How Guild Wars 2 Should Have Ended

I wasn’t aware GW2 ended already…

Same here. So I’m confused as to what is with the “this is how it should have ended”.

Why do Sylvari need underwater breathing apparatus?

in Lore

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

Plants actually do the “inverse” of human breathing, in that they take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. If they didn’t, life on earth would have to be arranged in quite a different way.

^ that is the reason why they need a breather. Because there isn’t enough carbon dioxide in water, especially in the present time when it is mostly dominated by the undead which doesn’t use any oxygen in the water.

Dwarves in Expansion?

in Lore

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

There’s a living breathing dwarf? Seriously? As in dwarf the race in GW? Maybe that’s a memory or something like that, not really alive.

Because as far GW lore is concerned, all dwarves sacrificed themselves to turn into stone so they can battle the destroyers, research about how to defeat the elder dragons without worrying of getting killed. (Spoiler already here…)

  • Click the “Represent” button

It worked for me that way 12 hours ago.

Ranger Pet's

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

Please fix dead ranger pets and make them lie prone in place where they actually died. This is really frustrating when i want to revive downed player I press F and in the same time dead pet run in the way and I end up reviving the pet.

These pets are more distracting than helping.

Umm… I don’t think that is a bug. It was programmed as intended. I can’t remember the exact explanation why they have to move when they’re “downed” (not really dead).

But I agree, I think it is better to have an option to let them stay where they are. Yep, I said an option because other players will surely not like it.

XP level (Story Requirements).

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

Star Trek Online.
Champions Online.
Look them up.
You can level solely via story.
And this I know, because I did it!

GW1 was similar to, though not quite (thanks to Eye of the North!).
If I had XP problems, I just ran off to another expansion and got more XP.

Yep, you should indeed give thanks to Eye of the North, otherwise you’ll be complaining like you are doing now when Prophecies first went out, then Factions (partly probably), and Nightfall.

And honestly, I’m getting bored with the hearts now.
I’m getting the “done one, done them all” feeling.
It’s all about repetive tasks to rank up completion of the heart.
The task itself is irrevalent, they’re all the same to me.

Then it is evident that the problem lies not with the game mechanics but with you

And I’ve always laughed at the idea of GW being an mmo!
Very rarely in GW1 did I get asked for a team to follow the story.
4 Campaigns, all done with maybe 10 teams along the way.

To me, it’s a soloplayer game with online social areas.

FYI: Guild Wars 1 is NOT an MMO. ArenaNet never said it is an MMO. ArenaNet said it is a CORPG – Cooperative Online Role-Playing Game. They even repeatedly said in interviews that they do not consider and never considered GW as “MMO”.

So, yep, there’s no reason to laugh because GW is not an MMO, never was, never will.

Also, I don’t know if you can team for personal story missions.

You see, that’s the problem. You don’t know a thing about the game because you want to play a “singleplayer online role-playing game”. Then here you are complaining about not getting enough EXP to do the next part of your storyline mission.

And also, I’m wary about teaming out in the “public world” as it were.
Let’s just say I’ve had bad experiences with loot/xp leeching and unless I really trust someone, I’m not going to team with them.

And here we are again. You want to play a Singleplayer Online Role-Playing Game and the end-result is = you do not know a thing about the game, ever.

Secondly, you are locking yourself up in your own little world. Get out there! for crying-out-loud. How would you know how to play the game if you just keep to yourself and let your worries stop you? How?

Did you even know that what you are being wary of is totally non-existent in Guild Wars 2? Of course not, because you just want to play with yourself and you are letting your “this is how MMOs should be, my standard, my way” idea stop you. Don’t let it stop you!!

Loot in GW2 – we all get separate loots. There is no loot stealing in this game.
EXP leeching – we all get the same EXP, even the bonus EXP (I’ll bet you don’t know how bonux EXP works)
Kill-Stealing – KS is non-existent in this game.

Tag all the mobs you can tag, as long as you are still in range when the mob gets killed by another player, you get something from it (and probably some loot too, but you have to go back for it).

1,000 of us can kill the same mob and all of us 1,000 may get loots (I said may because getting loot is random – BUT it has nothing to do with – “he took my loot” concept).

And that is just the tip of what GW2 has to offer only if you will learn to play the game.

No offense, but your post and replies to the people helping you understand, it’s clear you don’t want to get rid of your notions and “ideal” MMO, the “this is how I envision an MMO” attitude. Either this is the game for you, or you go back to your other MMOs, or develop your own.

