Spam Chat Problems....

If people block all non-friends from whispering them, how am I supposed to compliment their fashion, skill in PvP, or answer questions they’re asking?

Compliment their fashion – I guess they must be in the same area as you for you to see them – use say. If they have moved on send them mail.

Skill in PvP – See Above.

Answer questions – If they are asking in map chat, do the same. If in your local area ditto. If you need to send them something you want private or not for other peoples ears – Mail.

Spam Chat Problems....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

There are active internal discussions pertain to issues that could impact RMT spam. We are always attempting to make the experience for our players better. Suggestions like a client side chat filter or a friend only whisper option only tackle the surface of the problem as players would have to enable those options. By doing so, they would become less social with the rest of the community and that’s not what GW2 is about. I understand that may be what some want, but I’d rather spend developer time fixing the core issues than adding surface filters.

I have to disagree with what I have put in bold here.

I have seen this system in place in another MMO that I used to play and it worked perfectly fine. That game has been going for 15 years now and the same system is still in place I believe. In that game people were ALWAYS talking and being social.

Now don’t get me wrong I am not a snob and do not just want to play solo and be unsociable. In fact in this other game I DID have the filter set to friends only but that did not make me any less social. In that game there was no “map chat” but people spoke a lot more through the “say” channel and there was always a lot of talk and social situations going on. I guess that was helped a lot by the fact that there were more gathering places in that game or hubs such as banks etc.

But still, in my time in that game on and off for 15 years I was probably one of the more social people and probably had added hundreds of players to my friends list during that time and got to know a lot of them personally. In fact one such good friend from that game plays here in GW2 with me now.

Add to this the design of GW2 which is a LOT more social friendly than that other game (shared loot/kills, no competing for resources/kills, reviving each other etc) and you really can’t lose that social aspect of the game. In fact if such a filter was in place some of us would be spending less time blocking/reporting all the time. Which would stop us being interrupted from our conversations with friends, guild members and random people in map chat or say channel that it could actualy help us to stay more social. Crazy idea but it just might work!

Now to reply to a question that Gaile had – how do you add friends to your friends list if you have the chat filter on? That’s simple, you chat with people in map chat or local channels when helping each other and such. Once you find such people that you think are helpful enough you or they can then ask to add to friends. In fact that’s pretty much how it already works for people who I help and vice versa anyway so not much difference there. And again – this is how that worked in this other game – people ask each other to add to friend’s lists.

Edit – Also I just remembered we have in game mail in this game. This is something that other game does not have. So if we chose to turn our whispers to say “friends Only” this may not stop people from sending us mail if they really do have to contact us. But then I guess you could say, “people will just mail you their spam instead”. I guess so but at least that is not as blatant and in your face as a whisper. We would at least have some control over it and deal with that when we wish to. There could always be a second option to filter mails as well tho too of course.

Risk and Reward?

Rewarding gameplay does not always have to have cool shiny rewards to them. What about play modes within the game that are actually just fun to play? You know 2 such modes do exist already for some people. PvP and WvW.

spvp rewards had to be completely overhauled and a shiny added these seasonal nonsense just to retain a slight interest in the mode. The high majority of the time matches end up as having to carry the other teammates which is very muuuuccch the complete opposite of fun.

They attempted to do the same for wvw but more people ended up leaving and so they stopped the seasons altogether. It is but a shadow of what it once was.

I never said the current season/system was perfect. Indeed at this point for PvP it is horrid. My main point was the modes are usually good and rewards in themselves just for playing (when they are working great before anet tries to push them too hard on to EVERYONE by adding shiny shinies that can only be obtained there).

What about the radiant set? You need to amass a big number of achievement points to get that set. I think it looks great, well what I have of it so far at least anyway (helm, shoulders, gloves and legs). Also only on heavy class that is, don’t care too much for it on light/medium.

So that is one example right there which is not a pure gold grind. Also from the sounds of things new weapon skins are coming with the next map which will be from pure drops, not gemstore. If this pays off for them this could easily be added for armours later on.

So what you are asking for Anet are aware of and I think they are starting to do. Now the question is, will it only be from “RNG” drops only (Invisible Shoes as an example and incoming map skins) or will they also extend this to other content that may be challenging such as raids is?

