I’d love to have more emotes.
I hate to bring up WoW, but one of the few things I miss is it’s /joke emote. I would kill for something like that in this game.
Well, clearly the problem is that I’m doing map completion and am currently in mid-level zones. Tonight was Fields of Ruin…one yellow total. Now someone is going to say, “duh…you want lootz, you need to be champ-training and taking temples!”. I just find it odd that the one thing that ANet consistently preaches (go and explore the open world!) is the least rewarding part of the game (unless you’ve never seen these zones and that fancies you). But, I have a feeling that if I was doing the zergs, this post would have never started.
*About the TP though, I have spent based on your philosophy about it. I bought up all crafts to 400 just so that I wouldn’t have to deal with it. Now, I can sell mats in order to buy the icy runestones. But I prefer the sub model meaning that I’m ok with spending the same budget…actually $5 more per month since I’m surprised they never raised the fee. Spending $20/month on top of the box is fine, but I don’t have the income to throw this company the kind of money I’ve been spending lately. *
I’m moving on to another game….quitting, taking a break…I don’t know. I just need to find something that’s a little more rewarding. Sad to say that they best part of Fields of Ruin was selling the 40 seasoned wood logs at the end. There are plenty of other games that include rng but are a little bit more stable, scaled, predictable, and rewarding.
I’m super confused right now. What subscription model? Why are you spending any money on this game if you aren’t enjoying it the way you want to? Other than box price, there is nothing that you have to pay for here. This is beginning to sound like a trap.
Yeah, I’m at 122% myself, and I find my lucky streaks seeming to come more often and lasting longer, so I’m thinking that it definitely helps as you get it up.
Although, it’s probably not worth working towards in the long run, unless you start with a mountain of gold, power it up as high as you can, and then farm for the rest of the games life. Then maybe.
Yes, yes, and yes to the afk idea.
I’ve been thinking about that for days (2 days to be exact, ha ha)
This would be an annoying problem, and unfortunately, the only answer to your problems is going to lie with doing things about it yourself. There is absolutely no way Anet is going to do anything about the guesting system. Here are a few possible (if not annoying) solutions.
1. Wait. In 2 weeks Teq will not be very popular, people will stop guesting, plus more servers will have started completing the event, and you will have far less chance of being in overflow.
2. Get groups of people from your server who know the fight onto low population servers. Get like 10-20 people from your server who are good at organizing (and preferably not jerks) to guest onto a specific low population server and try and get them up to snuff. Every server you guys can get going on their own is one less trying to get into yours.
Like I said, these aren’t the answers you’re looking for, but they are probably some of the few workable ones you have available.
I would like to mention the other problem no-one seems to be mentioning about overflows. Part of the reason we are all having to deal with them is all of you out there who camp out on the main server for hours upon hours while the rest of us are at our jobs, school, or just playing the game as intended while you wait. I’m not criticizing here, I know if I had the time to dedicate to it, I’d probably do the same, but you are part of the problem too.
Well, It started ok early. Got whiny quickly, and that has never gone away.
About 2 months ago or so it got absolutely vile. But it seems to be sliding back to decent enough. Still too whiny for my tastes though. The community is my lest favorite thing about this game any longer.
I’m curious, is anyone going to try and say what builds are best for this situation anymore? Because most of what I read is “AH is BAD!” “No it’s NOT!!!11!!!”
We get it, you all have really strong opinions of AH. Cool.
Now, what other suggestions do you have for switching between WvW and PvE without gear or trait swapping. You probably don’t need to worry about high end dungeons, because if you’re doing those, you have a specific build in mind probably, this is more for a jack of all trades sort of thing it seems.
Though I agree some things Anet have done weren’t well done, I say to you what I used to say to the management training class I used to teach. As a manager you’re literally going to make hundreds of decisions a day. Ten percent of them will probably be wrong. No one is perfect. The trick of being a good manager is to stand by what you’ve decided and work it through so you minimize long term damage with your mistakes.
.
As a manager for a company, I have to say I love what you said right there. It’s completely true.
Bravo.
Eh…. head hurts with all this treadmill talk in multiple threads…
Honestly, it’s a slippery slope. On one side, it can be considered a textbook treadmill. On another, it’s not.
As a textbook treadmill, when the rest of Ascended gear is introduced, it will make Exotics obsolete. The stat increase will be high enough to cause a noticeable difference. Currently, it causes a minor difference. But once a full set of gear is released, it will be better than Exotics by far. The reason why this is textbook treadmill, is because of PvP. Sure, in PvE, you can do anything in Masterwork gear (except for high level Fractals). But in PvP, it is always a case of being BiS. There is no way around it. PvP is competition. Thus making it a gear treadmill.
But on the other end, it’s not really a textbook treadmill. Because of PvE like explained above. At least until Agony resistance becomes global, then it will become required to have Ascended gear. Making it a gear treadmill. Although Anet said that Agony resistance will stay in Fractals only, they have said a lot of things that they have changed their minds on. This is no different. Hate to sound like a downer, but you can’t believe anything they tell you.
So right now, as a PvP player, this is the start of a treadmill. But as a PvE player, currently, this is a very minor optional treadmill. They’ve already stated that they plan on adding a “shallow power creep” to the game. This is just the start.
