Fractals- Best content Anet ever created

I like the way they are now. Reward increases would always be cool but as it stands it is a nice low time investment mode that can get you decent rewards. Much like Dungeons before except this time it is contributing less to inflation because not everybody does fractals.

Risk/Reward is fairly well balanced right now. If changes were made to make them harder I would want more rewards since sometimes I just don’t have the time to sit through an extremely long fractal (looking at you thaumanova).

lol when this gets patched, no one will bother with the fractal anymore, some dedicated will, but as most people couldn’t tank moss man at that level you will see maybe 1 or 2 parties, and they will take awhile to fill, this is about balance and Anet have to see the problem,

Moss Man, and the Vet Wolves hit hard at higher levels, so hard they could down you in 1 or 2 hits, oh but wait I can dodge the attack, WHAM I just lost all boons that where protecting me, and now here comes a random condition followed by oh look im dead.

People will always find the fastest, easiest way to do content, and the current way is the fastest and easiest, that should tell Anet that something is wrong, and people are not enjoying the level so are using a work around to beat it……

Pretty sure you haven’t touched high level fractals without the pole since the patch. Seeing as everything hits like a wet noodle now. They nerfed mob/boss damage into the ground.

Which is an assumption on your part rather than fact. Yes, mob damage is down but that is actually to promote a variety of builds to be workable. With higher damage that was so high that building defensive wasn’t an option (you would get instagibbed anyway) there was actually no reason not to go full dps. Now there is.

I do think they need to fix the instabilities before they fix anything else. Being punished for dodging (aka good play) is part of the reason people don’t want to do high level fractals in a normal way.

So everybody knows it is slower but the people who PREFER not to play that way don’t want others to play that way. Am I getting it right so far?

Look, your regular PUG usually doesn’t do all that well in fractals and just wants to have fun in their way. Whether that is using the pole or fighting on the ground that is their choice and is none of your business.

Just go create your own group if you want to not do things that way. I find that all issues aside things like this actually allow players to participate in fractals. Besides that, I only ever see the pole used in 50+ fractals and never in any fractal below 50. It is very rare to see, probably because a pug group can take out the enemy normally but when you get to decently high levels you wouldn’t be able to in a PUG group. All fixing this would do is force players out of the game mode for the sake of people wanting others to play like them.

A better solution would be to make higher level fractals less of a chore (read, easy enough for a pug group to do with proper hp scaling) then remove the method because it is no longer useful. As it stands now you’re just going to alienate players. You may argue that is fine for you, but long term it is a terrible strategy as you want the medium’s playerbase to grow and not shrink.

Besides, if you wanted hardcore PvE go do raids. I’m sure there are more than enough raiders for you there.

Play what you enjoy, but keep in mind that the future of Ele in PvP as always looks grim. This time possibly more grim.

I like ele a lot I just came back and play about a week and I heard about this….poor me lol

All in all it is just one mode afterall. This is an MMO, there is still PvE to fall back on. As well as WvW which is pretty fun if you ask me.

I just think that PvP is too volatile and of course Anet keeps trying to make it an esport which it simply will never be.

What will Ele get to make up for the loss of Celestial Amulet?
They are kinda reliant on it atm.

I really hope for some buffs to traits and weapons. Not particularly because of PvP, but since now they are very likely to be trash in PvP maybe they’ll give ele some buffs that’ll allow other things to be good in different modes.

Looking forward to PvE dagger Dagger/Dagger Focus/Scepter Dagger/Scepter focus and other such setups in WvW (staff is great in WvW, it is in a good place). As well as maybe a traitline buff or two.

Removing cele = removing ele

Senario.2038

Originally I was mildly displeased at the changes to both the Sigil of Energy and lack of Cele amulet. Elementalist literally has no plan B due to the changes and the buffs to fresh air certainly don’t even begin to make up for it.

That said, I’m not a huge PvP player and this is one of the few changes that only affects PvP and not PvE or WvW so I’m ok with it. And of course after the comments in this thread I realize the implications of such a change.

With the changes the Elementalist will very likely not be played AT ALL in PvP and considering Anet likes to balance around PvP which is a terrible idea imo due to it being an MMO….that means if all goes according to plan (aka, elementalist is terrible in PvP) we will see some buffs FINALLY.

