Aw thanks! (i still have problems with charr tho /flips charr)

If you draw this guy, in a kitten action pose, weilding Sunrise, i’ll a) treasure it and make it my desktop and bg and b) ink and colour it and repost here! Or, dual weilding his trusty sword and Faithful axe (Screenie 2).

Regards,

Riffian

I’m going to come back to this sketch later, so it’s a WIP – it’s 3:45 AM and I should probably sleep fff.

Edit: Oh yeah, this pose was partially referenced. I searched google images for “greatsword stance”, saw something I liked and tried a similar pose – it’s probably still totally incorrect though. /o\

OK so for Sunrise I shamelessly traced over an in-game model for contours because jesus sword aren’t you fancy. He’s also not quite holding it properly because only after I made his hands I realized they should’ve been positioned differently but I got… lazy…

It’s probably not good enough to be a desktop picture but I had fun with it anyway!

This is my charr Gromlaw Blazehide. Be free with doing whatever you want with him! haha would just like to see what you can do with him (i know you mentioned that you’re not a fan of charr anatomy), but if you got time then take a shot at it!

This was supposed to be an attempt at a charr chibi, but then it turned into… i don’t know. Your evil plan to make me suffer has succeeded. I hope you’re happy. Here is a vial of my tears and blood for you to keep as a souvenir.

I like you. I like you a lot, please stay long time.

Here is my Guild Wars relic, Albacus Uruz. Originally an Assassin/Elementalist, dual dagger Ele is just perfect. He’s how I plan for him to be Soon™ once I’ve run enough explorables, the idea being he’s a Noble who likes to get his hands dirty with exploding knives. Feel free to try something acrobatic or dangerous ^^

Maybe he ought to rethink exploding knives. Just sayin’.

heya! here’s my Asura elementalist. he’s small and angry most of the time, but i’ll let you go wild on him and apply any style of drawing that you feel needs more attention

thanks for doing this ^^

Tackling this first since MaideN sent me a PM before anyone commented here, but I couldn’t open the images and asked them to comment with them – so they asked before other people in spite of posting after.

Anyway I took some artistic liberties with this sketchy depiction of your elementalist. He didn’t seem very pleased.

Hello good sir, I have a Norn engineer who wishes to look bad*ss with his flamethrower. If you could draw like this, I would be extremely grateful. The twist? Make him chibi. Thanks!

This is the bad***est, kawaiiest Norn engineer. If you disagree, you’re in for burning.

(I somehow skipped over the part where he was supposed to have a bad*** pose. Sorry about that.)

Thanks! There are probably some errors because I’m doing these without any references (to try and force myself out of the “people standing around” comfort zone). But it’s fun to make.

Oooh… I’d love to see what you can do with my Asura, Aethariel. Also known as ‘Sneak’ as she’s a sneaky little so-and-so. Enjoys her work as a spy. Her large eyes and innocent expression help with the ‘innocent’ look she’s trying to cultivate. When working she’s never without her hooded outfit to try and conceal her identity, or at least a mask.

As an elementalalist she mostly works with fire, but also air to enable those lightning teleports to get her out of danger. She’s also been known to turn in to animals, and on occasion, furniture. She either wields an asuran staff, or a pair of wicked daggers, in combat.

She’s also been known to hover mysteriously over the ground while wielding invisible daggers and producing lousy fire effects underneath. That takes skill!

…OK so Asura aren’t as painful as Charr but gosh I am just so used to humans. I totally didn’t know what the daggers looked like, so they are a blank space. I know, I know. Trying to think of dynamic poses for Asura is hard because they’re very small, but I managed something! Something that doesn’t make any sense, but something.

Look at him. He’s plotting something. Probably ways to drive me insane wondering how to draw Charr. That’s your plan, I know this. You cannot fool me.

(I’ll probably give it a shot anyway! Taking a break for now, and hoping the Asura will treat me more nicely than Charr.)

Thank you for the speedy picture! I’ll put it somewhere above the fireplace
If I may be so bold, would you frown upon me asking another request for a more human character?

I would frown upon you with the fury of a thousand suns… flamethrowers? Anyway it’d be a very hot fury.

Actually no, I wouldn’t! Go right ahead.

Sorry the Charr pictures aren’t very dynamic I’m just like HOW DO I CATS.

Otherwise I am glad you guys like my silly sketches! Thanks for helping me practice with prompts.

Edit: Also mister Runt sir please teach me the ways of scoring flamethrower hits because it is a mystery to me

slooowly leans in Oh, hello there awesome person, don’t mind if I leave this here~

BEHOLD! Runt Hack, the flamethrower wielding, goggle wearing, indecently grinning mad scientist Charr!