Again, learn to play the game. There is nothing wrong with the EXP rewards.

A tutorial on how to use it and the cannons will help.

@gods knight.4936 is correct, you have to hold down the keys. When firing, the distance your bullet will travel is based on the firing power (ie how long you pressed 2 down).

If you played scorched earth or HedgeWars type games, that’s how the trebuchet and cannons are played.

Corpses with loot don't last long enough.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

(combat looting is frowned upon by a lot of players as well)

Suggestion: Loot everytime you see Search. It’s a simple press of ‘F’.

No one is going to frown upon you because there is no “loot” animation in GW2. No one will know you are looting while in combat. And since this isn’t a DPS-centric game, missing that 50milliseconds because you pressed F is negligible. The only time you don’t want to loot is when you are using a skill/spell that shows a casting bar – as that will get cancelled prematurely.

That way you don’t have to go back if you left bodies with items to loot. Unless it was killed remotely by range type characters, in which case, you have to decide if you want to go back to it or not.

In any case, it’s more of a suggestion than a bug. And I agree with your suggestion. Maybe do it something like in GW1 where you’ll get all the loots and get to choose which ones to keep (so you don’t fill up your inventory quickly) regardless if you looted them or not, since in GW2 we all have separate loots anyway. (Although in GW1, that feature only triggers if the mission ends after killing mobs).

Looting Problematic

Aye. Though that’s a suggestion for improvement, not a bug

My workaround to it is to press F repeatedly fast so your client will send the F command to the server multiple times before it gets blocked out by the Talk dialogue.

Move around a lot too. It’s a minor annoyance, at least to me, until the system gets enhanced.

^ that.

It’s with the position of the player or your pet/minions (if you have one) relative to the mob. To you it looks close enough but to the programming, it isn’t.

The workaround is to stay really close or find someone to help you (or do it when the area is crowded – there’s no KS concept anyway, so tag everything you can when the area is crowded, or help everyone you want).

Personal Story: Forging the Pact bug (blocking progress)

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

Try this:

  • Just continue playing

That’s what I did the first time. I never have to retry it. Seriously, just continue to play, as long as he is alive, cutscenes and other triggers will trigger. It worked that way for me, so hopefully it works for you too.

The bug stops after a cutscene. If he bugs again, I just make sure he is alive and continued without him. On the next dialogue scenes (not necessarily cutscenes), he just showed up out-of-nowhere and started helping me.

After trying that method and it still doesn’t work, then sadly, you’ll have to wait until it gets fixed. But do pray the workaround works (workaround = make sure he is alive and just continue with the mission).

  4. Try it again. If it still doesn’t work…
  5. Move to a different zone/map
  6. Try it again.
  7. If it still doesn’t work… try to repeat and see.

What happened to me was just that, I moved to a different map/zone and tada, I can represent again. Others are reporting that moving to PvP areas (sPvP or WvW) works best.

The best interim solution is one of the following:

Both type of items I mentioned are soulbound. The NPC ones, soulbound on buy. The second one, soulbound on use. = Soulbound.

Guild Influence

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

So, I’m wondering if anyone knows how guild influence is actually calculated? Because it seems rather… erratic right now. Is there a secret logic to it that I just don’t get? Is it not working correctly, or is it just, like, a Math.Random function?

So. The other night our guild, which has been saving up for a guild stash, is sitting at an agonizing 999 influence. The following morning, according to the history log, we’ve received 70 influence for member logins over night. This puts our grand total at 1007 influence (because, you know, 999 + 70 = 1007). Great, we queue up the guild stash and are now sitting at 7 influence. So far so good. Later that morning, we receive 4 influence from various events, so now we’re at 21 influence. 7 + 4 = 21.

Maybe I just don’t get the whole ‘addition’ thing.

Lolz. Yep, I noticed the same thing. I think the logs are just delayed and the computation adjusts accordingly over time. ^^ I haven’t bothered to keep close track of it tho, you may want to and share your result with us.

Why demote player ranks on quests?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

To add to the suggestions, you also have study it and formulate a strategy. Adapt to the situation. Attack the problem from a different perspective, and so on.

That’s what I did with a few of my storyline missions where I got scaled down to the max level for that mish.

That’s also what I do everytime I want to take on the challenge of doing storyline missions 4 levels above me. I adapted and adjusted my playstyle, skills, strategy and I was able to finish a couple of missions (1 level above me, 2 levels above me, and 4 levels above me), solo. It didn’t even take much time than what I expected.

