Can't farm gold in other map?

Pffft farm? If it’s for gold my opinion would be “not playing the game right”. Now if its for certain mats for collections etc I would say “this is what Map Rewards is for and is the reason we can go back to MANY MANY maps to farm”.

Sure the general argument “but you can farm gold instead of mats/what you need and just buy them” could be used here but my counter to this is then you have people coming to the forums with such complaints as “this game is boring and just a grind as all we have to do is farm, farm, farm, grind, grind, grind and there is only 1-2 maps worth doing this on”.

It’s a mentality that people place on themselves which could ultimately kill or make the game less fun for them – sheeple, that’s all I can say. :P

Now if you are needing gold then yes by all means do what you can to make it. But does this mean that you have to do the best method which will have you soon bored/burnt out of the game?

You could instead like, you know, play various game methods for fun which also are not too bad at making cash while also working on other goals in a passive way. Some examples:

1 – Fractals – not too bad for cash while also working on achievements, building up your agony and exploring new areas/stories while doing so.

2 – PvP – Ideally during the Seasons as the gold is a lot easier to come by. Again besides the gold other reasons could be achievements besides that what else fun/challenge.

3 – WvW – similar to PvP fun/achievements.

4 – Achievements in general, especially collections. Doing this will send you to other maps which will have you doing events/achievements etc.

That’s a few off the top of my head and I am sure there are many more.

So and once you finally have this item then what? You will go back to months without logging in again? I mean really, if you are not even playing to be able to get the item will having it make you play any more?

I just don’t get it lol….

PS – You don’t have to “play mmo all day” you only need to log in and check the gem store for 5 secs each day, not too hard to do….

Is it worth to do story multiple times ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

Reasons for doing the story more than once:

1 – Each play through per char will give you 3 BLTC keys. There is an extra one for LS2 and 1 more for the HOT story.

2 – Free exotics here and there as well as all other rewards such as skins you may not have unlocked yet. The pact skins are a good example. So too are Auric for HOT story.

3 – You need at least 2 more play throughs if you want access to all 3 order weapon/armour skins. Keep in mind these are needed for various collections.

4 – A few achievements related to each race. I think you need to do the story for these.

5 – Exploring the stories and lores of each race and other options for those races. This alone is what got me into alt-ing and having at least 1 of each race. Oh btw this is how I discovered “key farming” years ago just after release of the game. I also believe I was the first one to bring it to this forum’s and anet’s attention. So yeah you all can hate me now lmao.

I am sure there are many other reasons but I think these are the most important/obvious and should be enough to let people decide if is worth their time to do the PS again.

Atm I am dividing my time between this game and a few others but when I do have the motivation to play here with the bulk of my time I am in the process of using up all my level up scrolls as well as tomes/etc to instantly boost a newly made char to 80. I am doing this for 3 reasons:

1 – a new form of key farming.
2 – A more fun way of unlocking skins (auric for example) as well as getting other goodies like exotics and dyes (dyes come from quest reward bags at a pretty good rate).
3 – Experiencing ALL the different quest options per race/order/misc option and seeing those outcomes.

I don’t consider it worth the time or effort to redo LS2. I have done it on all of my chars (9 perm) and believe me it’s not worth it. In general it took me 3-4 days per chars and it’s just so tedious and boring. But then again at that point in time all my chars had PVT gear (which I have now replaced) so maybe that was just my experience because of that. Sure you do get a Key part way through it but imo not worth it really.

Also atm I am currently running new chars through the HOT story. Compared to LS2 this is a very different experience:

1-2 days total to complete.
1 BLTC key partway through.
Free Auric skins as well as a couple of others (bladed and those order related backpacks).

I also save the boxes of exotic gear you can get from one of the rewards. Basically each 6 chars you run through the HOT story can give you a full set of Viper’s exotic gear or those other 2 choices.

I hope I have given enough info for you to decide.

