Hey thanks for those explanations, correct me if I’m wrong but according to what you says about guardians , in big WvW fight the class is closer to a traditional healer than to a tank/offtank right ?
What worry me with that is the gameplay ,
Do we still play as tanks and rush in the melee while dealing some damage and disturbing enemy lines with CC ?
Or are we just sitting back there trying to heal and buff allies ?
While I like the idea of giving some support to allies while standing in the middle of big melee fights, I really don’t like the idea of using a staff and staying in back line acting like a healer or something.
So if I can have confirmation on what kind of gameplay guardians have in WvW I think it will help me knowing if it fit my gameplay style or not
Thanks again and sorry for bad english (not my main language)
Thank you very much for both replys ,
@bunmaster does the sticky post " [Guide] DPS Guardian for PVE" is the actual meta build you are talking about ?
Hey all I’m probably going to roll a guard soon and I need someone to enlight me on guardians PVE and WvW aspect. (I know nothing about those mode, only played in Spvp since I bought the game)
I keep reading that guardian use full zerker gear in PVE, is that true ? if so, then how do you survive ? and does that mean that guardian is just a dps class in PVE ?
Now WvW, I see a lot of wvw guardians says to go tanky with a lot of regen and play as support , but then isn’t it hard to kill people ? and what’s the purpose of being tanky in a game where you have no taunt or aggro skill to force people to attack you instead of squishy people next to you ?
I’d like to play guard like offtank in other games, I mean medium damage and good personal survivability, but I keep reading that guard is more like a tanky healer/support to the group , so maybe I’m wrong about guard ? or maybe warrior is more the type of plate class I’m looking for ?
Questions might sounds dumb due to my minsunderstanding of pve/wvw so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong about anything
Thanks
Hey all , so I want to create a plate class but I’m not sure which one to choose.
As I never played either of them I must admit that they both looks the same to me, tanky with a lot of regen and medium to low damage.
I plan to WvW with that char and I don’t want to die instantly when I’ll step in a big fight , according to the class name guardian seems to be the tankiest but I keep reading guardian is more of a support, so do warriors also survive well in big fights ?
All in all , could anyone tell me what’s the main difference between war and guard ?
Thanks
Thank you very much for all those explanations , while it sounds more risky to use a sword you got me convinced that the reward is better than GS
I’ll prolly use a GS time to learn strategies and will end up using swords when I’ll feel comfortable with every dungeons.
I think I now understand what could be called the best PVE build
and again thanks you all for help.
Hey thanks for all the answers, all those builds are good inspirations
I now get the general idea of a pve mesmer, big lines being phantasm , then mantra to max self dmg , and reflections (situational).
Something I fail to understand thought is why everyone is using sword as a main hand in both weapon set, while in 2nd weapon set Greatsword seems to fit well with such a type of build ?
If the reason is purely the sword auto attack doing more damage and applying vulnerability, doesnt it get balanced by the fact that GS is ranged and gives more flexibility in fight ?
I mean while you have to dodge things in melee range (sword auto attack) you stop attacking but you can still dps from range with a GS right ? So in some way it makes up for the lower damage.
Also I don’t know how aggro is managed but standing in melee range you have more chance to get aggro right ? as I saw no taunt in any class atm.
And lastly if anyone could confirm that with such a type of build/gameplay , full berserk is the way to gear right ?
Thanks
Hey everyone, I recently reinstalled the game after a long break, and all I know about GW2 atm is sPVP (lvl 30+ spvp and still lvl 1 PVE), so yes I’m totally noob when it comes to PVE , but I plan to lvl my mesmer and start doing PVE content.
First of all I should clarify that I plan to play my mesmer as a DPS (in case mesmer can play another role in PVE) , and what I’m looking for is a build for end game dungeons.
Everything I read about PVE is most of the time outdated.
While I know that we have many viable and various build in PVP, the few I’ve read about PVE builds is that phantasm is the only viable choice when it comes to end game dungeons, but as I’m not familiar with PVE here I come to ask for some help to the PVE veterans players
So could anyone gives me something we should call “the best PVE phantasm build” as a DPS mesmer ?
Thanks
ps : (sry for bad english)
Oh ok thank you very much for explanations.
Hey everyone, I stopped playing some month ago and it probably been asked a few time but is it still possible to switch server ?
I remember that some month ago we could buy an item from cash shop for that but for some reason I can’t find it anymore.
My actives friends are playing on a different server than mine and if the transfer token has been removed from the game , then I don’t mind going with the “delete all character and recreate one” option , thought I have another question about that
Will I keep my SPVP lvl if I delete all my characters and recreate a new one on another server ? and if I put all my items in banks will I be able to get it back on the new server ?
Thanks all.
Down state is a kitten mechanic, nothing more to add, everytime I try to post something about it they delete my post.
Reward bad players who makes tons of mistakes , and push them into being even more noobs and bad, this helps nothing but zerg play , and to all the ones saying its teamplay, no its not, teamplay and skilled gameplay in general is something that involve taking care about your positioning/skill rotation/escape mechanic/heal…etc and not putting yourself in danger 100% of the time because you have some dedicated players around you who spend their time rezzing you while you die from rushing solo into a group and every stupid things possible.
I know it’s supposed to be a teamplay game but people acting like noobs and dying everytime should be assuming the consequences, having a team full of guardian angels is not “skilled” its kittened.
Atm it’s more rewarding to play like a noob and begging for a rezz everytime you die from all the mistakes you makes than trying to be skilled and take 2 players at a time, cuz you will end being the one struggling to stomp the baddies, while they’ll have an easyer time rezzing the baddies.
But here GW2 devs decided to go like “Don’t worry you will never assume your mistakes, and don’t hesitate to put yourself in danger, there’s always a guard ready to rez you in less time that it takes to stomp you, go full glass canon and enjoy spamming 1 button in the middle of ennemy team till your whole team insta rez you”
The only thing I think about Stomp/Downed state, is that it should be removed from the game, so no more balance/unbalance around that stupid mechanic, and people will think twice before making stupid moves (that in the ends reward them anyway)
Revive > Stupid Moves
That game is a 2010+ game and such a basic feature is not yet implemented in the game… really…
I’m the kind of player who like to customize ALL my skills/hotkey , so whatever the weapon I use I want my CC to be set on key 3 and let’s say my ground targeted attack set on key 5 , but with the “revolutionary” system of GW2 , when switching weapon my CC are now moving from key 3 to key 4 and my ground targeted attack from key 4 to key 3, a bit annoying when trying to learn some intuitive gameplay mechanic.
I don’t like to play that way when I know that such a feature is a basic thing in every mmo, it’s not intuitive at all when playing, not talking about getting used to 2 set of weapon and finally switching to something else.
As stated I like to play my own way and this skill bar customization means lot to me.
I’d like to rearange skillbar to find the way I’m most comfortable with and most competitive with, for the moment I’m stuck with a way I don’t like to play that I have to adapt myself to, which in the end doesn’t bring me to the lvl I would be if I’d set my own skillbar.
So just implement it, I’m sure I’m not the only one annoyed by that.
