Have an energy sigil on your offhand sword. You can actually almost do the entire solo with just base dodges and ww (greatsword camping). You may need the block or energy sigil proc for some of the aoe lifesteals though.

Cant even block it anymore with aegis, shelter or any other block. Have to dodge, invuln or mesploit.

The vast majority of players who are fine/dont mind the current system have no reason to come to the forums. Forum is always a vocal minority.

The game is currently in a position where there is a lot of diversity and many playstyles are viable. The complaints come from people wanting their other playstyles to be just as efficient as someone who sacrifices passive defence for damage. Which is of course ridiculous. The roles are not locked into certain builds which is a good thing. You can simply change weapons and utilities without altering your core build to get more access to one of the other roles. This is a very good build system. Its the content which is too old and too easy. This is the problem, not the build system or lack of trinity.

You are meant to run to the left through the arch way so the oozes dont even spawn. Either you or someone else ran straight across the room and spawned the oozes which is probably the reason they called you a troll.

Yeah this is what happens when one yells “zerker all the way” and all sheep follow….
Necro already has best cleaving attack of them all. It’s called epidemic. Just make sure to apply solid amount of conditions on target and epidemic away.

Its rng. But im of the opinion that certain accounts have an id which gives them better rng (unintentional which results in not true rng). As i know people who get ascended boxes very frequently and others who get ridiculous amounts of precursers in the forge. >.>

I finally got a raider chest the other week after about a month of nothing. Now im back to my regular Ettinbands.

Well even in pugs if you are able to burst the boss down pretty fast, scholar is better. I would just go with that as its best for organised groups and it really doesnt matter that much for pugs. Plus its way cheaper.

Depends if you pug a lot. Do fractals a lot. Or care more about doing max damage. Scholar is the best choice for max damage and organised groups. But in pugs and sometimes fractals the extra might duration can really help the group.

Strength runes cost way too much for me to justify them even though i use ele in fractals a lot. So ive just got my one set with scholar.

Or how about we don’t go trinity-lite and let people play exactly how they want? Why are people so insistent on imposing restrictions on classes? Do you not enjoy freedom? Do you not enjoy the fact that you can go balls deep min-max or play a completely atrocious, random build and yet still clear content?

It’s not imposing restrictions, it’s giving additional abilities to excel in.

Also I did not see anybody here ask for the holy trinity.

Of course it’s imposing restrictions. “guardians can tank but warriors suck at conditions” is restrictions. We don’t need that.

Well if that is a restriction then you should give every class exactly the same or really you would not have different classes any-more only different races.. of course without skills based on the race. That might be what you like but most people like some more tactics and teamwork to be involved.

yes, if an encounter will require players fulfilling important specific roles, then every class need to be able to do so. Their approach to the problem might be different, but in the end no class should ever be excluded.

Unfortunately they have already started excluding the necro by making some attacks undodgeable.

Let me just get something straight -

My argument for this is the following:

Condition warrior can get kill times on par with direct damage. Against light and medium targets, berserker is superior. Against heavy armour targets – this is the grey area. This is what I want to find out, and what I am currently experimenting on. I’ve condition soloed the abomination faster than every single video I have found except Goku’s 2:34 – and on my fastest kill (2:48) I made stupid errors and don’t even have maxed out gear. This is what I’m curious about. I want to push this build as hard as possible and get the fastest time I possibly can against what is basically a punching bag to see whether if in an almost-vacuum setting whether condition surpasses berserker against heavy armour.

I question this. As far as im aware lupi has more armour than abom yet i havent seen a condi kill close to the berserker kill time. Getting your condi’s cleansed should not be an issue for warrior seeing as its entirely possible to avoid it completely on necro.

And its true you dont have as much flexibility with the condi build. You dont have the option to take cc without hurting your dps by a large margin. Direct damage builds dont suffer this as you camp gs and then have the second set for the flexible stuff. Just because you are having fun with condi and finding it refreshing doesnt mean its better or even equal.

