Gabby. Congrats. You made me, literally, laugh out loud.
Won’t be a problem, imo, for me
My ranger was nerfed many times because of PvP. Plenty of reasons to hate it, not many to like it.
I completely agree with you on this matter. They have to seperate pvp and pve balance from each other. They call my main class, condition necromancer op in spvp, but it sucks in pve because of 25 stack condition limit. You know, I can’t even deal a little damage to get loot from champs or bosses sometimes. Hopefully looks like they’ve noticed pvp/pve balance problems and looks like they’ll sepereate them a little in oct. 15th patch. I hope they balance classes and builds in pve after this patch too.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/October-15th-balance-skills-updates-preview/first
Glad we found something to agree on
Well, all the advertising I saw stressed PVE and WVW. I don’t care for PVP in any format… except for zerging. Big zerg fights in WvW I find fun after a few stiff drinks. The 20-30 people I play with regularly do not PVP. Two of them are constantly in WvW. None of them are constantly in s/tPVP. I know a few, literally, who go to s/tPVP for the daily APs. I figure if PVP is really popular when I go into to the Mists and look at the available rounds going, most of them would be full, not empty like they are. And Anet has given all the balance priority to s/tPvP. That’s where my hate of the PVP comes from. My ranger was nerfed many times because of PvP. Plenty of reasons to hate it, not many to like it. I know many others who have been incredibly unhappy about balance in PVE because of PVP. If they had split the majority of it from the beginning maybe I wouldn’t hate PVP. Too late now. So yeah, when I say majority of the player base its because the majority of players I see are in PVE and not in the s/tPVP arenas. I know one friend of mine who gave up on PVP because he couldn’t get anyone he knows to go there, ever. I’d say PvP is just as much as a priority or more than PVE given they balance classes around PVP, for the most part. The more they split, the better it gets. I read just as much PVP stuff from the patches as I do PVE. The only difference is the PVE stuff is flashier. And there is plenty of stuff to do in PVE. Dungeons, Fractals, Grinding… Well, if you don’t want to do any of that (like I don’t care to PVP) then that’s your choice. You are choosing PVP to be your end game. I am not. Despite what I said earlier though, I do have to say that the resources that are needed for LS updates seem to take a lot more than the PVP updates I have seen since the LS began… which tells me thats where the bulk of the player base is and where they know their income comes from
This is a matter of different strokes for different folks.

Nah. Warriors can uses longbows too. Still, much different using the warrior than the ranger. The warrior doesn’t feel anywhere as nimble as the ranger does. It’s those individual weapon skills that make the ranger, not the pet, a fun class to play.
As long as we get our damage coefficients back up (basically we get to be 100% of our damage output) I’d be more than happy with that, mistsim.
So here is list of features what may prevent this misunderstandings (lets say it will be some checklist what dont allow players without those specifications even see party offer in roster):
- Level restriction
- Class restriction
- Gear rarity and stat type restriction
- Let party creator see players gear and build (like in SPvP)
Sounds good to me. I’m libertarian by nature, so I guess thats why I don’t see a problem with this. You get to play how you want and people who want to play like you get to get into your group…. I don’t see how this is a bad thing. Live and let live they say. I think it is when snowflakes get their feelings hurt because they were kicked from a group that they had no business joining in the first place. I guess until that is implemented I will still be using gw2lfg.com because there is rarely a quick “get in and get out” when PuGing. Sure, it happens, but incredibly rare. I’ve seen much more frustration because of PuGing with no restrictions than anything.
What exactly would a offensive caster do? Like a heavy armor elementalist?
Shelved my ranger except for dailies and standing around in LA. With my guardian it’s nice having the things I use, like the class defining mechanic, work as intended.
Dumb that they are buffing the pets as the abilities are useless while they are down and that’s if they can get them off with the incredibly LONG animations. Hideously long animations…. And no, they are going to make them more desirable. Not to the dozens of people I know that play. Which is why I have my Guardian to main now… Although there’s just nothing to complain about on that character. Everything I use on my Guardian works as intended. You can roll that piece of poop that pets are in glitter or dip it in gold, it’s still going to be poop. Glad they are trying but, obviously they aren’t trying hard enough. And you’re right. They are a pet class. They should be called Beastmaster. I wouldn’t have started the toon in the first place if that was the name of the profession.
