TLDR at the end.
IMO avoid spending karma points on it, and don’t bother upgrading too often.
Same for crafted gear, level crafting the cheapest way possible for the sake of fun and progress, don’t chase after an item going out of your way, chances are it will cost you more than the TP equivalent, and it will only be good for a few hours worth of play at best.

Also, you might want different types of stats as you level and try out builds, and levels go fast, so never splash out.

In general, up to 50-60 TP is ridiculously cheap. Armor largely takes care of itself, just get a new weapon and use cheap sigils on it every 5 to 10 levels when you get a chance and bump into a TP NPC on your way, and occasionally buy the things that never drop such as rings/accessories.

Levels actually go by faster in the 30s and 40s than they do in the 20s, if you go from heart to heart and stop at every event you will outgrow gear every three to five hours tops, some times faster than that (there are odd stretches in your storyline and the areas it takes you to where I literally got three levels in little more than an hour).

TLDR: Refresh your accessories and weapon every 5 to 10 levels for cheap, craft for progress not to chase a piece of gear, and do it all by compromising to get the highest level and quality you can get for cheapest on TP. Other things (mats and karma) are best saved for 80 or invested wisely to skill up.

The more I play and read about engineer, the more I’m reminded about shammies in WoW. It only took blizz what, seven years before they had racial totem models? (after everybody except draenei used tauren models).

Yeah, I agree it’d be kinda cool, but the game is so pretty, the graphics often on the edge of being too busy already, that it’s at the very bottom of things I feel I need for now. Not to mention I hardly ever have turrets out anyway, not until their scaling gets a good fixing.

When I made my engi, now at 36 so won’t reroll just for this, I wasn’t really aware of what the various aesthetic options entailed (and how permanent they were), and went for story. Which means now I run around like a hobo backpacker all the time!

I can’t take the darn massive kit on my back any more, really. Anybody knows if there’s a way to hide it or change it?
