It seems to me that in terms of melee combat, it makes the most sense to roll Asura simply because of the size difference. Is this assumption true? Or is the game setup to give say both the Norn and the Asura the same hit zone sizes?
Why, outside a preferences of visual style, would you ever play anything else in a high stakes tourney for example?
A:
Considering that gear is designed to be entirely equal in PvP and all racial skills are removed from play, I somehow doubt race has any bearing in it whatsoever.
If nothing else, however, Asura do look smaller, which may or may not get you more or less attention than other players.
Yeah.. the only “advantage” i could think of would be, being less noticeable in far range.

Now, in the “area” of hit thing, i dont see it gets affected by the size. My Asura does have different animations like, having to Jump and do hits while on the air (Mesmer single sword skill) compared to other races that just stand still and do the hits.

No I don’t think so
Actually they don’t even have to notice your body, cause I think they would be able to see your name, whether in WvW (Server Name Invader) or spvp (your own name).
Asura actually have a distinct disadvantage in that their camera sits much lower than other races, restricting the ability to look up or over walls.
There are only two times I have been at an advantage.
1) Hiding on top of stairs looking down. A Norn wold become noticable faster.
2) Hiding behind boxes on the Windmill/mansion points on Kyhlo. Its obvious that someone would be there, but only until they get close would they learn that it is Kita, best guardian.
Right now I say things balance out. On one hand we can hide in PvP/WvW easier. See Lurikeens from DAoC. But we have terrible camera problems looking down over walls and generally end up spending half the fight trying to find a good position where we can actually see something.

I would gladly lose the hiding advantage and even take a giant red bullseye above me if it got rid of our really bad camera issues.
Its possibly harder to make out the animations on an asura, but with spell effects going off all over the place, thats not too much of an issue really.
but then again, I’vehad issues underwater with my shots being fired from above my asuras head, to over the enemies head….which I can only assume is an issue with how the hit box and character size interact as it does not happen on any of the other races.
The advantage would be that the asuran animations are harder to spot (and thus harder to react to, as in interrupting/dodging) to some, debatable degree.
But I just learned in another thread, that there is a definite downside to it as well:
