But…in his fight, he was using offensive utilities (frenzy, FGJ and banner of discipline) and an offensive weapon and you were using defensive utilities (I think that glyph of elemental power for extra burning? mist form and arcane shield) and a defensive weapon.

The point I’m trying to make is the damage difference between our elementalist and warrior damage is absurd.

I just finished staff with 3 offensive utility skills. It performed alot better than scepter focus.It took me about 8 min to kill the boss.I forgot to use consumables.With consumables and less screw ups I may be able to get staff down to 7 min.

True but in order to maintain high protection up time elementalist must take another dps hit to pick up traits that apply protection and equip boon duration gear.

If a warrior is having problems staying alive he still can still equip toughness/vit gear and spec into survival traits.

Elementalist can’t because they are already using survival gear/traits.

I’d be fine with that if elementalist did amazing damage and provided a lot utility at the same time but that is not the case.On a boss fight the only thing we can provide is boons and off healing.Warriors can provide the same thing with banners/shouts,do more dps and have better survival.

Top that with a fat HP buffer and tons of armor. Warriors have it because they’re meant to take the hits. Elementalists are meant to evade and negate damage. Complaining that we have less HP than warrior simply doesn’t make sense. It would be like warriors complaining they don’t have invulnerability skills.

I don’t think anyone is meant to take hits in this game.

Right now we’re forced into melee if we use a dagger offhand or main hand.

Elementalist should be given a bit more effective health in pve.I don’t think its very fair warriors can ride around with 20k health in berserker gear. truck 25k 100 blade hits and 3k auto attacks while providing support with banners and shout.

If we did damage like that guy in addition to all the stuff we have now I’d be 100% ok with us having such low health.

I went into Arah to see how bad the gap between war/ele damage is.

It took me 11 min to kill the Berserker Abomination

It took a warrior 4 and a half min.

I’m sure i can get it down to 10 min with better play but I doubt me or anyone else can do much better than that.If you can feel free to post a video to prove me wrong.

I’m also going to try different weapons sets when I have more time this week.

I think people’s problem with PvE elementalist is they want to stick with dagger/dagger.

Currently, Staff can do nearly as much AoE and be a lot more survivable. That leads to either having more utility skills dedicated to actual support or more offensive abilities like the arcane skills and if you’re set up to use namely arcane, you don’t bother with skills that grant things for cantrips but arcane. That’s faster cooldowns, crit damage and/or vulnerability with arcane skills or attunement affects on arcane.

Then there’s the scepter. It probably won’t do as much damage as dagger mainhand, but it has utility namely in blast finishers. Whereas I can stack 10-12 stacks of might on melees with dagger, I can easily keep 25 stacks on them with scepter. Yes, those warriors think they’re so awesome because they’re doing good damage with their 10 stacks of might but when they’re teamed with me, they’ll do more damage…But that’s MY damage, not theirs. So that’s added to MY contribution of the overall DPS.

Then there’s good old focus. You don’t need cantrips with this weapon and it’s easily the weapon of choice in fights where you can’t or don’t want to be in melee range of the boss. Using a dagger in such instances is illogical when you can do better at range with a staff or keep yourself safer with a focus.

As for mesmers, I have one of those. It’s got some burst in PvE but not even close to the amount of support as Guardian or Elementalist…especially if you’re aimed for doing high damage, your best contribution is range denial, blind/confuse with glamors and perhaps sharing your boons with the team…but you don’t have all that many boons yourself (that last any reasonable amount of time) so you need a Guardian or Ele to get things rolling. There’s also condition removal but IMO, a Warrior probably has better boons and can remove more team conditions than a mesmer and he’s not even that amazing at that.

In short, stop going Dagger/dagger. Stop only using cantrips. Learn to dodge. Maybe then you won’t be so outclassed at everything.

People’s problem with elementalist is the class is over penalized in pve.

Look at health and armor for example warriors get 8k more health and 300 more armor than an elementalist.If a player needs16k health and 2100 armor to survive a one shot then an elementalist has to use toughness/vitality gear and spec into earth/water to survive.Both of these things are a huge dps loss.

Warriors on the other hand get 19k health and 2150ish armor passively.So the warrior can use full berserker gear and still have more effective health than elementalist.

That would be fine if eles brought more to the table than warriors but we currently do not.

Right now warriors smash us(and every other class) in damage while providing dps buffs or shout healing/condition removal.

If you watch the gameplay closely, he’s swapping utilities and weapons frequently, and to serve different purposes. He has a knowledge of the bosses and event mechanics, and mitigates what risk he can through smart play and knowledge. His dodges and blocks are well timed, and rarely are they unnecessary when he uses them. He knows which attacks he can soak, and which attacks he needs to avoid.

