my go to recommendation is a tanky burning build. does excellent damage without being squishy. Use tanky condi gear, runes of balthazar, and glyph of elemental power. easy mode
I don’t like tanky power builds because they don’t do much damage.

staff is more mobile than d/w
The real problem with pve staff is that you don’t do much damage outside of fire, so if you need to access swiftness or defensive tools, you lock yourself out of your primary damage tools for 10 seconds. Working around that is the biggest challenge
You don’t need to keep mobs at 1200 range for staff to be good. It does just as much dps as d/w in close range. But you do have to manage your cooldowns more carefully

And yes, I do look down on support a dedicated role. In traditional mmo it stands for casters who sit safely in the back casting buff skills listening to calls. It’s traditionally where you stick the lowest skilled players in the group.
In most of the half decent MMOs that I didn’t get quickly bored by, support is the hardest thing to play
no idea what the meta WvW build is, but the raid healer build puts out the maximum possible healing in the game
actually druid was nerf/buffed since I last did the math, so I could be mistaken
edit: it was 2960 per second average for druid and 3460 per second average for tempest, with druid being more bursty and tempest more sustained. This was at 1500 healing power, though, which isn’t the most you can have, and was 7 months ago

poor speed? daredevil is much faster than core thief
try using unhindered combatant instead of bound
also you don’t need to use a staff on daredevil
Dagger isn’t actually melee range. Melee is 130 range. Dagger is 300-400. You kite even on dagger. I don’t find it too hard to avoid getting hit by melee. It’s the ranged attacks and big aoes that she’ll need to watch for. Being closer to your melee allies is what you want to be doing anyway, so everyone can support each other, and dagger ele’s extra range makes for a good way to learn imo.
I duel pretty well on ele. only really good mesmers tend to be able to win, and bunkers can stalemate until it’s no longer a duel
main problem I see is the lack of condition clear. You’ve got magnetic wave, and that’s it.
used to be that high scale fractal mobs had more armor, but not anymore
There aren’t any condi fractals.
but yes, you can run a condi build that does good damage
The share radius was reduced by a third.
(which means the share area size was more than cut in half)
skelk venom was buffed though. heals a lot more than it used to
devourer venom was also nerfed, but not a big deal pve
(edited by reikken.4961)
if your group is mesmer ranger warrior, go straight damage
otherwise auramancer is fantastic for the harder fractals
Thief can run very survivable builds. Just go SA+Acro+DD, camp stealth and spam evades
What, does tag disappear when you stealth? I don’t see how being a thief would be a problem.
not even going to say what it is?
There isn’t much floating in this game in general, and asura do more jumping and spinning than floating, but yes on all 3 counts. And they do a jump spin and then the male animation.
meteor shower is the only animation that I am aware of being notably different between male/female. female sylvari/human/norn have that spin thing, while their male counterparts do more of a stormcaller thing. and asura does a kind of combination since they throw a spin in there. but they don’t float. And I don’t think there’s any difference between male/female on asura and charr on any skills.
As for what floats the most, I’m pretty sure it’s asura. and gender doesn’t matter. They float if you’re stationary while using a breath attack (drake’s breath, cone of cold), during burning speed, a little bit with overload fire, and while everyone floats during overload water, theirs is more floaty. The floatiest animation in the game imo.

no TS no problem. Use Discord
no voice at all howver is a bad idea
Metabattle doesn’t have any builds made for soloing.
I don’t remember the first part, but water/arcane/tempest build makes staying alive pretty easy in general. doubly so if your build has any healing power in it.
water/earth too
and I’m pretty sure I used my condi tank build for this
two sigils of blood
What’s in it for anet? Consider the cost of updating dungeons vs what they’ll gain from it. The cost is big. How many more people are going to be spending money because of updated dungeons?
Thief by far. The mobility they have is amazing. Perfect for exploration.
Emperor Palpatine says howdy!
White skin, Celestial hair, White glow, Shadow Abyss Arcane Outfit, Fresh Air (eg Lightning-based) Staff Elementalist. For obvious reasons.
not scepter?
unload on them with burst and interrupts as soon as they swap out of earth.
And strip protection
Mainly I’m going with random pugs. Can you send your support tank condi build?
but I swap out skills and traits frequently. This is for when I want AoE perma protection facetank facerolling and don’t really need stun breaks or heavy condition clearing. Typically you swap back and forth between overloading fire and earth, swapping through water every time (if needed) and air every other time just for the aura and orb. And I basically never overload water or even stay in water for more than 1.5-3s (either the minimum amount of time, or long enough to cast 543), not even when I need heavy healing.
Swaps are all pretty straightforward if you’re familiar with the class. Take gale song and/or eye of the storm when stun breaks are needed. Take cleansing water and swap earth to arcane 221 for more condi clear and heals and less protection. And take signet of fire for more damage. Glyph of storms and aftershock of course see use as well. Arcane is actually what I default, since it’s more fun to play.
And if you don’t really need much support/defense, you can just swap everything to damage focused, taking fire trait and either earth or arcane (they’re about the same, but earth is probably easier to play), with glyph of elemental power, signet of fire, and either cleansing fire or glyph storms (they’re about the same):http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQJBIhdSfJU0A24AY2AwhJWEAsgAQB4AMED2BFB3W7sN3C-TBiAABJqHA6TAApqQUmyPY2foT1XaUJIAPAABBoI-e
Nets damage fairly comparable to power fresh air in absence of any team support.
(edited by reikken.4961)
I do not. What was it?
note that max dps solo build is notably different than max dps in meta parties. if you’re by yourself you need to stack your own might and fury
the power is better
first question that should be asked is are you going to be going with a dedicated group or with random pugs?
I run power dps tempest when I run with my group, but support tank condi tempest when I join pugs, since the latter can put an entire group on its back and carry it.
Zealot’s is a good mix of damage and healing. It just doesn’t offer any defense. and is more expensive to make. Zealot’s is twice as much damage as cleric’s which is twice as much damage as magi’s.
(edited by reikken.4961)
A while back, I tried to create a build that has a lot of healing power and support and some solid defense while doing as much damage as I could fit in, but I couldn’t find any power based options that came anywhere near condition builds.
I made one anyway, just to change it up, and it’s fun, but it definitely does a lot less damage than my support tank condi build.
Just keep in mind that power gives you a lot more raw damage than precision. With the linked build, adding power gives almost twice as much damage as adding precision, even accounting for the precision to ferocity trait (would be slightly more than twice as much without the trait). This obviously isn’t including crit procs. A fresh air based build of course needs to have a lot of precision no matter the cost. Also I don’t think 1200 healing power is getting sufficient use if you aren’t taking water. You’re missing out on 2.0 healing ratio (~4 auras) from swapping into water, plus aura sharing, leaving you with only the shouts and the warhorn skills to throw heals (and buffs) at people.
Anyway, given that trait setup, and given that zealot’s is kind of expensive, I can’t really make any changes, unless you want to drop some healing power. Just make sure to have lots of rice balls on hand. They cost nothing.

oh they are able to make pvp/pve splits now. but I don’t think they’d make a split that fundamental. They said someting to that effect.
chargeup time on overloads is 6s fyi, not 5
And I hope those are 5 different options, as I don’t have anything civil to say if you think all 5 should be applied at once.
By the way, half of those would be hilarious in pve, where ele doesn’t have any problems.
I’d rather see buffs that don’t benefit the supportive build in any way rather than general buffs. which rules out all but the first two. but even then, #2 could have use on support builds with that cooldown reduction. but #1 is BrOkEN in PvE, so #2 is the best one. But let’s tweak it a bit. Let’s see…
(edited by reikken.4961)
When I made my asura ele, I ran around a lot while 20-30+ levels below the nearby mobs. When you’re 10+ levels lower, mons always crit. Also their crit damage scales with the level difference. So I took stone heart and was able to facetank them when I would have otherwise been one-shotted.
Also there are some mobs that crit a lot in normal comditions.
didn’t notice any difference when I swapped from human to asura ele
other than one being much cuter
DT has one use: PvE ranged burning build
it would be nice if i actually had the time or equipment to learn a raid……
It doesn’t actually take that much. If you’ve been playing the rest of the game, you should have some ascended trinkets. But if you don’t, that’s totally fine. The only important thing is an ascended weapon (only your main hand one really matters), which isn’t all that expensive. And that’s all you need. The rest can be exotic without any noticeable effect. And if anyone is demanding ascended armor, you’re gonna have a bad time raiding with them for other reasons than your armor.
If you want to do something super niche, just do it. Don’t ask the game devs to waste their time to serve it to you on a silver platter. Just take an infinite offensive potion and an infinite defensive potion and not an infinite mobility or omni potion. Simple. This topic is ridiculous.
condi burst+support tank is my favorite pve build, but 20 burn stacks is way too easy to cleanse in pvp. ele isn’t good at applying covering conditions
healbot ele is good with action cam
mm yes, skill chains in different orders. I didn’t even think of that. Also gives ele better ability to access and follow up on their own CCs. Ele is the worst class in the game at interrupts because of attunements.
not a problem on flame axe or greatsword, but absolutely hilarious on the others. you could chain so much CC. also ice storm
yeah with tempest it would be too much, but I think it would be a great addition to the next spec. even on fresh air builds. you could swap through all your attunements to get 3 air swap procs and whatever other procs and such you get (this takes 3 seconds), then refresh attunements and do it again. or save it for an emergency swap back into earth or water in pvp. never get caught with your pants down. or use it on staff so you can swap out of fire for the utility without dropping your dps to zero. etc. lots of uses
(edited by reikken.4961)
i think a better way of doing this would be to scale the weapons (and more items) more properly depending on the race
I want big weapons on my asura
maybe 30-40 sec cooldown
would work well with pretty much any build. maybe the next elite spec could have it
what do you think?
Only suggestion I have for your build is perhaps consider switching “Earth’s Embrace” to “Elemental Shielding”. You lose out on Armor of Earth when you hit 50% but in my opinion its better to have control over when you want protection. By swapping to Elemental Shielding, all the auras you apply to yourself grant protection which is better then the 6 seconds provided by Earth’s Embrace, which also has a CD of 75 seconds.
stability
movement: esdf
skills: awr, 4 extra mouse buttons, zxb. not in that order
class skills: q234 …and N. I don’t play engi. amd 5 is already used
adding cooldown reduction to this trait would be more than enough. and might even be too much
if any conditions were added at all I’d say add a few stacks of vulnerability
this would of course be a separate option from adding cooldown reduction, if cooldown is too powerful
(edited by reikken.4961)
I don’t know what metabattle says, but in a pug, the main reason for failing dps checks is people going down. so as a healer, the best thing you can do is be as good at keeping people on their feet as possible. which means magi’s
edit: this is specific to raids though. I don’t know the dungeon/fractal meta as I always do those much more casually. and I don;t think anyone cares what your build is