I’m tired of getting nerfs, now that the reason for those nerfs is gone that means we can get buffs hopefully. Things I want…

WvW – Celestial stats on ascended gear returned to what they were, gear has no bearing on PvP and in WvW an elementalist with Cele is not as much of a problem as in PvP. You can’t affect everybody with your heals and boons, and it really doesn’t matter since you could get all boons up all the time anyway. Celestial isn’t going to make you unkillable in WvW.

General non-staff weapon buffs – While staff has a few quirks it is the most consistently good weapon in the overall game, being good at WvW and PvE but not PvP. I would like a few buffs to Dagger (offhand and mainhand) as well as Focus and Scepter. I personally DESPISE using fresh air because I think it is boring/not fun for me, but if the other weapons were buffed then I’d be fine with it. I want to be able to have decently good builds in PvE and WvW for Ele’s other weapons. Even in WvW where you can still do Cele Ele, the bigger group you are in the less useful you are with any weapon other than staff. PvE basically is just Staff Only, other weapons are for fun.

From the most interesting class to....

I think you are more disappointed by the fact that the immortal ele is replaced by immortal mesmer. Just because your class does not feel as powerful as before doesnt mean it has suddenly become boring.
Tempest is very fun to play. I like how i can keep my team alive and fully heal them in few seconds, rather than just run around being unkillable as before the expansion.
It is a matter of personal preference. If you are enjoying D/D arcane then continue to play as one, but dont bash on the specialization.
Specs are supposed to give an alternative style of playing the class. To my eyes more options mean more interesting gameplay. It would be boring if the Tempest offered the same play-style as core ele. Core Ele is more of a back line-stance swapping class, but as a Tempest you are a front line support that focuses on 1 or 2 attunements at a time.

Or maybe they mean what they say and think that Tempest is BORING. I mean, if I cared that mesmer was more tanky I’d say so. But I don’t. You want to know why? Because I don’t play mesmer and I don’t care. This isn’t a game that I think is based solely around competitive gameplay.

As an ele/mes main for 3 years I had to drop both classes. Mes because the direction chrono went is amazing but for some reason I just don’t like it and I can’t explain it. Mes engi and necro have by far the best communities as well. On the flip side I love tempest but the ele community is harsh and for the most part bad. If you don’t like tempest that’s fine but calling it trash when it dominates in pvp and pve is just stupid

Ele community is bizarre. Even being the best at everything isn’t good enough for the community.

The ele is only best as waterbot bunker healer at the moment, perhaps you can consider class canon meteors being “best at something”, but that is just because the PvE AI is really lacking and enemies stay in the red circle. I will give you this, the ele is good with fields and some cc.

For condi and spike damage, at both close range and long range other classes are better.

And here lies the problem

You acknowledge that Ele is in the meta, especially in a harsh and awful pvp meta it has somehow STILL found a way to get in there, and yet you STILL bash it. Other classes cant even come close and you still find a way to put Ele down in every single post single the Tempest reveal, and actually before that. I know you love Ele but you hurt this community far more than you help it

Tempest is boring. Not that it isn’t viable. I mean who wants to bunker 24/7 to make it work? Or sit in overload for 4 seconds while you do pretty much nothing as you can’t do anything otherwise it interrupts the overload.

If you don’t LFG and taxi into a map you won’t get anything done on any of the maps sadly. I’ve been trying to get into AB and keep ending up on dead maps so I wasted a lot of my free time today. Any taxi for AB is for Octovine only and not for a fresh map. DS isn’t much better as you have to spam getting into an organized map every other hour.

Today was depressing for me. The only open world map that is constantly being done is Silverwastes and I’ve already done that Ad Nauseum. I want to do HoT maps to get black diamonds but I can’t even get into a fresh map so I can earn keys and aurillium.

Like if Anet added a new fractal that was literally just 1 veteran and then after you kill it you completed the fractal, they’d defend that too. “I just want my dailies I don’t wanna play the game”

You’re a joke if you defend this.

