Holy crap it scares me that people are freaked out.

People are freaking out over words chosen by a marketing team. Think about it, if you add a defensive ascension slot that allows you to say best this type of monster or reduce such and such status effect, is that not growing more powerful?

People say there will be a gear treadmill. Please, show me one of the ascension stats that will be in the game.

Since you can’t, isn’t it a little too early to worry?

I’m going to go ahead and stop reading your post right here to provide you with:

This isn’t about the infusion/agony mechanic. (Well, there is some complaint about that mechanic as well, but that’s not where the main focus of the complaint is.)

The problem is that the new item has objectively higher stats than the level 80 exotic item.

While I’m excited for new content and new gear skins, I am rather unhappy with the stat increase and gating mechanic.

It seems to fly in the face of Colin’s blog post shortly before launch:
http://www.arena.net/blog/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success

His ‘Fun impacts loot’ paragraph speaks to avoiding doing this very thing:

The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.

Massive Twilight vs Massive Sunrise!

Personally I like Sunrise more…its less “angsty”, if you know what I mean. Lots of people will be going for Twilight.

“Twilight reflects the emptiness in my soul where a heart should be.”

Ok, maybe not quite that much, but yeah I can see the “dark means its cool” crowd going for Twilight.

So, what about addons ?

I want to point out that addon support is not an ‘all-or-nothing’ thing. Addons can only do what the API set up by ArenaNet actually allows. For example, if ArenaNet doesn’t want addons like damage meters or DBM, all they have to do is not make combat log events available to addon writers.

There’s still plenty of non-combat addons that I’d very much like to have in Guild Wars 2 that I don’t think anyone would have any objection to. Things like inventory addons (like being able to see the inventory of any of your characters and your bank at any time), roleplaying addons (like being able to write a physical description of your character that can be viewed by others with the same addon), item libraries (like being able to browse a items in-game that can be linked to chat), and yes UI addons of just changing the unit frames or moving the buttons around.

What exactly needs explaining? It’s a straigthforward bar graph of characters by gender, job, race, and profession.

No, they aren’t going to give the Y-axis numbers. That’s really not relevant anyway, it’s about the ratios.
