Sounds interesting. Rift knows a mechanism like that with charges attached to the enemy. Another way to reward situation awareness, since it ravages those who ignore them while any1 moving out of trigger range or breaks LoS gets off lightly.
Oh, and also: shameless bump for Main Hand Pistol. Let’s charmingly nag ANet until we get an answer. ^.^
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
1. Save- & loadable trait set
2. Save- & loadable gear set
3. The mesmer’s painfully missed 1H direct damage ranged weapon. Main hand pistol, pretty please? ^^
4. No more surprisingly cooperating hostile npc factions surprisingly ****ing up a celebration surprisingly masterminded by Villain Sue of Greater Annoyance.
5. Minor GUI customization, like scaling up those ant-sized, spectacle wearer unfriendly effect indicators or getting the target display out of my ****ing sight.

Gender equality please! If you’re going to sexify the women, then do it to the men
If that ever makes it into the game I strongly recommend a No Borat option.
Btw… still don’t have my long desired [Endless Mystery Dog Tonic]. Gem or Laurel Shop. Pretty please? ^.^
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I’m a great fan of Illusion of Life, imo one of the best Mesmer spells I (mis-)use at any given opportunity. I’d like to see a trait augmenting it further, like….:
Improved Illusion of Life: Reduces the recast time to 1 minute. Targets revived by it inevitably revert to finished state after 10s.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
While I cannot acquire a taste for those ladies’ facial hair I’m still waiting for an [Endless Mystery Dog Tonic]. And other permanent Morph Tonics.
I dumped about 50€ into the BLC lottery and only got 1 weapon ticket out of that, won’t ever touch that rng disaster again. But I would buy the Permanent Morph Tonics, or maybe a special ingredient allowing me to craft them?
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
With some classes firing their spells on a boss it is very difficult to see important animations at all. Feels like fighting a light bulb.
Disabling Post Processing helps a little, though.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Thanks ANet for listening. Think I’ll buy a gem card this month. ^^
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Has been requested time and again, I still support this. I’d particularly like to move the huge, click hijacking target unit frame in the middle of my sight.
There are profound reason why cars do not have the tachometer on top of the front screen. Wouldn’t matter if we could simply move the elements., ofc. ^^
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I’d like to see the matching mini pets to the Endless Mystery Cat Tonic morphs, especially this ugly something, since it’s RL twin named Arestoteles is lounging in an armchair here.
Perhaps as two mystic forge recipes, each requiring the original tonic, one creating the adult, one the adolescent version pack?
I’d certainly invest another 100 tokens into a second endless tonic.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Or none at all… i find them quite annoying.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Stopping an ability build-up with Escape is awkward, the key is too far from WASD & multifunctional. So hitting Esc to late or accidently twice causes your toon to stop auto-running or even the main menu pop up. Exactly what you need in the middle of a fight.
Therefore a separately bindable action ‘Cancel ability build-up’ would be nice QoL improvement.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I love my little chainsaw wielding skeleton, but re-summoning it all the time is so annoying.
Yep, permanent / extended duration or change into a regular mini pet please.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
30 keys from money-bought gems, led to 4(!) scraps. And a pile of uninteresting consumables. Well, i’ll go on until i have my weapon skin to avoid losing the entire money.
But i’ve learned the lection, the hard way. Don’t gamble for virtual stuff with real money.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Oooh, and… an option to Click-trough. I’ve seen the awkwardly placed target unit frame catch ground target clicks too often.
Seriously, I’ve been b… asking for customization option more than once here, with little feedback, though. -.-
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Atm the vertical tab “My Transactions” contains four sub-windows, Items I’m Selling|Buying & Items I’ve Sold|Bought.
I’m often checking my buy orders, I’m sure, many plavers do, it takes two clicks and response times to reach it. Considering the numerous times this function is used, splitting the mentioned vertical tab into four would be quite an annoyance relieve and remove a minor GUI inconsistence. The tab bar easily offers sufficient room.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I concur, once again, as there are about a dozen threads asking for this now. ^^
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Once more, as this topic came up again + again, i support this request.
I’ve already bought a complete set á 2400 gems I paid for in real money. ANet needs to make too, after all. ^.^
Now this hinders me to switch my main, I don’t intend to buy more sets. Sorry ANet, they were expensive to buy once, but 24€ twice or thrice is disproportional. +1 for account bound.
