I’m sure they’re going to put in other ways to get them.

I’m also sure they’re going to wait about a month to do so. Why? Because that’s when they’ll start showing up from the laurels. ANet made this a very obvious time gate for a reason, they’re not about to shoot themselves in the foot by bypassing it already.

No, they’ve got a lot of OTHER ways to shoot themselves in the foot, instead.

Honestly, as as solution to some of these problems I would like to see the skills that revived downed players also revive the dead ones.

I very much agree. There’s an elementalist skill that, I believe, used to revive dead as well as downed. Then it got adjusted to only downed, and off of my skill bar it went. Why was it changed? Why not let them be used for both?

I'd rather be fishing

Palador.2170

Wouldn’t work, the coast lines are lousy with skelks, drakes, or undead. We’d get aggroed 10 times before we could get a cast off.

Anet would have to change A LOT of spawns and aggro ranges.

Or just have designated fishing points with no enemies within 50 yards. They could even be gated in places like Orr.

Also wouldn’t work. We already have people dragging monsters onto people that are AFK just to watch them die. We all know they’d do it to fishers, too. You can’t escape jerks while online.

As for fishing? Personally, I enjoy the “bang, bang, done” rate of gathering already in the game. I don’t think I want something that’s highly involved and takes more time. (Note: I said “think”. I’d still try to be open minded and give it a try.) Or, if fishing isn’t the only way to get certain things, then I could just avoid it and leave it to those that like it.

Housing.. What's your opinion?

Palador.2170

We need guild houses, at the very least.

The more that people can adjust and decorate personal or guild/group housing, the more interesting and impressive they can be with what they somehow manage to create. I played City of Heroes, and some of the super group bases I saw in there were truly mind blowing. I also found that the more the group did with their base, the more important it became to them. In some ways, it became as much a part of the group as their name, almost a long-standing character in its own right.

When I made my first charr (male), I’d not seen many in game yet. Looking at the fur colors, I decided that there would be a lot of “stealth kitties” out there with black fur and red eyes. So, I went with white fur and green eyes. I threw away his town clothes shirt, and I loved how he just glowed when in the sunlight, but I began to see just how many white charr there are. When I rerolled him later, I went with grey and brown tiger stripes.

My female charr engineer is all white, and she’ll stay all white. She’s a homage to one of my CoH characters, a white sabertoothed tiger woman called Timid.

250 years ago it wasn’t all that uncommon to see players running around with mountainous stacks of gold. Back then the people even traded in platinum, which was also in such abundance that alternate trading became the norm.

Nowadays gold is a rare commodity, platinum isn’t even in trade anymore. The people have even reverted to other lesser coins, coppers and silver, just to fill the gap. Makes one wonder, when did such a huge economic downfall struck the world.

It’s all been flushed down the Mystic Toilet.

Not everyone has those people to call on for things like this.

“Make friends” or “join a good guild” may sound like an ideal answer to the problem, but it’s not for everyone. The fact is, the devs have made a part of the game that forces you to rely on other players being decent people. And as we all know, the internet and online games have more than their fair share of self-centered kittens.

Actually….yeah. On this ONE, I would have to say “yes”. Engineers should have some kind of portal-like ability. Maybe a “blast catapult” or something.

There’s at least two places in-game where NPC engineers can launch your character. One in Lion’s Arch (to reach a vista), and the catapult/cowtapult. Giving engineers a portal-ish ability with different mechanics to it would be a great improvement.

Just don’t make it a kit that equips you with a white, gun-like device that you use to generate the portals. It would be fun, but Valve might sue.

OT to steampunk, but will mention this as an example of the randomness of Tech in game.

Apparently the Seraph can’t grasp the cannon thing. It isn’t a human thing, since every Bandit with 3 people in his gang has one. Every pirate living in a wrecked ship, down by the river, has one. Vigil has em. But.. a major arm of the Krytan military, naaah. Just funny to me.

I think that has more to do with Logan being a moron than anything else. If the Seraph wanted GOOD cannons, they’d need to go to the source. I can’t exactly see Logan going, helm in hand, to ask Rytlock if they can have some charr engineers help them to defend Divinity’s Reach.

Ya know, I was going to ask you what you’re talking about, but I did a quick google search first. This is what I found:

http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs/Meleagar/112012/24237_NCSoft-Sold-Arenanet-and-GW2-Out-For-Nexon-Investment

It all makes a ton of sense now…

That was, quite honestly, the most disturbing thing I’ve red regarding GW2. I really hope it’s wrong. Time will tell… -sad face-

While you’re waiting for time to tell, read this:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/09/markets-korea-stocks-idUSL4N0AE2UK20130109

The fact is, NC Soft is hurting. They’re going to squeeze whatever money they can out of GW2 now, even if it’s bad for the game in the long run.

BUT WAIT… can’t ArenaNet split off from NC Soft and become their own bosses? They have something in place for this if needed, right? Well…maybe not. Let’s take a look at what happened to City of Heroes and Paragon Studios.

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/3/feature/7015/City-of-Heroes-Profitable-or-Not.html

Even if you can’t trust the numbers that the “anonymous” source and NC Soft gave, there’s a few things that you can still easily see. Paragon wanted out from under NC Soft, and NC Soft responded by nuking the entire studio and game. There was truely no warning, they were working on upcoming content and balance adjustments Thursday evening, Friday morning they were told they were fired and the studio was closing. Don’t think for a moment that NC Soft wouldn’t do that to ArenaNet too, if they think they’ll try to get away.

Also, what is spam? Imo it is advertisement involving something illegal like RMT. Otherwise LFG would also be spam & guild advertising themselves is also spam.

