this is my personal opinion….but i feel like the hardcore gamers want what they want right now and if they don’t have it, they throw a tantrum, which usually involves ranting here on the forums and has a collateral damaging effect on other players who read their posts.
if you’re no longer having fun…why play? this game has a rather large audience from casual mmo player to grindfest mmo player to dungeon crawler and people after ‘phat lewtz.’ anet can’t please everyone so invariably, someone will get angry. if those players don’t vibe with this game…go play something else.
i agree with this as well. the sense of entitlement some players have (i want it, therefore ArenaNet should give it to me) boggles my mind. if a player wants to make money in GW2, then said player needs to learn how the game economy works (note: there are plenty of great threads on this in the Black Lion sub-forum). it is possible to make money in this game, and it is possible to have a heck of lot of fun doing it. i am certainly not a rich player, but i’ve carved out a healthy living and have had a lot fun doing so.
i also had a blast. the boss battle was totally epic and made up for any frustrations i might have felt.
in my opinion, i would choose the mesmer. i think elementalist are VERY under-powered in this game and i am continually frustrated by just how squishy my ele is. additionally, spells and weapon sets are not that compelling or fun to play. on the other hand, the mesmer is just a heck of a lot of fun and versatile.
i would love to see an out-of-combat weapon swapping mechanic implemented. right now, switching out weapon sets just isn’t fun and there is no incentive to do so.
i also think my elementalist is way too squishy. as a result, i find myself continually frustrated with this character class.
BTW – I like Felicia Day and I think those who don’tlike her scenes should blame the director/scriptwirter.
very good point.
i think some of the ambient dialogue in cities and towns is pretty good. i especially like the children playing outside the Busted Flagon – the pew! pew! bits crack me up; some of the political conversations are also hilarious.
that said, i agree with the OP regarding the cinematic VOs. i am especially disappointed with Felicia Day, who i am a big fan of. sorry, Felicia!
i personally find the TP to be one of the more enjoyable aspects of the game – it’s a lot fun and i wouldn’t change a thing. just watching the market trends and the stories they tell is fun – for example, the price of copper ore has been in a tailspin all week. i think that says a lot about what is going on in the game. i also think i could spend most of my time in-game watching the market and crafting and never get bored.
i agree that this class needs some reworking. i was so excited to play an elementalist, but so far it has been an exercise in frustration on a number of levels:
1. low health – sometimes just one hit will reduce my health by 75% or more. how is that fun?
2. lack of variety and specialization – i typically use a staff but not all of the skills are that useful or compelling to me – but, given the other weapon choices, i think staff is the best pick. i have tried using the F keys to switch things up during combat, but it feels clunky and like i am mostly wasting my time in the process. i wish i could just pick one or two elements to focus on, and create a set of skills based on those elements.
3. armor. a minor point, but it kinda breaks my immersion knowing that my ele and mesmer wear the same types of armor. i wish armor was class specific.
i agree that out of combat weapon swapping would be great.
i think it is fair to apply a certain level of anthropomorphism to the Sylvari, especially since they have taken on many human attributes: they look human, wear human clothing, and talk in posh accents; they even farm and trade.
i am confused by what sort of housing they actually need – for that matter, i’m not exactly sure what they need to survive! there are a few pod-like structures throughout The Grove and surrounding forests that appear to be homes, but it’s not totally clear what function(s) the pods serve.
as far as The Grove is concerned, i agree that it is lacking something. i understand that the Sylvari are new to Tyria and are still finding their way in the world, but i feel the capital city should provide me with more context for who and what this race is all about. i am enjoying playing my Sylvari, but i am not sure i totally ‘get it’.
i think this is a great idea.
i would like to add to the list the amount of laughing and yawning that goes on in Divinity’s Reach – it’s everywhere, especially near the crafting station. i try to tune it out, but it can be a challenge sometimes. in particular, there is one male laughing voice (one that i find a bit annoying i might add) that loops way too much.
that said, the fact that my quibble is with laughing and yawning should tell you just how awesome i think this game is overall! thanks for an amazing game A-Net!
i would like to see taverns act more like social hubs. i think adding mini-games to taverns would be fun and one way to help draw people in. and, while only a slight change, furniture you can interact with would be great. i would love to actually sit at the tables or at the bar.
very nice, thank you. i’ll have to use my staff and other weapon sets more often. early in the game i fell into a comfortable groove of using my Greatsword and have relied heavily upon it. i love using the mind stab in combination with the phantasmal berserker – illusionary wave is also very helpful, especially when trying to confuse mobs.
i’ve been saving up for the Tier One Researcher’s set for my human mesmer. the only problem is that i’ve put so much work into farming materials and crafting to earn the money that now i don’t want to spend the money i’ve earned!