I don’t disagree that it’s a slippery slope, and you’re right, they DID talk about how they are going to have a “shallow power creep”. I don’t know if that’s going to be good or bad or neutral.
But all of the gear treadmill talk at this point in it all just feels alarmist and over-exaggerated. It’s like listening to conspiracy nutballs, or watching FOX News. A complex and mostly benign issue being blown up to unrealistic proportions.
Its a textbook definition of gear treadmill.
And what is the textbook definition of a gear treadmill?
To me, a gear treadmill makes previous tiers obsolete. Ascended does not. It’s not needed, if you want the small boost, good for you, go get it. But it’s not required for anything (with the one small exception of really really high level fractals, a piece of content that give you no new experience or benefit at high levels compared to mid levels other than personal bragging rights).
So in another words its a textbook definition of gear treadmill rofl
by your skewed definiton no game ever had a gear treadmill since latest gear was only required in latest raid and you could do everything else without it.
No bro.
No, that’s not what I’m saying.
In fact, I’m saying that as far as fractals are concerned, you can play it without any AR or ascended to the point of being able to get anything you want out of it content-wise. Sure, you can use AR and ascended to get a higher little number on what level you are doing it on, but it doesn’t prevent you from seeing the content, experiencing it’s mechanics, seeing the story or what have you. Nothing is blocked by not having ascended. It is not a gear treadmill. And as I previously stated, my biggest reason for saying it’s not a gear treadmill is because it is just ONE little step. A treadmill is never ending and forces you to keep getting new tiers to be able to experience the game.
Now, if 6 months from now a new tier of equipment pops up, I’ll concede my point. But where we are now? No, not a treadmill.
Its a textbook definition of gear treadmill.

Please provide a quote that says Ascended was always intended since launch. Because here is a quote that proves you wrong.
Ascended gear was designed to sit between Exotic and Legendary items. “It was not specifically designed before launch,”
So no, it was never intended on as you so claim. It was a decision made to appease traditional MMO players that needed a treadmill.
Ok, I was a little to specific in what I said. It was my interpretation of those quotes in that article.
They state that the stat progression was planned before launch. The exact arrival of ascended may not have been, at least not in that way at that time, but the existence of something like it at some point, yes, they planned to do that.
Semantics.
Blah, blah, blah, grindy, boring, time gated, time sink.
Better?
A little, yeah. I disagree a bit with the grindy portion, but yes, crafting ascended is time gated, and a little bit of a time sink. But IMO, if you really want that tiny bit more stats that aren’t needed for anything, then putting up with the little bit of time gated-ness isn’t an issue.
I have another rant on everyone saying this game is a massive grind, but I’m really not getting into it tonight.
But most of the complaints about the ‘gear treadmill’ that I see is how ascended is terrible for the game. It’s going to ruin it. Everything is going to be the worst now. But I don’t see how it will change anything. It’s not going to unbalance anything in PvP. It’s not going to heavilly effect WvW (because the same amount of people on most servers will be at about the same point in making them, and because a zerg trumps any small stat bonus someone has). It will make it so that if you go through the effort, you can kill things a little bit more quickly in PvE, and maybe survive one more hit… maybe.
ASCENDED WEAPONS (and equipment in general) ALONE DO NOT MAKE A GEAR TREADMILL!!!
Sorry for all caps, but I’ve had it with this gear treadmill talk BS.
It is one single step higher than what they had at launch. ONE. And one that they previously stated they always intended on having. One step does not make a treadmill. The entire way the game works with it’s downscaling doesn’t even lend itself to a gear treadmill type of thing.
Now, if every 6 months they added a new tier of equipment that made the previous one basically obsolete, then yes, that’s a treadmill.
Beginning to add one step (that they intended on) about 6 months in, and then not even having the entire gear set of it available a year after launch (and let’s face it, it will probably be near the end of the year when ascended armors come out) IS NOT A TREADMILL!
Heck, ascended (neither are exotics really) isn’t even important if you can play the game decently. All it will do is make it so more people can try and stumble through places like Arah that are too daunting for mediocre players.
It’s not that big of a deal guys.
The only thing worth complaining about ascended weapons are how their coloration can give your opponents in PvP a hint on what kind of build you’re running.
I’m torn with this idea.
On one hand, I want more power, always! I want to have bigger numbers appear when I hit my enemy! I want to kill more stuff, and possibly faster!
On the other hand, gear treadmills get old after a while.
I do NOT think ascended is much of a treadmill, heck, it’s barely a step.
I just think that in order for Guild Wars to work as it has already, if there IS another tier of equipment added a year from now, there needs to be a reason for it. For example, a new dungeon with level 85 enemies where the new tier would be useful for it, and beating it rewards new titles, skins, or minis, or something like that.
I’d like to say that if a new dungeon is added, it should just be more challenging mechanically, forcing better co-operation and skill, but really, who would play that often? If people wanted that, it wouldn’t be absolute hell trying to find a group for Arah.
Cool, I thought it was something like that. Guess sleepy time it is. Thanks.
