I’m torn between wanting generosity to stay in in some form versus how actually not useful it’s been for the past year due to power creep offering far more cover condis than generosity is able to handle.
I don’t think geomancy needs to be gutted like that, at least keep it aoe?
revelation is precisely the type of reactive counterplay the game needs to keep stealth in check. the user risks being on a different weapon set in return for vision if they know almost exactly where the enemy is anyways. stealth classes aren’t that hard to fight against when they are predictable, but they are extremely annoying because there is very little you can currently do. this allows a predicted player to be targeted, so that one can access the plethora of skills that require a target. stealth is about being unpredictable, and this will help weed out the baddies who are just abusing the fact that they can’t be targeted.

the bad thing about sd is it kittens with your skill queue. the damage is ok but it needs to be targeted according to the selected target instead of pointed by your camera when used with the myriad of targeted and player based aoes.

- perma regen from healing turret
- 66%ish protection uptime triggered on being cced
- 60%ish retal, swiftness, and fury uptime triggered by being hit while under 75% hp
- stability on successful dodge and gyro summon
- 10-20 might from autoing, short duration
soooo that’s 7 boons youll see most of the time. 4 or 5 of them don’t do a whole lot. watch for the stability and protection mainly.

This shows and proves the disconnect between the developers and the community in regards to the Engineer.

See (2) and (2a). It has been over a year and a half. There is still a sticky of beta weekend 3 on the top of this forum. It is my belief that this is evidence that this forum is dead. I would be delighted to be proved wrong.
I can personally guarantee beyond reasonable doubt that these forums get read. if you don’t care to believe me, that’s your skepticism getting the better of you.
but they don’t really respond (except with too few patch notes in an untimely manner, unfortunately), which is the kind of visible feelgood you’re looking for.

I was kicked and blocked on the first encounter when I did not understand what to do.
In point of fact, I told the group I was new coming in.. though I came with full ascended armor and weapons.
ok, i dont dispute that you did these things, however something does not add up here. since i remember you from the pvp forum, i suggest taking a critical look at yourself with some hardcore resources like metabattle.com or the quantify site or something.

neither bombs nor flame thrower are great in wvw. bombs have little use since the fuse time is too long and players are smart enough to not stand in aoes. flamethrower can see use as tagging or as a condi assassin, but suffers extremely from juggernaut being in firearms in an environment that very nearly requires 2 or 3 other specs. and power flamethrower builds have been nearly nonexistent for a long time thanks to retal.
both kits suffer in pvp for the same reasons, but at least point capture offers an area for bombs to deny.
on the other hand, hammer is also spammable direct damage in those game modes and has been pretty much the only option since it’s introduction, and you just don’t need other power things cuz hammer is better and offers better utility and more useful things to do. no one that I’m aware of is calling for nerfs to hammer 1.

sooooo the targeting is different because the shape of the aoe and the placement of the aoe are different despite the fact that you click on someone and face them when you push 1 on either kit what is the difference i do not see it dude. are you talking about the delay that bombs have? the circle vs the cone? the 2-2.5x dps that bombs get? all 3 things (lol)?
an autoattack is an autoattack. ft1 and bomb1 have more in common than not: no cd, aoe, short range. and bomb1 does as much dps as the best ps warrior, and it only does 1/2 the dps of a really good engi player.

The changes wasn’t good because they(Balance Team) stopped at half of way…
If they wants make FT condi based, they could started for the obvious, giving 1s burning to each hit of auto attack(Flame Jet)…
That increased time on last hit was… No words to describe.The second skill(Flame Blast) still ok giving burning, but the esquece attack(Detonate Flame Blast) could be explosion(obvious) and keeping dealing high direct damage.

why this is a bad idea:
having an instantly refreshing condi to cover something bigger (and make it impossible to cleanse) with a significant portion of skills (cleaning 1 condi) on an infinitely usable aoe attack with faster hits than any other cleaning skill would make it extremely difficult to ever have enough condi cleanse for many builds.
in other words, you literally walk up to someone and push 1 and they die.
its actually happened before, when leg specialist had no icd and warriors got unlimited amounts of immobilize. it isnt quite the same but its fairly close. that was certainly the week where i had the most fun ive ever had in gw2, chasing people down as a warrior and sword autoing them and they could not do anything and literally just died. and that warrior build: rare apothecary gear. not exotic, not ascended. and i could kill anyone i could get into melee range with. by autoing.
its a design nightmare