He likes long rockets on the beach (Darn Orrian ships!), gratuitous exposions under a starry sky and fire. Feel free to experiment with an action pose, the crazier and more explosion/flamethrowery the better ^^ Thanks for the thread!

OK so regrettably I don’t know Charr anatomy well enough to pull off proper crazy poses with them, so I made up for it by making it quite flamethrowery.

If I had to justify the flamethrower’s absurd position I’d say that’s how after much experimenting he finally got the kitten thing to hit something.

Which means that’s actually his HAHAHAHA HOLY $@%# I ACTUALLY SCORED A HIT YEAHHHHH LOOK AT ME MA I’M HITTING THINGS face.

Edit: Out of town soon, busy and can’t draw these! Sorry!

Hi.

I draw things sometimes. Like quaggans with love letters.

I just got my tablet back up and running after a long period without it. I’m rusty. I’m taking character art requests to get rid of all this rust.

I can draw in a variety of styles including extremely kawaii animu. But for the most part you’ll probably get something like the attached doodle of my Mesmer wearing Masquerade armor that I didn’t actually remember the look of, which is a cross between animu and… uh, something. I got lazy from the knees down. Or up, as it were.

I can’t promise to draw every request if I get too many (I can dream! leave me to my delusions), but I’ll probably try to get to them in order.

If you want it in a more animu-y style than the attachment, let me know. I can do most things from sparkly bishounen (warning: naked ~bishie~. worksafe though) to chibis with enormous heads.

I’ll also probably put your character in a ridiculous pose because I like practicing poses, and I may or may not intentionally misinterpret your request. Please request at your own discretion.

I’m going to sleep now because it’s 9 AM (what am I doing) but I’ll get to these when I wake up. Er, provided that there are any.

Please give me a reference of your character (an in-game screenshot works) and any other instructions for specifics you may have.

Art is copyrighted to me. You can do whatever you want with it except use it for commercial purposes or pretend you made it. Credit’s nice.

Good night…

As a fellow collector and someone who rolls eyes at the “lol but it’s a lottery” arguments: give up the goal of collecting all the minis.

It’s what I did, well before Wintersday was over. The moment I accepted the fact that there would be RNG/cash-based account bound minis was the moment I gave up on the collection. If I can’t trade my extras away or buy the extras off of someone else, it’s not much of a collection at all, and it’s not worth the trouble.

I agree that it is very needed. However, I expected them to make the core of their game stronger during release and shortly after it. Not however many months it’s been since.

Unfortunately there’s no way to go back and make the core stronger when the game was brand new, so better late than never.

We already have PvP-exclusive daily & monthly achievements, why not WvW-exclusive ones? I’m sure the dedicated WvWers don’t appreciate having to PvE for their monthlies (fractals) and the dedicated PvErs don’t appreciate having to WvW for theirs (invader kills). Plus, an extra category for WvW may attract more people to it in low population servers, give people an extra reason to go to it daily instead of a couple of hours per month for 50 kills.

Well, I have to update my last post. I finally managed to complete the jump puzzle. I’m a 64 year-old lady (I know .. how many grandmas play mmos); I was bound and determined to keep trying. So I practiced every day for an hour or so. I read tips, watched videos, and asked for help from other players. It all paid off. Truly, if I can do it, then there’s hope for everyone. If you really want to finish it, just keep practicing. Good luck!! =)

This is just about the coolest thing I’ve ever read on these forums. You keep on rockin’, ma’am.

As for myself – while Clock Tower was available I was suffering the reflex-slowing effects of a certain autoimmune disease and had a lower end graphics card, so I really suffered through it. Took me 12 hours to be able to get it – after that, it’d still take me several tries each time, but I could finish it across all my alts.

Now my symptoms have improved and my reflexes are returning. I also got a new graphics card that can run this game on max settings with ~40fps (any better cards would be wayyyy too expensive where I live). The practice I got from CT and my improved reflexes/rig did the trick, and it took me 4 tries to do WW. I can do it with a fair amount of consistency since and have gotten the chest daily.

Phase Retreat + Crystal Prison (Shatterer)

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: neon.4863

neon.4863

It’s a minor thing, but just happened to me: during the Shatterer fight, while in a crystal prison, mesmers can still use Phase Retreat. However, this causes them to get completely stuck in place and unable to use skills (the skills appear normally in the skill bar, but don’t trigger) even after the prison’s been destroyed.

This was fortunately quickly solved by being knocked away by the Shatterer, so it’s not too major. It’s also easily avoidable just by not using Phase Retreat at all while in a prison.

