Hello Rubi, I have a question.

The more balanced, spontaneous fighting sounds much more appealing to me than the ppt driven WvW. However, I am on a low populated server with a non-existant queue.

Will players be able to participate in the Edge of the Mists if there is no queue? Or will I need to transfer upwards to be able to play EotM?

So, if prices for server transfers were based on WvW population, what would a fair distribution of costs look like from the lowest population servers to the highest? Keep in mind that making it completely impossible to transfer to a server puts a burden on other players. That doesn’t mean that you couldn’t have an incredibly high price, just that completely blocked isn’t an option.

Transfer to lowest Tier/Populated servers for each region needs to be free. Any gem cost, even if it is very little, will turn people away just for the mere fact there is kitten cost. Is this an option or do your overlords insist on having a gem cost for every single transfer?

There has been debate on what exactly defines “low” WvW server since there is PvE population, not everyone does WvW. Right now however it is crystal clear even without statistics which servers need help, which are in the middle, and which are completely dominating due to population. If we ever get to the point where population advantage vs success becomes too muddled – that means things are much better place than they are now. So pick a metric (rank, server pop, total hours spent in wvw, etc.) and go with it, and adjust as things start to balance out.

Sticking to the lines of transfers, what are reasonable restrictions to place on players after they transfer? No WvW for the rest of the match? No WvW for 24 hours? Would that help any or would it actually exacerbate the problem?

No server bonuses for a period of time like 1-2 weeks. Low priority in any WvW queues for the rest of the season.

Arbitrarily limiting WvW participation would exacerbate the problem, because the transfers we want to encourage (high to low) will get the full artificial punishment and the server will not get their help, while the bandwagons (low to high) are already being hindered by the queue and near maxed out in population. So this hurts low pop much more than bandwagons.

It sounds like you enjoy playing the Guardian more, but haven’t mastered it yet since you are dying alot.

Warriors and Guardians are both top notch right now in WvW.
However, if you look at the history of the game the Warrior’s balance has been extremely volatile (nerfing to useless then buffing crazy op), so there is no telling if the Warrior will continue to be a top dog class.
The Guardian on the other hand has had the least volatile balancing of any class (outside of sPvP bunkers) – they have always been reliable and valued in groups throughout the game’s lifespan.

Based on your post, I recommend you stick with the Guardian. Or at least give him more playing time to improve your skill and find a build that meshes with your playstyle.

I’d recommend Warrior or Ranger. Complexity definitely exists for these classes, but you can get away without them.

For example, when you create the Ranger make sure you equip two tanky pets (like bear and drake), so you will never have to worry about micromanaging them. Then purchase a Longbow as their main weapon. From there you can gradually explore different options as the character and player grow.

There isn’t really a specific “Ranged DPS” class, everyone is capable of putting out decent numbers at range if you spec for it. Thief is the only class that lacks a specific long range weapon (but he still has medium ranged pistol for strong ranged dps).

Are there any other details you can provide about your playstyle?

Other PvP games don’t try and fix imbalanced teams by buffing stats, giving handicaps, or handing out more points and rewards to the undermanned team. They fix player imbalance by balancing the teams!

I still don’t know why Anet refuses to permanently allow free transfers to the lowest tier, lowest populated servers. I remember when they did this in just a week, my server’s (FC) WvW activity almost doubled. Imagine if they had kept it open.

-Scythes are not usable as a weapon in this game, only as a gathering tool.

Warrior focuses purely on the weapons and martial arts with basically no magic, Guardian on the other hand uses magic with almost every attack. Both are heavily armored, sword and board. Warrior is very offensive, Guardian is more defensive and team support – but can definitely be played as dps focused. Based on your description I recommend Guardian as your first toon.

I would recommend no less than level 30 with at least one elite skill and the most current armor. Even then, you will be an easy kill if you are separated from your group/zerg.

Don’t worry nobody should be angry at you for being low level. Your activities (such as dying alot) won’t affect them in any significant way since this is mass PvP. Only the very organized guild groups care about rally bait.