Oh and I would also like to respond to:

“but once you’ve exhausted every other possible method of playing the game, all that is left is a meta filled gold grind”

Rewarding gameplay does not always have to have cool shiny rewards to them. What about play modes within the game that are actually just fun to play? You know 2 such modes do exist already for some people. PvP and WvW.

Yes there are rewards for playing those modes but I think the vast number of people play them like I do – more for the fun. I mean after all look at FPS games, people play them for the pure fun of it. It’s only really recently they have been trying to add RPG elements to it by adding rewards and level ups.

Guild Arena: expectations and reality

Even if you got what you are asking for I think it could still not truly represent what your experience in PvP would be. Well not unless of course Anet addressed those few issues and gave options to be able to. These problems are:

1 – I’m sure there is a difference with the stat system of armours. I think in PvP there are no stats on armour right? All stats come from the amulet?

2 – Our pve stats are changing all the time due to the WvW system and bonus they give us. Even if you don’t play WvW or are not doing it your PvE stats are always changed by a small amount due to how well your world is doing.

3 – Any and all buffs/boons from food/other consumables/guild hall bonuses etc would have to be removed.

I am sure there are other things I am over looking or have not included. But even so, these 3 things above might not sound like much but I am sure it would be a bit of work for Anet.

I just wish there were more testing options in the PvP lobby tbh. I mean in GW1 there were a lot more options and it did not only help for PvP but also for PvE. Some simple ideas could be:

1 – A golem with a break bar so we could test which skills are the best for breaking bars.
2 – Golems that pulse conds on you so we can test removal options.
3 – Golems that attack you for small damage so we can see the effects of healing on ourselves from not only our heal skills but also passives such as regens from traits.
4 – Golems that stand in place and will range you once you attack them.

5 – A training room where you could party with friends/guildies and practice fights against ea other. I know there is that custom arena thing. But lets be honest, something like this should be free of charge especially with the state of PvP right now and if they want to keep attracting people to try the game mode.

A few things like this would be great!

Human male voice ruins immersion

I can understand what you are saying that the voice does not suit your char’s theme. However I have to say that the Human Male voice seems about the best of them to me. I am doing the LS3 story atm on all of my alts and have done Human, Norn, Sylvari and Charr so far (only Aura left). Out of all of those races the Human’s voice to me seems to have the most character. Sylvari comes in second.

I don’t know what it is but I just think that the voice actor puts a bit more effort into it. There is one part in the story where Rytlock says something and the human char responds totally different than the other races do. It’s just a subtle thing in the voice but the whole response seems totally different to the other races and makes the situation feel more real.

Having said all that I did make an African American char and you are right OP, the human male voice certainly does not fit there lol.

but technically Elonians (the only people with darker skin in tyria) aren’t really in this part of the world THEREFORE ITS YOUR FAULT!

Oh it’s my fault ANet gave us options for darker skin, okay that’s MY fault, sure….

Also how do you know exactly how Elonains would sound? Hmmm interesting……

I don’t recall if Koss ever had a voice acted out maybe I should go back and see sometime….

Well guys,

I only found out about the Treasure Mushroom and this special drop about a week or so ago when I first found this thread. Up until that point I thought he was only there for that achievement.

So since then I have been killing him on and off now and then as I have been doing map completes on my alts in AB. I have not been “hardcore farming” him as I guess a hardcore farmer would but I have been killing him perhaps for a few hours here and there at a time.

No drop yet myself but my friend DID get the drop yesterday and she has been doing the same amount of killing him as I have. Okay maybe she has a little bit more, maybe an extra hour or 2 than myself on and off here and there. But she too only found out about him and his drop after I told her from learning of it.

So I guess this posting is to just say the drop is real, it can happen and it’s from a pure drop and not the daily bonus reward. So I guess if you still want that skin, don’t give up, keep trying there is a chance. Maybe just kill him once a day per map at least for that chance still and the bonus. Lastly my friend had about 400 Magic Find if that helps any.

So good luck and happy farming guys!

Edit:

Oh and 1 last piece of info – she got the drop off him in DS after the Meta was completed. So perhaps that may have an increased drop chance, maybe not but it is worth mentioning I think.