Best class for a solo player?

I play all 8 classes and Warrior is easily the one that can tear through PvE with the least effort/thought put into it.

Every class can be used to solo, but for easy mindless tearing through things, go Warrior. Warrior is very bad at healing and getting rid of conditions but can tear through groups before healing becomes an issue, usually.

Teleport Hack in Jumping Puzzle

in Wintersday

Posted by: neon.4863

neon.4863

Sometimes I think things must look different from other people’s screens. Two days into the puzzle I hadn’t made it into the box yet, but while jumping someone accused me of using a portal hack. They said it looked like to them I was disappearing without jumping or falling.

In general map chat they told everyone to report me, to which I immediately responded with a ‘hey, I’m here and a real person!’ They still didn’t believe me. I don’t mind if they reported me, since it wasn’t until two hours later that I actually made the box & got the prize for the first time. I’m sure anet would be able to check and see that I’ve only opened the chest once (didn’t try again after I finally got it!)

Still, it was a little disconcerting to be accused of hacking/botting/farming when really I’d been putting in a lot of effort into beating that kitteny puzzle! (not a great jumper, but persistent!)

I’ve seen that happen before, usually when someone is lagging (you or the other player). The client seems to use a movement approximation (or halt movement) when data isn’t received and then when you finally get an update on your/other people’s position it’ll look like they suddenly zapped elsewhere. This happened a lot with a friend who plays from Japan and has high ping – her character looks smooth for her, but for me she just kept hopping around the screen. One extreme case for her was when her client said she’d managed to swim all the way to an island but she was actually dead in the water and only saw this like 30 seconds after the fact.

Massively: Where Guild Wars 2 Goes Wrong

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: neon.4863

neon.4863

I didn’t read all the comments here (or in the article), and I haven’t MMO’d seriously since Ragnarok Online.

That said, the point I agree with the most is the point re: storytelling. I don’t think voice acting is to blame for it, because there are plenty of games with downright awful voice acting that still do a good job at telling a story.

But the story in GW2 definitely did feel lackluster and I do feel more immersed when outside of my personal story than while in it. I think the game could use small expansions with bonus storylets and the like, but that’s because I’m a lover of story in games.

The dialogue is also extremely cheesy at times, especially as far as Destiny’s Edge is concerned. I cringe at the text every time I do a dungeon’s story mode. That said I feel like the random NPC banter is often more well-written than the actual story dialogue. Random Asura have made me giggle more than once, and little things like the Asuran kid running around in Halloween talking about having devised a rigorous strategic plan to ensure maximum candy procurement make me smile.

I don’t feel like crafting is problematic, and I actually enjoy discovering recipes in the cooking branch (which is the only branch where OP’s concerns apply), but I do feel like it’d help if they could at least let us know what some of the missing ingredients are. I have to wiki ingredients to find recipes often.

I never had any issue with area progression. I just look at the map and scout for the nearest area for my level. I’ve also never gone above level 14 after being 100% done with a starter area, so I don’t think OP’s comment about having no incentive to move on is accurate. I also never actually got karma vendor stuff, though.

I actually enjoy having to figure out strategies and builds. It may be tough needing to figure out a group strategy with total strangers, but when playing with people you know and whose builds you’re familiar with grouping can be pretty smooth.

And to me DEs have always just been a thing you jump into to finish your dailies or get some extra exp before you move on to explore the next area. :V

Admit it you want anet to hand you everything so you don’t have to do anything

By your logic, paying for things isn’t doing anything, which means… you didn’t do anything to get the minis, either, so you shouldn’t have a problem with this.

See where the problem with that logic is?

Spending money/gold/gems is doing something to get things – I mean, that’s how you got the minis. You just don’t want other people getting them for less than what you had to spend. Which is a completely valid way to feel (although the RNG method invariably means some people will have paid less than you for the same amount of minis), and I agree that the only solution that wouldn’t cause too much backlash would be remove the account bound factor. That way people could still spend money – via gems to gold conversion – on them.

While your intent was helpful, he was being sarcastic. He recognizes he got value out of something at the time of purchase and that utility was unaffected by the decrease in price at a later date.

That and he means the DD upgrade for people who already have the game is 1600 gems in the gem store right now.

I would love to see some of the people posting in here to go into a Las Vegas casino or a carnival booth and complain about how they are being taken advantage of like they are doing to ANet in this thread. You know you are gambling when you spend your money on any chest item in the shop or game. When you gamble, you can lose. If you don’t want to lose, don’t gamble and when you lose, don’t whine about it.

In a casino, you gamble money to win money. There are a myriad of ways to make money that aren’t gamble in a casino.

