Waypoints too easy to contest

Can we please have the door’s on the keeps/SM take more than an enemy looking at them funny to contest?

Yep this is extremely annoying.

Maybe they need to take around 2000 damage before arrows showing up?

What you’re describing is differences in skill level. Dodging the right attacks has little to do with what class and build you bring. Player skill being equal, not a single encounter in the game will not be over faster with a higher damage-focused group setup. And that comes, in large part, from class, gear, and build.

Let me repeat that to be clear: there is no encounter in this game that isn’t over faster with more team DPS.

But that’s the problem. Player skill is not equal. So while some of us have to use tanky gear to compensate for our lack of skill, it is equally faulty to assume that someone has overcame the skill barrier by his usage of a high-dmg gear.

Moreover, player skill has a higher impact than gear itself.

I will, however, concede your point. Assuming everyone in the party is highly skilled, full-dps is preferable over other builds. However, we cannot make that assumption when taking in PUGs, and this is certainly a cause for concern. We cannot force people to be skilled when they’re not, nor expect them to suddenly be skilled as being skilled takes time and patience and each person improves at a different pace.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand this mindset is what we’re actually trying to avoid. I have a zerker mes so trust me I have indeed seen the power. It’s just that some instances or group comps, i’d rather have my eng than my mes (esp in instances where survival is more important than damage).

Which encounter does this describe?

Generally, most boss encounters. For example, the grast path in ac (although this is more applicable to aoe healing/boon-giving specs like staff ele), grawl fractal final boss (esp when someone gets hit by agony twice in a row), and other bosses that 1-2 hit you with a special attack if you’re not careful. Heck even the F&F final duo boss. I found it was faster and easier to do on my guard (wall of reflection ftw) than on my mes.

@sotva
if smokescreen pops up, well, it’s the lesser half, but still worthwhile nonetheless, and yea boon removal is terrible on eng but at least the option is present if you desperately need it (when do you actually need it in pve though? haven’t seen an encounter requiring one to do so). And magnetic pull thingy on bomb kit actually works pretty well, if not for the oddly-timed delay. It certainly is more consistent for grouping up mobs than temporal curtain.

And we’re derailing far too much from the topic. Although I can see a new issue possibly rising up: Is there such a thing as an “acceptable and viable” build for these elitists, or must it simply be pure zerker/damage-spec? This presents quite a conundrum because if the first one is accepted, what dictates what is an “acceptable and viable” build for each class? If the second one is accepted, what’s the point of other specs in the first place (further ostracizing a great many people playing different builds)?

If someone is advertising a speed run, and in the ad already says ping gear, no reason not to. But if for other dungeons, fractals, and what not, where no such thing pinging gear is applied, /inspect becomes possible for people to discriminate against people with other builds.

It is not a matter of discriminating other-than-zerker builds, /inspect will help to avoid builds and gear that are hands down just plain bad for group play and are not suited for any kind of teamwork and cooperation. You can find many examples in this thread, MF gear and 5-signet warriors are the most obvious cases.

Who are you to tell me that my tanky bomb engineer is just plain bad for group play? You’re running into two problems here: 1) you’re assuming people’s build is bad (according to some metric that only satisfies YOU) and 2) you’re not even sure if that build really is “terrible”.

What is tanky bomb engineer? When were they introduced in gw2?

p/s, bomb kit, full knights armor, full cavalier, 0/0/30/30/10 spec (hgh sub-build for damage), run around spamming bombs and healing groups.

I know, i was beaing sacrastics, engie is almost useless anyway but you are pushing the limit. HGH is pretty good in pvp have to admit. Now reroll zerker warrior and see the power.

Yea, cause engi is insane putting reflects, taking aways boons, curing conditions, pulling mobs, fast ressing with TW…

lol?
Reflect? check http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Toss_Elixir_U
Boon removal? check http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Throw_Mine
Curing conditions? check http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cleaning_Formula_409
pulling mobs? check http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kit_Refinement
(if to pull mobs, you want to disorient their position/knockbacks then we have them too: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Big_Ol%27_Bomb and http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magnetic_Inversion)

4 out of 5, not bad I’d say.

and 3/5 of that is what I use regularly too. (I don’t use minefield coz no one really needs boon removal in pve, except in very rare circumstances)

There are many more factors to consider if a dungeon run will turn out good or bad. Yes more damage means faster fights, but that holds true only if people are not dying left and right. So things like people getting downed, people knowing the fights, etc. Sure cof1 is mindnumbingly easy, but other dungeons are much harder, and not everyone is going to be perfect the first time around (i.e. dodging at the right time, using the right utilities, etc).