The funny thing is you are ALREADY “experiencing the end game content”. I see this all the time in these kinds of games. People always asking or saying things like:

“how do I make gold fast?”
“what’s the best/fastest way to make gold”
“that game content is pointless because it’s not the best method to acquire gold/xx item”.

Tbh I think there is an unhealthy mentality out there for a lot of players. I am not saying any of you that have posted here but I have seen it a lot in my time in online gaming and not only in this game. That unhealthy mentality is “got to keep up with the jones” or “I must get this fast or have it yesterday”.

I have had many many people on my friends list in another game I played on and off for 10+ years who had this mentality and for the most of them they never did get to really enjoy the game for very long.

Meanwhile I just did what was fun for me and funnily enough the gold/wealth just came with it. You see if the gold is not your focus it will build up without you even noticing it. Yet if your gold is the focus, even when/if you are doing the best methods to acquire that gold whatever you are doing will seem like a chore and you will feel that you are getting nowhere or too slowly simply because you are not enjoying that content any longer.

I am not here trying to preach to others how they should play the game. But I am saying a little of what I have seen a lot in my time in mmos.

Having said that, lower maps DO have worthwhile reasons to go back to them, some are:

1 – For fun or sense of discovery all over again.
2 – Map Bonus items you or others may need for crafting.
3 – Collections as other people have said already.
4 – Other achievements such as JPs, Kill xx monsters xx amount of times etc.

Maybe just take a break from focusing on making that gold for a wee bit and just have fun again? Who knows you may not notice it and that gold may just jump up a bit without you even realising it or worrying about it.

Anxiety from Jumping puzzeles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

tbh Fade To black it’s every single jumping puzzle just that’s the one that has my anxiety WAY up there to almost cause a panic attack.

I will give you a few more tips if it truly is every JP that gives you these issues:

1 – Get comfortable with jumping. A good way to do this is to do what I crazily do sometimes when bored or tired for some silly reason. That is jump everywhere! Don’t walk or run, just jump, I am serious lol. In no time you will have mastered exactly how jumping works and be so in synch to how your char moves when jumping.

Use the environment to test yourself while doing this. See a fence with a gate open? Try jumping from one side to the other. There are lots of things in the world you can try like this to sort of make your own mini JP’s and practice your skills.

2 – Change your “a” and “d” keys to strafing and not turning, those functions are redundant in these games and only work against you. Next you want to master the art of “jumping sideways”, that is strafe jumping. In many JP’s it is easier to get up to the next spot by jumping sideways than it is jumping forward while moving. This is especially true for some of the more chunkier classes such as Norn and Charr. Also not to forget to mention how annoying the camera can be at times even when you have all the best camera settings chosen.

3 – If your char has any speed buffing traits or skills (usually signets) equipped you may not want to use them. Likewise with and speed increasing skills. Temporarily disable them until you have mastered jumping as you can then train yourself how to master jumping with speed buffs. I have been here since the beginning of this game and do have all JPs done except for the mad kings clocktower. However even with all that experience with jumping, speed buffs can still catch me out at times if I have not done a JP in a while. A good example was yesterday as I had to complete the Iron Pig Mine JP for an item for a collection. Had not done that JP in a while and had a few mishaps. I remembered to disable my speed signet and bang, instance fix, I easily completed the JP.

4 – If you have issues of accidently dodging at times you may also want to temp disabling double tapping to dodge while doing JPs. In my early days here I used to do that as I guess the anxiety did hit me a little then and I would hit dodge by accident a lot. I don’t have that issue anymore as I now have my dodge set to mouse wheel click and that is a lot harder to accidently set off lol.

Again I wish you luck!

I don’t really get the anxiety or depression that you are describing but that particular JP you mention did have it’s moments and problems.

All I can really suggest to do is what I did. Jump on my Mesmer and place portals where I usually had trouble. Doing this gives you another shot at that particular spot if you manage to land somewhere safe enough to place another portal to go back to your last spot.

If you have a Mes alt I would def suggest giving that a shot!.

Good luck.

Why do you play GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

TBH I have played other MMOs before and got sick of the grind. I tried out GW1 about 7 years ago as a break from one of those grinders. Whilst it didn’t have enough type of content I would like (too much combat not enough other) it still impressed me enough to look forward to GW2.