Here, we’re not gambling gems to win gems. We’re gambling gems to win items that can only be gotten via gambling (account bound minis).

The complaint isn’t so much about the gamble itself (though I dislike it regardless) but the fact that if you want these minis you have to gamble. Don’t make them account bound and you solve the problem – you could gamble, or you could buy them from people who already gambled and not need to take your chances.

Again, I have the achievement, I don’t feel slighted. The fact other people will get it with less effort does not negate the work I had to do to get it. It’s an achievement, not a reward that has any impact on gameplay, and the whole point of an achievement is to acknowledge your effort – once your effort’s been acknowledged, why does it matter if the requirements for the achievement are made easier? You still got it the old way. The sense of having achieved it isn’t lost.

I got it the “old” way and I don’t want anything extra from it.

It does need a change because as it is there is no point to sticking around in instances that have already lost yaks. Getting the achievement, if you’re unlucky, is just instance hopping after instance hopping until you find one with all 5 yaks, and then hoping the group you’re with is coordinated/willing to listen. It’s easy once you’ve found the ideal conditions – good, coordinated group.

The Toypocalypse Event Thread (w/Guide)

in Wintersday

Posted by: neon.4863

neon.4863

Toypocalypse was a load of fun after I got a group that was able to pull it off. It wasn’t hard to get the achievement once our group got going, either.

It wasn’t very fun instance-hopping 23 times to get there, though.

I feel like being able to team up with your party or guildies should’ve been part of the design of the event. It’s understandable for Snowball Mayhem since it’s a PvP activity and it’s not a problem for Bell Choir (though it’d have been nice anyway) since it’s a solo activity, but this is a coordinated team effort – not unlike a dungeon – and while the ability to PuG should be there, so should the ability to play it with your friends.

I feel like the reward for completing it with all yaks alive (besides the achievement) was underwhelming. If ANet is going to make the achievement easier, perhaps increasing the number of gifts you get for each dolyak alive would keep things interesting? Also, I feel like points shouldn’t be awarded for just weapon kills – building siege should give points and recruiting skritt mercenaries should, too. That way even as people compete against each other they’re still helping each other get things done and making good use of everything around the map.

Lastly perhaps the big present should spawn closer to the yaks or be delivered automatically whenever the gift was opened – as it was anyone who was actually helping (building siege, for instance) couldn’t help themselves to the gifts, which seems odd.

tl;dr I had fun when I got a coordinated group but I feel like this was the poorest Wintersday activity in terms of planning.

Toypocalypse (Can't join as a party)

in Wintersday

What I don’t get is why don’t people stick around, since it restarts right then and there when it fails? It refers to my patience line earlier. The 2 that i failed from my earlier example, was cause of people starting to learn it, but by sticking around, you understand how to do things. This is by no means an excuse for what’s put in place, but to me some have to learn how to adapt to current situations, send note to devs, and work around for that moment.

Oh I can answer that one – it’s because the achievement is for keeping 5 yaks alive that I didn’t stick around whenever a yak died. I wanted the achievement, not completion, and less than 5 yaks alive wouldn’t give me what I wanted, so I instance-hopped whenever a yak went down.

To put this into perspective, these take about 30-50 minutes a run depending on your group. I instance-hopped 23 times total until I finally got a group that did it. If I had stuck around that’d take me anywhere from half a day to a whole day. I indeed don’t have that kind of patience.

Neon you didn’t get unlucky, I’ve tried about double you and I’ve still haven’t found a good group.

Ouch. Good luck finding one… I have to agree that it’s not hard when you find a group that knows what they’re doing or a group that doesn’t but is willing to listen/learn. The group I did it with had actually just lost all yaks in the very first round – all I had to do was go in and tell people to build siege and it went smoothly from there. They were curious about things, too – like how many times you could upgrade siege, whether that made it better or just repaired and so forth. We only got about 200 points total so none of us really cared about points, which helped.

Little survey about the new minipets.

Toypocalypse Achievement in a PuG is difficult

It’s not too hard if you get lucky with your group, but if you don’t, then yeah, it is. I landed a good group on my 6th try (23rd if you count the times I joined groups that had already lost dollies). And I did quit every time we lost a yak, which honestly, is poor sportsmanship, but I didn’t want to play until the end when it takes 30-50 minutes and I wouldn’t get the achievement.

I agree with ANet’s decision to make the achievement “easy mode” because it addresses the issue of group-hopping until you find a group with the 5 yaks still alive. Particularly because they’ve stated they aren’t able to make it so you can go with a party or your guildies (which would’ve been the preferred solution).

