Hard time leveling..

I finally decided to try a thief, so far I have made to level 15 with little or no issues, typically the only time I die is when I get mobbed by multiple mobs. But there are skills for pulling single mobs from groups. For most play I like using pistols, along with the Shrapnel mine and the needle trap. Played right you can kite very nicely. With the Sword/Dagger Combo you can slice and dice using shadow step type moves. Yes I have died, but no more than any other class.

I also have an engineer who is level 31 again have not really had any issues you can use a rifle and traps for kiting, healing turrets for some great healing, You can solo any class in this game you just have to figure out what play style suits and then mix and match your weapons and skills to match. Also at the low level the TP is a good place to upgrade your weapons for few coppers at this point. I recommend for Thief class to keep the DPS on the weapons high because you are more dependent on Burst damage and critical then other classes.

Unbalance between dps and support make pvp not fun.

Having played many games and having enjoyed PvP instances in many of them, I feel that GW2 PvP lacks real tangiable rewards. Rift in my opinion was one of the better models offereing both experience and rewards that are usuable outside PvP. I realize the game is still new and growing, but the PVP systems needs some love.

On that note, while this does not belong here, the Magestic HMS Bounty which was built in Lunenburg Nova Scotia Sunk off the coast of North Carolina. This ship was buil in 1960 for the Movie Mutiny on the Bounty. At this time 14 of the 16 crew members were rescued by the Coast Guard however, two members are still missing at this time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Most zones are petty small, unless there is a compelling reason to warp from place to place, I just run through the zone, generally there are opportunities to harvest various crafting materials. If you are a cook you can kill birds and worgs for meat. you can catch events that are going on. However, I do agree that the cost of warping is high, espeically the double whammy when dying, you have to pay for the warp and then pay for the repair. This is hard to swallow especially if you are participating in an event where dying can cost you 2x what you make in particpating.

Can't get past the splash screen

I was able to get past the screen once I rebooted my machine, at the time the patch ran on my machine I was also updating LOTRO, I can only assume that there were competeting resources. But updates have been an issue a number of times, but if a reboot solves it I can live with that.

This issue is a recurring issue, but after the little patch today 10/25 the game won’t go past the splash screen. I am running it as an administrator, this seems to happen now and again. The game launcher seems to stop responding, I have tried a few tricks I know, rebooting etc…. but I think what ever was in that last patch killed it.

Since the mini patch this morning 10/25/2012 the game won’t launch past the splash screen. This is the second or third time this has happened. Considering I went and updated it on the other machine which does not have the specs of my gaming machine and it loaded with no issues.

Engineer is fun, but I don’t think the survivablity and dps is as good as the Elementalist nor the Ranger. Really has todo with your play style.

GW2: not a game, but an arena in which games take place.

I would not argue that fact AlexanderFaust, I have played MMO’s since the Original release of EQ. While we change settings the games are all the same, the Narrative (Story) and the Settings (World) is what sets these games aparts. But in Reality all games draw from the same theories on how to draw players in and keep them interested in playing.

Please note my study is on what is termed Gamification which is how do we apply games to every day tasks in the workplace. Can work be more fun like if we add elements of game play to daily tasks. Much of the same elements that go into Game Design of games such as GW2 can be applied to many elements of the work place as well as Consumer marketing.

Interesting approach, but Guildwars2 is indeed by its very nature a game, here is how I described a game in my Disseration.

“a game, has branching paths to make choices going from start to finish, we make choices and move through the pathways (play) the structure is what gives us the choices and gives us the sense of freedom. The game provides the environment to make these choices, the structure and rules.”

While we are immersed in the world and yes to your point we enter the world but the world is the boundary in which we play our game. The above definition is based on the work of Jesse Schell and Kevin Werhbach. While you are correct we can experiment within the game but despite the large number of choices the basic game remains to Level your Character lvl 1 to Lvl 80. There are multiple paths we can take to get there, we can go to multiple areas, but in the end, the game takes us through what we can and can’t do by rewarding us for our efforts.

On the Negative side is Death where we are forced to go back to a spawn spot and repair costing us some copper. on the Postive side, we get coin, items, experiance points, Karma etc….. All this is provided within the structure and rules of the game.

WvW Should Be More Rewarding.

Aside from the fact that the WvWvW I tried for the first time the other day was a giant zerg fest, until the other faction amassed a force that gave us a kicking, within about 30 minute of play I had gained two levels as we strategic points. The karma was good through I do find that money is a bit of a grind, the two levels were well worth the 30 minutes. The only comment I have is the Lag in that type of place was horrible and I play on a high end gaming machine. Now granted I had not tweaked anything but there may be some optimization needed from the server side.

Can't decide wnich class to play

So far I enjoy, the ranger class, and the Elementalist, they suit my play style with Lots of DPS, the ranger seems to have good surviablity too. I tried the Necromancer for a few levels and was not impressed. For fun Engineer is a good class to play, while the DPS may not be as good as some of the other classes, there are some great kits to play with, bombs, Flame throwers, turrets etc……

I like the game just fine, as a casual player I am happy that there is plenty to do, and good experiance on just about anything you do. Through I did find WvWvW play very laggy, considering I have a high end machine I was surprised about how bad it was.

What keeps YOU playing?

I must not play enough, we are a month or more in and my highest level character is only level 32. I do have another alt that just turned 30 and a few smaller alts. I don’t understand the rush to level 80 I play maybe 10 – 15 hours a week. I suppose I would be 80 if I added up all my levels between my alts, but I like looking at the different story lines as well. I also keep my charcters in line with each other for purposes of crafting. I guess I have enough of a life that the game will contineu on for awhile yet.

I don’t find it an issue on my ranger, with a Long Bow, two Traps and a hatchet/torch secondary, AOE damage can take 4 mobs down easy while kiting.

I found the issue, GW2 will not run if I just click the icon, I have to go into the folder and right click and “Run as Administrator”. Works fine, Not sure how this happened or even how to fix it but at least I can play. If some one knows why or how to fix let me know.

Finally worked after a reboot, I have attached the file as asked. As said before GW2 works on my wife’s machine just fine. I reloaded the game the other day, and it worked basically until I rebooted it. I even played this morning for a few minutes, then I turned off my machine then it stopped working again.

This has been a problem since the last patch, my game client has started hanging and does not seem to connect to the log in server to allow me to log in. My firewall allows the website through, and it was working up until the patch.

Please help
