pixel in a bitmap editor) to see it, so for most people it’ll look white enough.
If you have an LCD screen, changing the angle of the screen should help you see these colors, or increase saturation if your videocard or screen have such option.

It would be cool, though, to be able to pick and choose colors for individual players in your friend list, and yourself. Lines from guild members could have the channel color in the name, but golden guild color in the chat line, so you can notice them better too.

Doors can be opened and closed, but they must be ‘enabled’ to do that. When they are selectable, they seem to trigger their own animation, and block entrance when closed.
This appears in a few places, I’m guessing it was so time consuming that they stopped doing that altogether.
Interestingly enough, some are active for some people, but not for others.
For example, my noble human can open and close a house in Manor in Salma district, while my commoner can’t.
Let’s hope they eventually have time to enable more closing doors as they fix problems in maps.

As for chairs, I found that rather annoying.

I’ve seen games that have sitting animations, and you must position yourself so it looks like you sat on the chair, so you can also sit in the air.
If chairs you can ‘use’ to sit on them would take too much time, at least that would do, as long as most chairs are at the same height, it should work.

Option to disable activation with right mouse button.

I use the right mouse button to move camera a whole lot, but as a result, it keeps detecting clicks all over the place, and since right clicks activate things for some reason, I keep activating things I don’t want to activate, which can be deadly in some places.

As I absolutely never use right click to activate and use double click and F instead, I’d like to be able to disable right click activation to prevent all these annoying and game-breaking accidental activations with the right mouse button.

Character-specific keybinds

It has been suggested some times, and it’s in several suggestion compilations already.

I must agree with this. At least for elementalist and engineer, I use different keys.

At least “movement” and “combat” should be character specific.

Resetting traits anywhere

They already considered that.

If you could just change traits anywhere, choosing a build would be inconsequential.

You prepare, and then go fight.

I believe saving ‘builds’ in templates is already in the oven and will eventually be in the Live game.
I can’t put my hand in the fire for that, though, as I can’t remember exactly where I read it.
