Q:

Hello,

I am looking to come back to GW2 after a few months off. I have not really dove into the Asura (or Sylvari for that matter), but a friend of mine who has similar tastes as me says their small size really makes it hard to see details. Details in armor, that is.

He says as a Warrior, even tho he loved the animations and running around with a two-handed sword/hammer, once he got higher in levels he got tired of having to zoom all the way in to enjoy his new dyes or armor. That while running around, he could have been wearing a dish towel and it would have all looked the same.

Now, I am looking to start a Necro, so obviously they wear cloth armor.

I was wondering if the cloth armor is different compared to heavy armor as far as detail?
Or is it just a race problem in regards to anything armor on an Asura is going to be hard to see without zooming in?

I don’t think it’s that bad but you can see where your tatstes lie. make an asura. zoom out to your desired p.o.v. and see if it’s tolerable to you. Personally, I tend to be zoomed further in on my asura becasue it gives me more of an asura p.o.v. when playing.

I could try that. Normally I like to have the camera zoomed out to max in this game (which in GW2 really isn’t that far.) But, if I can find a happy medium that allows me to enjoy my Asura and still see enough of the environment around me, I should at least give it a shot.

I tailor all of my armor sets to make my Asura aesthetically appealing to myself when viewed from the front. The back tends to work itself out, even at max range. (I don’t bother finding a dye combination until I find the armor combination, but I do have ~300 dyes unlocked, so…)

When you say tailor, do you mean the crafting skill, or that you mix and match armors to suit your needs? (or both?)

Either way, it’s a good idea.

Winged armor on an Asura does not have wings. It pisses me off.

Both. I use tailoring and I “tailor” my clothes to fit. Unintentional pun right there, in fact I have a set that was 100% crafted looks but I replaced the helm making it 84% crafted.

Tailor Tip: Mixing Winged and Feathers will get you a hawkey look.
Tailor Tip: Don’t use Shadow Helm on Asura, it bugs with a LOT of clothing and, depending on whether you put on your chest or your helm first, may adjust particles, change colors, and even create holes in the textures that will remain until you unequip and re-equip said clothing.

They’re smaller, sure. They aren’t a whole lot shorter (at their tallest) than humans or Sylvari (at their shortest).

One thing to note is that female Asura wear the male armor skins. So winged armor that all female clothies love so much, won’t be nearly as cool on Asura.

Some of the armors that have a lot of detail on the other races, have been diminished on the Asura. There’s a light armor with a cow skull kind of headpiece that looks AMAZING on every race. Then I look at it on an Asura and half the intricacies are gone. It’s kind of sad, but it’s up to you. I love my Asura Guardian, and always will. I did, for a bit, try to make a human Guardian, and I got him to 80, but it felt so different. There’s something about an Asura with a Hammer banishing a Norn or Charr that feels so satisfying.

Exactly why when I get around to rolling a warrior he’s going to be Asura.