So, I love titles. We need more titles. And on that note, I think we should have a title involving the word “Kitten”. That isn’t a censored curse word, but the actual word Kitten. It could be a fun tongue in cheek thing, Like “Bad Mother Kitten” or “Kittenhead” or anything really.
Just an idea.
I was just curious, because I am really interested in how this one is going to turn out, but I also may want to sleep sometime, and I am debating whether to wait it out or sleep.
Thanks in advance.
I think people are getting a little bit of a nostalgia effect already.
Seriously, I’ve thought the community has been bad (at least the vocal portion) since about week 2.
The biggest difference that I can find is that more things are changing and being added, so there is more opportunity for people to find new things to complain about, and new ways to complain about each other.
Unfortunately, the complainers have brought out the troll in me, and I find myself making jokes in map chat to fan the flames…. Maybe I should ease up on that.
But really, ignoring map chat, and not doing TOO much on the forums is a good way to remain sane when it comes to the game.
Last note, I just want to say that this community, while pretty darn wretched at times, is equally as nasty to each other as any other game I play, so it’s all a wash to me.
Dear Arenanet,
Please please please do more “By the numbers” posts.
Seriously, I love it so hard.
Thank you.
I disagree.
Yes, it’s true I’ve had a hard time doing no LS stuff this month, this has been the most intensive and invasive living story yet, and I doubt future ones will be the same, at least not every time. Every other living story arc has given me more than enough time to do other things.
Just enjoy the ride and wait another week. I’m sure everything will go back to the way it was a month ago.
So, I highly doubt there will be any significant changes to the invasion events during this event. Also, I don’t know if I actually think there should be.
But…
You know what I think would help everyone involved and make it so the farmers and people who care about completing things come together a bit?
Just make it so that instead of each little event counts toward working at the meta-event bar, make it so that each enemy takes the bar down. That way, every kill counts, farmers can farm the crap out of things, and everyone wins.
Oh, and don’t let aetherblades or molten spawn when their bar is complete.
Just an idea.
Hello.
This isn’t a major issue, but it is possible for a searing crystal to spawn in the air above the hay pile mid-fall, causing you to die in mid-air and just float there, dead.
There is a picture of me floating, dead from it.
Thank you.
Well, I paid for the game.
I’ve bought about $60 or so in gems since release (I pre-ordered it, so it’s been pretty spaced out.
But I also bought a whole new desktop, primarily to play the game better.
I also bought a new mouse for the same reason.
Oh, and I bought a new headset to replace my old broken one to talk to people while I play.
So in a way, I’ve paid at least $800 or so to play the game, ha ha.
Hi. I’ve been playing as a Guardian pretty much the whole time I’ve been playing this game, and always with a focus on damage, only looking at other stats for survival issues.
Well, I’m ready to try something new it seems, but I could use a little advice.
I want to do something supporty, PvE and dungeons primarily, with maybe a little bit of WvW to switch things up.
I’m thinking trying to do something where I don’t touch my traits (other than to switch the major ones, but keeping the same points in each line) but having a support armor set and a damage armor set, with all accessories being celestial.
What I most want help with is what trait lines to focus on, what stats to look for on my support side armor set. I’m already figuring I’ll probably want to go GS/Staff for weapons.
I think they just need to add gates to all the cities in all of the cities, or at least a mystic forge. For the longest time, I still went to the Grove for all my needs, because it’s my favorite, but I did eventually just get tired of it.
I’m with you Kossman.
I am really, really enjoying this game. I play it more than anything else I have had in years. In a sea of games that I buy, then barely play because I get bored or am just not interested in, this game offers more for me than any other.
We all know it’s not perfect, but I don’t care. It works great for me. And I agree that the Devs seem to go out of their way to do the best they reasonably can.
And Living story is freakin’ brilliant. New content every 2 weeks, even if it’s something I just play for a bit then move on from is WAY better than nothing new for 6 months to a year at a time.
The amount of things added since release (not even a year ago, remember) is incredible.
Thanks for the game guys, and keep keeping on.
So long, and thanks for the kittens.
I understand a lot of people’s issues and nervousness about losing the MF they have on their gear, but I am also not really worried about it. (And I have a MF set myself).
The way I think about it, I’ve made a lot of money with it, more than what I put in, so even if they take it away now, no compensation, I’m at a net gain. Sure, I’ll have to change the way I do things in the future, but it doesn’t take away the gains I’ve made before now.
Also, I doubt it’s going to happen in the next month or two. So if you have the gear now, farm farm farm. And then use your proceeds to help you towards whatever it takes to get the next version of MF.
I’d love it if there was some sort of Mystic forge recipe that you could use to unlock Black Lion Chests. Maybe something like 10 chests + xMystic coins = 1 unlocked chest.
Or even something where you would need so many chests and so many broken lockpicks and then you would get one unlocked chest.
I doubt this would ever happen, but I would enjoy it.
Thanks for the update. I’m so anxious for the event to start!
I was thinking, I really like the option of using town clothes when I’m in towns, but I’m, well let’s face it, a little lazy and would like to know if there is any sort of hotkey for swapping to your town clothing set, or if there could be one in the future?
Thank you.