There is a rare version of the bell that is permanent. Also, if you repeat LFG and guild advertisements too fast, the game DOES consider them to be spam, and starts to limit your ability to speak.

I play a Staff Elementalist, and I use AoE attacks against single targets.

Why?

Because 90% of staff ele attacks are aoe, we literally have no choice and close to all our damaging aoes are clearly telegraphed and can be dodged out of by players who have a clue.

True. I play only PvE, and didn’t think to add in comments about PvP. It’s true, though. Not only are most staff Ele attacks AoE, but I can’t imagine even a half-way competent player standing in them without good reason.

The one time I entered PvP was with my ranger, to get the wolf pet in the Eternal Battleground. More than once I saw a red circle appear, and I got the youthful feline out of it, usually before taking any actual damage.

I play a Staff Elementalist, and I use AoE attacks against single targets.

Why? To create a form of burst damage. I’ll often start a fight with Earth #2, and while that’s building up, I’ll change and drop a Fire #2 in the same place. The fire goes off, then the earth blast catches them as they start to run towards me (Fire/Blast combo, by the way). At that point, it’s mostly my auto attacks, with occasional changes to earth to drop another Earth #2 to keep bleeds going.

If I could do this with more effective single target attacks, I’d gladly do so. If you want to nerf our AoEs, then by all means, turn the Elementalist staff into some kind of arcane sniper rifle and I’ll use and abuse it.

Lacaz Bloodcrier
Blood Legion Necromancer

Good, solid charr name for a necro. 9/10.

Hellow Blasthammer: Charr Guardian. He was given a girl’s name by his parents, who believed that the “no line between male and female” idea needed to be pushed further than it was. Thankfully, he’s learned to take it in stride, and has developed an odd sense of humor because of it. A member of the Blast Warband, he lives by their motto: “Level everything”. The hammer part of his name comes from his preferred fighting style, relentless and unyielding. A big, dark grey furred charr with orange stripes, when off duty he often wanders around shirtless and wearing rabbit ears upon his head. Nobody’s asked about the rabbit ears yet.

Tasha Smallfury: Human (Yes, human) Warrior. While passing through norn lands, the Fury warband found a very young human girl by herself in the cold wilderness. Not wishing to do anything to upset the norns they were there to do business with, they bundled up the child and took her along to Hoelbrak. By the time they arrived (several days later), she had grown on them. When asked for a name for the child, one of the warband quickly replied with “Tasha”. Making her an honorary warband member was a small step after that. Frequent visits from the Fury warband allowed them to grow close, and they added to the norn training she received. When the Fury warband was wiped out by the Flame Legion, she declared that she would carry the warband name forward and make the Flame Legion pay a hundred-fold. Small even for a human, Tasha is practical and pragmatic, but very hard to deter. Trained to fight opponents larger and stronger than she is, she fights with a greatsword and rifle, in a style that some have referred to as “berserker calm”.

Palador.2170

I agree that they missed a good opportunity with the “Legendary” weapons. But, and let’s be honest here, should all “legendary” weapons be ungodly powerful?

No.

I’d suggest renaming most of the current legendary weapons to something new. Legendary weapons should be something else, sometimes even minor seeming things that carry an unusual importance.

An example might be the bow of a legendary centaur archer. Doesn’t have to be a very special bow, but it was HIS. Or maybe the dagger that was the first weapon to draw blood when the humans invaded charr lands ages ago. Or a staff said to be made from the first tree that ever grew on Tyria. Things you chase after not because of the power they have, but because of the story you can get into as you hunt them down.

Maybe they’ll add something like this someday. Side stories that you can play through or not as you wish, but they take you all over as you track down one of these items. Add a couple to each level range, and you suddenly have a second story people can play alongside their personal story.

Role play in these game? I really assume people really dont know what is real roleplay and what you need to have a rpg game.

Heres you only have classes nothing more.
Anyway i will dont teach people how to role in a game that is not maked for RPG model, also you need a pk style to learn how to role in a game.

As always i do if you never played Ultima Online you dont know what is a MMORPG. of these style. For a good game you need good mechanics not only graphics.

What you need for RP:

  • 2 or more people
  • active imaginations

That’s it. Any extras, such as being able to show the character you’ve created, and a very nice world setting to play in, are nice but not needed. While GW2’s chat system is a bit RP-unfriendly, the world setting is very interesting and the characters you can make here are great. There’s RP here, and it ranges from the awful to the epic.

As to the OP: You’re going to have at least a few stray RPers on every server, because they find playing with a friend on that server more important than playing on the RP server. It doesn’t matter if said RP server is official or not. Also, you should never underestimate the obsessive power of a bunch of kitten off RPers, even in PvP.

In my opinion, Magic find needs to go

Palador.2170

First, I need to admit that I’m NOT a power gamer. I don’t have a level 80 yet (but I’m having fun with all 7 of my characters), and I doubt I’ll ever get a legendary anything.

That all said…

Magic Find gear is, to me, an odd thing to deal with. My views on it differ if I’m playing solo or with others.

Solo? By putting on MF gear instead of my best, I’m trading some of my power for better drops. I get better rewards for a slightly tougher challenge. I like that, though I’m not sure that the risk/reward ratio is correct.

With others? With my best gear on, I’m giving 100% to the team. If I put on MF gear, I give less than my best, but get a better reward for it. That… seems REALLY backwards to me. What’s worse is that if a second player on the team also has a set of MF gear but stays with his best, he’s still giving 100%, and getting LESS reward than I am for it. That doesn’t seem right at all.

I’m not going to say Magic Find needs to go, or needs to be kept. I will say that I don’t like it the way it is now, and I’d like to see something better take its place. I’m open to ideas on what that “something better” could be.