PS – I did notice on my newest char and his play through of his PS he managed to get 30 or so Tier 6 leather from the PS alone. This was not from salvaging anything or from boxes. If I remember right it came in form of a straight up reward from a pop up on screen in 3 batches of 10 each. So this here could also be another bonus/incentive.

Race-Change Item in Gem Store?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

It may be complicated to change race and keeping uncompleted progress of main story but if you finished it then I don’t see the complication. Choices you made in the main story have no effect on the rest of the content anyways.
So make it available for characters with max level that have finished their main story or reset it to beginning if you haven’t completed it. doesn’t matter.

Possible problems of this:

1- Would resetting your race/PS also reset rewards from the PS? If so here we go again with key farming except only for those who are spending gems. There is a total of 3 keys per char from PS + 1 from LS2 and 1 from HOT. So I am not just talking the lvl 10 quests here. Oh and I should have mentioned that atm ONLY the key from the lvl 10 story is limited to once per week.

So people would be able to simply change their race, do the PS and grab 3 keys from there, decide if they want to do LS2 (not worth it) or Hot as well for an extra 1 or 2. Reset race and repeat with only the lvl 10 quest key being missed due to the current one per weekly rule. Rinse and repeat. Not to also forget all the other rewards on top from these stories. Weapon skins, free exotics etc etc.

2 – You are overlooking the fact now with Living story stuff they ARE looking back at choices we made when we made our chars and even certain things we did in our PS. Example. I ran a new Norn Ele through the PS recently and then took him to HOT and did his story there. A certain NPC was still angry at him because he let her husband die in his PS.

I am sure there would be many, many small things like this that we are not even aware of that could all be effected by this. Even if anet were to catch them all before any kind of release of such a new feature I am sure the work would be immense for them.

This has been a great thread (I hope it keeps going), I never though it would go past more that a few posts. It’s encouraging to know there are so many others playing the same as I do.

We should form a guild, and then never do any guildy stuff, no chat, no voip, no missions. Just have a tag that so if we run into each other we can /wave or /bow and continue on our separate ways.

Lol too funny! Well you can all join mine if you like. It’s level 30 odd or so and all the work was done by just me and 1 other person, who for some reason has left now so it’s just me. :P

I don’t see how introvert you are when you are willing to start a thread about it.

Fun fact about introverts. Introverts have little to no trouble with text based communications, it’s only face-to-face group settings (like parties and things) that introverts struggle with. It’s not uncommon for introverts to be extremely outspoken in online communities, and more often than not be more outspoken than the extroverts. Social Media for example was actually a introvert creation that was initially populated by introverts, until all the extroverts had to get involved.

Yeah like I said above – gaming in general and being online was pretty much the same thing. Of course console gaming then became popular after a while and of course with the xbox/Ps3/4 online capabilities that too soon got invaded by the extro’s.

Then THEY have the audacity to point at us and say things like “this is a mmo why are you here? Go play a single player game”. shakes head

The times, they are a changing lol.

I don’t think you understand what I was talking about.

Introverts can be in online (or really any text based medium) extremely proactive and involved. I for example am a textbook introvert IRL, yet I am all over these boards, and spend 90% of my time in game doing group content.

Introversion doesn’t inherently carry over into gaming, and many introverts use gaming as a haven from a world otherwise dominated by extroverts.

Oh no I totally understand what you are saying and I agree. I am also the same in game, very vocal especially in map chat if a topic of interest comes up. I also don’t shy away from group content, I do pug when needed (fractals etc). It is also evident from my forum activity here as well. Yet in real life I am super introvert.

I was more replying to your post to the part I put in bold that’s all.

I prefer to use the term “unsociable” rather than “anti-social” and I think there is a BIG difference.

I was pondering about my post last night as well. Being an introvert doesn’t mean “I refuse to have any interaction with any human being”. Someone who’s an introvert is not an absolute anti-socialite. It would be more accurate to have a scale of sociability (very social, social, less social, unsocial, etc), taking into account the frequency and type of interactions (both online and offline; are people more evasive when encountering another, or are they totally okay with standing next to another player?) with other people. I’m sure there are other factors too, but these are the only ones I can think of right now.