Correct me if im wrong. But hes just saying he hasnt seen any issues with npc’s on those paths. However thats very lucky to be in that position as we all know that the arah npcs are the biggest trolls in the game. :P

There are both ascalonian healers and ascalonian monks in that fractal.

Im not sure if theres only 1. But the far right route to the courtyard definately has a healer in the group before the furthest gate.

In PvE .. I find Hybridmancer to be the way .. Good “direct” damage and some conditions to boost yourself and create a disadvantage for the enemy.. like blinds and weakness..cripples 2 + might <3

Full berserker build does more and can still do decent condition damage and control. :P

Hybrids only work where theres good condition damage on a good direct damage weapon. The only thing that comes close to that is engi nades and warrior sword. Necro is not a hybrid class. You lose way too much effectiveness in both condi damage direct damage when going hybrid on a necro.

  • Unblockable attacks: I don’t mind all too much that they made Malrona unreflectable, I get why they did it, but it frustrates me to no end that you can’t even block the attacks anymore. This is just an example, the new Fractals are full of attacks that are unblockable. I don’t like to be forced to memorize every kitten move in your game that can or can’t be blocked. We need consistency, not some random “will my aegis save me this time, or will I be kittened?” bullkitten.

Agree. And the undodgeable attacks point just shows that anet dont even consider necro a class anymore (they can only dodge to avoid).

They have always done that. Thats why its best to clear them or let them patrol far enough so you can skip without aggroing. Usually in a solo you would just clear all the trash and leave the hunter.

Can tank it. It is one of the more hard hitting ones though. :P

However it actually wouldnt even be a 1shot if you get downed by it. Its multiple hits from the shockwave which is why it does so much.

Not the only one. Kudu has a one-shot skill in CoE story.

Kholer in AC explorable is really, really close to a one-shot. Necros can survive it if they have death shroud ready, but everyone else gets downed if he hits them.

Neither of those are 1 shot attacks. The only other attack that comes close is jade maws beam, but you can tank that with a berserker necro so i dont even think thats fair to count. There are many hard hitting attacks that will 1 shot glassy builds in many situations. But they are not true 1 shot attacks. They can be tanked. Either by stacking passive defence, damage reduction buffs or a combination of both.

I bring this up because your arguement was that theres no point taking defensive gear because so many things 1 shot you anyway. Which is completely untrue.

Forgot to mention. Energy sigils are required. If you are still struggling, get endurance food, use double wells (for locusts), signet of locust and use speed of shadows in soul reaping. This allows you to always have bonus movement speed even in DS and means you can get out of aoes more easily. Plague form for phase switch and accidental bubbles.

Soloing Arah p2 with Nec. I thought about doing this since Nec is my main, but I assume it will be quite hard to kill Lupi in comparison with other classes. Is a berserker build viable there (I have energy sigils on offhand weapons), especially seeing that the swarms will most likely annoy in p1 or should I roll a condition build? Also, which utilties would be useful?

//I thought of something along the lines of Consume Conditions, BiP, Well of Power (for vigor), signet of the locust and plague or lich form for the utilities.

Berserker is probably a bit easier but condi is faster. You can have some difficulty with condi due to lack of lifeforce for aoe in phase 2 and lifesteal cleansing your conditions in phase 3. See vids below.

not:

You want balance changes and core design fixes to the class. Thats fine. Most of your issues seem to be the case of ranger actually fits its design but is not equal in efficiency to other methods. Its unreasonable to ask for this as it goes against the games core design (melee being superior to range but having increased risk).