I think it’s rather funny how the devs beat around the bush with how overpowered the warrior is compared to other classes.

Robert, do you think a Ranger could solo this with the same exact knowledge that you described above? How about an Engineer? They wouldn’t make it past the first group of small spiders.
I’ve gotten all the way to the part where you’re supposed to find the scepter on my d/d ele but I didn’t have the DPS to take down the burrows in time. Yet, we’re still getting an AOE nerf next month.

Robert, c’mon, man. Stop pretending warriors are okay. They’re ridiculously above the other classes.

I’m not sure if its possible to do as a ranger but I can give you a few tips for your ele.

If you can’t kill the borrows in time go 30 fire and use power consumables.

Make sure you have 20 seconds cool down left on your frost bow before you start the event.It’s important that you do this otherwise you’ll end up trying to kill a burrow without meteor shower or frost bow.

Use signet of air and lightning flash as your utility skills.You can use glyph of lesser elemental in place if lightning flash if you want,but if you get knocked down on the 5th burrow you’ll die.

Your dps rotation on the burrows should be this

1st- frost bow 4

2st staff aoe

3rd frost bow 4(recast a frost bow,make sure you drop it so you’re in range of the 5th burrow)(also cast an earth ele near the npc)

4th staff aoe (if you’re getting trained by adds just try to get off your aoe and stand on the burrow,your aoe damage should kill an add and give you a rally)

5th frost bow 4(you may have to cast a lava front if you kill the 5th burrow too fast then pick up a frost bow)

6th staff aoe

If a breeder,scavenger, or howler comes out of the first two borrows just let them kill the npc,and recast a frost bow while you wait for him to die.

For the 5th Burrow one make sure you dodge or out-range the scavenger leap stun.

I don’t have a video of me doing it uploaded yet but I will soon .

The guy in this video did it cleaner than me so I’d just do what he does.

I agree 100% healing power gear is inferior to 100% dps,100% tank or 50/50 dps/tank gear.

Why does everyone say that healing power is bad for Elementalist?

Healing power is not as bad as people make it out to be.

I think healing power better than stacking vitality if you’re not in danger of getting one shot.

I also think its better than vitality because you do extra healing to other players.

Keyboard and the Elementalist

My keybinds are kinda like Volatility’s

Attunments are bound to 1-5
My self heal is 5
2-5 skills are bound to q,e,r,f
My 1 skill is bound to a mouse buttons
My utility skills are bound to alt+,q,e,r
My elite is bond to alt+f

Consider getting a mechanical keyboard over a gaming mouse with 5483523489 buttons on the side.In short the keys take way less force to push over a standard rubber dome keyboard.You also don’t need to push keys all the way down for a keystroke to be registered.In other words once a key is pushed halfway down the keystroke is registered.You can press as many keys as you want and it still registers all of them.

1. Attunment cooldowns are too long.We’re forced to go 30 in arcane or the class falls apart.

2.The following skills take way to long to land after you cast them dragon tooth,shatterstone,comet and eruption.I’m fine with people being able to see and dodge our skills.But the problem is you can avoid them by just walking out of the way.Players should at least have to dodge if they want to avoid our attacks.

3.Our elites are really weak.Tornado needs to do more damage and knock back more often.Our elementals need to do more damage.

4.Our downstate needs a way to stop a stomp.Every other class gets a way to stop stomps except us.If we get downed in a group fight we die unless somone stuns/knocksback the player stomping us.

I don’t think I could even tolerate playing any class without a mechanical keyboard.Rubber dome boards are just awful to use.Even the expensive gaming ones are awful to type on after using a mechanical keyboard.

I do agree that the class is fine for the most part.The only exceptions are attunment cool downs being way too long. and skills like dragon tooth,shatterstone,comet and eruption take way to long to hit.

I find that it’s harder to win duals with 30 in water instead of 30 in arcane.The atunement cool down is just too long without 30 in arcane.I used to run a build like yours but I quit using it after trying 30 points in arcane and 15 in water.

I just don’t feel like an extra 1.4k and 200 extra healing on skills is worth the 3 second lock out and loss of damage/cc.I died more to being locked out of attunments and not having blind/chill on arcane skills than I did from not having enough health/healing.I Guess it comes down to personal preference.

The air rune is pretty nuts and I’ll be using it from now on.

Its also good to know I’m not the only person struggling with mesmers I can’t figure how to beat them 1v1.Bad mesmers are no problem to beat but the good ones are pretty much impossible unless they make mistakes.