While we’re at it… there are some nice gear skins in the shop I would buy if only they came as unlocks like the Zenit stuff. That’s a commitment.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Oh, update, re-run of the permanent tools. But sorry, I won’t buy a second set at 2400 gems. They should be account bound, period.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I’ve been asking for visible CD timers for inactive engineer kits ages ago, others for the same with elementalist stances. No reaction. Then again, once you learned to juggle with a three kit build, DS seems easy to handle.
Semi off topic, the target unit frame in top center annoys me much more, colliding with ground target spells and limiting distance sight.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
At least gem bought stuff should be always account bound. Like most of it already is.
I’m thinking about switching my main char, but the other one has 3 soul bound permanent gathering tools. Not fun….
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Play an Asura and you’ll live with the following image, top down:
- monitor border
- Huuuuuuge target unit frame
- belt of your target
Tilt the camera further and say goodbye to the ground effect indicators
Target’s ability animations? Nope, sir.
Incoming projectiles? Hidden behind the target unit frame till they hit you from above.
Seriously, at least let us move that oversized blindfold away from the worst possible spot on screen. Please. I’ll buy gems, I promise. ^^
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
One more support vote for the overdue MF semi- abolishment.
Getting (statistically) more reward for contributing less to a groups success supports an antisocial play style. I’ve seen too many situations in PUGs with members suspecting or directly accusing each other of wearing MF gear.
Thanks ANet, for listening to the majority of your customers.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
While we’re at that topic… please implement different, bindable key events for
- Stop Autorun
- Abort cast
- Close windows
- Main menu
Having all that in one hard coded key far away from Wasd is quite awkward & leads to a lot of unwanted results in the middle of a fray.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
This has been requested before and is still valid.
Also imo the build-in context sensitive color change should be deactivatable as it contributes to losing tracking of that tiny thing. ^^
I know it it meant to provide context information, but in fact it often functions as a chameleon effect. Are there any (allowed) 3rd party tools to change ingame cursors?
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
As an owner of the [Endless Mystery Cat Tonic] I second this and would like to add that in the same step the 2-ability of cat transformation needs to be change to “Climb tree”.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I second this request. I feel somewhat pinned to one character which has all three infinite gathering tools. That appears detrimental to variation. Other costly yet not character defining gimmicks seem account bound for good reasons.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
At the moment we can only abort casts with the Escape key. Avoiding a valuable ability unnecessarily going on CD due to a changed situation can alter the outcome of a fight.
However, Escape is not a user friendly choice, it is positioned awkwardly, stops auto-running and opens a menu. Which is not what you want to see accidently happen in the middle of a fight.
I suggest adding a bindable action ‘Abort cast’ to the keyboard preferences.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Got an update for you guys!
snip
On top of all this is still player preference. Not everyone wants a single right-click to perform default actions. This is why we’re adding a toggle for it in the next patch.
Whooohoo. finally some feedback. Evan, you are this day’s hero. Gonna go and buy some gems now, and no, I’m not kidding. ^.^
Any chance you’ll look into sticky targeting, no de-targeting on non-target clicks, while you’re at it? I’d buy another gem package, seriously.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
This appears as such a easy feature to add…
- Option Sticky Targeting, no target drop on clicks onto the botany
- Option Targeting with: left/right mouse button
Hey ANet, I hereby promise I’ll buy a ton of gems once it’s in the game! ^.^ (also shamelessly pushing the thread up)
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Don’t expect to see any substantial improvements, since we, as a class, are paying the unique versatility tax. For the elementalist being the superior versatility class.
But perhaps we can get our toons, when using (2) Grappling Line, cry something like come here and stomp me already for the gods’ sakes!
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Perhaps it’s a bug or I’m merely bitter and/or paranoid, but… did ANet stealth nerf the aforementioned Med Kit ability? It used to remove several or all conditions, now it only cures one.
Well, if it is a nerf we all saw it coming, all the complaints about engineers steamrolling other classes, all the elementalists re-rolling the real versatility class without a damage malus.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
100nades allows a burst that, imo, no class should have. Not even my favorite one. ^.^ I’d like expect to see this spec, hopefully along with other extreme burst builds, toned down.
→ Problem is, that will leave the engineer as a the good ol’ 2-3 class again. 2-3x the keystrokes for 2/3 the impact. Guess that’s a sort of engineer catch phrase. More effort for less return than other classes.