But yes, it is possible to get a “stupid team” more than once or twice in a row. Maybe I just got really unlucky finding a coordinated team though.

To clarify one thing: I think the solution should be allow people to team up with friends/guildies if they want, not make the achievement easier. But since the first option isn’t possible, making the achievement easier is the most accessible solution.

I do believe it is important to voice concerns about things like this – next time around they’ll probably make it possible to join with friends instead of make achievements easier.

After 23 tries I landed a group that managed to pull it off – good communication, good teamwork.

I don’t know if I’m just unlucky, but 23 tries to just find a coordinated group that hasn’t lost any yaks isn’t really fun – it was just a lot of hopping in and out and in and out and in and out.

That said I got the achievement the hard way and I would not mind it if people got it easier than I did.

The event is pretty recent, and people act as if everyone is going to understand it straight off the back.

Out of the 5 runs i did, only the first 2 was failed, but after the 3rd+ run we started keeping all 5 alive, even pulling one off almost solo.

The problem i’m seeing with people on here is lack of patience nor teaching. I get that people are disappointed that they can’t run with their friends and that’s fine. What gets me is people shutting out the idea to run with random people.

It’s slightly annoying seeing people blame other things than themselves for some stuff.

I’ve attempted this 20 times now. 16 times a yak had already been lost, so they don’t count.

4 other times:

2 groups lost a yak before the first round was over. One refused to build siege, the other had a yak at 1/10 health before all 5 of us were at center.

1 group lost a yak before the end of round 4, though it was fairly organized, 2 people disconnected and we got 2 subs who didn’t really know what was going on.

last group (after spending half an hour there) lost a yak to Toxx not because the two of us who knew what we were doing wouldn’t teach – we repeatedly told people what to do. We constantly told people to please snipe Toxx away from the yaks. They didn’t listen and Toxx took down a yak even though we had all 5 almost at full health. This was round 5.

So no, it’s not always that we don’t want to teach – it’s sometimes people just don’t want to listen.

It won’t be deleted, just the requirements adjusted. If you already have it you’ll more than likely keep it.

Every single time people complain en masse that something’s too difficult to be fun someone has to come in and say “oh come on it’s so easy I did it in x tries”. That’s nice that you did, but the same doesn’t necessarily hold true for everyone else.

I gave this another try and kept landing in groups with less than 5 yaks alive. I also have lag making my usefulness nearly zero – everything takes 1-2 seconds to register.

The current system is just encouraging people to game hop until they find a game that’s nearly done with 5 yaks still alive. I approve of the change in the achievement because it negates this issue – and those who already got it will still have gotten it when it was hard. Things being made easier after you complete them don’t negate your skill.

I know it won’t be deleted, and believe me I’m not saying this was easy or anything less then incredibly frustrating depending on group. It took me a good while to get this achievement and a lot of frustrating groups, which is why I would like the achievement with “all dolyaks alive” to stay and another achievement with “at least one dolyak alive” to be added to the list. I think everybody wins then, and it’s 1 extra achievement to use to get the Apprentice Toymaker title. I dunno, I just want everybody to win but would like to keep an achievement that I spent a few hours doing when in reality I could’ve waited a few days and done it in < 30 minutes after the adjustment.

Not really, since that’d still make the achievement for 5 yaks a pain to obtain. You do keep the achievement, you do keep the fact you did it while it was hard. It won’t make your achievement any less impressive if it’s made easier to obtain.

I’m still trying and still having problems to even find a game where the yaks aren’t all half dead already. The one game I found, people didn’t rebuild siege and a yak went down by round 3. Some people get lucky and find competent PUGs, but I’m finding that incredibly difficult (and frustrating) on my end.

The problem is the fact the difficulty lies almost entirely with the fact you’re in a random group instead of an organized one. That’s not difficulty, that’s just poor design.

Edit:

Games joined: 15
Games with 5 yaks alive: 3
Games that lost a yak before round 1 was over: 2
Games that lost a yak before round 4 was over: 1

Like Snowball Mayhem and the Bell Choior, the Toypocalypse is an activity. They are using the same systems, and these systems do not permit joining by party. Unfortunately due to technical limitations and time constraints before the holidays, we cannot change it. We understand that this is not ideal for people who wish to play in the same party and who are finding it difficult in random groups. We will be adjusting the “Toypocalypse Cancelled” achievement so that you will need to keep only one gift dolyak alive. We do not have an ETA on when this change will be live. Thank you for your feedback. We have been listening, and we will take your comments on board for future game updates.

Why not just add another achievement for completing it with at least one alive that way those of us who spent a lot of time and frustration getting the achievement for all 5 alive don’t have it deleted?