It was a valid concern and you were right to point that out.

Thanks for replying and thinking about it. However I still think you don’t quite understand what I am meaning.

A true “anti-social” person is not just one who avoids social contact. That is more what I call an “unsocial” person. A true “anti-social” person is a trouble maker. Online they may be trolls or flamers (but even then that is taking the label low and applying it loosely).

Real life they could be bullies, criminals or belong to hate groups and will go out of their way or take any and every opportunity to do things to people that could harm them just for their own pleasure.

I would like to think that NONE of those kind of people play this game or frequent these forums.

Again thanks for posting and responding. I am not trying to single you out or anything. I just take every opportunity that I can to try and get people to realize the difference between the two as it is far too often people get the terms incorrect and good people get labelled as absolute monsters.

I didn’t google too much but hopefully this can explain a little more what I mean:

Another introvert here although my posting history may say otherwise. To that I would counter – Reddit would ideally be more the platform for extroverts than this forum perhaps? So too could be those types of players who don’t even visit the forums who would rather just scream or moan in game about all the issues of the game rather than bring it to the forums. I mean “hello old LA!” am I right?

I would like to clarify something that someone early on in this thread said tho, that being:

I fit the definition of “introvert” too. A little anti-social, prefer to play alone, but will play in a group only when there’s a group event in the open-world. Otherwise, if I can solo it, I’ll go alone \o/

I prefer to use the term “unsociable” rather than “anti-social” and I think there is a BIG difference.

Having said that I don’t think that it should be a surprise to many that many introverts may play this game. Especially if we came from GW1 – think bout it.

So how do I play this game? Well, I do what I want and when I want. So it can be hard for people to try and get me to do what they want and when they want. But I certainly don’t play alone on purpose. I just do what I like and that may or may not involve playing alongside other players or being vocal when I am.

It’s nice that this game allows that and offers the option of not having to rely on others too much. This game is just designed in a way that can accommodate both social and unsocial players. The LFG system is a prime example of this so too is the open world bosses and metas. You don’t HAVE TO party up or be associated with people to do these. You just turn up, join with possibly many other “unsociable” players and get the job done. Everyone is happy and can then go back on their merry way.

I also would not want the game to go backwards with ideas and talk which has come about recently of adding more and more instance game content and less open world. That is not something even unsociable people want from these types of games. That’s more for the hardcore raiders who want a real challenge.

Bottom line is this game is designed well for both social and unsocial players. And I commend it for being so. Heck if you think about it even just being online or playing games in general maybe 10-20 years ago you could be labelled “unsociable”. But of course the times they are a changing and more and more people are turning to technologies that take them more away from the real world.

So really this should come as no surprise to people that unsocial people play mmos. I mean hello lmao! Believe it or not YOU have actually been turned into an “unsociable” person and you didn’t even know it!

DISCLAIMER – Of course this statement (the above paragraph) may or may not be true depending on how much time you spend away from others in real life and such, but still it had to be said and it may be creeping up on you without you even knowing it (turning into a yucky “unsociable”) – but this was said in jest so don’t take it seriously! :P

You’re missing the point entirely most of us me included have seen and played the 2 first world 3 and 4 are yet to come, and because of empty promises we get 1 and 2 over and over and over again and every year it comes out on April fools day and the joke is on you the player who takes the bait!!!

Have fun out there and don’t forget your fishing rod.

“empty promises”?

I don’t ever remember SAB being promised at all, especially in the game manifesto at launch or before launch. In fact the whole thing was a total surprise (a nice one indeed) when it was released and if I recall was the work of one individual in his spare time while his main game projects were finished.

If you mean because there are 2 extra doorways that COULD eventually at some time be added on to. If this is what you are taking as “empty promises” I guess you and I have two very different views as to what “empty promises” are.