So let’s hope ANet is wise enough not to nerf Kit Refinement + Static Discharge into oblivion without addressing the kittenload of issues we got here.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I’d bet 10s Kit Refinement + Static Discharge will be targeted. KR will simply trigger the kit’s spam-able ability while SD will receive a hefty cool down.
Both traits allow us to wily break out of the bracket ANet set for this class. Thrice the keystrokes for 2/3 the impact.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I’ve been stuck with Windows much too long. If it weren’t for MMOs I would have gotten rid of this pile of horrible architecture flaws long ago.
I’m aware this isn’t an easy, short term goal, but I support the request for a native linux client.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Pardon for shamelessly pushing this thread up, but…
-> Sticky and right click targeting options please.
Pretty please with a (metric) ton sugar on top. This apparently simple tweak would address the (imo) single most annoying problem in this game.
Some kind of official response would also be highly appreciated.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Only an engineer has firearms effective only at range zero.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I second the OP’s point. But we’ve got different related problems here, playing together:
- Right-click targeting
- Targeting on mouse down / up (both already discussed)
- Non-sticky targeting: target drops on clicks onto non-targetable stuff
Afaik sticky/nonsticky targeting is the established term for this.
Sticky targeting contrariwise means clicking somewhere into the botany does not drop your target. I feel this option would solve the better part of the issue.
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
There’s another problem with the ground targetting grenade kit I haven’t found described here.
The ground targetting requires the player to tilt the camera slightly forward, or else the exact target position is hard to determine. Then however the target unit frame becomes an even more constant irritation. It blocks your view on the target, the whole fray or catches the mouse click, making your character drop his grenades at his own feet. This impedes well timed reactions like dodging, blocking, reflecting, etc.
Ofc this affects other classes as well.
Possible solution: let us reposition the target unit frame. Perhaps right above our own life indicator. Even w/o the GT issue it is an annoyance as it blocks your far sight.
If I could choose I’d really prefer simple, uniform unit frames for character and target above the hotbar in terms of oversight. There good reasons why car dashboards are positioned below the front shield. And not in it’s upper third. ^^
Edit: would it constitute double posting if I re-send this into the suggestion board? Probably belongs rather there.

sings
Out there is a fortune waitin’ to be had
You think they’ll let it go you’re mad
You’ve got another nerf comin’
No, seriously, I’m certain this documented build is sufficient to get Static Discharge nerfed.

“We heard complains about engineer requiring two abilities, each with a preceding kit swap, to compete with one non-engineer ability.
To address this, we merged two respective abilities into one, which can now be triggered directly be dialing a 4-digit-code on the numerical pad.”
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
Can’t agree here, and I’m certainly not suspicious of seeing the engineer brightly. RB gives you a stun breaker on a very short cd, an extraction tool + blast finisher which works great with Smoke Bomb e.g. One of the best retreat moves we have, especially as it launches us away from the enemy we fight.
Rocket Kick hits heavily with condition dmg builds. Ofc there are engineer typical restrictions, you need to get in melee range and it tends to miss moving targets. So it’s fine in PvE but awkward in PvP at best. Engineer typical. ^^
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
The kit engineer has more cooldowns to manage than any other class. One of my setups features 4 kits (+ weapon, ofc), giving me 21 recharge timers for them alone. Plus 4 toolbar and one elite timer, a whooping total of 25.
16/17 of which aren’t visible.
Even with a less kit heavy setup the contrast to my thief is drastic. I’m not sure if it is intended having one class so much more difficult to play than another.
As the topic states, I suggest adding visible timers for inactive kits. I’m tinkering on a tool for my own use for that purpose. (Am I in trouble now?)
Or, alternatively and better, reduce the heavy cooldown timer bias this class has. Playing engineer sort of resembles playing Memory in the heat of combat. -.-
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
P.S. Allow movable unit frames while you’re at it. Having my targets health frame at the top-center give me a headache (yes it really does) after a while of playing. Moving the frame down near my own health frame makes more sense.
=)
I really have to concur with this. While I’m, after some earlier troubles , doing fine with the FoV now (*dodge, runs for cover), the target unit frame is pretty much always in my way. It sticks exactly where I’d see a distant target I’m facing towards. That is about the worst position I could think of.
You ArenaNet guys prefer a clean an simple style, so what about three simple horizontal bars, target HP, player HP, player endurance, target effects above and player’s below? I’d buy that with gems if I had to. ^.^