I have a lvl’d 80 warrior, guardian, mes, and theif in addition to the ranger. Just sucks I enjoy playing the ranger so much more than the others. I’m learning to like my Guardian a lot, though… Eventually I’ll like it just as much as my Ranger.
Story arc of the jungle dragon? Anyone?
We need some real evil to fight, we are all useless heroes around without Zhaitan…
Thats what I’m hoping for!
Oh no, we understand just fine. That’s why we don’t like him.
Just like any other GC profession, if you can’t dodge, you’re going to go down. Personally, I never thought it was bad. I was tired of changing gear so I went with all celestial gear just so I don’t have to change gear and still do decent damage.
I really like the Ranger in GC form or not.. I want to make it my main again… but can’t. Not while we are handicapped by the pet. I want the Ranger to be better and I feel at this point the only real hinderance left is the pet.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
Yeah. I’m all geared up on all of my alts and I don’t really have anything else to do since I don’t care for the ascended weapons/gear.
I know how it works
Still pretty confident I can get it maxed out in a week.
@Mea: Pretty simple… Its the pets the vast majority don’t like.
Oh, and the Rangers that don’t melee when they should.
I was honestly shocked when I first got this game, logged in, and found out there wasn’t any VoIP support. kitten!? Oh well. I had Skype installed already, but didn’t want to start adding random people to my list.
Meh. Don’t much care for this Scarlet business at all. Very not interesting story line.
Meh, more pve content like we don’t have so much already… Add new pk modes, and pvp content to make this game go further…
Funny, I think that PVP content is what is killing PVE, where the majority of the player base is.
Nope. Don’t think so. I’ll hold out hope that one day common sense will break through to the Devs.
As far as OP goes:
Martial Mastery – Merged with Two-handed strength. Remains in Wilderness Survival.
Master trait: Damage with Greatswords, Swords and Spears is increased by 5% and Cooldown is decreased by 20%.
I like that one. Idea of putting 30 pts into BM for something that should be standard, though… Man. No.
If you are that good with your Ranger you can solo them dungeons, then chances are you’d be even better playing with another class that didn’t have such a large percentage of their DPS locked into a terrible mechanic. I’d much rather take my Warrior or Guardian into a dungeon for soloing than my Ranger…
1 & 2 apply to PVE, PVP, and WVW. I also don’t think that they won’t change it, it’s they just can’t fix what is wrong with it without major resources being taken up… Which is why it is still mostly a broken mechanic.
Got one for you for skrimishing:
Beast Fusion: Permenately stow pet and gain 40% more damage.
Bam. My world instantly changed. You can put it 30 pts deep. I don’t care. I’ll take it.
After reading all these posts about how pets are being one shotted by the new Tequatl, it just made me think about how awesome it would be if pets gained a second of invulnerability when we dodged.
Funny, it made me think how awesome it would be to have a perma-stow option.
My friends and guildies thought I couldn’t pull the 6th precursor from the forge either…
The storyline with the LS has none of my attention. I could not care less if they ended it right now. So little is conveyed with in game play that I have none of my curiosity is pulled to wanting more. I’m not interested in Scarlet or the Dragon Bash or… Actually, it is easier to say that the only bit I have found interesting was the story revolving around the Molten Facility. That’s it. All the other LS content story has been utterly bad at getting my attention. A mere selecte few of the people I play with have any interest in the LS either. My sister is the only one I can think of off hand that is genuinely interested in it.
In the course of six hours I went from 24% to 138% account wide MF… So, Give me a week and mine will be maxed out.
I whole heartily believe that they cannot/will not fix the pet AI. Given the last years’ worth of patches has been nothing but band aids. There has been no noticable improvement in AI. Adding the “pet doesn’t get aggro unless player does first” was the most meaningful quality of life improvement to date, but that isn’t an AI improvement. Pathing issues are a killer and the reason it is, is because pets can’t jump. I shouldn’t have to swap pets as a substitute for better pathing or because my pet doesn’t have the AI to not stand in a red circle. No. They should do that out the box. My dog at the house knows to get away from things that hurt it, like the electric fence. My dog in the game does not. My fern hound would literally stand on the electric fence until it was dead. The fact that they cannot hit moving objects is an issue with all minions and that is a design flaw in the game itself, but it impacts us much more given how much damage the pet is suppose to be of our overall output.