I waited a long time as many others did I am sure lol. I had 2 games in mind, GW2 or FF14. I was going to try them both and decide whch would be for me. However I must say I was biased towards GW2 because of the no subs and how great gw1 was.

Anywho FF14 came out first and I played it. It was ok but the same old problems were there – grind. Not only that but the world seemed boring, in fact the map had many areas that were all cut and pasted! Looking at the minimap you could see this. I was in a guild there but the game just lacked a spark. Sure it was cool you could use one char and basically play all the classes on that 1 char but that grind was still there. My free period ran out (1 month) and I gave up on it, there were just too many flaws/not enough fun. It wasn’t only myself with these concerns either as obviously they had to rerelease to address the situation.

GW2 finally released and here I am. So why do I play? Fun combat system, pretty much no grind, well no forced grind at least anyway let’s put it that way. Yes the game still lacks the “other” types of content that I like to have in MMOs but that’s ok. I can always play other games alongside this and that’s fine.

EDIT – oh and Angryjoe’s review on youtube should be enough really to answer the OP’s question for anyone here I should imagine. When I saw that (first time I ever heard of him or saw any of his reviews) I thought this looks awesome. Even when I go back and watch it now and again it all still rings true and is a great reminder why I play this instead of those other games.

Btw anet, you guys should gift Joe something or something, I don’t know lol. But I am sure his review got a LOT of people into this game!

Sug - Combat Outfits instead of New Races!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

You dont even need new gui stuff, just an outfit that change your character. We already got that partially with the unguligrade hooves or the blue smurf outfit for example.

This however require a ton of new animations I doubt skritt has anywhere near all class animations. Anet cant even give us race change (which require no new animations and already exist by proxy, like when you turn into Charr or Sylvari temporarily) so this should be entirely out of the question.

They would not need to give Skritt “all class animations”. Like I said, each outfit would come with it’s own combat skills so all they would need to do is create 5 animations for those skills and any if they did utilities and elites as well.

They already have Skritt combat animations, as Skritt do fight with and against us during many events.

Thanks for your input.

Sug - Combat Outfits instead of New Races!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Okay so the debate over the past 4 years whether Anet will/can introduce new playable races has been ongoing and yet as far as I know anet has never commented on the subject officially.

Some people want them and don’t care if Anet spends a lot of their manpower/resources to make it happen. I am sort of in this camp myself (bring on the Skritt I say!). Others don’t want anet to spend that manpower/resources as it will take it away from future expansions (unless of course they are working on it already as part of the expansion) and living story/other content. I too can understand this side of the argument, yet I still want new playable races lol.

So with all that being said on to my suggestion which could possibly address this. Basically it goes like this:

We get a new slot on our Hero screen similar to the “outfit” slot yet it does not effect the outfit or outfit slot in anyway except over-riding it if we have this new slot filled. In this new slot we would place the new “Race Combat Outfit/Item” (or whatever you want to call it). If we have this box filled with an item and checked then the outfit box will be unchecked and not apply that outfit.

What this item/feature would/could offer:

A new skin for your whole body, race, clothes and weapon. This skin works in combat and works similar to the outfit item as in it will not be unequipped when in combat or changing maps.

While transformed into this new playable race/skin extra features would/could be:

1 – Options to dye the outfit clothing with possibly skin, hair and anything other that might be unique to the race/clothing.

2 – Much like some of the current outfits (think executioner) these items will bring a new weapon as part of the item and as such will have unique combat skills for that weapon/outfit.

3 – Added on to the above we could also get a specific heal, utility and elite skills as part of the item. There could also be F skills added if needed.

4 – Your char would speak in a new voice during combat depending on what skills are used and what is happening. However this could be very limited and feature far less than what our normal chars currently do. I would also expect that these tonics may not be used in any story cut scenes, but that would be up to anet as they know more than I as to what can or can’t be done.

I think that is pretty much it. This may still sound like a lot of work and perhaps too much manpower/resources and to some not worth the effort. However I would disagree. It would also depend on how much anet would want to put into this if they did decide to as well of course as to what they would charge us for it.

Having said that it would be less work than a totally new playable race. As they would not have to add/change maps for starting areas. They would not have to invent new Personal Stories. They would not have to worry about fixing all of the existing armours to work with the races as they would come with their own already!