In other words, you have to think dynamically and expand your view of the game. It’s not a hack-n-slash game where all you do is Tab, click, press 1,2,3,4, tab again, click, press 1,2,3,4, rinse and repeat. It involves studying, learning, planning, strategizing from beginning to end.

Yes, that includes your weapons, sigils, armours, skills, the weaknesses and strengths of your profession, mob control, which skill to activate first, timing, etc. Especially if you are running solo.

Hope that helps.

How do I read the Gem-to gold/Gold to gem screen?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

What’s confusing me is if the two are tied together. I mean:

The lower the gold/silver value in “Gold to Gem” market means higher Gem return per gold/silver.
The higher the gold/silver value in “Gem to Gold” market means higher gold/silver return per gem.

So for Gold to Gem – the more players exchange their gold to gem, the value will get higher on the next market update, correct? So what does the “Gold to Gem” market use to determine that it should go down?

The same with the Gem to Gold market – the more players exchange their gem to gold, the value will get lower on the next market update, correct? So what does the “Gem to Gold” market use to determine that the price should go up on the next update?

In-real life market, the exchange rate for USD to Euro and Euro to USD is the same. However, in GW2, the exchange rate for Gold to Gem and Gem to Gold are different. So that’s what’s confusing me.

Or am I getting this all wrong? Or I missed to factor in something?

Thanks in advance for the explanation.

[IoJ][PvX] Aleph Order of Istar is Searching for YOU!

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

Aleph Order of Istar: Kin of the Stars is a new gaming community that promotes responsible gaming. We are looking for members (and officers – even aspiring ones) that wants to be a pioneer of this organization and help in molding it and guiding it to reach great heights.

If YOU are that person, then you have two options in joining (as of 7th September 2012)

  1. Post in our official forums here; or
  2. PST/Send in-game mail to: Shael.4703 or Yarso or Amyrei

Here are additional details about this community:

  • Official Name: Aleph Order of Istar
  • Tagline: Kin of the Stars
  • Style: Casual to Semi-Hardcore
  • Mode: PvX (PvE and PvP)
  • Multi-guild stance: We’re friendly to multi-guilders in Guild Wars 2
  • Main server: Isle of Janthir
  • Age limit: strictly 13 years old and above only, and matured in mind/thoughts
  • Rating: PG-13 (reason: we can not control outbursts of non ‘G’ rating chats, so we’re not rating the guild to ‘G’ to make it clear)
  • Timezone preference: All timezones are welcome, no restrictions
  • Game schedule preference: None. Play whenever you want to play. Play whenever you are available.

Again, we promote responsible gaming. If you are a student, we highly encourage prioritizing your studies. (We might even suspend your membership temporarily if we found out you are skipping school, for example.)

Just pure fun and enjoyment. That’s what YOU want right? Then Istar is the right guild for you.

Question:: Black Lion Exchange Cross server???

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

I just wish people would stop selling everything for vendor cost and sometimes selling stuff for a loss. Its great for leveling my crafting but horrible for trying to make gold.

Yeah, people fail at math a lot here I think. They never do the math of the listing costs so they lose money by listing it over vendoring it. Sorta frustrating.

As my friend said, they’re not actually selling those items, rather they’re just getting rid of the items they consider “trash” wherever they are when they picked it up.

It is easier that way because you just have to press ‘O’ and voila, you’ve gotten rid of the items you do not want. No need to go to town and find an NPC to sell those items.

End-result, prices are lower than NPC price.

[Question] - Would you pay for more content

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

Yes I would spend money for Guild Wars 2 as I did with Guild Wars 1.

GW:

  • I bought every Collector’s Edition they released
  • I bought every Pre-Purchase / Pre-Order / and another term they used I can’t remember – that they sold
  • I bought content expansions (which were available online only)
  • I bought extra character slots (I think I have 23)

hmm… what else.

I’d do the same for GW2. Though just not the CE because I don’t need that Rytlock scale figure which brought the price of the CE twice as much. (I would have bought CE if not for that – not to mention, because of it, I’ll have a hard time shipping it to the Philippines, I either have to visit my cousin to pick it up or wait for them to visit us here.) So instead, I bought a DDE (Digital Deluxe Edition).

I plan on buying extra character slots too and other stuff. Buy the expansions, probably a CE if they’ll offer a “regular” CE without those scaled figures that adds too much weight to the box (w/c makes it hard to ship and more expensive to ship), you get the idea.