If you play pvp exclusively, what is your need for ascended armour, which is mostly useful for fractals?
If all I do is PvP, what need do I have for crafting?
Yet I have to do crafting in order to get my PvP rewards.
legendaries have always been advertised as luxury and requiring effort in all parts of the game.

wvw? well, if youre going for anything group related (3+) then youll be hard pressed to find it useful cuz it wont last more than a couple of secs on a downed person being cloven. as a stomp button its pretty much awesome in any situation though.
dont have stats sorry. it doesnt scale at all though. for sure.

rev alacrity isnt great and your raiding friends are overestimating the negative effects on mesmers. just did a fractal 100 cm with a healing rev and by the end of it the guy was pretty discouraged and frustrated. and it certainly seemed like it went smoother with him on a dps dh for 1 of the bosses. but hey thats #puglyfe. i doubt much will come out of the alacrity.
meteor shower and lightning overload had it coming and its painful but the cd things soften the blow a little. it certainly is a hard nerf.

wow you must have been gone for 3 years
for the couple months pre hot, the part of the pve meta that was fractal 50s was dominated by groups including at least 1 engi for both 5 manning and trioing. the core of those groups was a cleric guard, an engi, an ele, and whatever. we actually needed blinds back then. AND we were nearly top deeps.

Well engi’s has been the black sheep for years, before HoT they were in league with rangers and necros in tier of uselessness for PvE, the other 2 got a lot of love with the expansion, the engis did not(and so did thief’s).
Although i play all classes, It is sad it took them this long to buff my main class.

pages are useful for grinding out specific armor pieces to complete a set…. if the cost was in line with other acquisition methods (crafting). but it’s more expensive. I think it’s a good idea to keep ascended vendors using pages personally and don’t see a reason anet would change that to pristines or something, so maybe they’ll retune the vendors to something more enticing.
on the other hand, the random drops of ascended gear I’ve gotten over the past 4 years add up to me owning about 12 (or maybe 15) sets now and that’s why I generally pass on working towards a specific gear piece that takes about a week of doing an hour more of repetitive fractals… I just don’t need it. I’m sure a lot of the players who pass are in my boat, perhaps not with quite so many complete sets of gear but still feeling saturated.

the only other thing we need is top dps for top effort, you know, to (significantly) edge out other classes since were forced to kit dance for dps.
…oh and to make our might blasting rotations less vulnerable to (enemy) fields and poorly timed activation delays. as in, if you dont take short fuse (a power build wants shaped charge), you cant do BoB→orbital→firebomb and get 6 might. and thats a terrible design decision because you have 2 other skills to cast and blast while the fire field is going. it did not used to be like this pre-hot. it is one of the reasons i play engi less now, because it got harder to compress your blasts into the 3 sec fire bomb between bad programming changes and nerfs to healing turret in addition to other classes getting the ability to cap group might by autoattacking.
…sorry dont mean to complain in a thread that should be joyful. im glad we are rumored to be getting a party buff.

idk about this rifle. its fat and ungainly and grenade barrage looks really similar to predator and hope, just slightly different animation. i almost rather make quip just for its barrage as something a bit different from the glowy light fest thing.

