My biggest gripe playing an Asura female atm is the armor skins, why oh why are they the male armor skins.
Yes yes I know they have no breasts, but its is kinda disturbing.

On the whole it’s not to much of a big deal until I came across this skin.

There are some other sets too.
Its a bit disappointing that the only way to tell if an Asura is male or female is if they don’t show the helm.

She’s glad they’re at least cute, but the heavy armor on her guardian really isn’t making her happy… haha.

I totally agree! Females need more wavy skirts and flowing shirt styles, or more cutesy styles at least (cause I know they’ll never pull off the sexy look that human females do).
VERY disapointed in the female asura armor styles.

I adore the male clothing on the female models. It just looks right, perhaps that is because I play a thief and feel women shouldn’t be running around in corsets the whole time. But for me I love the look, and it is still super cute.

I think them being brave enough to say these guys are a different race, have different physiology and just do not care about staring at women’s chests is great. It actually honestly makes them feel like a real race and not just short humans with big ears.

they at one point intended for female asura to wear female armor skins but i guess the clipping issue was huge and some of the skins might have looked weird on them…. I wish they did some of them female armor skins on them like the female heritage set… it would look cute on them. after all the female concept art model on the HOM site for the heritage set is a female asura…

As I said on the whole its not bad its just some male armors look wrong on females, the screenshot was just one example, I can’t remember if that was the gladiator or the barbaric set but the other one is even worse.

I agree that they shouldn’t wear skimpy outfits and and “Corsets” that’s just not in there nature and giving them breasts would look totally weird, but a bit of dignity on some of these armor skins wouldn’t go amiss.

In a way, yes. Long ears (mostly them), round foreheads and intellect in general are what Asura consider attractive.

The issue here is dignity is a human thing. It is great that for once a different race actually has a different sense of dignity. There is no chest for them to hide so by showing skin in that area no dignity is lost. It is a different culture with different ideas and that should be applauded.

I dunno, asura are pretty androgynous. They don’t really differentiate much, other than with naming rules (female names ending with a vowels, male names with consonants). So I wouldn’t expect too much in the way of gender-dependent gear.

Light armor sets all look the same in most part and kind of reminds me a toddler in a jumper. That being said, wtb a cute little bunny suit.

Many many issues with the female model due to clipping problems. An example is majority of hats clip with the two bun/ribbon hair style where the hair even totally obscures them completely. Also its next to impossible to match different light armor looks since the colors are all different; you have to choose a full set to get it to look all similiar.

Had to resort to spending gems and gold on cultural armor to look marginally decent. These light armor look super nice on human models, but not so nice on female asuras.

I like the unisex styles of the Asura and Charr, personally. Though offering fancier townclothes or armor skins wouldn’t hurt, either.

Ladies, gentlemen, we are Asura. Where is the practicality in frilly or cute? The external anatomical structure of both male and female Asura is nearly identical. Any additional clothing would be superfluous.

I have to agree with this the asrua are way more concerned with magic and doing crazy lab experiments to care about appearance.

I’ve been debating if I would remake into a human because the armour skins for female asuras are pretty poor. Female human look way way nicer, they actually look like a female. Their armours look completely different from the male version.

I originally picked Asura because I thought they were cute but now…they look ugly.

I actually like that Asuras have unisex armour – lacking sexual dimorphism to the degree the other races feature it, it makes perfect sense they’re not smith 2 different versions of their combat armour.

The one problem I have:
It’s always the male skin which was recycled. This often fits – the male versions look more battle-practical, even for the comparatively fancy Mesmer-styles armours – but not always.

But as said above, having gender-different armour would be… weird.
Same with the Charr btw, their only difference is general height and bulkiness.

I hated the ridges on the males that they forced us to have (I liked the concept art) and am more or less androgynous preferring the better range of choices on the fem asurans so I quite like the default choice but I understand if you’d like more choices. I just wanna stay flat and cute though, to be honest.

They should definitely add more styles for yah though, hope yah get some!

personally, i’m pretty happy about the light armor skins, i can’t say much about the heavy armor skins since i play a light armor class, but the few i’ve seen look really good in my opinion

I also think feminine armor on the asura would look weird and un-asura. I do see the original poster’s point about that ridiculous barbarian-y one-shoulder armor, though. Honestly, I giggled when I first saw it, and thought “no cookie for whoever designed THAT!” It’s not like it’s a secret that charr and asura armor must be unisex; the artist KNEW that when they designed it.

this is exactly what is stopping me from playing a female asura, currently if you wear a helmet there is no difference in looks from a male asura.

It makes no sense, i understand that some of the skins that a human female or a human norn use would look weird in a female asura, but making all the skins on a female asura the equivalent of a male human/norn skin is… disappointing.

I kinda like the OP’s pic. Maybe its just the hairstyle but that Asura is adorable.

I think the most of players used to very humane or completely animal-like physique of all races. Asura are unique, they’re not completely humane and for sure far different than animals or plants. They didn’t descend, they were ascending during their evolution, which is straight imo, not regressive. Also they’re not hybrids, like Charr or Sylvari. They remind me of little aliens, kinda. Big heads, tiny simple body, lack of hair, pretty big eyes, asexuality. Aliens are often said to be superior form of life, even to humans. All this stuff makes me think Asura are really the most perfect creations in Tyria

About clothing style – Asura don’t care about such trivial stuff like clothes. They prefer comfort and effectivness over general appearance. Also female clothes can’t be really different because female body is same with male, you can’t do much about clothing shapes unless you would use push-up like mechanics or force body shape changes (like while using corsets) and that’s what Asura really hate

On the other hand – look at Asuran weapons. They’re masterpieces. They’re designed to use energies at full efficiency (probably those specific shapes are part of mechanics) and also fit tiny Asura hands

There is a race reminding me of Asura a bit, it’s my absolute favourite fantasy race ever. Xenoa (according to the game lore) have tiny and pretty weak bodies, but they’re making up for it using their minds and technology. They have developed all kinds of devices which are not based on magic. Cult of technology and divine minds, finding other races inferior and more animal-like. Here is little gallery of their armors (both heavy and light), differences are really slight, usually female set uses the same model, but is covering less body surface (this game was pretty much about sexuality)

I don’t have a problem with the armor being Male skins on the whole, there are just one or two sets that look wrong, considering how child like they are, giving them skirts, chain bra’s and other frilly things also don’t work on female Asura because of the size and lack of features.

Making a separate skin for female Asura or Charr would be great for those sets but extremely unlikely.

Speaking of Npc’s you can immediately tell the males and females apart, the only ones truly effected by this are the Asura players with the helmets showing. I will need a source If I’m to believe whats being said is true.
“Asexuality” not from what I’ve seen, plenty of kids everywhere, there’s also a part in the personal story with 2 Asura clearly attracted to each other in a very human way, but wont do anything while in the situation they are apart of, even some of the dialogue around the world and from the charm responses are flirty.

Anyway this is what I’m wearing currently and I’m totally fine with it.

On topic though, Asura does show less detail on armor and although I think it was intentional, the graphics detail on SOME items between any other race vs Asura is huge.

I actually like this aspect of Asura. Only Charr can expose their chest like female Asura do, and they’re covered in fur! Totally awesome.

I can already imagine the looks they get from human and norn females when they walk around barechested!

So… their physiology isn’t exactly the same EVERYWHERE.

No to gender binary in armor. It makes zero sense for a race that has very little sexual dimorphism (same with the Charr). Personally, i think the fact that my Asura lady foes half-bare-chested just like the men in the Berzerker armor is great— it really underlines the fact that Asura Just. Aren’t. Human.

If you really want feminine armors and all that, 60% of the races are more to your liking. Stop trying to humanize everything.

I have to say i don’t like the female asura light armor they all look the same and all the other races their versions are so much better its unfair i chose asura because they do flips when they dodge and are so dam cute but now with the way their armor looks i wish i went female human

honestly, i’d like an easier way to visually distinguish the sexes, measuring the length of their eyelashes just doesnt cut it. and yes, that first image is vaguely disturbing.

Only to find out the female asura model looks so lame I ended up only keeping the hood and the mantle because it looks ’’ok’’ but it doesn’t look amazing or have any sort of wow factor to it.

I personally think it looks alright but then again you cant really tell the two gender apart if they stand next to each other with the same gear :S

I was disappointed in this as well, I was looking forward to having little wings on my female asura since I thought it would look adorable and did not expect to get the male version where the wings are flat against the back.

They did this because female Asura would look weird in the skimpy, sexy little outfits (think about how awful female gnomes in wow looked in bikini style plate armor). It was kind of a lazy way out though. Maybe at the very least they could program it so that female Asura get to wear the shoulder armor of other races but the male bits of everything else. That way she is not stuck in a bra and panties but might have a bit of variation compared to Asura males.

Maybe not skimpy armour, Just some cool looking features at least, Atm there is no appeal to light armour other than hoods IMO.

Asura Females use the Human/Norn/Asura male model armor. Which suckskitten I dont think you have to go wtih skimpy outfits, but atleast make armors that kind of play up the race at a bit.

Also, while I agree that they probably tried to avoid scantily clad asura girls cause of how awkward it would be, it wasnt exactly quite the fix. Some of the male armor chest pieces that are made to make your toon like conan the barbarian, can also be applied to female asura. So you can imagine an asura wearing nothing but a few straps across her chest.

Long thoughts short, its pretty much yeah, to avoid awkward isseus, they gave them male armors out of time saving rather then anything else. Which brings up the other point that there should be more armor variations in the game to begin with.

I still want a statement from A-net that they gone do something about it. It simply can’t be in such a Hugh game that you dump a hole race just becaus it was faster this way.

Personally, I like that the female Asura use male armour models. I feel that the male Asura got the short end of the stick in both faces and hairstyles when compared to the female Asura. If I decide to play a female Asura, I don’t have to worry about what the armour looks like, I know it’s the male’s and that it’ll look good in most instances.

Without going full skimpy, it would have been nice to see some feminine touch on female Asura outfits but Anet decided otherwise. Not big deal, I’ll play human or Sylvari instead.

Pfft, I think the real question here is why do the Males not get some “fancy” looking armor? Other than Gender sterotyping I see no reason why a male shouldn’t be allowed to have “wings” if he wants to… terrible.

I rolled a female Charr elementalist yesterday and it seems that she is in the same boat. At least with that armor with the wings.

I don’t really mind, I dislike the silly, skimpy outfits anyway, on any race. I’d actually like an option to choose between male and female models, personally; why does my sylvari mesmer have to go around in a miniskirt and a low-cut top?

Also, as someone mentioned, the “leather straps” chestpiece is… it even removes the pink swimsuit underwear asura girls have, so that’s all kinds of mixed messages there.