;)

I’m full support to the game and to ArenaNet (even though there are a rare few areas where I don’t agree with them, but that’s not enough to stop me from supporting them).

Guild Influence Tome

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

Since then the guild changed server, we are a wvw guild and the queing issues on Far Shiverpeaks were very frustrating so we changed to a smaller server, of course we loose all the influence and upgrades, which is completly unfair in my view but alas.

I would like to redirect you to my answer to a sort-of similar thread about Influence and Upgrades here

Since my tome of influence appeared not to apply on the original server, i was wondering A) If i could /reclaim it , or Find out for definate if it applied or not, as i said it did not appear to show up on the guild history and definatly didnt apply at the time.

In one of the official GW2 fansites, there was a news or some forumer that posted information that there is a guild “upgrade” (if you can call it that) that allows a guild to transfer existing Influence which is hidden deep in the gw2.dat file.

If that will be made available in the future or not remains to be seen. Personally, don’t count on it, as it may be something that was dropped and left there in the gw2.dat file (which usually happens in most games) and forgotten.

As for your letter “b” item, try a few hours later or even after 24 hours, usually the guild logs doesn’t reflect some stuff we did until after some time passed or after a maintenance. I keep on noticing that in our guild.

It does look like it’s a role-based game but once you start doing dungeons, you’ll immediately notice that the Holy Trinity doesn’t really exist. There’s only one – you.

Any balanced worlds?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

Oh, let me add. Some players are actually complaining about the fact that when it is their peak hours in WvW, they can’t get out of their base camps because other servers that are mostly peak hours 24/7 are already camping and established siege weapons.

So that’s a good example of a server that isn’t 24/7 alive vs. a server with active players in many timezones. _ I don’t know how much common is that scenario but I do encounter those complaints every now and then (in other GW2 communities).

My blog/sites: gameshogun & Tomes of Knowledge

Any balanced worlds?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Shael.4703

Shael.4703

It’s hard to say. For one, “balance” is relative to the person What you consider “balance” even with the definition you gave, may or may not be even close to us. You know the question: How much balance is balance?

Also, each server is huge. It’s close to impossible to meet/encounter half of the population in your server (not including alts), probably not even a third or a quarter of it.

Probably go to the server that is 24/7 active. By that I meant, when it isn’t your timezone’s peak hours, the server is still kicking and alive because other players in the other side of the world (ie total opposite of your timezone or peak hours) are on the same server as yours.

Those type of servers will more likely produce a better population in all aspects you’re looking at, than servers with only specific timezones where it “wakes up” so-to-speak. But don’t look for high population server, a medium one will do fine, and definitely not a low pop one Again, balance in terms of population too, spread across most, if not all, timezones.

That answers every thing perfectly and thank you very much for explaining it. I want to try out another server for WvW for a couple of days and wanted to know what would happen to my guild and this clears it up.

Thanks again mate, really apprecaited!

No problem, glad to be of help _

Oh, btw, I forgot to mention. ANet said “guild social features” are cross-server. So far what I can confirm as “guild social features” are guild chat and guild roster (which includes the ‘increase maximum member’ upgrade). They might add some more “guild social features” or maybe there are already others but still remain to be seen.

Hmm, since you’re going to test it, I hope you don’t mind, check if you still retain the guild emblem upgrade and guild armorsmith contract (and similar)? Personally, those are sort-of “guild social features” because it doesn’t give anything to the guild at all. But the conflict is that, those upgrades can only be bought with influence – which is server-bound.

_ (Yep the system is confusing)

Yes that. When I got it, there was a DE that brought us all the way north in the territory of the Nightmare Court. It’s easy to spot IIRC. Then there is also a heart there if I’m not mistaken, which asks you to enter their territory too.

Third option is to climb the spiral, enter the Nightmare cave inside, jump down one leaf at a time, then there’s a gate you can open from the inside of the cave and you can reach the skill point area too.

I might have mixed some but it should be close to that ^^

Just get back to the skill point codex (codex or codec? Now I’m confused hehe :p ) and take a new one. I remember doing that once.

If it doesn’t then probably a bug, only way is to report it in the Bug section of the forums.

Do guilds transfer to new home servers when the GL transfers?

in Players Helping Players

Shael.4703

For the long explanation version:

Guilds are cross-server. However when it comes to “Influence” and “Upgrades”, these are server-based. Also, Influence earned by members goes to the “version” or “instance” of the guild where that member’s account has chosen as “Home server”.