Really I just don’t get some people. SAB was given to us FREE as a fun BONUS yearly event and people still are not happy. Sure you may have played it up to your eyeballs and may want MORE MORE MORE right now. But lets be realistic here. Sometimes things just never come or they take time.

I mean sure when a new oh I don’t know say Final Fantasy game comes out and I beat it right away sure I may want the next one right now but I just know that’s not gonna happen lol…

Don’t even make me mention the FF7 remake, just knowing that it is going to be broken up into parts…..now that example right there, I COULD be justified in moaning but, no, just no and this is off topic anyway lol.

Its strange that there are buildings marked world 3 and 4 when neither are planned to be released any time soon and they’ve been there for how long? In particular to new players. I wasn’t playing GW2 until the middle of last year so this is my first SAB and I was all excited to hop into world 3 after finishing w2 but both buildings are just aesthetic. It wouldn’t take more than just a moment to remove these two buildings and save them for later when the dev releases those worlds.

Yes I do agree it can be confusing for newer players having these buildings sitting there like that. Heck even when SAB first came out (before world 2 was even released) when I saw the other 3 buildings I had expected to be able to do those as well, but alas was not the case.

So having said that and knowing what we know now, I think they really SHOULD look at removing the last 2 buildings. Especially considering they have made statements that there is a very good chance we will never see worlds 3/4.

Leaving them in might seem like a cruel joke/tease for some players. In the least confusion for newer players.

So ty for pointing this out.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I have been waiting for a “cape” glider for the longest time!

However I fear that only Charr will get that. In case you haven’t noticed some of the races have their own gliding style:

Humans/Norn and Sylvari:

Have the Neo from The Matrix style with their hands to their sides behind them.

Asura have their arms spread wide to the sides as if they are little kids running around pretending to be aeroplanes.

And finally we have Charr that have a similar flying pose as Superman. But instead of their arms being strait out in front of their faces they have their arms bent slightly at the elbows then poiting forward.

So who knows, maybe I am wrong and they will indeed give us a flying “cape” in time where we can all fly around pretending to be super heroes!

I am too play with 400-600 ping average. today.. my ping was zeroo.. lol
if theres an OCE server, I will still say in EU its my home server.
I went to NA server few weeks ago and stayed there 1 week. played with amazing 200-300 ping.. it was nice.. everything works soooo great for me (coming from 400-600ping) dodge everything perfectly works well skills works well.. when I came back to EU after lol back to good old days! yeah sometimes frustrated but its still playable. I can still raids. just sometimes… hurts a bit. I took a short video of my zero ping today lol will upload later.
btw, in the first week of wing 4 came out, when I was attempting to do cm for boss 4. a French guy told me, if you have so high ping, you shouldn’t play the game. uninstall it.
and I have only get knock back a few times with such ping. a few people with 50 ping kept getting knock back all the time more than I am. so sometimes it is annoying but.. these thing we don’t say too much. we play the game . thts it.

I had suspected that people in Australia with 400 as an average ping were on the EU servers. If this is the case for the OP and any other Australian/NZ players I would seriously suggest looking at trying out the NA servers as that may be the answer.

As you mentioned it was only a difference of about 200 ping but it made a pretty big difference for you. Which seems to be my experience as well with my ave 200-300 ping. That being most of the game you really don’t notice it and it is very playable.

You can simply stay in Queensdale until you are strong enough to do the swamp area. All you need to do is complete a few events here and there and you should be leveled up in no time to be able to complete that whole map.

Do all of those vistas and poi’s as they all give nice exp. However if you do only manage to just scrape through this map. Before moving on to the second Human map you may want to take the advice of others above me. Go to each of the other race’s starting maps and complete them too before moving on.

I did this as well as all city maps for all of my alts and from memory by the time I hit the second map for the Human area I was more than high enough to complete it with no issues.

In fact I followed that same pattern for all of the other races maps. That is complete all the starter maps. Then complete all the second Tier maps for each race, third tier etc. Doing so keeps you above level for every map and makes them a breeze to do.