I’m sure this is 100% a constructive argument and not a personal attack on people who do log on just to play their dailies and then have to get off. Seriously, lay off and don’t enforce your way of playing on everybody else. The higher tier fractals will see more play when they aren’t absolutely terrible due to toughness scaling. Nobody wants to do higher tier fractals because just one fractal takes forever unless you have condi builds.

Senario.2038

You can do high level fracs and get globs or even ahrds and then break them in the MF for the lesser version. Theres a formula for this.

That wasn’t the point. The point was to take RNG out of the equation so you don’t sit around doing your fractals hoping a shard would drop or a glob. I hate RNG gating and when it comes to higher level fractals you pretty much have no choice and must upgrade your rings to infused/attuned.

While there is a case to make for long time fractal players who have a surplus of these materials. New players will have to HOPE for a drop. If they don’t then it could take many weeks to just get enough to infuse their rings or backpacks.

And yes, I know you can convert between them.

Senario.2038

The only thing I can really say is if they really wanted to make GW2 more into an E-Sport. Their gonna have to do some serious re-arranging related to people using gear. Don’t get me wrong, considering I’ve never actually done any of the sPvP or PvP pertaining to GW2. Only thing I’ve actually done has entered WvW several times.

Just based on that area alone they need to make sure everyone has some type of standard gear for any type of competition and class…err Profession. Meaning if say Joe comes in and has all Ascended gear on and say Bob comes in and has maybe one Ascended piece and the rest exotic or even lower. Then Bob would have a dis-advantage then Joe.

Granted if someone isn’t level 80 yet and enters WvW their stats get scaled but their still wearing very low gear. Compared to someone else that has probably been playing the game longer and is all decked out in BIS gear for their class or Profession.

They do in the form of amulets don’t they? That said, it still isn’t ideal or good for being an esport.

Upcoming Fractal Changes

Senario.2038

It seems kind of silly to let people speculate and get their hopes up about the fractal changes dropping today when you guys knew it was never part of the plan. A simple “It won’t be the coming with the December 1st patch” would have done.

To be clear, speculation isn’t something we can control, nor will we bounce into every thread that contains a speculative comment to try address it. We did not announce, and never planned for, a drop on December 1st. If you are disappointed, I really am sorry to hear that. I’m familiar with speculation — we had a lot of it as we prepared to release Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Guil… well, you follow my drift. It’s part of the nature of our sharing info about upcoming games, features, or improvements, that someone will speculate a date and that the date — even while never stated by us — may come to be seen as “obvious” or even “official.”

In this case, we wanted to share the news that good things are coming, but as in other cases, a date was not tied to that info.

I just checked with Production, and everything is on track to see the introduction of fractal changes later this month.

Hey all,

I know that some of you were thinking that we’d be releasing updates to fractals today, but that was not the plan. There’s still a lot of stuff coming in December — this is, after all, only the 1st of the month -- so hold tight and you’ll see the fractal changes soon!

thank you for the communication, at least it was a bit quick (better late than ever).

But the frustration from many of us waiting for a fix to the rewards is over 9000!!!!!!

I understand and sympathize. I like what’s coming, but I do know it’s difficult to wait!

Speaking of fractal changes, could you please add a way of buying Vial of Condensed Mists Essence from fractal npc vendors? I spent all day yesterday attempting to farm mobs by myself with no luck. I am willing to put the effort in to getting these vials, but I certainly don’t plan on spending months on end just trying to obtain however many I will need for the final few parts of Astralaria Collection III.

Agree, let us buy vials, globs, and shards for varying amounts of fractal relics or even pristine fractal relics for the shard. (1 to 1 would be fine). Less RNG is good imo.

Who are you to tell me what fractal I should play? Let people play what they want. Every day there is LFG groups doing things that are not fractal or molten boss.

There is also the problem of casual vs hardcore here. A casual player will want to log in, get their dailies in the time they have, log off. A hardcore person would get their dalies and then some.

This is a non issue, some people want to do short fractals in the time they have. Some are fine doing longer ones. Restricting people so they have to play your way is just not fun.

GW2 an E-Sport? Yay or Nay?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Senario.2038

Senario.2038

Nay, it is too late and it is an MMO. It is inherently not well suited to being an esport.