Examples:

  1. Shael is on Isle of Janthir while you Sol is on Sea of Sorrows. Both of us are members of the guild “Guild Wars RuleZ [GW4ever]”
  2. When I earn influence, my influence goes to the version/instance of [GW4ever] in MY Home server which is IoJ
  3. When you earn influence, your influence goes to the version/instance of [GW4ever] in YOUR Home server which is SoS
  4. When [GW4ever] in IoJ buys a Guild Bank, only members with Home server of IoJ can use that Guild Bank. Members like you who are in SoS will have to buy your own Guild Bank.

To summarize:

  • Guilds doesn’t have a “Home server” setting/flag
  • Influence earned by members goes to instance/version of the guild of the “Home server OF the member
  • Upgrades bought by an instance/version of the guild stays in that server where it was bought – other members in other “Home servers” will not benefit from it
  • Yes, guilds are cross-server – meaning, you can have members from as many servers as you want
  • Guild chat is cross-server
  • Guild roster is cross-server – so one guild can only have a maximum of 500 members regardless of instance/version of the guild.

So, if your GL transfers server, he will see an instance/version of the guild with 0 Influence and 0 upgrades. (Provided there are no other members in the server he transferred to that was playing there longer than him/her.)

I hope that’s clear. _

No.

To make the long explanation short: Guilds doesn’t have a “home server” flag/setting.

Is WTS/WTB in Map chat "Spam", now that the Trading Post is up?

in Players Helping Players

Shael.4703

I wouldn’t be surprise if they add a trade channel in GW2 too (just like they did in GW1 and strictly enforced it – people get banned if they post it in General :p )

I agree with @Kermit.3691 that you will need to be careful of using the in-game report feature. The best way to go with reporting them is if other people in your zone reports them too. Multiple people reporting trade-spammers is better than one people – it won’t look like a “personal” vendetta or something. The main point being, it will look like that the community is not happy about it (which most of us are anyway).

However, don’t expect immediate action on it because right now they have a long list of stuff to do until things settle down. But I’m with you there, it’s spammy. Let’s add to that – guild recruitment in-game ads.

Joining the Orders

Mhm. It might be a bug but most people who encounter this usually think it is their own human error so maybe not many posts/reports.

Good point _

a thief in the mage order would be quite peculiar ..

Nah. The three Orders are not really profession-specific or were made to have a feeling of “I’m a thief, I’m not supposed to be here”. The “mage” order you’re talking about is probably the Durmand Priory (or Priory for short). It isn’t a “mage” order, the Priory is an order whose way of battling world problems is gaining knowledge through history and spreading that knowledge to everyone in the world. No “mage” related stuff there.

Unless what you mean by “mage” is that the quests are more effective to be finished by Elementalists – in which case, many quests are like that. My first character is in OoW, and Elementalists sure will find it easier to do. My second character is in Priory. My third will be in Vigil. (Vigil is a military type order who believes in “kill them all!” [something like that])

To give you an idea, here’s how my choices are:

  • Sylvari ranger – Order of Whispers
  • Human engineer – Durmand Priory
  • Norn elementalist – Vigil

So personally, I’d say your thief is fine in any order. Not to mention, the Priory are sort-of archaeologists, your Thief character will surely fit in ^_~

Which server are you at?

Some of us here are willing to help if you’re in the same server (since right now, we can not ‘guest’ to any server). Our levels scale down to your zone and we still get EXP, so it isn’t much of a trouble or anything to help new characters. _

I hope you’re in Isle of Janthir

@Shael .. OP isn’t talking about Overflow servers. They’re trying to join a world that’s currently full.

OP, just create a character on whatever world, and transfer when their world isn’t full. Transfers are free right now, and you can usually get in during off-peak times.

Ahh, ic. Cool.

Well, transfer server is the best option, it only stops being ‘the best’ if they have a guild in mind to join to.

Or what you suggested, play elsewhere first and wait for off-peak of the server. (Hopefully it’s not one of the 24/7 servers that have players from most timezones converging.)

That’s the second time I heard/read about “I’m sure I’ve chosen this group but I got the other group”. Could it be a bug? Though probably an isolated bug since, at least for me, you’re only the second one I encountered such a thing happened.

Others say you can switch orders once you finish the storyline mission but I’m not sure about that since I’m only half-way through mine.