Good luck!

400 seems pretty high even for those of us Down-under. I’m in NZ and my average is 200-300 and I don’t really notice it too bad unless I’m in PvP (when it’s crucial to have a good ping) or some other PvP game mode such as Dragon ball etc. You notice it then from those stupid jump pads and such. They really need to make a lot more things client side. Such as jump pads, jump mushrooms etc etc.

You might want to have a look around for a new ISP maybe, as I said 400 sounds excessive. Then again on a bad day I have hit above 1k before and yeah that is super bad. So not really sure how much different 400 is compared to my ave of 200-300.

True. I’m just wondering how practical is it, knowing how easy it is to forget passwords, especially with people who come and go in the game. Are there other games with the ability to lock access to gold that don’t have problems?

Runescape has a pin number system on their banks. I don’t recall there ever being much problems with it. Mind you it was a pain accessing the bank and having to imput the number every time. There was an option to turn it off which I suppose most people did which obviously made the whole system pointless for those players.

For me the vines were invisible! I just jump up on “nothing” and easily got the sliver. There was a small base section on that side to show you were to start.

thx for the help! Hope this helps!

When I did this they were invisible for me too. I know the cause, I was using my old computer which was a little outdated and as such I always had the settings to “best performance”. That is the cause for those vines being invisible – outdated computer/hardware or playing in best performance mode.

On my new computer even if I play in best performance I would see the vines. In fact I am seeing a lot of things for the first time in the game now. I am also hearing a lot more too as I had issues there on my old computer as well.

There is one downside tho, I am getting the game die on me a lot more than my old computer did. Far too much! I suspect there is a memory leak someone and I also suspect its Windows 8 related. My old computer had Windows 7 and I pretty much NEVER got any kind of DC there after I fixed my ram issue.

Special Access Pass: why I've not bought one

I actually left out mystic forge and laurel vendor – forge, because you can still get a portable one for ~63g (though mystic forge conduits are getting rarer and rarer, only about 100 left of the cheaper on TP, and 30 of the more expensive one), which I did many years ago), and laurel because I just don’t think it’s used frequently, since you can only gain laurels from login rewards (and perhaps some AP tiers?). TBH the laurel vendor I use most these days is the one in fractals, which I can’t get to from these passes.

I have to agree that making it instanced so that you can enter/exit it from anywhere would greatly increase the convenience, that’s part of the reason I prefer using my guild hall for most of these services – because I can do just that.

Come to think, I didn’t look around for one – I assume there’s a repair anvil somewhere?

Yes there is a guy you talk to as soon as you spawn in who will repair your gear for free. Wait or did you mean the guild Hall? If so then yes again, and again it’s pretty much where you spawn in but for the hall it is an anvil. You may have to unlock it tho via upgrades.

Yeah it should do they bring it back now and then quiet often.

There is one thing the Royal Pass gives you access to that you didn’t mention – Mystic Forge. This can at least save you a trip to LA for that purpose if you ever need to use it.

I pretty much only got the Royal Pass when I did way back when simply for the free/fast teleport back to DR which I consider my main town. I always log in and out there and do all my banking/selling there. The fast/free travel is worth the cost imo for that convenience. The crafting stations and everything else I see simply as a nice bonus on top.

I say remove the daily events in starter zones – not because of this issue but because there is no Map Bonus rewards! Win/win for everyone.

But seriously. There is no competing here for exp. If you are trying to level up how other games do it (killing mobs) you are doing it wrong. Complete the hearts/map/events all which can be done with the HELP of other players. That is how you level up in this game.

I’ve been keeping an eye on this post, and I’ve seen several comments asking for the removal of the penalty box. Unfortunately, that mechanic is intricately involved in the design of the entire instance and removing it is simply not feasible.

That’s unfortunate, Sean. Because, with the penalty box, the mission is simply not worth the time spent playing. I recommend abandoning your other fixes, because they won’t help significantly in comparison to leaving the penalty box.

