ok new computer so i can give some imput. I just bought a new acer laptop with the following specs:
i5-3210M (2.5-3.1ghz)
nVidia 630m
8gig ram

so far, on low settings (which looks horrible!) I can run around 50-70fps
on mid around 30-40+
on high, 20+-30+

so far, even on 24/25 fps, the game will run smooth (just not as fluid as 60fps). However, my vid card fan seems to increase fan speed more in high, and a few times in mid, hardly in low. I think this is normal though the paranoid me is worried if it’ll fry the vidcard/laptop faster o.o

somewhat, but not really, you’ll just be wasting those prec stat imo. I’m just saying its a bit justifiable how some stat combos might be a bit harder to get than others, but it’s alright given how power is the dominant stat here. (if it was power/vit/tough with tough being the dominant stat, I would call OP on that).

but i guess for tanking purposes, i would stick to emerald accessories (not pendant! too expensive imo) for tanking purposes. I have yet to acquire myself a set of power/tough/vit so i can’t comment on its effectiveness.

I think this is why you “can” buy gift of something at TP. I saw one gift of entertainment on spidey selling for 36g, which isn’t too bad if you can’t be bothered farming all those ores etc.

I spent around 3 days farming for my exotic jewelries (ok not farming but saving up ectos/emerald orbs/ori ores) and another 4 days of a bit of farming for my armors. It’s not the easiest thing in the world, nor is it the hardest. it’s… doable. Esp when you can get around 1g-ish at every orr run (i don’t mean karma farming, just running around CE/Malchor/straits doing DEs left and right whenever possible), its really not SUPER DUPER hard.

oh! pendant! sorry my bad :P yes that’s the one that costs 250 gold ingots and some other stuff. =P

they did say while most of the stats will be the same, the stat combo will be a bit diff. So i’m guessing this stat combo is a bit “special” in that it takes 2 stats that are meant for tanking and put them together. Although, I have yet to personally witness the effectiveness of this stat combo versus the power/prec/tough where toughness is much much more than the toughness in this stat combo.

I want that feeling you guys got in skyrim in this game! but the feel is overall diff so i dont think it’ll be implemented. however, I’m all for better animal AIs =P One suggestion I can make, is say you’re walking into a forest, you suddenly hear the wolf howl, the out of nowhere a wolf comes in and attacks you. :P or you see moa eggs in a nest. if you wander too closely, a moa will come and fight you. =P

with more information and guides on how to get legendaries, more people will feel it will be “easier” to get (with help of, say, the karma farming guide in orr), which will drive up the prices. When people start losing interest in them (after, say a number of people have gotten them, where they aren’t “that special” anymore), then we can probably see their prices dropping back.

there are easier ways of getting 500 badges, namely doing the jumping puzzles daily, on all 5 chars. Ofc it becomes more difficult if the server you are in little wvw presence. I heard you get 5 badges per jumping puzzle per char, so with 3 puzzles that’s 15, then with all 5 chars that’s 75 you can get potentially in 1 day. with that in mind, you only need to spend 6.6 days (ok 7 :P) to get to 500 badges so its really not so bad imo.

there’s the emerald amulet which has the power/tough/vit stat. im pretty sure there’s also an emerald ring/earring, it’s just that no one has discovered the recipe to them yet.

I just really want to see some screens of Quip in-game with its particle effects. If it shoots out bubbles like the toy gun, I would so grind to get that

ok this is rather a bit ridiculous :| but i will +1 the comment that husbands need to be nerfed. :P

if i ever do decide to get a legendary, I’ll be a bit glad the weapon I want is the weapon no one wants (pistol aka flowergun). alot of the other stuff look really cool (except the bows, I feel sorry for them as well) so the price isn’t as outrageous as dusk.

I always thought with games like this, graphics card is the most important aspect, much more than processing power and ram. (though ofc they would have effects on your gameplay).

Also, I heard having SLIs aren’t that good yet because some games aren’t able to utilize having 2 GPUs (maybe this is one of those games) so a single GPU is just as good/better in some cases versus 2.

