I was just wondering if most of you agree that Asura are a better race than Norn for looking cool, but that Norn have a prettier starting area?

No to the first, Yes to the second.

For me Asuras look like ugly rats who think too good of themselves. Norn look cooler in every way and aren’t so annoying. And they have a prettier starting area.

Although I do love the asura I can’t agree that they look better than the norn. This is a totaly subjective though, as each person is going to view his favorites to look best.

asura look bad, they have huge heads and tiny bodies, armors just look nearly the same on them because of their size and weapons are like match sticks, their toes clip through all shoes except for cultural and their ears either get cut off or clip through helmets.

and norn have an ok starting area, the green bit is really nice but the endless snow up north is boring.

i really wanted to be asura since i saw vekk in gw1 but had to go norn/human

No to the first, but they are cute for guys with pointy teeth. (you have noticed how sharp and pointy they are right? for stripping flesh from the bones of the unwary?)

Hard call on starting areas. I love both! Rata Sum is easier to use than any other city though. The layout is just great! For trading and crafting and banking it cannot be beaten. Every city has enormous character though and I like Rata Sum, Hoelbrak and that “pit of weakness” Divinity’s Reach (as one Norn woman in Hoelbrak puts it, lol).

DR is I think the prettiest city but it’s painful to use. Great to explore, just a pita to use. Hoelbrak is a bit less painful but Rata Sum has everything nice and compact and a waypoint bang in the middle of the utilities.

God no. Asuras are possibly the worst looking race for me. Oh wait, after silvary.
Norns and Charrs for the win.

If you want to look good, Asura are probably the worst choice you can make because they are so tiny it is hard for you to see your shiny Exotics/Legendary, let alone anyone else!

Mini griffin > mini cube.

Out of all the races, both Asura and Charr are two options I just can’t pick. Tried both and dumped them about 3 levels in. They are simply too ugly, too small, too big or a combination of the above. And I find my character’s aesthetics to be very important in this game.

So, no. I don’t find them ‘better’.

I like the Norn better because Asura seem too small to me and it makes the animation look really awkward sometimes.

Asuras are nothing compared to norns. We just cut a hole in their backs and turn them into slippers.

asura>norn (norn are too big and animations either look lethargic or over-exaggerated, asura animations are all over exaggerated)
foothills>metrica (i hate metrica aesthetically… it just seems… bleh; but cant point out why)

I like the whole ‘pseudo-Mayan magitek’ thing the Asura have going on. Never played one, though – they just all look the same to me and lack that inherent aura of kittenness that Norn have.

I love asura, I never could get into Norn, mainly because I made a Female Ele and I still haven’t found a light armor for norn women that doesn’t make them look like kittens and completely impractical in a fight. I’m not going to say which race looks better, but I have a thing for mountains so Norn wins with the starter area.

I think Asura is hands down the worst in terms of appearance. However, norn racials are bad… I wish I could trade some of the stupid summon random animal traits for pain inverter. I just like my norn ranger’s look too much to delete him and go asura.

shrug Eventually I’ll make an asura… figure Orrian shoulders and CoF helm will help the midget look better. I’ve been wanting to try out D/D ele anyways.

i can never see any details on asura armor…everytime i see an asura…all i see is a blob of color…they’re too short/small and doesnt really standout no matter what armor they’re wearing in my opinion

I prefer Charr, then Norn, then… well that’s about it. The shark teeth the Asura sport are unnerving, the city is a mess to navigate, and aesthetically as others have said, it’s very hard to make out the finer details on armor/weapons as an Asura. Not to mention all those big fancy words are so fancy and over the top that I think they may have been rejected terms in Star Trek: Voyager.

Norn are far superior, that is all.

Norn are definitely more physically attractive than Asura (though I have to admit, Asura kids are hilariously adorable). Their lands are more attractive, also… though I just discovered something interesting about Rata Sum. I teleported from the merchant’s area to the gate, and… no load screen! Apparently, Rata Sum is compact enough that a lot of around town travel is literally instantaneous.

Yes Asura are way better and more intelligent, Norn are just…. Boring, but its mostly an opinion thing.

Odd to see this thread in the Norn group.

I rate Asura somewhere between gnome and shaved ewoks.

Skritt are more entertaining and far less annoying.

Can’t stand Asura. I’ve deleted all my Asura. Too short, can’t see over things…too goofy looking. Come to think of it, I’ve deleted all my Charr and Sylvari too. Just Norns and Humans now.

Asura = Smurfs with warp drive in their kitten (just look at their running animation and compare it to distance they travel).

I would way Queensdale is best starting area.

One of my first characters was a Norn – I loved them since EOTN and I often play big tall characters in games. I wasn’t all that keen on the Asura in EOTN by comparison. My fifth character was an Asura but now I have one, honestly I wish I’d started one sooner. Norn wins if you want to look big and strong. Asura wins by miles in jumping puzzles, amusing animations, better voice acting and stories overall. They made Norn stories a bit boring apart from the one with the Charr and the joyride.

That said there’s no race I actually hate in this game, which is unusual. With most games there are some I could never play.

I like their architecture, but hate playing as one because gear looks terrible on them. Jumping puzzles certainly are easier though.

When loading a trebuchet you can use 12, maybe even 20, of those lop-eared buggers in a single volly, so yes, Asura make for much better ammo than Norns…

Asura are awesome, Norn are awesome. That’s it. I really like those two races the best. I like the Asura a tiny, tiny bit more but both races are so much different from each other that I like them for completely different reasons.