And who told you your bomb engineer is bad? It’s not rocket science but common sense, and you don’t need any kind of a metric to know that 5-signet warrior or the only guardian without a single reflect at grawl fractal 48, are just terrible for group play.

The guy above implicitly said that my build is bad because it is not a damage build.

I’m not sure why this isn’t even in the game. People are gonna check your gear anyway, by getting you to ping it. There’s really no reason an inspect option ISN’T in the game.

Elitism comes along with it – but if someone is advertising a speedrun and kicks you for being PVT, you had no room joining that group and were being ignorant by do so.

Rather than complaining it will segregate players, perhaps they should think about joining likeminded groups?

Just my 2c.

If someone is advertising a speed run, and in the ad already says ping gear, no reason not to. But if for other dungeons, fractals, and what not, where no such thing pinging gear is applied, /inspect becomes possible for people to discriminate against people with other builds. People sink into “various builds will only work for various dungeons, everything else will not work” mindset. We already started with that on cof 1, let’s not give that mindset to the other dungeons please. I want to play to have fun, not be judged because I came on my tanky bomb eng.

I wish I could inspect my guildies so I could help them with their builds more easily. Without one, whenever they ask for build help, they have to ping a dozen items and write a veritable couple paragraphs to communicate their traits and things.

Having an inspect feature in PvE would no more foster elitism than what we already have. Mean people require you to ping your stuff or you’re kicked, don’t play with them. Limiting players from being able to inspect just on account of the bad people that will be there anyway is terrible.

They should absolutely carry the inspect from PvP over to PvE.

It’s not that we don’t like this on account of bad people. It’s just that the presence of a /inspect would FOSTER people to be critical of other people, whether or not they perceive them to be good builds or bad.

Except you have 0 evidence to prove that. This game is already more elitist than any other game I have played in. I played WoW too, and never felt the same sort of pressure to have one build or play-style forced upon me. Having inspect and damage meters allowed me to improve myself by watching other people and using these tools. Here, I have to resort to the forums to learn how to play the game.

It feels like we are punishing everyone, because some people previously had bad experiences with it. It’d be like saying no one is allowed to drive in this city, because a few people were in car accidents in that city a few states over.

Have you played LOL? That game’s community is infinitely more toxic that GW2. And I suspect other highly competitive games or other MOBA also foster toxic attitudes. It’s like meeting a nice and friendly person is such a gem there, whereas it’s the norm here.

Honestly, the only place I see /inspect would be ok is in pvp.

Open World Events -Too Easy

World Events bosses die in SECONDS 10~30 seconds with 20~30 people.

At the start it wasn’t like this, fire elemental was one of the best boss fights i played, took us 30-45 min to kill him and there was a lot of us. Some bosses still went down pretty fast but other scaled really good with number of players.

They really need to make world bosses harder. And by that I mean make them hit like a firetruck to higher level’d people (while hitting the same to lowbies). Except jormag. Jormag is infuriating as it is already =/

Some WvW Ideas

in WvW

Posted by: penatbater.4710

penatbater.4710

Er…

3: that’s the point of trebs. Open-field they’re easy to take down, but if you put a treb in a structure, you better be equipped enough to defend it.

4: The alternative would be people would be flash-building golems at the sites anyway. And that’s kinda the purpose of portals and wp, not just to provide strategic advantages for the army, but also for the golems.

7: that’s exactly the point. You should be able to defend that dolyak or risk thieves sniping away at it. and don’t forget you can do the same to enemy servers.

8: I can solo an unupgraded camp no problem. But if it is t2, that’ll wipe even a 5-man party. I think it’s fine as it is. The reason why you don’t see a lot of t2 camps is that people take them even before they’re t2, coz once they’re t2, they’ll need to bring a couple more people than originally planned.

Besides those, good suggestions. I’m a bit iffy for 1 and 2 though.

it’ll lead to elitism.

Elitism is awesome. It provides a legit way to rock the dungeon, brings teammate to work together, and eliminates selfish acts like “signets are awesome”, “thief does big dmg in dungeons”, “too lazy to press 789”, “how to set my pet to passive?”, “MINION BUILD!”, “FLAMETHROWER!”, etc… Yeah you are having a great time, but I have to do twice/three times amount of work to keep your alive.

But, inspect what people are doing is a totally different thing… For me, it violates my privacy.

none of those selfish acts can be eliminated by having the right gear nor by being able to see people’s gear.

Underwhelming all around. There is no mention of fixing Orr except a mention of Lyssa. This will be a deal-breaker for some.

Then those people will leave. It’s pretty simple. I was in Orr today I had no problem there. But I’m not, and never will be, a farmer.

Those who are so obsessed with farming Orr that it’s all they care about, probably aren’t going to make a big difference to the game anyway.

It has nothing to do with ‘farming’. It has to do with playing the game. Read the forums, try Grenth, try gates of Arah. Watch it fail. Try it again. Watch it fail again. Look at the open Temples on the new Bear site. This morning Grenth was contested on every single server in the GW2 universe. The problem is actually quite straightforward. Saying that everything is fine is not helping the game.

I don’t say that everything is fine. You can find my complaints in numbers of threads. They’re not the same complaints as yours.

I HAD assumed you were talking about the farming problems, however, due to the massive number of threads by farmers in the last few days, so for that I apologize.

But stop saying I say nothings wrong, because it’s a demonstrable lie.

No lying here. You said you had no problem with Orr. If you were playing the content there and not farming, you would have to have problems in Orr because for any significant content (DE chains other than plinx (cf. Arah) and all temple fights now) it almost always fails. In my book perpetual failure is a problem; maybe your mileage varies here.

You should just teach people how to do the temple events. Almost all of them are rather doable by anybody. The only thing that requires special attention is grenth. And it’s surprising to see the amount of people who don’t know the strategies to do with Grenth. The last time I did it, minutes before the event (after failing twice in a row), I held a “Grenth clinic”, telling people the general strategies on what to do, how to survive Grenth’s rooftop teleport, where to stay if you’re on offense/defense, etc. I’m not saying it’s because of me, but after that, we actually finished the event (after a lol moment where jonez ran straight to the risen knight’s aoe swoop and killing himself instantly :p).

Increase damage and reduce toughness/hp. I don’t mind zerkers mowing down mobs, but they gotta be kitten good at it.

Deal. Except for bosses. Improve boss. Make it randomly deal 1 hitter on 1 direction. Something like that.

Sure, but not random though. I want some bosses to have a “charged” attack that deals massive damage (not 1 hit) that is also telegraphed, but certain conditions are happening while the charge is happening that makes it difficult to simply dodge (i.e. boss will entangle a wide area with those roots that immob and you have to kill to get out of while charging, after maybe 3 seconds, he unleashes massive aoe damage that you have to dodge at a relatively small window to escape, something like that). Why no /inspect ?

Because gear ping is voluntary, but /inspect is not. And if such feature were to exist, even if theres an option to allow viewing or not, people would be suspicious if you didnt let them see it, make them think your build isn’t up to par with what they want, and kick you nonetheless, effectively making said option useless.

This feature is also gonna be useless because outside of cof 1, pinging gear is largely unheard of. I have never met anyone asking me to ping my gear in an ac/ta/cm run, nor has my build ever been in question.

No suspicion would be raised if the system was designed properly. For example, default to off and only enabled for a specified duration before switching back off. Despite the limited application, after seeing GW2 players come on the forum and brag how they intentionally lie with gear pings, I see only positives in adding an inspect feature.

No matter how it is set up, elitists will still badger you why you aren’t letting them see your gear, which will still lead to suspicions. And as I’ve said, gear pinging is only used in cof 1. No other dungeon needs/requires it.