At all times, both casual viewership and tournaments the turnout is very poor. With a peak of 3.5k to 4k during a tournament that is just further evidence that you are straight up irrelevant. Even if you were to take the viewer count on the 2014 tournament for GW2 on Youtube which is clearly not an accurate number of concurrent viewers but rather the number of times the video was watched it is still pitiful numbers.

Even Fighting games which are about mid-tier esport games in terms of viewership surpass it easily.
Guilty gear Xrd (A NEW GAME AT THE TIME) got 131k at EVO
Marvel vs Capcom 3 (A game that has zero hope for a sequel due to Disney and has faced criticism for severe imbalance due to loops) – 177k
Mortal Combat X (ANOTHER NEW GAME) got 190k peak viewership

SUPER SMASH BROTHERS MELEE (I actually have nothing bad to say about this game, it is amazing to play and to watch.) – had 211k peak viewership beating out almost every other game at the event including the newer Super Smash Bros 4 and came in second for peak viewership only behind Street Fighter 4.

This is a 14+ Year old game people, FOURTEEN. It has survived this long because it is a very deep game with a very passionate community that actually wants to support it being an esport. Everything is grassroots as Nintendo won’t even support Melee as they want to sell Smash 4 to people. You have rivalries, exciting plays, a lot of visual and audio cues to see what is happening and commentators who at the very least try to explain what is going on to the untrained eye. Not to mention a playerbase and viewerbase that actually gets excited both playing and watching the game.

The key takeaway from this imo is…You cannot force Esports. Your community has to want it and if they don’t you cannot force it upon them as they are the ones who are playing the game. It doesn’t matter how much money you throw at the problem.

Obviously I left out games such as Mobas which have immense viewership that boggles the mind. They are in a whole different tier of successful esport games all together.

This seems simple enough, give a block more power to avoid these types of creeps. This is a very very reasonable request and it sucks that it isn’t already a feature. Besides if you block a person you generally don’t want to be associated with them ever and it should never happen.

Requirement for Berserker. Really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Senario.2038

This is simply bugging me, it is.

I am not one to run the Berserker build, I don’t like it, I have tried it many times in the last 3+ years and it just doesn’t mesh with me. Yet it never hindered my gameplay until… now… seemingly.

I run a tank build, so does my husband. If not Tank then Condition. This is my choice. This choice never seemed to affect how I far I got into the game until the release of the Raids.

It seems almost impossible for me to get into a raid party. I see people starting up Raid parties with the following demands:

15k+ AP, full set of Ascended Berserker Gear, that MUST be pinged to squad leader before he even CONSIDERS you to be apart of the party.

This to me is… absurd, I’m sorry.

Tangled Depths Meta. I still have yet to learn this event, and I WANT to, yet just the other night, no one doing it would take me in their squad because I wasn’t running berserker.

Listen, I understand completely why this build is strongly coveted, but… but not everyone can run that build successfully.

Is it really fair to punish those of us who are not Berserkers? Heck, even me and my husband last night set up out alternate account to have a Beserker Reverent. I ran her and kept dying left and right left and right, left and right…

Listen, playing the game of “Let’s see who dies first” may be for for you, but it isn’t to me. I’m allowed to partake in these events too, ya know. And I am hitting a point now where I am beginning to not even want to play at all cause people won’t let me join the events.

Don’t punish me…

It sounds like they were complete jerks. As a question, what class do you currently play?

I’ll admit that I have been avoiding raids because people can be the most elitist ever and that just doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve been fine running berserker gear but only because I play elementalist and have a lot of ways to get out of painful situations.

I highly suggest finding a group of players who you can play with that aren’t random people on the internet. Maybe guild members? Best advice I got for dealing with pugs. But it is pretty unreasonable how much players expect out of others just to even get into a group, even for raids.

Playing the tank might also help (I understand it isn’t much better since now you are locked into a class but…people will be people).

Dragon’s Stand is incredibly fun though, have you tried it? Tangled Depths is mostly a loss but DS, AB, and VB are all in good fun (and in order of easiest to complete to hardest, thanks raid portal.)

To me it looks like they want to capitalize on the Whales who just buy an insane amount of gems with real money and keep afloat that way rather than putting the effort into making a game with better rewards that people would want to support.

You’ll just get all the things you need and have the useless one overflowing your inventory/bank.