Warrior is a more aggressive class. They are capable of both powerful burst and sustained damage. In that sense they are more flexible on how they want to attack (from an offensive mindset). They have the most weapons to choose of any class. Their single target lockdown (stuns, knockdown) is considered unmatched given the right weapon combinations and utility skills. They can also give AoE buffs with Banners and Shouts. Warriors have plenty offensive mobility (leaps/dashes toward the enemy), and heavy armor to withstand attacks.

Ranger leans much more toward sustain damage and attrition fights. The Ranger primary mechanic is the Animal Companion, who has his own skills. While Rangers do not have as many weapons to choose from as the Warrior, there are many different pet types which gives the Ranger his diversity. Rangers can buff allies with spirits (stationary NPC). Rangers have a mix of offensive and defensive mobility, with many evasive skills to mitigate damage.

But they didn’t, at least not in NA. Telling the original T1 players to fix this problem by buying gems isn’t completely fair, when it was Anet that encouraged this massive bandwagon with their Season/League system.

Thief. Stealth let’s them escape from most bad situations, they are highly mobile, have decent condition damage. Considered the top dog roaming class in WvW. Dual roaming thieves are one of the strongest combinations in the game.

Warriors are decent roaming as well, good at killing things, straightforward, and integrate better into larger groups than thieves. Mesmers are an excellent dueling class, and have access to stealth which is huge for roaming.

At the grocery store, some customers take much longer than others at the cashier. Nevertheless, the average customer doesn’t require a complex algorithm to understand that a very long line means you will wait for a very long time, and a much shorter line with fewer people means you won’t wait as long.

Anet should allow players to view the number of players ahead of them in the queue. The players can then estimate for themselves based on past experience.

First make sure you are level 30 minimum (when you get your elite). Level 80 fully geared is preferable.

Next, press M. Locate the nearest commander icon (a blue icon on map). Navigate to that location, avoiding enemy confrontation until you reach them.

Introduce yourself, then follow the group and join them in battle wherever they go. Don’t forget to loot slain enemies.

Living Story, Fractals of the Mists, and World vs World are the end-game in GW2.

Living Story is brand new content being added on a bi-weekly basis. But it goes away after a limited time. This is one of the primary ways Anet is trying to revolutionize the genre, so don’t miss out on it. Any character can participate since your level is upscaled to whatever is needed to complete the content.

Fractals are your more traditional endgame mini-dungeons where you can grind higher fractal levels and ascended gear. You are able to enter the fractals as an upscaled character, but most groups beyond tier 1 will still require level 80 and fully geared.

WvW is ongoing war against other worlds (servers). Unless you are in a packed top tier world, they could probably use your help on the front lines. It ranges from casual PvP to hardcore guild groups – so don’t worry about going in and others getting mad at you for being inexperienced. You should probably wait until you are at least level 30+.

Revolutionary idea or just plain crazy?

in WvW

Posted by: NornBearPig.9814

NornBearPig.9814

There is still a problem with how rapidly a large zerg can raze over a keep even if it is upgraded. Since getting those upgrades asap is the priority once the keep has been swapped back to your side, it becomes about whether your side want to continue ‘buying’ ppt with gold. In T1 servers with large playerbase this won’t be such a problem, but outmanned servers might not be motivated to throw their hard earned gold into a structure for PPT, just to have it taken by a zerg they could not hope to defend against. So it might make T1 more interesting, but for other servers it means the dominant server will dominate even harder.

Do you agree w/ FREE Transfers to med servers?

in WvW

Posted by: NornBearPig.9814

NornBearPig.9814

Yes.

1. There is a correlation between WvW activity and total server population.

2. Total population doesn’t actually matter that much for PvEers. With guesting, they are not held hostage to a single server. With overflow, they will never see a queue nor be put in a ridiculously overloaded zone.

Total population has a MUCH bigger impact on a WvWer’s experience than it does for PvE.

Necro is more sustain damage and debilitating conditions, Thief can annoy people with stealth spam but is more bursty. Ele is the most supportive of the 3 and is the most versatile due to attunement system. Thieves are very strong in WvW, Eles are valued higher in PvE groups, necros are so-so in both. In terms of difficulty from easiest to hardest, necro->thief->ele (imo).

Mesmers have strong burst with shatter builds. Eles are also capable of strong burst. Warriors have strong melee burst. Ranger Engi and Necro tend lean more toward sustain damage.