They were terrible before, Aetherblade and Thaumanova bosses that is, it wasn’t fun at all getting bombed/pulled out of no where and had to wait forever till the golems shields ran out in Aetherblade, while it was big hp sponge and invisible projectiles + bombs 5 times in a row (on top of the chaos anomaly one sometimes) in Thaumanova.
Terrible in design? Yes!
Terrible in difficulty? No…frickin…way
Most of the changes to Thaumanova are okay but level 97 is a joke now compared to pre-patch. It’s the 4th highest fractal and no challenge any longer (Well, it wasn’t rly hard before but at least it seperated terrible players from decent ones).
And Aetherblade golems (“final boss”) were problem in pugs? Nope, not at all. This was easy soloable for an average T4 player.
lol not easily soloable for the average t4 player, easily soloable for a good t4 necro. lots of people hit the floor to those silly things. fortunately the pug community adopted the necro drool meta just so idiots can be elevated to the level of “stays alive under all circumstances” and the party doesn’t have to bash its face on the same fight more than twice.
this was a pug killer and has been since it’s release. it’s good to see brutal and unforgiving things make way for challenge motes. at least people can get their dailies done.
Haven’t had issues with pugs since months even without necros or anything special. You can easily see and dodge every golem pull if you don’t run in the center (still getting enough group buffs). In addition with defensive support skills it’s no problem to kite around with every class and avoid the laser beams.
I have more problems in this fractal with pugs in the room with the switches and the laser beams.
yeah i was referring to the fight as a whole. that includes the golems but is not limited to them. nerfing them nerfs the pug killing aspect of the fight. if you cant solo, but you can 5 man or 4 man, then it helps that your 2 weakest links arent laying around dead after being pulled through the lightning or something.
what ben ought to do here is add a real 100 nightmare type challenge mote to every fractal, even though i know thats wishful thinking. a full challenge mote daily set would really harken back to pre hot 50s.

the easiest combo will be:
blood ruby amulet (125 ruby)
blood ruby ring (100 ruby)
petrified wood earring (150 wood)
winterberry ring (200 berry)
winterberry earring (300 berry)
any of the 3 backpieces (200 ruby / 200 wood / 400 berry)
along with 20k unbound magic
it may be tempting to get 2 of the same rings, but they are unique and you will eventually want to have all 6 infusion slots available, so get different ones. the same applies to earrings, except you cant even upgrade them so just get different ones as you cant even equip 2 sparking woods or 2 black ice earrings.

water combat is fun cuz its a fully 3d environment, but skills are in a perpetual alpha state, not even beta.
Nah, even with fully fleshed out skills, 3D combat is super-hard and un-fun because the input and output devices we have really, really don’t map well to it. It’s very hard to look up and down, or move up and down, compared to looking left, right, or moving on a flat surface.
Maybe when we finally have a real VR MMO, and someone figures out a six-direction input setup on the keyboard or replaces it with some random controller, it won’t suck, but until then…
Anyway, a much better thing would be to get 2D combat in an underwater environment. Do that, and you get combat that matches reasonably well to the controls available to players.
I’d, uh, probably expect to see much sadness around combat if you stuck with the underwater weapons we have, though. They play sufficiently differently, and are sufficiently unpracticed by most players, that they wouldn’t be “fun” compared to the land skills…
indeed, the gw2 camera design is a huge issue for a fully 3d environment too. but controlling the camera isn’t part of that. you simply need to add strafe up and down as keybinds, potentially replacing the turn keybinds as a compact default… so qwe asd for all movement, with mouse to look. you have to develop muscle memory to parse up and down movement quickly, but it’s not really more complex than the current controls, especially for key turners who haven’t figured out mouse looking yet (which is a too significant segment of the gw2 population).
but the camera would have to change and anet aint touching that.

the titles of all 5 seasons are compromised in some way or other. in seasons 1-4, its cuz the title was a grind when it was intended to be for skill. in season 5, its decay abuse.
maybe season 6 will finally be meaningful.

Its more of jumping puzzle, boss, puzzle stair, boss, jumping puzzle, boss.
If they removed all the annoying jumping puzzle with harpy that its just annoying nobody fail at it, it would be more in line with the others fractal.the jumps are possible with cripple

You just have to ask yourself this one question:
How many of the top 250 did it only by solo q, and of those how many are top 25, 50, or 100?
It’s a tell tale sign when pro players HAVE to duo q to even maintain a high MMR.
you just have to ask yourself how much lower these. people would be without duoing and how much higher the solos would be with it, and maybe a few ranks might shuffle a bit but by and large the top 250 isn’t going to change a whole lot and it’s unfair to arbitrarly strip people of the effort they put into being a stronger team player in a team based game mode.

only a problem at the high end where matchmaking cant reasonably account for the extra strength gained from duoing.
the people whining that it needs to go are the people who are overinvested in watching their rating, to the point that theyll rage at anything within reach about mistakes and losses.