These new items could bring in a lot of revenue for Anet and replace the already expanding new outfits. They could in theory also add a whole lot of new playable races that we could never have even dreamed of! Centaur, Jotun, Grawl anyone!? Heck even animals, don’t be a naysayer here, we already know they can do this – look at some of the hearts that are already in the game as well as the Norn transform elites. Think back to the Norn starting area as well as others for example.

Oh and I also expect that these items would not be usable in PvP, however WvW could be possible, but again – up to anet.

Okay said my piece, comments, yay’s, nay’s or other ideas to add on to this that I have not thought of already?

I have a tip that worked for me somewhat:

1 – Use the item while standing still.
2 – Choose which one you will go for, the best option is usually any Green if none a Blue.

3 – If Green or Blue simply walk in that direction until you find it. Keep your eyes on the ground in front of you not the area around you.

4 – If Red, face the direction of the one you want to find. Open your map and look in that direction. Use any WP in that direction. NOTE: having the minimap stay still in the settings will probably help with this step – that is, never have the minimap rotate as you turn your char.

5 – Once teleported use the device again and hopefully it will now be Green or Blue. If so you should know what to do by now.

6 – If it is still red, face the direction again and use the map/wp teleport again until Green or Blue. If you find yourself jumping between only 2 WP’s you will need to walk in the direction until it changes to Blue or Green.

Hope that helps!

It’s the same for any Engi Kit that is equipped. It seems they simply do not save the information for our chars for this map once entering gliding and then exiting like they do for any other map in HOT or Core Tyria.

Sorry to be a little lost about this, but to get the back piece that you wanted, you would have had to have logged out with your Sylvari prior to getting it? Or just be sure to have the correct toon when you choose it? Lol sry for being a bit dense

No it’s not that bad. You get a list which you can choose from and as such you can pick any pack, it does not have to match your race. I am assuming the op chose whichever he saw first and expected to be able to get the rest so the first pick didn’t mean too much. I did the same and simply chose the first on the list.

For the new green commander tag! So, thank you!

Yes I know it is a small thing, but it is something I have been wanting/and asking for, for some time now. Also it’s the little things that make all the difference especially when your player base has been asking for them and they are then implemented. It shows you are listening and making notes.

So, anyone else have anything they forgot to say TY for? Post em here, let’s not forget all the small QOL things that are added!

If you ask me the toughness thing is a lie! I am a thief and anything I do (besides raids) all the mobs always focus me -.- it’s really annoying

You didn’t mention what your build and stats are. You also don’t give us any idea if you know if anyone else in the paty/group has toughness either. Lets face it, if everyone goes in in zerk gear someone still has to have the highest toughness out of the group and thus then be regarded as the tank/target.

Of course having said that if everyone is in zerk or similar stats, the target will change depending on if you are moving in within melee/missile range and pulling back to disengage for a bit of healing etc. There is more to it besides “highest toughness” also.

All are pretty good but if you want a easy class just to get the basics of the game or for early exploring you really can’t go wrong with ranger.

Having said that tho I always suggest people to create a class and go straight into the pvp lobby and test out all the weps/skills/traits there. It’s a great place to check this stuff out as you are level 80 and have everything unlocked (skills/traits). You can also beat up the golems and npcs to see which class/build suits you.

Welcome to the game and good luck!

Just go and do some PvP or WvW for the last daily requirement. It will save you a lot of frustration and a headache in the long run.

Are you camping the mobs in the right place … Moa’s are not exactly hard to find or in short supply.

Yes. I’m just saying that when the Moa comes on ROTATION I have either not been online or the middle of something else. The point is, it’s an unnecessary drawn out timer rotation for no other reason than to flesh out a very minor event..cos “content”

World bosses are on rotation too. So are most meta events. You can’t plan when a temple in Orr is open. Is that better?

The difference here tho is we do not know how long these events will be in the game. Everything else you have offered up here are going to be there pretty much permanently.

While 3 hours is not exactly the longest time to wait it can still pose some problems to some people obviously. I don’t know why they didn’t just have them run on 2 different cycles and run them every 2 hours. At the moment if you just miss one you have to wait 2.5 hours at most if it was the moa or devourer for example. They could have instead gone:

Option 1:

Moa/Devourer – 1 hour window, Wyvern – 1 hour window – repeat.