But then you can make it yourself and it wouldn’t be a problem. It makes everything that you can craft fairly accessible. And really I doubt materials can ever bottom out now if they are used in ascended gear. Because now people will be using these mats to make ascended → Which they will either use or salvage for balls of dark matter for the new legendary recipes.

As long as there is an adequate sink for materials there will always be just enough demand to keep the price alright. Having players able to gather a decent amount of the material just means that the average player can farm up the materials reasonably where the rich player will just save time and buy it off the TP. You didn’t have to reduce rewards and increase the necessary materials needed.

And again it only really applies to crafting materials that you need in bulk. More specialized crafting materials and rare ones will always be the pricey ones such as freshwater pearls or charged lodestones.

They simply made too many loot nerfs and recipe changes all at once which double dipped into the effects and that is why things are just way too expensive to justify buying.

@senario
Oh yeah, there are many bad deals on the TP, some things I would never buy even tho I might want it. Price is just too bad. Still, many ppl buy bag slots at that price (yeah I dont get it either), and therefore why put the price down permanently? And those bundles, off. Not for me either. But again, ppl buy them so why not? I would think they got more money lowering as more would buy, but hard to know if not knowing number on how many actually buys them. They must give a lot of money so why change? If they didnt get much sales, then the price might come down. Before that time, why do that right?

For the advertising, dont get how that does anything. It simply tell its a possibility. “Hey guess what, you can get lots of sweet gold from trading gems”. Okey, cool. I dont want that but hey, not like they are forcing me right? Do you dislike advertising on tv same way?

They made a good game, now they need to pay their workers. And ppl want to buy stuff to support the company or because they want the stuff. Those who dont want, dont buy. Whats the problem? The fact is buying these things, like gold, isnt pay to win. Its just to look better or have things more convenient, that is all.

What really grinds my gears if the simple kitten fact Anet has not been selling char slots on discount in a long time, give me char slots plz

It is fully within their right to advertise the option. That said it doesn’t make me want to spend real money on gems to get gold. It is simply not a good deal for me. You don’t get nearly enough gold for the amount of cash you spend. I’d rather have cool deals on skins or other things. Like maybe having a daily sale on a few items (random).

They can pay their workers with the money they got from selling HoT. I don’t see how telling ppl to buy gold with gems rather than actual content is better. People can spend whatever they want…but honestly if I got good rewards like pre HoT in terms of reward for the amount of time I play I’d spend a heck of a lot more to support the game because not only is the game fun, but the dev clearly cares about the happiness of their players. Unfortunately the across the board nerfs for getting gold/gear isn’t helping their case.

A few things that would be on my list if I got better rewards: (obviously over time)
Character slots, I want at least 2 to play two other classes I’m pretty sure I’d enjoy.
Bag slots (if they were account bound). I’d max them out asap.
All the gathering tools so I can just not deal with that inventory clutter.
A glider skin, I really hate the default look. Just not enough to justify spending more money with the game as it is.
One more bank tab, more loot and gold means more storage space I’ll need.
Storage expander – So I have less clutter and can save space and stockpile materials.

Not counting any of the stuff that would be pure aesthetics.

Odd, I’m making more Gold off mats than ever before. And exchanging that Gold for Gems as the rate has been more lucrative lately.

I guess the ‘fix’ was undesirable for dungeon-runners, but great for us lowly casual gatherers.

This would be quite right in my eyes. Just dungeons that lost, lots of mats cost more now and can get you a nice amount of gold. I sold lots of mats not needed, have more gold than I have ever had (still not too much, but a few hundred).

And like one said here, Anet is a business. Ofc they need to get money, dont think they made this game for you guys to get everything free and never use rl money for cool stuff and skins. Not that you really need to, as you dont need anything in gem store to play

For a last comment, Anet! Char slots, I want them!!

If they really wanted to get money, make a game with decent rewards and good deals on the black lion trading company. Or at least content I want to buy. I used to spend more gems pre HoT but have since stopped because of a few backwards things on the shop and due to the scarcity of sales. 1) Bag slots. Why are they character bound at 400 gems when a bank tab is about 600? 20 slots in a bag and more than 20 for a bank tab. And character bound. 2) I have to buy this overpriced bundle to get the skin I want? What is this? I don’t want any of the other stuff and it is way too pricey to justify spending on it as a group when I only want one thing.