But, perhaps you could explain WHY there’s a penalty box? I’ve not seen a single valid reason suggested for its existence, and it’s near-universally despised. But, there MUST be a reason for ANet to have spent the amount of time needed to construct it.

My guess is to put more importance into being successful in the fight. I mean for most of the game most players can goof off and still pull through with what they are doing. They just don’t care how well they do because they don’t have to. There is little penalty for failing.

Here if you goof off you are going to be punished by being forced to do EVERYTHING over. This makes players play at their best or try harder/better. I don’t necessarily see it as a bad thing in general. But when you have parts such as this instance does as the falling out of the sky so easily or not even getting into the air in the first place! Then yes it’s a bad, bad, bad mechanic.

I just completed this again for about the 10th time I think and hit 2 of the nasty bugs. One I have seen before which is VERY annoying and the other I guess is minor.

The first one is the “Annoying Eir” one. That is if you deplete her HP to zero weather it be by accident or on purpose while her pet is still alive you will NOT be able to close the rift. What happens is she will constantly spam her attack where the circles chase you around making it impossible to close the rift. This seriously needs fixing.

The second was with the Canach fight. You get to the part where he says to take the shield yet it does NOTHING. It reflects nothing back and does no damage. So you just drop it and hit the dude as per usual to finish the fight. Heck even the tooltip for the shield skill is simply “…” which seems like another bug in itself.

Apart from these bugs I agree with needing “save points” or something after each part of the fight where you kill off one of the summoned chars. It’s no fun killing them all and then falling out of the sky in the second take to the air part and not being able to recover and get yourself back up. Which of course results in having to do EVERY single one of those fights again.

I just did this as a zerk ele and let me tell you even in zerk mode the HP of these summons as well as Mordy himself seems far too much. Especially considering my low HP pool. However surviving the fights is not that hard but once you hit the air look out. With that low HP pool if you go down there is a good chance that’s it….repeat city for maybe another hour or 2.

I fell out of the sky twice and had to repeat everything. And even on my third attempt I fell again but luckily (and maybe due to a bug but a good one) I managed to pick myself up and get back into the air long enough for the next phase to continue and res myself. What happened was I used my skill 2 downed skill and managed to take to the air in that form (being I passed over the updraft). I managed to do this 3 times, the next phase started which gave me a chance to res and continue/finish the fight.

Tone down the HP pools while you are at it. As I said in zerk form the pools are too high. Which reminds me of the pain of when I ran 7 of my alts through way back when who were all in PVT gear. Let me tell you, it can easily add an extra 30 mins to an hour going in with any kind of survival/toughness gear due to their HP pools…no fun at all! And lets no forget that HOT was touted as being the killer of the zerk meta. How so when things take FAR, FAR, FAR too long to kill in any other gear?

Just a tip if you are worried about details and such, something that might be helpful. Personally I use a prepaid credit card for online purchases. That is it is a credit card (Mastercard, Visa etc) like the standard ones but you only have credit on it when you put it on it. So I make sure to only have cash on it when I want to purchase something. If there is no cash on it, any purchase attempt will be shot down and you are not out of pocket due to hackers or what-not.

I am not sure if your banks offer similar options but it is def worth looking into. Things like this can give you an extra layer of protection and stop things like what the OP experienced from happening.

Yes Anet were awesome enough to refund what was spent. But there are a lot of other companies out there that are not so awesome or who wouldn’t refund. So again having something like this can be helpful.

Take it from someone who has done the world complete 9 times now – even doing this is not enough to fully explore the world. I know that should not even be said but there you have it lol. Even if you include doing all JPs and mini dungeons alongside world complete, there are still many, many, many things to find.

