I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this and I’m not sure if this is only an issue with male Asura.
When all of the other races cast spatial surge the greatsword levitates in the air and does an amazing slow spinning animation. When Asura cast spatial surge they just hold the weapon like this…..

Is this intentional? I’ve tried searching around but my efforts have been fruitless.

It seems to be intentional, yes. All we can do is hope that ANet will change it at a later time.

It’s true of females too, which shouldn’t be a big surprise seeing male and female asura share the same skeleton and models, differing only in voice set and face/hair/phenotype options

to be honest I prefer it this way, animation of other races is distracting and confusing, this one on other hand is like a huge cannon that shoots energy of chaos

I was just coming here to make the same statement. I’m glad I’m not the only one here who would rather see our sword do a little spin like for other mesmers. Also, our spatial surge animation would appear to cause quite a bit of wrist strain as is.

I thought Sylvari held their sword out by hand too.

nope sylvari hold their hands above and below the hilt while it rotates, I’ve seen a charr do a different one, pulling one hand back and extending the other, still levitates though. I would assume this is intentional.

Imo I like the asuran manner of the action.

Perhaps the Asura don’t even use their hands. How cool would that be? Sword-o-kinesis!