In any case, the machine I was running on before this one was a macbook 2009 (yes sigh). It had the 9400m nvidia card, and it ran horribly. I could get up to 25-27fps on medium on a good day. on a bad day, 7-8fps on low setting. I’m still downloading gw2 now so I’ll comment about it when I can get it up and running. still at 38% tho :P

guild on guild I like. even if my guild probably wouldn’t be very competitive, I would still like to see some a-bit-larger-than-spvp-but-waay-smaller-than-wvw player vs player action. maybe 2 teams fo 5v5 so at max you’ll need 10 players :P

actually its said you might need close to a million karma points to adjust for the RNG clover boss thing.

wow that certainly is… innovative o.o but… for exp? why?? in this game, its so easy to hit lvl 80 =/ that’s one thing im never gonna get, paying another player for him to enjoy the game for you =/ imo the leveling process is much more enjoyable than life after lvl 80.

oh! traits! I thought you literally had only 15 power on you at lvl 62 o.o

anyways, imo it’s better to focus on one or two trait lines unless you have excess trait points. if you want dmg, go with power/prec trait line. You should know, a large part of stats you get also comes from the gear you have, so if you accumulate the stuff with the same stats and the stat you’re traiting, you’ll be overall more effective.

Turrets… take some time getting used to. They really are squishy (except for thumper turret), but imo one should never be a “turret engineer”. And ideal is to carry just 1 turret of your choice, and use other skills or elixers, so the turret can grab an extra aggro, hold mobs in place (probably my next favorite turret next to thumper), or just add extra damage.

personally, you get huge damage from bombs and grenades, so maybe you wanna look into that.

make legendaries! or those ridiculous Mystic forge recipe items that require 250 ectos and some other shennanigans.

ok while in hindsight this event might not be as “difficult” as others (like dungeons), they’re still relatively hard to their target market – newbies. If this happened at the reactor event at the volcano thingy, I’m all for it (I think it does happen, but there’s no bottleneck there). But here, the people doing them are probably completely new to the speed and level of gameplay required to kill this boss.

bring out the silver-ringed mobs! that’ll stop those pesky botters seriously, i would LOVE to see those silver-ringed mobs you see in dungeons in world events. Like there should be a threshold: prior to 50 people, you just get more mobs the more people come it at a predetermined rate/bracket, >50, the numbers dwindle back to the original number, but they’re silver-ringed, so they’re harder to kill. ofc it would disincentivize more people from joining as it’ll be tougher and there’ll be less loot, so maybe you can up the droprate on these open-world monsters? :P

oh my shy, you’re gonna have a hard time at the 45-55 norn area then. =( One of the vista has a jumping puzzle built in it that you have to do to get it (technically, the puzzle is the last, the vista is the second to the last step).

I really don’t mind jumping puzzles, but when jumping puzzles are necessary to reach a vista or a skillpoint (the mage’s tower at straits, i’m looking at you ferociously), it just grinds my gears.

and being in a country where youtube is blocked, you can guess how i manage to do them

damage reflected is based on how much damage he did or a set amount? Also how much damage is reduced? like what %?

so if i have retaliation, and someone attacks me, do i get damaged as well as him, or only him?

also, about confusion, does the other person/mob’s attack need to hit to activate confusion, or just the attack themselves (whether or not he was blinded/you’re able to dodge) will trigger the confusion thing?

weird as it may seem, i use the basic salvage kit for discarded garments or other cloth salvageable things, and i seem to get the same if not more gossamer outcomes than wiht the mystic salvage kit o.o

I still love using bombs and grenades underwater. tbh i play it sorta same underwater and on land with bombs. grab a bunch of mobs, then start spamming bombs while moving in a sorta-big circle. what i HATE is the bug that sometimes, you’re hitting a mob underwater, then he’ll stop attacking you, become invulnerable, go away (so you think it’s over), then suddenly come back =/

simply put, would you pump/focus on one particular stat, or put a few points on other aspects? (say full-on glass cannon/tanky-tank or put a bit of tough/vit/power/prec on them) and when i say “put a bit” it’s not merely the other stat that comes with that combo (like power/condi/vit, vit being the add-on or power/prec/tough, power/prec being the add-on). I mean like saying you have a full power//prec/tough accessory set, but a few pieces of your armor are power/tough/vit and you have the emerald amulet, and the power/tough/vit weapon.

I did some DE in wayfarer hills at lvl 80, and at first I felt I was taking the fun and challenge out of them. But eventually, a champion mob came and me being arrogant and all, decided to tank. needless to say, I died x2 or x3

why do swords get all the fun? no love for rifles/scepters/maces/hammers/pistols/shields? =( ok serious question, would a particular item have a similar skin-counterpart on a diff weapon? I know for some items like foci they don’t, but say this jormag thing, is there a jormag rifle, jormag axe, jormag mace, etc?

I just didn’t like the whole “lets invade orr” part. I mean, I get it that somehow we have to retake orr and kill zhaitan, but… trahearne? cmon -.- he’s the most flat and most boring character i’ve ever encountered. Even if I somewhat dislike Destiny’s Edge coz of their whinning (esp Logan, but except Rytlock), I find them more compelling than the Trahearne. I felt like HE was the main character, and I was just an overglorified assistant. :|

wait, so that’s the norm for all windows laptops? o.O I kinda find that hard to believe. Maybe I’ve just been buying the wrong laptop/desktop to use (last laptop we had was a lenovo, i forgot the model. pretty old but my macbook is still older i think). But I’m inclined to believe that there are a few notebooks out there that can last just as long as a normal mac would, and still retain good functionality.

um… to be honest I don’t have alot of money on me. I can probably save up some cash and sell a few magic cards to make up for it. I’m looking at the website and I might be able to get the $799 15" (i forgot the model) and add in a 750gb 7200rm hdd. imo at around $850 it’s not so bad for the specs. I just don’t know if it’ll be the same with my other previous laptops where after a year or so, they start to function terribly.

Tell me about it. I’m gonna embark on a journey (if you will) to gather 250 globs of ecto as 1 part a recipe i don’t know what will yield. I want to try to make a nice-looking pistol, and I checked awhile ago and it said something about 1 scroll, 30 coins, 250 globs of ecto and either 250 ori pistol barrel or 250 ancient pistol something. This is a dilema a bit because while the 250 ectos is unchangeable, the 250 ori will be significantly more expensive than the 250 ancient pistol thingy. I guess part of the fun is not knowing what skin will come out, and seeing as i’m putting it on an asura, it’ll look rather tiny o.o but what the hell, it’ll keep me busy for a few months

I’m currently eyeing one of the 15.6" laptops and I wanna know if some have it and your issues if any with it. I’m looking to buy a new laptop to play gw (coz playing gw on a 2009 macbook white is just… horrible. and macs are overpriced in general).

The other alternative would be for me to buy a desktop, but I’m in shanghai atm and idk if I can find a decent-priced one or if they might have the stocks I want.

Anyways, back on topic, is this a good gaming laptop? any issues with it? I’m particularly eyeing this because I saw they have a retail store here in Shanghai so I might check them out after the holidays are over.

It only appears slow because of the bigger size, and asurans might seem pretty quick coz of their small size. But try entering a running contest, you’ll find out all races are the same. They even have the same footing size (area where you can stand), and i reckon they had to do this (even if it seems my asura is hanging by a pinky toe) to be fair in jumping puzzles. The only diff it would seem si the vantage point at some angles.

I salvaged a white using the most basic kit and was surprised to see gossamer, albeit 1. I don’t salvage armor often, mostly just salvage kits, and I kinda agree the rate when using the Master (I use mystic) kit is rather low. I’m running out of them now and I don’t wanna convert my gold into gems to make, so I’ll probably run around with two kits, one master and one cheapo.

ooooh! oh yea i experienced htis! I was fighting some mobs so I thought it was over, but yea, I was only able to harvest x2.

ac can be done in like 30min (except for the burrow defending 2 nodes part. that part is always tricky).