In fact I at one point was on a journey to do exactly that. This was before the champion boxes and trains came. Basically what I was doing was going back to every map and FULLY exploring every nook and cranny. I noted down the locations of all champions and hidden chests and even noted which champs I could solo. Needless to say that when the champion loot boxes finally came I had a slight edge here for some of the out of the way champs that no one bothered with. However the trains soon killed my fun of soloing a lot of them. And now of course the trains are gone and some of these champs are now only vets.

Alas I have gone off topic. So yes I was going back and rediscovering all the maps just because I am a true explorer. Sadly something stopped me from doing this. I don’t know what. Maybe it was that HOT came in or my love for other games (Civ5 I am looking at you) that drew me away for a bit when I got burn out. I know not what but I still do have a fair few maps to continue my FULL discovery of and noting champs etc lol. I had planned to go even further by noting all the events (yes I know I can cheat and look at the Wiki and I probably will) and also wanting to do them all at least once. Call me crazy but that’s me.

So yes OP, there is TONS to discover and it does make the world seem more alive and immersive. So all I can say is keep it up, even if you do have limited play time, do that which is the most fun for you!

Gw2's Combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I think the big thing of taunt is that it is another good skill used to break bars or interrupt a skill. So it is not entirely useless. Yes it can obviously pull a mob to attack you or your pet for a split second or 2. However I don’t think the point of that skill was to bring in the hard Trinity.

As others have said that would make the game far less than what it is now for them. The combat system can indeed seem chaotic, very chaotic at times especially in WvW/PvP and big group events. But I think this is more the effects going off everywhere and lets not forget to mention all the Clones/Pets/Minions/Thief Elite summons etc etc. Maybe if some of THAT was scaled back the combat would not seem so chaotic.

There is structure atm but that mainly is only seen when the break bar is there on a Boss or tough enemy. And as such the structure is that everyone has to work together to break that bar and then burn as much damage as possible. It’s not the greatest but it is a start.

What we need is more things like this where players have to work together to take down an enemy. What they could do to add to this (going to plug a suggestion here now devs so pay attention! :P) is bring in enemies or bosses that need to be killed in certain ways (outside of raids/dungeons) that does not include the current break bar. Example it could be that regular damage is so low it is pointless to do it, however if you manage to pull off a combo on the beast – BAM damage will start to make an impact. Do enough combos during the fight and he will be taken down. It’s just things like this they need to add more of. But please, no more environment/outside things to pick up and use, or lever to pull here, or xxx to do at yyy. I find those boring and takes away from our actual chars doing things and using their skills. Use what we have but in NEW ways!

I do get what you are saying OP about some skills tho. For example blocking (with a shield in most cases) you would think is something you should be able to do whenever you like or for how long you like. We can auto attack non stop so why not blocking!? And of course the answer is because all of our other skills (and thus the skills of your enemy in any sort of pvp mode) have cooldowns for “balance” and so of course blocking needs 1 as well.

Sure they could add a system on top where we do have a few extra actions available non stop such as blocking or maybe say a control skill. Perhaps a dedicated skill slot which has a few options such as block/pull/taunt that has NO cooldowns. Something like this could add a bit more spice to the game but they would have to take a lot of things into account and adjust things for it. Example – apply the same skill slot to most mobs so they can become a challenge again. But then the game has gone down the path of being more of an “action” “real time” game than the “turn based/semi action” hybrid that we have right now.

Phew I have said a lot and need to stop lol.

I had a funny feeling this was one of the ways they were selling their gold to players. However whenever I have mentioned it on these forums I was laughed at or ridiculed.

Thanks for the info and heads up. I am sure Anet has thought of this in the past and are watching the TP closely but tbh it is probably a big job and some of the items will slip through now and then.

It will be interesting tho if Anet does comment on this and/or if they post some of the crazy items and what their prices were.

Bag of Salt for 1 million gold anyone lol?