Option 2: (runs/starts at the exact same time as option 1)

Wyvern – 1 hour window, Arctodus/Shark – 1 hour window – repeat

This way it could have given people some more versatility and options with the system and at most have you waiting only an hour or so in the worst case scenario.

Filtering out names would just be silly.

A solution has already been proposed and discussed by both players and devs. A simple solution that just might work!

That being block out all whispers from people unless they are on your friends list. This of course would be optional so people can still get whispered by random people if they feel like it. However for those of us that are spammed often because we may very well be on these people’s “lists” this would suit us as well by choosing to activate the block.

It’s such a simple system and it works in other games. The only question is why has it not been implemented yet?

True pay to win is when players who spend real cash can get things players who don’t spend cash can’t .

Being that players who DON’T spend real cash can also take advantage of the trading gold to gems/gems to gold system there is no true p2w in this game….

Game Crashes Problem after the patch

in PvP

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

What’s the top of your crash report look like? It starts with something like:
—> Crash <—
Assertion: index < m_count
File: p:\code\gw2\game\content\CnUtil.h(99)

I cannot find this file location. Where can I find the crash files to submit?
What is happening to me is in matches, the game will just freeze up. I can walk around, but all the skills go in que instead of activating and all players just keep walking in their original directions. Almost feels like someone is pulling out the ethernet cable.

Close gw2, reopen and rejoin the match. But of course all players will rally and it takes like 30 seconds.

Woops, that path isn’t the location of the crash report, that’s just what the text from a crash report looks like. When you client crashes, a window pops up where you can type in notes and send the report to ArenaNet. Under the box is a bunch of text that helps me find out which specific crash you’re having.

Sometimes however the crash does not even pop this window up and give the “send crash report option”. It has happened to me on a number of occasions since this last patch. I have not played any pvp today so the last time it happened was probably yesterday a couple of times. Note it’s not only pvp for me it can be anywhere at anytime. Map loading, trying to access the bank are 2 of the causes that I can think of off the top of my head. But it can also happen just when you are running along somewhere, for example in the middle of a pvp match or running to the next event you can see on any given map.

Note my computer is only about 5-6 months old and I am running windows 8. Before this computer I was running windows seven and hadn’t had any crashes within the last 2-3 years. The last time before that I would constantly crash but I found out that was due to bad ram which I fixed, but ignore all that lol. Point being this is either newly introduced from updates patches/or possibly windows 8 (new computer) related?

Saw it in the water in Orr yesterday. Just standing there looking at me. I’ve seen it many times now in different areas. The “scream”..I was mining bloodstone crystals and landed on the very edge of an island to get one, a large Norn did the same. We stood there for a second after mining the node and both screamed at the same time. Tiny Asura scream, large Norn scream…and then laughed at each other and flew off. So it is pretty odd, entertaining, disconcerting but most of all, fun. edit to mention the other part…I asked him…“did you scream?” he said yes, he said “did you scream?” I said yes…another person that just landed said “ice cream” after seeing our conversation, and then flew off.

That 3rd person was no doubt an anet employee on a personal account watching all the mayhem they are causing and getting a good laugh out of it!

Trust no one….

Season 4 Ranked Matchmaking Change

in PvP

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Its AVERAGE MMR of your Team AVERAGE of enemy team MMR. From a pool of 10 people taken within a certain PIP range. So yeah you can have high MMR players and low MMR players. The MM will try and create 2 teams with an even chance of winning.

Exactly! why do I have to try harder because the low mmr players don’t want to get good?

It’s almost as if ANET is attempting a mmr reset by forcing all players to win / lose at insane rates for next year.

You do realise right that if you have high MMR and are getting low MMR people put on your team the EXACT same thing is a happening on the other team. So it’s an even fight (or should be in theory). So when you come up against those low MMR people on the other team you should be blowing them out of the water. However when you face the high MMR on their team, well the better player will stand victorious it’s just a matter if it’s you or him…..

No one could or should expect to win every time, that would be saying you think you deserve easy (free) wins or are the best player out there. Which by the way, even the best players (and this even goes for real life sports people and such, chess masters etc included) still have losses or a bad day.