There are issues with the ranger but you can play how you want and its still viable so there arent actually any core design flaws in the rangers case. Other than them having less single target range dps than an ele. Your points 3 & 4 seem more like lack of understanding and experience to me but I wont tell you how to play your class. :P

And anyway. The actual order should be this:

addressing SERIOUS core design flaws (within reason, not to the extent of making everything equal) > new content > bug fixes > balance

This is because there are always bugs and balance is never perfect. They should not be prioritizing these over content which would bring in new players and keep others playing the game. Balance and bug fixing should just be dealt with on a regular basis in the background. New content is what keeps people playing, not bug fixes and minor balance tweaks. Core gameplay changes can mostly be ignored as they are part of balance and are often already mostly delivered upon, at least to a certain extent. And its only in serious cases that they should take priority.

New weapons are “acceptable.” At the same time, what about rearranging some of the current weaponry for different classes. For example:

  • Mesmer and MH Pistol
  • Ranger with Staff (I’m thinking a kinda plant control vibe here)

Those are just a couple of fast examples, but I’m sure folk see the point in general.

Thats what people meant by new weapons. :P

Well personally i think they should both be implemented. We should have a bag where only our gear goes into. Although the op’s suggestion would make such a bag unneeded in most situations. There are times where you would still want one even if its just to keep all your multiple weapons separated from your loot.

To achieve better crit chance while using berserker you would need to drop banner of strength or fgj for signet of fury. If you drop fgj then you need to make sure someone else in the group can help you maintain permanent fury.

Agree. Another solution would be to introduce a proper gear bag.

It would be a bag where only accountbound/soulbound gear gets placed in it. Or only gear can be placed in the gear bag if you unequip it or place it directly in the bag yourself (prevents acc bound exotic drops etc from cluttering the gear bag). Previously i used exotic fractal bags to try and do this but with ascended gear it no longer works. :/

Why dont you go complain about the ranger on a different thread. I dont think anet will ever satisfy your wants so with that in mind we would never get any new weapons if they tried to perfect balance first. Its a poor arguement. Anyway in the recent stream they mentioned they wanted ranger to be the best at single target range dps so they will probably be tweaking things eventually. That doesnt mean they cant work on weapons at the same time. Dont be selfish just because you play one class and are happy playing 2 boring weapons for the forseeable future.

Theres no point wasting gold on ogre runes. Just go straight for scholar or ranger runes. Even eagle runes would be better than ogre. Ruby orbs are bad but if you dont have any money then they are basically the no cost alternative until you can afford scholar. The 4th bonus on ogre runes is just terrible and then the 6th is pretty weak compared to other dps runes so I would never recommend them. Best to save your gold for a bit longer and get the best.

I havent tested ranger runes since the last patch, but i havent heard anyone mention it being fixed. So it probably still works.

Balance will never be perfect. There will always be bugs. Introducing new weapons would most likely cause huge balance shifts and result in a number of new bugs. However i feel the game needs this change pretty soon. The game has become stale. The new traits barely added anything. Weapons will definately add a lot more freshness to the game and its something the game needs as soon as possible. Along with more endgame pve content.

I have all classes at 80 yet i find myself bored with all of them because theres nothing new. Id love to see new weapons very soon but i dont believe we will get them anytime in the near future. :<

Your group had low cleave dps, no blinds, no aegis, no group stability. And you probably didnt bother to dodge any of the vets attacks.

Many classes need to run out of combat to regen health. This will cause her to glitch in most cases. Silly thing to complain about, teleport is barely worth counting as a mechanic anyway.

I wouldnt trust icons. Swiftness usually lasts a bit longer than the icon does. And another boon may have been applied in that split second. Lag could also be a factor. Best thing would to be test in a controlled environment (private pvp server would be best).

i always found it strange that necro dagger doesn’t cleave.
as the OP said, every other profession has the ability to cleave in melee (and most of them are alot more powerful than necro dagger attacks).

Necro dagger is one of the highest DPS in the game, so not really.