It’s an interesting theory, the problem is that it needs items that are few in number to work. The buyer can’t select the price he wants to buy for unless its the lowest price or if he’s willing to buy all the lower priced items to get the high priced item. So if someone sells “packet of salt” for 1 million gold the buyer has to buy the tens of thousands of packets of salt that are less than 1 million gold first. That gets expensive. The other problem is undercutting. Put up item X for 1 million gold and if someone else decides to put up another item X for 9999,999 gold, the buyer has to buy the 999,999 gold item first to buy the 1 million gold item.

Oh I didn’t know that. In another game I played they had a similar TP system but you could choose to pay whatever you liked for any item. You just type in the price. It became a problem there too so what they actually did was add specific values to each and every item to make sure this could not happen.

Yes it does take away some of the players determining the value of items but they did go up and down still somewhat, just not at drastic rates or over night as such as there were several fail safes put in.

As for myself I’m super lazy when it comes to the TP I just sell everything at the sell now value and buy what is the lowest price. I wont wait around trying to get more for my items by listing them or trying to get a cheaper item by listing an offer and hoping someone comes in and undercuts. So I guess I have not noticed this which you have mentioned.

Totally have the fairy wand on my meaner also hahaha! I went along with the whole flashy purple and brightness theme for my meaner as well.

Odd enough, I actually want it for my thief. I recently made The Bifrost and I play staff daredevil most lately. I’ve got lighter armour to match with Celestial and electro pink dyes. It matches the Wings of Love glider well and would like to use it as a back item, too!

There’s also an Asuran pink Greatsword skin that I use which actually leaves behind pink footprints (well more like circles I think) which totally suits a Mes. You may want to look into it. A couple of times people have asked me what it was thinking it might have been a legendary maybe because of the footprints lol. A cheap Leg for all the Mesmers out there!

no one gets op post and keeps on with advice about getting other people to help . when op is a single player and likes to play by self . and does not even get op tries to avoid meta events fully . #smh

I am pretty much a single player too and have completed these maps on 9 chars as well as having done all of their stories. These maps can pretty much be soloed with the right builds, practice, patience and learning of them. Along side player skill and class knowledge of course.

Only the HP’s need other player’s but apart from that it is pretty much solo-able. Giving advice as we have could actually inform the OP that he CAN do what he wants to but it may just take a little more effort than he originally thought.

We are trying to help where we can. What would you prefer we do? Tell him to get lost or demand anet changes these maps to be totally 100% solo-able? Sure we could go with option A but you know what? That’s not how a lot of this community likes to actually interact with others. Option B? Yeah, not going to happen and tbh really shouldn’t even be an option.

So thank you for your constructive post, oh wait, was it? Ummm oopsy, my bad, thanks for your observation then I guess.

That’s cool to hear that I’m not alone in wanting the backpack also. I haven’t heard anything about plans to make it into a back item at release or recently. My best assumption was that it would have to be at least partially remade because of the sound and heart effects that come off of it but… wouldn’t it just be possible to use the Wings of Love skin over the same item as the hawk, macaw or golden wings?

I wouldn’t be too surprised to see it release as a back item maybe next valentines day. That seems a long time to wait for it but I guess there isn’t much point in releasing anything to do with the Wings of Love item outside of Valentines.

Oh there is a point outside of V day. Mesmers, they are known for their pink/purple theme and so too the lovey dovey-ness (a word lol?) Well mine is at leaset anyway. Heck mine even runs around with the fairy wand lol, just because – Mesmer.

It might also help to try some different builds or stats too. Some classes do better on these maps in zerk gear while others do a lot better in PVT or other survival gear.

Tbh I think these maps were designed more for groups or more tanky builds because of all the criticism the core maps got. I am not saying that zerk or other power builds don’t work because they do. But it may pay to try a few different things out to see what works for you better or how to handle specific enemies/mechanics of these maps.

What class do you main and what is your current build? Give us some idea and we may be able to offer some alternatives. Also if you are not used to using food or other consumables they too could be another option for a slight edge. It’s all these little things that add up which can make a big difference.

Edit: oh and break bars – it is VERY important to have skills that can break the enemies bars. Again knowing what class and skills you are using is crucial for this.