Advertising gems to gold is by far the one thing I don’t want to see on the shop. Advertise to me a sale on some outfit, gathering tool, character slot, or even just some new skins that may be worth looking into. But please don’t tell me to go buy gold with gems instead of getting skins or other things.

A good company would make a good game first, then entice people to support the game because the game is good and people want shiny cosmetics or something slightly useful. Other game companies do this, I’d like to point to Path of Exile personally as I love that game and the devs are almost 100% not money grubbing in terms of their cash shop. Everything is straight up a skin and the only thing that is kinda pay to win is bank tabs, and once you buy a certain amount you don’t need anymore because you won’t fill it up in time for the next update where you start all over again as it is an ARPG. And no, you cannot buy currency with real money legitimately.

Will Anet nerf silverwaste?

Title. It’s one of the more reliable ways to acquire gold and mats, be it event map or chest train.

Now I’m NOT saying Anet has gone all crazy but it seems like they are soft pushing players into spending real money for gold by having all the gold “fix” like dungeons etc. Suppose they are to do this again will silverwaste get hit? I hope not

They already did. Chest farms now get less chests per run around the map. Happened the day HoT was launched.

In addition to this anything generating salvage materials was slightly nerfed according to Anet’s philosophy of “scarcity” being good for people.

They really need an advertisement that says ‘you can go into your materials tab and sell stuff there for gold!’

Judging from all the complaints about there not being any sources of ‘liquid’ gold post-dungeon nerf, it sure seems like a huge chunk of the playerbase is not familiar with that one little trick.

We are, but it isn’t “new” gold it is gold that people had earned previously. Not only that you do reach a point where you run out of materials that sell for a decent amount of money so your only way to get gold is through avenues that don’t generate new gold but rather use existing gold (and the amount you earn is very dependent on the market).

Basically, people want a reliable way to earn liquid gold rewards. No, inflation is not bad for the economy but actually good for the economy because mild inflation gives people a reason to spend their gold now rather than wait because their gold is worth less over time. If gold is constantly worth more people will hoard because the longer the hoard the more they can buy later down the line.

I find it highly unnecessary to advertise buying gold with gems compared to advertising actual gemstore content either on sale or fairly new.

Gotta admit this felt kinda like a stab in the back. I understand I don’t have to pay for gems to gold, nor would I want to. I just expected to log on today, thanksgiving day and tomorrow being black friday to see if there were any good deals on the store. Instead I get the impression that they aren’t even hiding the fact they want you to convert gems to gold lol. I mean, that place could have been anything from a black friday advert with some of the items in the gemstore or just the new items available in the gemstore. Not a clear cash grab of gems to gold which is a terrible conversion ratio imo.

They really need to separate balance between the game modes of PvP and PvE as balancing only around PvP is detrimental to other game modes (WvW is largely harder to become OP in due to being able to counter certain builds in one way or another with some person in your group).

As long as they keep nerfing around PvP the viability of classes in other content will suffer, this is going to be very concerning as you look at the raids that are released and what is required in them.

Diamond SKILL

Senario.2038

So here is a fun question, assume that you get what you want (regardless of whether or not it is good for the game) and Diamond Skin is removed from the game. What effects will this have?

1) Ele won’t be able to counter things such as perma chill uptime reaper has despite ele really only doing super bunker (that literally is their only role).
2) Ele is even more pigeonholed into taking Water in builds because there is no other specialization that helps them with Conditions and their skills don’t remove enough conditions to be front line. And it still might not be enough as classes which apply condi can apply them a lot and continuously.

90% hp is fine because Ele doesn’t do a lot of damage anyway, and 10% of 19k is only 1.9k hp. They do one thing, bunker and bunker well. Remove that and you can say goodbye to any sense of viability.

Salvage Kits Nerfed?

I would agree that in general it feels like I’m getting fewer materials from the gear I do salvage. But I expected as much thanks to the idea what apparently what is good for the community and economy is not making things accessible by having more of them but making them less accessible by having less of them. “Scarcity”.