I whole heartily hope that logic wins the day and we get a perma-stow option. Given the vast majority of the Ranger problems (<- forgot to put that word in there as I was saying it in my brain faster than I was typing it) are in the pet, we should be given the perma-stow option. Yeah, shouts need help, spirits are better but not worth it still, etc… but our pets are leaps-and-bounds ahead (see what I did there?) of any other issues we might have.
Also, keep in mind I’m speaking from a PVE angle. I could not care less for PVP modes such as WvW and s/tPVP with my Ranger.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
@Serraphin: Suck it up, Snowflake. I said perma-stow option. You can still play with your we-todd-ed pet if you want. No one would be stopping you. Preception of those people who would still use pets is irrelevant. 2ndly, it’s not a damage “boost” it’s taking that the damage that Anet gives to the pet from the Ranger because they expect the pet to have a 100% uptime and giving it back to the Ranger. It’s not a boost. It’s still there just given completely to the Ranger instead of sharing with the pet.
@thefantasticg: What do you exactly mean with the “search and rescue”-thing? Why would you prefer ressing a defeated player over a downed one?
Long time ago the Search and Rescue use to work on downed or defeated. Then they “fixed” it to work “as intended” which was to res only downed players. Problem is the time it takes for the pet to stop whatever it is doing, get over to the player, and then it actually work (they improved this slightly in one patch) made the skill pointless after the “fix” because 8/10 times the player was defeated by the time the pet got to them, and thats if they were in range. Now with the 2000 unit range limit is even more worthless to have. It was what I brought into dungeons and made it worth bringing my ranger (besides healing spring, of course).
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
You strongly believe they can fix it? I have a bridge in brooklyn to sell you!
After all the patches I’ve seen come and go it’s been nothing but band-aid low-resource-absorbing measures that don’t fix the core mechanic. Nor have they hinted at anything other than that. I do not believe they are capable of fixing the pet AI nor that Areanet as a company wants to devote the resources neccessary to rewrite the entire AI code for the pets.
I do, however, belive that eventually logical reasoning will shine through and they will eventually give us the ability to perma-stow despite saying otherwise given the low-cost in doing so versus rewritting the AI. Yes, perma-stow will solve the majority of the Ranger problems because the majority of the Ranger problems lay within the pet that they cannot or will not fix.
Two things I’d like to see:
Perma-Stow pets during combat and DPS given back to Ranger.
Search and Rescue rolled back to res defeated players.
If they did the perma-stow option…. I’d be in Heaven and stop hating on the Devs for their views like those that Jon Sharp has pointed out in the STOG interviews.
Oh… Also, Jon Sharp and Devs who think like him can eat a . . . . because they need to admit they cannot program a good pet AI. Suck it up. Get over themselves. Give the ranger the ability to perma-stow pets and give back that DPS. Would solve so many problems with the Ranger. After 1 year it’s painfully obvious they cannot program good pet AI. And by good it needs to be at least as smart as me. The pets barely got out of the 1st grade by the looks of it.
Pretty much thats all they can do now. Pets will live slightly longer with the HP buff. They’ll still die in all the places where they’d matter most. This game is built around damage-mitagation either through dodging or active healing. The pets cannot dodge and very few have the ability to heal. Unless you are going to invest 30 points into BM the pets will still be worthless after this patch.
One more thing, it would have helped the preception (are you paying attention Mr. Sharp because you are about changing preceptions) of the Ranger class had they named it Beastmaster instead… because that is what it is, not a Ranger.
My only problem with this information….I’m getting married the 12th and will be on my honeymoon >_>
Get your fiance/spouse to play. Those who play together stay together.
Thats what I did. Working out much better than expected
I pulled six precursors from the forge. 2 dawn, 2 colossus, 1 lover, 1 leaf of kudzu.
Some accounts are just marked for greatness
Now though, I’ll be grinding to get my MF upto 300%.
I love my ranger. I loathe the pets. Infact, the pets are so bad in this game I have chosen to retire my ranger for anything other than dailies or standing around in LA. I have lvl’d a guardian, theif, mes, and warrior. My Guardian is my new main. Warrior is mainly for dungeons. Theif for WvW. Mes for dungeons/group content and when I don’t feel like playing on my Guardian.