We all know about the recipe that involves 1 eldritch scroll, 50 mystic coins, 250 orichalcum sword blades and 50 molten lodestone. I was wondering, if I changed the orichalcum sword blades into the counterpart of another weapon, say pistol barrel, would a similar weapon yield result? I’m really impressed by those flaming greatswords I see all around and would like a similar particle effect, but on my pistol (engineer here :|)

The thing is, 250 orichalcum pistol barrels is no easy task. That’s roughly 1500 ori ores, amounting to 36-40g, and the 50 molten lodestone also accounts for around 19-20g. So in a sense, this is a large undertaking to me (i know some people look at 1500 ori ores and say “that’s it?”, but im a rather casual player).

On a side note, you guys know other pistols that have a nice particle effect? I like the ghastly sword and idk if the pistol/shield will be worth it. def much easier to get that 1500 ori ores/50 molten lodestones.

darn it, so i can’t do this while reading a book watching the screen? but i guess is a bit unfair for other professions.

personally, im trying to find a good pistol and shield that has a nice particle effect. I particularly like the molten one (or was it the firey one), the one that has a fire effect in it, as well as the ghastly weapons (blue flame!) I’m not gonna force it though coz as an engineer, I only use my pistol/shield maybe like half or even less of combat time (mostly im on bombs).

I’m also gonna try a new armor build and see where that takes me. All in all, it’ll take me around 1.9k Ascalonian tears (AC tokens) but with being able to do 180 tokens a day, it shouldn’t be too taxing of my time.

world competion = 100% world discovered. which means all hearts, skills, WY and vistas in all open world places. (pve world and WvW. afaik dungeons are not considered, thank goodness!)

big red circle thingy. also, check the mobs for animation that precedes a certain attack. like the lieutenant in AC explo, he’ll raise his hands before he does the “come over here!” pull and spin. personally, i haven’t seen/anticipated it well enough yet, but people say you can dodge his pull.

will those work if you cahnge orichalcum sword blades into, say ori pistol barrel or ori-some-other-weapon-part?

I was checking on forums and realize there is no place to compare builds apart from the specific profession. The reason I wanted to check if there was a forum above those is I wanna ask the difference between a power/prec/tough vs a power/tough/vit armor set (as there’s no power/tough/vit jewelry set).

Right now, I’m built as a tank-ish engineer, full Knight exotics and Emerald exotic jewelry. Then suddenly, as I was doing an AC explo for fun, I chanced upon the AC armors, wherein they read power/tough/vit set for all pieces. Seeng as how I was trying to be tanky, of course I got excited.

However, the toughness is comparatively much lower than that of the knight set. But idk if the added vit is enough to compensate for the reduction in toughness. or if the increase in power is enough to compensate for the removal of prec (less chance to proc crit but higher overall dmg).

Has anyone had any success with a power/toughness/vit set? Is it worth it or should I stick to my Knight set? I’m asking so I’ll know if I’ll continue to farm AC explo for the armors, as I also wanna farm some other dungeons for their skins

somehow, i always get dc’d at dungeons, after around 5-10min worth, i freeze up, hang, and have to restart the client. I already sent a support ticket, just wanna ask if this happens to other people?

I’ve done it twice only and I always get 5 (I don’t count the orignal scale material, i mean it gives +5 scales)

I was having some disconnecting issues and I wanted to send a ticket. But when I click send, it just goes on to continue and the circular thingy that says loading, but it never fully loads. It also happened when I tried to make a support account. =(

For those curious (and for those who can shed some light), I get frequent disconnects when I’m in cursed shore (and only in cursed shore in open map), and get heavily disconnected when I’m in ANY dungeon instance (dc after every 5min or less). If anyone knows about this/also experiencing this, or the issue above, please help out!

Hello!

I noticed I get randomly disconnected whenever I go to cursed shore. I also get heavily disconnected whenever I enter any dungeon. The dungeon instance is much worse because I get disconnected about 5min into the dungeon. The one in Cursed Shore is less frequent but still happens occassionally.

However, I have no disconnection issues in any other map or instance (like wvw, personal story). I don’t know whether it is simply a hardware issue (as I’m using only a macbook and running gw2 on bootcamp) or whether there is a specific connectivity issue with my ISP (I’m currently in Shanghai, China).

I included the Game Advisor text. I hope you can shed some light into this issue. I want to know if there’s anything I can do or if the issue is at your end.