Not at all, you are wrong, see bold comment

Top 20% MMR got paired with Bottom 20% MMR and are going versus AVERAGE MMR players.

This means, that the other team have more chance than being average than having the same configuration than you. For population we have much more average players than terribad or decent players.

So even if you carry far 1v2 capped for your team all matches, if you got 2 super terribad players fighting off-point and dying each 20 sec (I got a lot of that yesterday)… well you lose versus AVERAGE MMR.

This Means, your MMR is dropping like candies, because the system match you with the worse of players…

This means that you will lose your best players, because they don’t want to suffer that again.

So, your average players got to play with those terribad one for the last month of the seasons… you will QQ about queue time and how bad players make those games for you… but it was for us, at the start of the season.

Unranked matches are way better than any League one for proper MMR. Terribad rarely meet good players in there. It’s AVG with GOOD, AVG with BAD.

Hmm this is interesting if true and new to me and not what I thought I read from what was posted from the Devs….

However we have 5 people on each team right so the question would be:

If the top 20% are being paired with the bottom 20% you would think 2 players on 1 team are the top 20% and the other 2 are the bottom 20%. So where does the 5th person come from? Bottom again or middle? I think that would make the difference, well in my mind anyway……

If another top 20% you should be expecting to win more often if you are the top. If another bottom then yes maybe bad for the top 20%. If middle, ideal situation? I guess only the metrics could tell us and of course only anet has access to that.

So the question is, where are we each individually? Are we in the middle, bottom or top? From what people are saying here the top and bottom 20% are screwed while the middle are better off? I also guess sometimes we may fall in all of these categories ourselves sooner or later and we may even see it happening already thus the win/loss sort of nature.

For myself I have had 41 games so far this season with 26 wins so I guess most often I have been in the middle? No idea what to make of all of this tbh. Either way I am going up slowly it seems but the fights are definitely far better for me than they were last season and I am actually getting better win streaks than loss streaks.

But still, I would prefer a system that I thought it was. Take 10 ppl from the pool and put them in a match. Take the top 2 and put one on each team and continue that until you have 2 teams made. Would that not be the fairest system? It seems no matter what they do each season they want it to favour/please a certain % of the population and then change it the next season. Sounds familiar, pretty much how the flavour/cheese of the month/season classes/builds are working too…

Edit: changed the numbers of games play/win ratio as I confirmed from logging in rather than guesstimates.

I saw one pop up in the PvP lobby, I was in an area with no one else around (on the way to the beasts to solo I think) so I am not sure anyone else saw it.

However I have a funny feeling this maybe related to Halloween. We know that anet puts things into the game well and truly in advance from when they happen so this would not surprise me. It could be during Halloween this year they may have ghosts pop out and interact with us. Just a feeling I have anyway lol…

Why I love Guild Wars

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Has anyone messed around with the custom music in GW2? For example you can make your ‘battle music’ be Metallica or whatever. I love the GW2 music so I haven’t, but I’d love to see a video of someone playing with custom music.

I used to have a track from FFX play as my combat music as it was totally my fave combat music from any game/movie/whatever. But with how they used to play the combat music too much here I disabled it after a while as I started to hate the song which was a sad thing. I have not bothered to change it back since they have tinkered with the frequency of the combat music . But I leave all music off now unless I am in HOT maps because it’s just yawn for me, either too boring or played too much.

For some of the better tracks (some of the citites) you don’t hear them too often because you never go there or spend long enough in them which is a shame. I spend most of my time in DR if I am banking or crafting since I have the royal pass and it’s the most boring music in the game, well the start of it is anyway, so dreary. If you go to LA tho – BOOM as soon as you enter you are hit with a booming triumphant sound, very similar to what I used to experience in the original release of FF14 for one of the cities which was totally awesome.

It’s just a shame we can’t custom our music options here like we can in other games without having to playing with the game files. For example in another game I used to play they had a drop down menu for all of the musical tracks and you could preview them or check them to play and even in what order. Something like that here would have me turn the music back on again and I would love it. HOT music in core tyria yes please! As well as playing the best music that I do like from core tyria and enjoying it all over again without having to put up with the other boring/dreary music in the mix.