The rangers are far-and-away the worst class in the game solely because of the pet. I firmly believe if a ranger could perma-stow the pet and given their full DPS they’d be much loved. Sword+WH is a pretty strong DPS combo already, and if a ranger could actually apply all the damage that it could while the pet is perma-stowed (because they pets are too we-todd-ed to hit anything that isn’t standing still and a creature)… The Ranger would actually be OP.
Until a perma-stow option is given my Ranger will be rarely be seen.
I ain’t doing the ascended grind. I’ll be deleting that shizzat as soon as the crafting slot in the bank is full. Really wish I could vendor it. Even for a few copper… or salvage it into other crafting materials or essences of luck.
People use something other than 1 hand sword/war horn for a DPS build ?? Never thought of the axe when I was tossing around ideas in my head a DPS build for sure.
I would accept not being able to perma-stow my pet if it was a 95%-10% balance I damage. Your suggestions I don’t totally agree with but I would prefer them
Over what we have now because I would at least be able to play how I want, and that is without a pet.
People have been asking for AoE damage reduction to to the tune of 75% or so. It’ll live a slight bit longer, maybe get a hit or two in before it goes on a 60sec cd.
If the Devs are fine with doing this there shouldn’t be any problem with adding a perma-stow option.
Gotta be honest: I really really like the Ranger. BUT! As much as I like the Ranger, I loathe the pet. It’s why I have retired my Ranger in favor of my guardian. I loathe pets because the 1000 or so hours I put in on my Ranger I spent much of it wishing I didn’t have the pet at all. Love the weapons skills and nimble fighting style of the Ranger. Fun. Love it. I loathe the pet as much as I do the Devs that keep the pets in a terrible place because they refuse to admit they cannot program a proper AI. If they’d get over themselves and give me a perma-stow option…. I’d be In a type of Heaven that Shakespeare would be at a loss of words to describe.
Looks great for pvp??
Hmmm. Guess too many 151 proofed nights. Regardle$s, b0osting the health is a band-aid approach to a problem they can’t fix.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
True, and that’s why I’m going to try it. I just have to find a skin I want first. Either way I’m going to have the answer to my question in a few days.
After everybody has their achievements/get their loot it’ll be a ghost town event like the Karka Queen lol. I’m not a Betting man, but I’ll wager on it. Well, I do like to gamble some….
What about transmuting Legendaries after the patch? The dreamer update was … Sickening to put it lightly. Can I transmute it and keep the ability to change stats out side of combat?? If I can so that I’ll transmute it and equip it again… If not I’ll just settle on a single stat and transmute it. I can’t get back to the game for another four days or so to testit myself so looking for an answer before I have the chance.
Pathetic? No. No more than any single opinion is.
I disagree that Signets are the biggest problem. Pets far-and-away hold that title. Feel free to search my posts on why. I like using the signets for the passives, but that’s it. I’m pretty happy with the weapons and traps. I would Main my ranger again in a hot second if there was a way to perma-stow the pet.
I’d have to go back through the patch notes but I’m thinking it was sometime in the fall of 2012 there was a health nerf. I think it might have been before they nerfed S&R and made it useless … Been drunk too many times to remember.
Didn’t they nerf pet health awhile back because of PVP? Pretty sure they did. So, if I’m right now they are buffing back up again, splitting as they originally should between pvp and PVE. Sadly, as pointed out above, unless you are traited to 15s melee pet is still going to die before the ability to swap in a many situations (like before the nerf to health that I’m pretty sure about). That’s why I wanted a perma-stow option way back then. And as pointed out above, more health doesn’t make the pet less full-kitten. AI is still going to suck.
I really wish they’d suck it up, admit they suck at programming a proper pet, give us the option to perma stow and give that % of damage back to the ranger. I would literally, and honestly, send flowers to every Anet employee who has to do with that decision… And maybe a thank you card.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
I hate time gating. Last bit I got in on was the Celestial gear because it was the only way to get it. I won’t be doing any thing more that is time gated, including ascended crap. Thus, I will be playing a lot less with this and more with my photography hobby and other games.
I like the list, don’t care about any points but the time gating one.