Personally though, in all my time running dungeons, I have never met anyone demanding for me to ping my gear or to tell my build. Some people ask, yes, and ofc I tell (because I’m quite proud of my build). But no one demands me to ping my gear or to tell my build…

which makes me suspect that the seemingly large support for /inspect on the forums might only be a vocal minority… o.o

wvw thief build that doesn't rely on stealth?

The thing is, the thief is very weak without stealth. You can never be as bunker as a d/d ele or guard or engi or ranger… You lack the protection and heals and buffs of those classes. You dont have good armor or health.

So to not rely on stealth, your only defense is constant dodge and evasion.
This can work well on 1v1s but it wont do much on fights where there are more ground-target aoes or opponents with good range.

Wouldn’t stealth be largely useless in team fights/zergs anyway since aoes are left and right?

it’ll lead to elitism.

Problem is thats already happened.

well into deeper elitism

How so? I’m genuinely curious.

Being asked to ping gear at least lets you know that the group is oriented towards efficiency so you can choose to join or not. An inspect feature takes that control out of your hands and will be misused more than it will be used appropriately.

Not if it can be toggled off. Asking for inspection to be turned on would be no different than asking for a gear ping.

No one has yet made a good argument as to why gear inspection is worse than gear pings. Most of the posts are arguing against gear checks in general, and those have been in the game forever and aren’t going anywhere.

Because gear ping is voluntary, but /inspect is not. People will exhibit less than socially desirable behavior (e.g. be “jerks”) whether or not there is a game mechanic or a tool in game that demonstrates their natural inclination.

Nothing in game will “make” them that way. It may help foster that undesirable behavior. There are “tools” outside the game that allow that now (see the GW2 looking for group site.)

The point isn’t that the /inspect will foster elitism.

The point is that no matter what behavior may or may not occur as a result of an /inspect, my gear, my build, my playstyle is NOT anyone’s business, unless I am doing something that is not within the bounds of the EULA.

bewhatever covered this quite nicely in his post.

Ah yes I agree jerks will always be present. However, as I’ve said, the /inspect WILL foster the jerkiness attitude because you are rewarding players for being jerks. Now I’m not saying jerks shouldn’t be allowed to play, but when they get to antagonize other players, it’ll pose a real problem. /inspect might not make them that way, but it’ll certainly help drive people into that orientation. GW2lfg, despite being an incredibly valuable service, has already done that. The point is that there are tools in a game (not necessarily gw2) that can help foster a particular attitude. League of legends is already trying to curb the toxic attitude of their players by using the honor system, where you click on a button that says that you think this player is a good team mate, friendly or helpful, as well as thinking your opponent is an honorable opponent. And I think this is merely the biggest concern people have over the /inspect feature. Granted elite people would want to know their party’s build to maximize effectiveness. But should that come at the cost of degrading other people? I don’t think so.

As the title says, are there any good wvw thief builds that don’t rely on stealth (for survival)? Or is stealth fundamental in any thief build?

Because my gear is none of your frigging business.

I am an elite.

I am not an elitist.

And I agree with this post 100%.

PS: whether or not an /inspect would lead to elitism is beside the point. Reread the quote.

an elite player is a player who is really good at the game.
an elitist is someone who looks down on other people for being “bad” at the game, worse than they are. One deal with gameplay, the other is attitude. You can be good at the game without being a jerk, or you could be a jerk without being good at the game. Or you could be good at the game AND be a jerk, or be bad at the game AND be a jerk. The whole point here is trying to avoid making people into jerks.

If People want to Farm give them Farms

I think this is exactly what ArenaNet did (successfully, imo) with the Instigator (which includes a nice chest reward) and crazed wave events in Southsun. Those events are easily farmable and don’t seem to suffer unecessarily from DR – especially when you throw in the escort chain that connects the two areas they take place and the packs of skelk/karka/wind riders (and passiflora nodes) across the island.

I think the design (which I believe was specifically developed – at least partially – with farmers in mind) bodes well for people who enjoy farming in these games.

I reckon once the SSC events are over, instigator will also be gone (i.e. the refugees are now satisfied with SSC and no longer… well… instigates a riot)