One of the best auto attacks in the game. But not really one of the best dps weapons in the game. WTB burst skill on dagger 2. :P

Video is difficult to see clearly. But im just going to point out what i think maybe happening. When it blocks with less than 3 boons its because of either shelter or some other non aegis block. Spinal shivers is not unblockable so it seems it will only strip if aegis is one of the boons that is to be stripped. So with 4+ boons you will get a block most of the time. With less than 3 boons it should strip all of them unless another type of block is active.

Further testing should be done in a controlled environment to be certain though.

Edit: Just looked at the video again. Clip 2 strips because it actually strips 2 boons. So it seems the bug is that when theres only aegis it gets blocked. But if they have any other boon it will strip all unless they have more than 3 boons. But this could be intended as the skill is not unblockable.

I could but I wont. I don’t think me listing these will have any bearing on each others opinion on the matter.

Which brings me back to the original post of that we are just going to have to agree to disagree. I doubt there is going to be any sweeping changes to the way PVE works so I doubt the current Zerker meta will change anytime soon.

Until then I shall stick to WvW as currently its the gamemode that I enjoy the most when im not face hugging doors.

The hardest hitting attacks are in high level fractals, and hardest ive witnessed recently was a 29k crit on my glass ele from an ascalonian warrior. If i had passive defence + other damage reduction that would not have 1 shot me. Bosses never hit this kittenly ascalonian trash mobs do and they dont crit very often. So the whole arguement of “if I get 1 shot anyway I may aswell go full glass” can get completely thrown out the window. Most attacks seem to hit for about 9-12k max which only 1 shots low hp classes with glass gear (ele has 11k hp). As soon as you add prot, defensive gear or any other form of damage reduction it becomes very difficult to get 1 shot even as an ele.

There is only ever one optimum. You wont change that. You can make other methods viable, but thats already the case… If you nerf berserker people will just take the next highest dps gear and gearcheck for that. This is why i dont understand why you players keep asking for things to change. None of your suggestions will fix elitism. You cant get rid of elitism no matter what you do.

The best thing to do is make it hard for pugs to run full glass but without driving them from the game. Ironically that doesnt seem possible, as the recent spider queen change shows. People were complaining about stacking and didnt understand why it was done so they used spider queen as an example to complain about. Anet listened and changed her so she poisons even in melee. Who did that stop? Not the stacking “exploiters” that understood the game (we can still stack and burst her down). It only stopped many casual players from running ac. When anet listens to less experienced/casual players who are trying to stop the meta they only end up hurting the casual players they were listening to in the first place. Ironic justice if you ask me.

Well, there still isn’t really any “control” going on (due to defiant and melee stacking), but support is.

Defiant forces groups to coordinate cc. Every single day my group utilizes control in almost every encounter to save dodges or give us some safe time when someone screws up. We also use it for setting up burst (ice bow 5), position bosses and mobs or just interrupting key attacks. Stacking melee makes no difference to the use of control. If anything control is more widely used in organized groups because skilled players dont require support as much. Please stop being willfully ignorant.

Having diversity that forces you to switch gear would be completely unfair and stupid simply because of the amount of grind to get ascended gear.

Soloing isnt as easy as people make it look. I consider content which can be solo’d due to strategic approach and skill to be well designed. The content is really old, this is why people can solo almost everything. If its locked down to require player counts it ruins the fun and creativity you can have with it, even in a group setting.

It makes sense in a real time action based game with no tanks or healers that you should be able to avoid all damage with knowledge and skill. Which in turn means it should be possible to solo many encounters. I dont see why people dislike this. Sounds like you should all go back to a trinity mmo if you dislike gw2’s system so much.

Well theres no possible way to incentivise things like cleric and PVT beyond killing the viability of glass cannon gear. There is plenty of diversity already in PvE. The lower end of the scene just doesnt see it. And they see that almost all variations of builds still use berserker and think that theres no diversity, support or control going on. This is the problem i have with this whole no support/control/diversity arguement. Its built on pure ignorance, no offence. Yes the game could be improved with more complex encounters and harder fights. But that wont change the diversity, its already there. People just choose to ignore it.
